Chapter 1

Nikolas Cassadine didn't regret a lot of things in life. They called him the Prince of Darkness, the evil Cassadine heir, an unfeeling asshole, and he embraced it. He didn't care who he hurt, as long as he got what he wanted. However, something about the petite brunette lying in the bed in front of him, brought out the protective side of him. She had always been special to him. He held her near and dear to his heart. They've had some falling-outs over the years, but she had been a constant in his life since they were teenagers. They were the 2 remaining Musketeers. They had to stick together.

Elizabeth Webber was one of his closest friends, and he was so wrapped up in his own nightmare of a life with Ava, Spencer and the whole Esme debacle, he didn't notice what she was going through. He didn't notice that her life had gotten so out of control. He didn't notice that she checked herself into Shadybrook. He didn't notice that she was deeply depressed and suffering so greatly, and crying out for help.

So the prince did something very uncharacteristic. He thought about someone else for a change. He turned his devastation over losing Ava and his son, into a need to help his once upon a time, best friend. She deserved his help. Emily would have wanted it. He owed it to her after destroying her life with the whole Jake/Jason lie.

This time, Nikolas vowed, he was going to do right by her. He was about to let her in on a huge secret. A secret that he stumbled across in the past week. This truth was going to change a lot of lives, but especially, the woman in front of him. She'd been through so much heartache in her life, but this, this was a miracle that he hoped would take her out of the deep depression that she was in.

Nikolas had been eavesdropping on a conversation between Valentin and Victor. Victor was telling him about Patient X and Patient Y. The more he listened, the more he began to realize that his Uncle Victor was describing Jason as one of them. It couldn't be though. He was presumed dead when the tunnel collapsed. Somehow, Victor's men managed to get him out before he was completely crushed beneath the rubble, but not without injury. Jason was long gone when they checked for confirmation of life.

Nikolas couldn't believe what he was hearing. Jason Morgan was like a Phoenix rising from the ashes, defying the odds once again. He didn't know how he did it. He was like a cat with 9 lives. He hoped that this would be the last time that Jason was presumed dead for Elizabeth's sake. He wasn't sure she would be able to handle losing him again.

So Nikolas ended up taking a quick trip to the island, while hiding his travel plans. He didn't want anyone knowing what he was up to, especially Victor and Valentin. He couldn't let anyone know that he knew the truth. If anyone ever looked into it, he would be shown flying into Paris instead of Cassadine island.

When he arrived on the island, Nikolas found Jason Morgan alive and well, but he had amnesia. Nikolas paid the doctor off to give Victor false information. The doctor explained that the tunnel collapse caused some damage, and he was in a coma for a while. When he finally regained consciousness, he couldn't remember a thing. He was really angry and had to be restrained. Eventually with the right medication, the rage inside of the enforcer stopped, and memories started to trickle in.

The doctor continued on to explain that since the memories started, he was having severe headaches but nothing too debilitating. So far, he had not remembered anything beyond his childhood and a few flashes of a brunette at a bar called Jake's.

With this new information, Nikolas decided that he was going to keep the knowledge of Jason a secret. If he told the truth now, Carly, Sonny, Sam and the rest of Port Charles would swarm the man, and he would never be able to get the proper treatment. Not to mention, Elizabeth would be bullied into walking away again, and he couldn't have that. He wanted, no he needed to make sure Elizabeth ended up with her soulmate. They should have been together all these years and Nikolas was going to be her guardian angel, and make it happen.

The prince knew the love that Elizabeth had for Jason. He witnessed it over the years. They both closed themselves off to each other for the sake of the kids, but deep down, that love was always there. No matter what they had been through over the years, they always found each other when it really counted.

Before he left Port Charles, Nikolas had explained to Cameron, Jake, and Aiden that he was going to help their mother. They told him about Finn and how he was harassing their mother and going behind her back. He told them how he was going to take her away from Port Charles to get her the help that she needed. He didn't tell them any specifics, but they trusted him to take care of their mother. Something that they didn't believe with Finn. Finn was only harming her. Cam agreed to keep Finn in the dark and to watch Jake and Aiden.

Nikolas checked on Elizabeth again. They had arrived on the island a couple hours ago. The meds should be wearing off soon. He knew she was going to be pissed when she woke up. He had drugged her and whisked her off to Cassadine island. He knew though, that anger would quickly turn to joy once she found out the truth.

Nik took her hand in his. "I promise you Elizabeth, I am going to bring Jason back to you and make it right."

Elizabeth could hear Nik talking to her. She didn't understand how he could promise such a thing. Everything was still fuzzy but she knew she clearly heard him say that he was going to bring Jason back to her. She tried to open her eyes, but they felt so heavy. She couldn't remember what happened and why she felt so woozy. She didn't even remember how she ended up with Nikolas. What was going on?

Finally, her eyes fluttered open and she spoke in barely a whisper, her throat a bit scratchy. "H...How? Jason's dead."

"Oh Elizabeth, good you're awake."

"What happened? Where am I?" Elizabeth began to panic, trying to get up. The last thing she remembered was walking to the parking garage after her shift at the hospital. Then nothing.

"Hey, hey. Relax Elizabeth. You're okay," he assured her. "I will tell you what happened and why you are here."

"No wait, you said Jason's name. You said that you were going to bring him back to me. I don't understand."

"Elizabeth, Jason is alive, and he is here."

Elizabeth's eyes widened in shock. "Ja…Jason's alive? Where is here? Where are we Nikolas?"

"Yes, he's actually just down the hall," Nik told her, hoping she would believe him. "I brought you here to help with getting his memories back. He is going to need you."

"No, you're lying. This is a sick joke." Elizabeth started to swat at him. "Get away from me." This had to be another Cassadine scheme.

"You're just like your grandmother. Always wanting to play head games with me. Get away from me," she screamed.

Elizabeth started hitting him wherever she could, tears pouring out of her eyes. "I hate you. Why Nikolas? Why? Why would you hurt me like that?" Elizabeth fell into his arms, tears racking her body, while Nik ran soothing circles on her back.

Elizabeth continued. "I…I can barely breathe without him. I've been trying so hard to let the world think I didn't care anymore. I had to shut myself off in order to move on. Please, I…Is he?" Elizabeth trailed off. She saw the truth in Nik's eyes. Jason was alive.

"Where?"

"Follow me."

Nik led her down the hall of the mansion. Recognition started to set in. They were on Cassadine island. She had been a few times. She wasn't sure why they were there, what had happened to her. How Jason could have survived the collapse. If anyone could survive a tunnel collapse, it would be Jason. She still didn't believe Nik. Until she saw his face, she wouldn't believe him. Even though she knew deep down that it was true. Her Jason was alive.

When they approached the door, Nik turned around to stop her before they entered. "Elizabeth, before we go in there, I need to tell you something."

She looked into Nik's eyes. She already knew what he was going to say. "Please…"

"He can't remember anything Liz, and he's going to need you. He was a in a coma for about 6 months, but he finally woke up and when he did, he couldn't remember anything. Since then, it's only been childhood memories, some early memories of Carly, Sonny, Robin, and Michael, but most of the memories have been about you. I think you are the key to unlocking the rest of his memories. I believe that the two of you are soulmates, and once he hears your voice, all of his memories are going to come flooding back."

Elizabeth shook her head, no she wasn't his soulmate, but they were more than friends. Whatever that means. She always wanted more, but Jason didn't, and she finally accepted it. It hurt like hell, but as long as he was alive in the world and happy, she would be happy for him. She would help him gain back his memories, and back to his loved ones.

Since his death, she had been walking through life numb. Everything was lifeless. She could feel the depression setting in. The days turned into weeks, weeks into months, slowly getting worse, until she checked herself into a mental institution...again. She knew she was still having issues, but if she could focus on Jason, then maybe she could pick herself up in the process. Just having him alive brought such a relief deep down inside. It was like the vise that was gripping her heart so tightly, was finally being released.

When they walked inside the room she gasped when she saw him. "Jason," Elizabeth whispered breathlessly. The moment was surreal.

Elizabeth ran over to the bed, grabbing a chair and placing it next to him. She grabbed his hand and placed it in hers, wanting to feel that connection. She was always amazed by how much larger his hands were than hers. Those strong, calloused hands that always seemed to make her feel safe. Elizabeth placed a kiss on his knuckles before placing his hand against her cheek. Tears fell from her eyes as she stared at the man that would forever have a hold of her heart. Even when they hated each other. No that wasn't right, she could never hate him. She was pissed at him, but she could never hate him. Even then, she loved him.

"Oh my sweet Jason." She kissed his hand again. "Please come back to me. I need you. Your sons need you. So many people who love you have been devastated since you've been away. Please come back to me Jason, to us. I love you."

Jason could faintly hear her voice. The voice of his angel. He knew that voice like he knew his own. It was of the voice of his sweet Elizabeth. More memories of her began to flood his mind. Jake's, going nowhere, the docks, the studio, the wind, her walking out of the penthouse, her almost dying in his arms, the birth of Jake, the Russians, him walking away from her. His head was starting to throb again as each memory came through. It was like watching a movie in fast forward. The memories were flying by at a rapid rate and he couldn't keep up with them all, then it went black. Nothing. A black hole. He had no idea how long he had been out of it. What year it was. It was all so confusing.

'Elizabeth? Where are you?' Jason started to search for her frantically. She was begging him to come back to her. He wasn't sure what happened. Was he shot again? He was racking his brain trying to remember what happened to him, but there was nothing. Other than the flashes of memories of Elizabeth, his mind was blank. She said sons? Did she mean Cameron and Jake or did they have another child together? He had so many questions. If he could just open his eyes. Why couldn't he wake up. He must be drugged again.

Elizabeth could see him struggling to wake up so she continued talking. "I've been so lost without you Jason. No matter what happened between us over the years. I hope you know that I will always love you. We made so many mistakes, and I have so many regrets. I wish we could have made it. I..."

Elizabeth trailed off, her emotions taking over. She tried to move on from Jason. She tried to go back to Lucky and make it work. Then she sabotaged that by sleeping with Nik. Although she regretted that affair, it truly broke the cycle of her going back to Lucky.

She tried to move on with several other men, even marrying Franco. Franco made her happy and he was good to the boys, but he wasn't Jason. Nobody would make her feel the way Jason had. She did her best, but nothing ever compared. They never really got together. A few fleeting moments, but they managed to create a beautiful little boy out of the love that they shared, even if it was only brief. Elizabeth would forever regret not taking his hand when he offered it, back when she was a stupid little girl. Maybe they'd be together today. So many regrets.

"Please Jason, I know that we can't go back and change things, but I really want you to wake up so you can be a father to your sons. I mean I know you have woken up, but I mean your mind. I need you to remember. To come back to us. Our bosy need you in their life. I need you. Nothing makes sense without you. Please."

Jason could still hear her pleading for him to wake up. He fought through the darkness and his eyes fluttered open and he spoke, "Elizabeth," he breathed, his voice barely a whisper.

Elizabeth lifted her head up to look at Jason. "Oh my God," Elizabeth jumped up excitedly, wrapping her arms around his neck. "Oh Jason." The tears began to fall. She kissed his cheek and then his forehead. "Oh my God, you're alive."

Jason felt her soft body pressed against his and he sighed in contentment. God, he loved her so much. The moment she touched his hand, it was like he immediately felt her presence. He felt so at ease. This was what he had been missing. His Elizabeth.

Once Elizabeth's sobs subsided, Jason wiped the remaining tears from her eyes and those that had fallen to her cheeks, before placing a soft kiss on her lips. "I love you Elizabeth. I love you so much."

"Oh my Jason, I love you too," she smiled weakly through her tears. Her Jason was alive. "What do you remember?"

Jason cleared his throat, " I..I remember my family. I remember Robin, Carly, Sonny and Michael. I have a lot of memories of you." he smiled. "You seem to be featured in most of my memories. Bits and pieces. Not enough to build a timeline but enough to know that we've been through a lot together, and to know that I love you. The rest, I am not so sure of. Flashes of a blonde and a brunette. I don't feel anything when I see them, and the memories haven't been enough where I can understand or figure out who they are. The only thing I am 100% sure of, is you and my love for you. Yours are the only memories that invoke any feelings from me.

Elizabeth frowned. Since he already said he remembered Carly, the blonde must be Courtney and the brunette is definitely Sam. She knew that he didn't remember everything yet, but until he did, she wasn't going to get her hopes up. Once Jason remembered everything, he would run towards his soulmate Sam, leaving her in the dust again. Even though he was with Britt before he died, she was sure he would run back to Sam.

"Elizabeth, what's wrong? Please tell me."

Elizabeth smiled weakly. "Nothing for you to worry about right now Jason. Let's just focus on getting you well."

"I will always worry about you," Jason stated. "No matter what, you are never far from my mind."

Elizabeth frowned again. She knew that wasn't true but she tried to put those feelings aside for now. She wasn't going to give herself a pity party. She was going to be there for him, and that was that.

"I will always worry about you too. You are my more than friend. I am going to do the best I can to help you remember everything, and get you back home where you belong."

"The only place I belong, is wherever you are."

Elizabeth sighed. "Oh Jason, you don't know what you are saying. Until you get all of your memories back, I think you need to keep the declarations to yourself because I promise you, once you get all of your memories back, you will change your mind."

Jason wanted to protest, but he was still really exhausted. His body and mind were still recovering and he couldn't stay awake for very long. Instead, he just nodded his head in agreement. He would have to convince her another time.

"I...I will agree to let it go for now, since I am still very tired, and I don't want to use all my energy fighting with you, but could you do me one favor before I doze off?'

"Anything. I will do anything for you," Elizabeth admitted. There isn't anything she would deny him.

"Will you kiss me?" Jason asked.

Elizabeth was shocked by the request. It had been years since they kissed.

"Jason, I don't think that is a good idea," Elizabeth protested.

"Kissing you is never a bad idea. Please? I need to feel your lips on mine. I am guessing that we weren't together before I went missing, based off of how you are acting, but all I can tell you is how I feel right now. Right now, all I want is to feel your lips on mine. I love you and I know you love me too. I feel it. Please, I know...I know I don't have the right to ask you, but will you please do this one thing for me anyway? I...I need you."

Elizabeth knew this was going to be torture for her, but Jason Morgan begging for a kiss could not be denied. She leaned in and brushed her lips ever so softly against his. Once, twice, a third time before pulling back. As much as she wanted to deepen the kiss, she didn't want to get carried away. Jason needed his rest and she wasn't sure her heart could take it. A quick kiss, she could do though. God she wanted to dive in again, but she pulled back.

It was over before it began. It wasn't enough. It wasn't nearly enough, but he would take it for now. "It's not quite what I had in mind," Jason teased. "But I will take it."

Elizabeth smacked him playfully. "You're so bad. That's all you're getting. Now get some sleep."

"I guess I will have to kiss you properly in my dreams."

"You don't dream. You must have hit your head harder than we originally thought," Elizabeth teased him.

"Okay, maybe not my dreams but my fantasies then."

Elizabeth blushed. "Go to sleep Jason. I will be right here when you wake up."

"Do you promise?"

"I promise Jason. There is no place else I'd rather be."
