A/N: I had the idea for this and completely fell in love with it because I thought it would be cute to see how Lucien and Jean bond with their little girl throughout her life and to explore her relationships with others in the show - Matthew, Alice, Rose, Charlie - so I really hope you like this! It is going to be one chapter per year of Lynette's life, so we'll see how far we get!

The newborn let out a mewl, the gentlest sound, as she moved and scratched at his chest with her sharp little nails and Lucien stopped watching over his sleeping wife for a moment to check on her. She was only stirring, thankfully, and she quickly fell quiet again, but he tried and failed to take his eyes off her as slumber came to steal her away a second time. She was perfection, a little dot of a thing and the double of her mummy in every way, shape and form, and he had no doubt that she was going to have him wrapped right the way around her little finger before too long.

The only reason he was still up at two in the morning was because she made it clear she didn't want to go to sleep. Jean said to simply leave her be when he laid her down in her basket and she started fussing, pointing out that she was merely complaining and would settle down soon enough, but he decided to pick her up before she started full on wailing. He told her he would sit up with her for a while, just until she started falling asleep, and then he would give her a quick change and settle her for the night so he could come and get some much-needed shut-eye as well.

He said those words three hours ago and still had yet to actually move from the chair.

Was he going to be dead on his feet and a tad on the grouchy side in a couple of hours? Probably.

Knowing that bothered him little in the moment though and he was more than happy to just sit and watch over her.

Sinking back in the armchair with her, he brought her closer and dipped his head to place a kiss on her brow before casting his gaze over at the bed again. Jean was still sound, curled up with a hot water bottle held to her abdomen in an attempt to help the cramping, and he smiled at seeing her so at peace. She more than deserved a true night's sleep. Her labour was long and tedious, her contractions growing in strength over a matter of days, and for him to say the birth was a nightmare in itself would be an understatement. For some reason, their girl failed to turn and so she had no choice but to have a breech delivery which just made the whole thing take longer and added to her pain.

Jean being Jean though, she handled the whole thing incredibly and without a fuss.

Even the doctor was singing her praises when he came out to speak to him and it was rare he ever said such things.

It was clear to see she was exhausted when he came into the bedroom following the departure of the doctor, what with her sitting there soaked to the bone with sweat and too weak to even sit up properly, but he was sure she had never looked more beautiful to him and he told her as such when he joined her on the bed. She told him to shut up, of course, not believing him in the slightest, but she failed to hide her smile from him. For a while, they sat there in comfortable silence while their daughter blinked up at them from the confines of her blanket, but the time for him to hold her in his arms quickly came and he could remember time stopping when his wife let him take her from her.

Her warm weight in his arms, her little squeaks, well, it had been enough to move him to tears.

Already, he loved her fiercely and there was nothing – not a single thing – that could take away his happiness.

Bedsheets rustling was what pulled him from his thoughts some time later and, looking over at the bed once again, he watched Jean stir in silence. He hoped she would simply turn over and go on sleeping, letting herself get the rest she so deserved and needed, but then her eyes flickered open and he sighed inwardly while holding their daughter tighter. It seemed to take her a minute to work out where she was as she removed the sleep from the corners of her eyes, but then her gaze fell upon him and she gave him a soft smile that he found he couldn't keep from returning. "Oh, a couple of minutes, he says," She mocked while rolling her eyes at him, her voice gorgeously rough with sleep as she reached up to brush several errant curls out of her face. "Lucien Blake, put her down and come to bed. Now."

He knew there was no getting out of it or getting her to compromise this time, so he chuckled as he rose from the chair with their little girl before carrying her over to the Moses basket on her mother's side of the bed and lowering her down into it. Smoothing a hand over the handful of curls she had on her head, he stood there staring at her for a moment longer before leaving her to sleep and walking around to his own side of the bed. He then climbed in and laid down beside his wife, his love for her deepening when she moved closer to him and snuggled into his warmth. "Anything you need?" He murmured against her forehead. "I could fetch you something to ease the cramps, maybe?"

"Mmm, thank you, darling, but no," She draped an arm over his stomach and anchored herself to him while he gave her back a rub. "You ought to be getting some rest, not running around doing things for me all night, and the pain is actually quite minimal at the moment, all things considered. I think we should just get some sleep while we can."

"You never fail to amaze me, you know." He smiled against her skin.

"Oh?" Came her reply, quieter now that slumber was coming for her once again.

He hummed. "Believe me, I know few women that would climb a ladder to get a ball back at nine months pregnant."

"I was stupid to do that," She laughed. "It put me in labour and you almost got me killed, hollering like that."

"I should have known you would ignore me when I told you to forget about it," He said. "You are mental though."

Stretching up slightly, she gave him a clumsy kiss on the cheek. "Yes, I know. You love me though, don't you?"

"Madly."

"Then I don't care. Not in the slightest…"
