Hello fellow readers! I would like to give thanks to those who are viewing the story. To those who are wondering, this is something I decided to come up with. Basically, this is a story that tells the tale of a group of inklings, humans and a continuing octarian crisis. I am not sure if you may find this interesting but I do think this is worth a shot.

Just a heads up, I chosen to have dates posted to the storyline to to give viewers an idea of how much time has passed and etc. For example, since Splatoon 2 was originally released on July 21, 2017. I decided to base the timeline based on dates and year. Since the months or years aren't exactly stated in Splatoon, I decided to use this format.

You could already be familiar with my stories, as time is a important factor in a readers' understanding. The storytelling might be confusing for some of you, considering that I decided to start this without a story based on the events of Splatoon and a story leading here.

Just for clarification, This story was planned way back in 2018 but reality had delayed the release. As a similar story about Inkopolis Plaza exist, called "Inkopolis Revitalization' by SkallSaw. I wanted to clarify that this isn't inspired by that story, even though there may be some similarities.

Hope you enjoy this first chapter and hope to see your reviews!

Update: 7/29/2021 - Added names to the agents.

Chapter 1: Prologue

July 28, 2017

Octo Canyon

On the strands of Octo Canyon, familiar vocals were booming as a battle was raging in an arena. The battle being fought between an inkling and the great DJ Obtavio. The familiar vocals had belonged to the Spicy Calamari Inkantation. Marie and Callie aka the Squid Sisters were the ones who were singing. Just moments before, Callie was able to be brought back by Marie. It was now up to three agents to beat the DJ. A series of inkrails had spawned high above, circling the arena like clouds. The agents now jumped onto the inkrail to take down Obtavio with modified rainmakers.

The agent in the lead was the energetic and newly recruited Agent 4-1. She had her hairstyle taking the form of a haircut. Aside from her having amber eyes, she fought with great skill. Being personally recruited by Marie and had gone through a lot to get to this point. Currently, she had green ink for the battle as oppose to the natural yellow-orange she normally had.

The inkling in the middle was Agent 4-2; the brother of 4-1 to be precise. He sported a slick hairstyle, having tentacles flow smoothly from his head. His mint green eyes were glued to his sister, following her movements. As he was about two years older then his sister; his big brother instinct was focused on making sure she got through this mission successfully. He too had green ink aside from the yellowish-orange color he shared with his sister.

Last but not least was Agent 3, originally known as Agent 3-2. He was the brother to Agent 3-1, who was currently out on patrol somewhere away from Inkopolis. Originally not in the Agent business, he wasn't as skilled as his sister despite being two years older. Nevertheless, he was glad to help both 4-1 and 4-2 these past couple of missions. And right now, he was where he was at two years before, helping his sister battle Obtavio.

As they battled Obtavio high above the arena, among the octarian battle was a lone inkling who had hidden himself well. He had zoom in googles in front of him, recording everything for analysis. He watched as the agents dodged and fired with accuracy. They all held her own without any help. He watched as the inklings jumped to strike down Obtavio who had just crashed down below. He nodded to the conclusion of the battle as Marie, Callie and Sheldon came in to land next to the waving Agents. He grasped his headphones, talking.

"Alfa to Seashell, battle has concluded... King has been defeated."

"Got ya, Alfa!"

As the inkling watched the hovering truck with both the squid sisters, the agents, and an unconscious Obtavio fly out the tunnel that was dug through to the surface. He concluded recording the footage and headed out as well. Thank Cod that the Agents couldn't pick up his transmission, otherwise they would have know he was here.

Six months later, February 18, 2018

A battle was raging by the famous three Agents of the Squidbeak Splatoon pushed their way ahead, firing at any Octarian that stood in their way. Agent 3, 4, and 8 were the three best agents besides Agents 1 and 2. The three were making a run on an underground facility in an Octarian dome. Their skills were equal as the three fired at anything that was trying to stop them. While on one of the upper platforms, Agent 4 made use of a splat bomb on a group of octolings. The result was expected as thrown off their feet unconscious but not splatted. It went on like this for several minutes until the three successfully reached the designated section of the facility.

As Agent 3 went splatting through octarians, she got the notice that her ink tank was low and shot a pile onto the ground before jumping into refill. Her name was Ali Isla, She formerly held the title as 3-1 and Agent 3 respectively, as being the first agent to be recruited. She gestured for the the other two agents to follow. Agent 4's name was Coral Iva, and like Ali, she formerly held the designation 4-1. Last but not least was Olivia Octavian, who was designated Agent 8.

Once Ali was sure that the coast was clear, she moved into the warehouse, followed by her fellow agents. Thanks to blueprints obtained by them earlier, She had no trouble finding the room they were looking for.

"Watch my back for me guys."

She kicked down the door in front of her, opening every draw she could find. Time was critical as it was since every octoling was alerted to their presence. Outside of the office, Olivia and Coral kept behind cover and watched as several octolings ran past the doorway, failing to notice them. The next group of octos however were more open minded.

"Well Fish..." The two defending agents emerged from cover and proceeded to defend their positions.

"The Agents! They're her-Ahhh!" The lead octoling that tried to warn her comrades was splatted from the hail of teal ink. "Ahhh!" Two more octolings were sent down after while the rest took cover behind whatever they could find. The octolings opposed, shooting ink back at the agents. Four and Eight ducked behind cover as well as octarian ink shot above them.

Meanwhile, Three searched and yet she wouldn't find what they came for. Their trusted informant had confessed back in Inkopolis that information would be here; Unless, this was a setup and she was caught. The informant and Cuttlefish was certain that the locations would be here. Three looked back and saw a total of ten octolings coming down the hallway, some falling to the the shots that Four and Eight fired.

Three could see the facial expressions that Four and Eight displayed as they looked back at her through the office window. Expressions of fear, anxiety, and fatigue were both present in them. Three searched and yet she wouldn't find details of the latest weapons that the octarians were fielding. The weapons included their own helicopters, ink resistant vehicles, and almost anything that the inklings enjoyed. It was nothing like six months ago when Four defeated Obtavio. If anything, the struggles that Four and herself went though almost made it look like a cakewalk.

Just as it looked like the octarians were on the verge of collapsing, they had got back up surprisingly. It looked like also that they had learned and had tied up their ends. Upon seeing that the mission was a bust, Three checked back as both agents took out several more octarians that had just joined the battle.

Though Eight and Four had carefully conserved their ink, the two had been fighting to keep the octarians back for a while. Their ink tanks were dangerously just about to run dry which made Three search for a solution. She caught an idea of splatting as many octarians as possible as she had just about enough ink to throw a splat bomb. Everything was in slow motion as she threw the splat bomb through the now shattered window and emerged simultaneously from the office.

The splat bomb had landed in the middle of the octarians; They ducked for cover too late as it exploded and sent teal ink everywhere, splatting most of them into the afterlife. With her hero shot blazing, she gave covering fire to help her fellow agents as they both retreated into their own ink to refill their ink tanks.

Though fatigue had began to set in, Ali managed to take careful aim at the group of octarians. Some of the faster octarians managed to dodge her shots; This didn't leave them unscathed though as some of the shots had managed to splat several more of them. Just as her own inktank had ran dry, her fellow agents emerged and continued the battle.

"Thanks! Three!"

The agents fought heavily, beginning to push the tide back even though they seemed to be fighting the whole facility at this point. After successfully pushing through, the agents headed for their rally point. All the while trying to disable technology that they might faced in the future. While running, three threw a splat bomb into an open engine compartment of an armored truck, drowning the engine in ink and ruining it for good. If they were going to face these things in the future, they might as well delay having the octarians deploy them.

"Let's go! We're outta here!" The three agents slipped through a chained fence and super jumped away from the facility, heading to the designated rendezvous point that was set.

The three agents were out of breath from the mission as they arrived back to the secret facility they obtained. At the entrance of the room. Marie was growing more concerned each day the three arrived back and collapsed onto the couch.

"Were you able to find information about the weapons that the octarians are fielding?"

"No..."

The three agents were noticing that more and more of these weapons were being fielded. It was getting tough and risky to do missions as well. While they could still take out the weapons with ease, their physical and mental strength couldn't. Being sent out on mission after mission had pushed the agents to their limits. They were in a bad position indeed. If they were to keep up at this rate...

"I don't know what to tell you Marie, it's getting harder to fight the octarians." Three said as she took several breathe.

"We're going on mission after mission without resting periods." Four added, voicing her tired state.

"If they keep this up, we'll tire ourselves out before they can be stopped." Eight weakly added.

Marie looked to the exhausted agents, nodding in agreement. "I know... I'll ask Cap'n to work out a solution." Marie turned around, leaving the agents be as she departed. Life in the secret organization hadn't gone to plan accordingly. The octarians who, instead of being thrown into chaos, had accelerated their goals and had now began to outpace their attempts at keeping order. Even if She and Callie were helping, it wouldn't be enough. Perhaps it was time to call back a few old faces and recruit some new ones to relieve the three agents for a bit.

Meanwhile in Inkopolis

Inkling and Octolings all over the city were going through their daily commute of participating in Turf Wars. Some newcomers were traveling by train to gain a taste of being flesh. It didn't matter whether the newcomers came by plane, train or ship. As many before, their beginnings remained the same. On a metro train that had just emerged from a tunnel, which in turn had led from a station with trains coming into the city; A inkling that was flesh from one of many counties had a journey was about to start...or so it would seem.

Like all inklings at the age of fifteen years, she had mastered changing forms and was hoping to come to the city. Mostly new squids would have been coming to Inkopolis when they're fourteen years. The girl however had missed her chance by one year due to a change happening. Now however, she was on her own in the big city.

If there was one place she always wanted to visit, it was Inkopolis Plaza. For nearly three years, she had heard stories about the place. The stories didn't interest her though, what did the most however was the Squid Sisters. It was three years before when she heard their music beam through the television back home. Since Inkopolis Plaza and the Squid Sisters were interconnected, it was natural for her to go. As she sported the classic orange long 'hippie' style tentacles, she may look like just an ordinary inkling girl. No shame to that since everyone almost looked identical, just almost. She also looked just like any new squid in town; wearing a basic tee, white headband, and banana basics. The only thing depicting her from the rest was her blue eyes and personality, if one were to notice.

She looked up from her squid phone as the inklings around her had began to stand up from their seats. Moments after, the announcer came through the intercom.

"The next stop is Inkopolis Square Station." Looking out the window, she looked to the station sign that was pasted in white paint from it's blue outline. As it displayed which stop this was, she had to confirm that the station was indeed Inkopolis Square. Once the train came to a stop, the inklings around her had began to depart. One by one, they emerged onto a station platform beside the track.

As the train began moving again, the inkling took a look around the car. She apparently seemed to be the last one onboard the train, at least in the car that she was in. She felt the train moving a bit faster now, bypassing what should have been the next stop. Out of the window, she could see jellyfishes hammering away at the station, sparks flying, wood being carried to certain points. The station may have been going under repair from the years of decay; while it was bad for inklings who had to walk to Inkopolis Square, it was good enough for her though.

"The next stop is Inkopolis Plaza Station."

"Yes!"

The female now stood up, grasping onto a handle as the train slowed to a stop. She emerged from the middle car, expecting to see a crowd. A huge disappointment is what she was confronted with as the train pulled out of the station.

"So it was true then..."

She looked around the station to make sure she was the only inkling on the platform for sure. "So this is Inkopolis Plaza huh?" She followed the designated path off the platform and walked over to the other side of the station to a sign; Inkopolis Plaza was written on it. Right beside the sign was the entrance to the plaza itself. She followed the path as it led her into the area. Once there, she gazed around at the surroundings as she walked to the center of the square.

She expected the whole plaza to be... more alive. She did expect to see a few inklings talking among themselves on their phones. She knew that the plaza would be empty but not what she was seeing.

"Hey there!" Her attention was turned to find two inklings in front of one of the stores. One was female, having the color orange and the other was male, having the color blue. "Hello!" Both of them said at the same time. The inkling began to walk towards them as it was a sign that at least the plaza wasn't completely abandoned. The female was dressed in a White Tee, Studio Headphones, and Pink Trainers while the male had Pilot Goggles, Purple Hi-Horses, and a Zink Layered LS. Once she got close enough, The orange female began to talk to her.

"Hello! Welcome to Inkopolis Plaza! It's nice to meet you!"

"I am Orange Clarabelle." The female introduced first.

"And I am Blue Tendersome." The male said after.

Having heard the names of the two, the inkling was wondering their names chosen from the very colors they had. As they introduced themselves though, she didn't want to be rude so she introduced herself back to the two inklings. "Name is Cayley Splatspray." The two silently acknowledged her name understandably, considering that a family or two was bound to have a relation to the word 'Splat' in it.

"I don't want to be rude or anything but why are you two named after..." Cayley pointed to both Blue and Orange to get them the idea.

"Oh our names? Well, you can say that both our parents wanted our names to be simple." Blue replied to the new inkling.

"Oh..."

"We get that question all the time so we don't mind... we're used to it by this point." Orange said to reassure Cayley of any wrong doing.

"So what brings you here today?" Blue asked.

"Well, I came here because it was my goal; Ever since I was twelve, I wanted to come here after seeing this place on the television." Cayley looked around to the plaza before turning back to the two. "But after I heard it was a ghost town after two years. My goal had changed, I wanted to come here and see what i can do to help."

For the most part, she was right as it was just two years ago in 2016 when Inkopolis Plaza began to lose it's popularity. Inklings were looking for the new stuff to try and they had got their answer over at Inkopolis Square, which made it rise to fame. As such, the Plaza was slowly left in decline by the time the next year rolled around. Cayley was aware of this since Inkopolis Plaza was stopped being shown on the television back home.

"Well, your in luck because me and Blue were the best turf war players here."

"Wait? Really?!"

"Yep! If you want, we both can teach you a thing of two."

These two being the best turf war players was something that Cayley admired quite well. She was kinda surprised though that Orange and Blue, the best turf war players would still be here after two years, not abandoning the old ways as all the others.

"Oh! That reminds me, first time squids get to chose whatever clothing they want for free."

Did she hear it correctly? Wasn't that against the rules? Cayley thought as her eyebrows went up. "Wait? Isn't that rule breaking?" Cayley only received a shrug from Blue and Orange. "Well.. those in charge won't give a shell since this place desperately needs new squids to fit in."

What Blue said made Cayley's eyebrows to widen slightly more as she became more surprised by his words. "What do you mean?"

Blues' eyebrows and lips turned downwards in a saddened expression. "I think it's time you know the full picture... about this place." Orange began explaining to Cayley what he meant, sharing the same expression. "The city is considering tearing this place down since it's no longer relevant."

"But... I waited two years for this... I only got enough to settle here. I don't have anywhere else to go in the city after this." Cayley voiced the issue of not being able to afford to go elsewhere as she only had enough to settle close to the plaza.

"It's okay! We have time though." Orange reassured Cayley again.

"Me, Orange, and a few others in the council were able to lobby and delay pulling the plug for another year."

"If we can get the plaza up and running again, we can save this place."

Cayley looked back up to the two, knowing that she had a role to play here. "I'll do anything to make sure this place survives."

Blue nodded with a smile, pointing to the three clothing stores in the plaza; Cooler Heads, Jelly Flesh, and Shrimp Kicks. "Those in charge have also decided to do away with restricting how much you can pick and wear. So therefore, you can wear two to three sets of gear while your at it; Like headphones, a cap and glasses for example."

"Feel free take your time to pick whatever you like."

While Cayley didn't care much about clothing that much, she did however want to stand out from being seen as just a newbie around here. It was considering the set up that she currently had on. Cayley decided to explore Shrimp Kicks first as she needed another pair of shoes. There were a lot of choices to choose from, all of which came in different styles and selections. She eventually settled on Yellow Seahorses as they had the Bomb Sniffer ability. She headed into Jelly Flesh after, choosing two sets of clothing; a Green Striped LS and a Green Zip Hoodie. The Ninja Squid and Special Duration Abilities might prove useful if she needed to get away or defend herself from some squid attacking her.

She changed into the LS first then wore the hoodie over, leaving it unzipped. While wearing clothing over one another restricted the movement of her arms, she didn't see it as bad. Compared to where she was born, the temperature in Inkopolis did decrease around the evening, so the extra layer would help at keeping her from getting cold.

As for something extra she decided to put on a pair of fingerless gloves to protect her hands from getting blisters. It would be an understatement to say that inklings don't get blisters but they do sometimes. Although it was unlikely for her to get blisters, she did like to be wearing something between her hand and the handle of a weapon as a way to get a better grip on it.

Lastly, once she reached Cooler heads, she quickly picked a Green Camo Mesh Cap and Studio Headphones as her headgear. The increased Swim Speed surely matched up with Ninja Squid. The Ink Saver ability would also help with conserving ink a little. She liked to be shooting for a few more seconds at most. Upon finishing, she exited the store and headed back to Orange and Blue.

Orange and Blue approved of what Cayley had on. The set up wasn't bad for starters, it was pretty balanced especially since the limitations were removed. Blue couldn't help but ask the new inkling. "So... How is it?"

"These fit perfectly!" Cayley gave a thumbs up to the two inklings. Orange could see that Cayley was eager. "I can happily say that your now ready."

"Just to let you know, there are several other new squids out there, as well as some turf war squids likes us, Cayley." Blue said.

"They're hanging out at the park near the plaza." Orange added.

"I recommend you get to know the other squids around here, it's best to know the other squids, even if they're on the rival team."

"That's how me and Blue met the first time." Orange erupted with confidence, pressing her cheek close to Blue's. This made Blue let out a chuckle, thinking back to the early days of facing Orange in competitions.

"It wasn't long before we fell for one another and started dating."

This led Cayley to give a smirk. "Alright, see you two later then."

"Good luck!"

Cayley took a pathway that led past the tower and into a skate park. She was confident to meet the others squids because she wanted to make a friend or two. However, her attention turned when she heard yelling up ahead.

"What!? You think you can join us just like that!?" Cayley quickened her pace carefully, watching from the upper stairway that led to the park. She looked as three inklings colored in red ink, wearing School Uniforms was gathering around another inkling. The inkling being yelled at was wearing a Treasure Hunter hat, a Studio Headphone, a Green Choco Layered LS, and a pair of Green Slip-On shoes with knee length socks, and a red and white plaid skirt. In addition, she also sported the color orange with the long 'hippie' style tentacles.

"We don't need you on our team! Your just a simple nobody!"

"Wow... Hurtful!" Cayley felt angry for how disrespectful they were to one of their own. How they were treating her was just... far from rude. "If you want to join our team, your gonna have to drop that awful setup you have."

No matter how badly Cayley wanted to step in, she couldn't. It would be her against three! Well... two against three if that inkling knew how to throw punches. While she knew little about punching techniques, she did learn enough from her grandfather once she was able to change forms. She watched as the inkling was pushed back and onto the ground, her hat and headphones falling off.

"Cmon, we're done here! Lets ditch this run down part of the city!"

One by one the three inkling began to super jump into the sky; They were in fact weren't going back to the plaza. They instead were heading to where Inkopolis Square was. Cayley's attention turned to the inkling once they departed. She began putting back on her hunter hat and her headphones. The inkling then began to look down, closing her eyes as if she was about to cry.

Cayley jumped down from the upper area, stepping to the inkling. "Hey!" The inkling opened her mint eyes and looked up at her. "Are you alright? I saw what they did to you." The inkling didn't respond, she remained silent as Cayley began to extend her arm down to her.

"Cmon, take the hand, a fellow squid is a friend of mine!" The friendly move made the inkling reach out with her left arm, gripping onto it as Cayley pulled her up. The inkling remained mute, but it wasn't long before a short re-accursed voice came from the inkling.

"Thank you..."

"It's no problem, I am happy to help."

Hoping that this wouldn't make the inkling retract back, Cayley said calmly. "What happened between you and them?" The inkling responded to her question relatively quickly. "I wanted to join a team but they said I wasn't flesh enough."

"Typical, tryhards will always be ignorant." A team was suppose to be formed through trust and acceptance, not the best commitment. Oh... thank Cod that those inklings were too ignorant. Likewise, she would have been led down a dark path or possibly could have bore the pecking order in the team. Remembering a quote from a movie she saw when she was younger, Cayley repeated the words. "Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering."

Cayley put the thought away and instead wanted to introduce herself to the inkling. "The name is Cayley Splatspray."

"Emma! Emma Splattermore!"

"Emma Splattermore huh? Easy to pronounce and remember, just like Orange and Blue. How ironic."

"Best friends?" Emma extended her arm forward, wanting a form of a hand shake. "This must have been how she was taught to welcome inklings from where she from." Cayley put her arms forward, just parallel to Emma's, accepting her offer. "Best friends!" Both Cayley and Emma pressed the palms of their hands together; And with that, a new friendship had began for the both of them.

I hope you enjoyed the chapter and the start of this story. I know that it will be great!
