Prologue

Enter the dragon!

(It's actually Tohru!)

Izuku Midoriya never considered himself lucky. Born in a superhuman society as part of the 20 percent without an abnormal or even mundane quirk. His classmates shunning him, his only best friend Kacchan bullying him, deeming him 'useless Deku'. His dreams of being a hero were broken before the age of 5, with no support or encouragement from anyone, not even his parents. Having to learn early on that not all men are created equal.

Bad luck is what he believes to be the reason for his many misfortunes in life. That changed one day when he opened the front door to his apartment, half asleep, to reveal the horrifying face of a dragon. From then on he didn't believe in luck, he believed the universe just wanted to mess with him.

He was now completely awake."...H-hello? C-can I help you?" The dragon did not respond in words, instead it roared at him. Izuku inhaled sharply. 'Okay, don't freak out Izuku, remember what mom said, don't judge others' appearances caused by their quirks.' Those eyes staring at him were not helping.

Right before he was about to close the door and call it a day, the dragon summoned a magic circle. The dragon's entire form was engulfed in light and it shrank in on itself. No, it wasn't shrinking, it was 'Transforming! A transformation quirk?' The dragon disappeared and in its place (well, the place its head was resting on) stood a beautiful young adult woman. With a bounce in her step she finally introduced herself.

"Ta-dah! Good morning Midoriya-san!"

Izuku took some time to think. 'Definitely still asleep.' "Good morning", he finally responded back.

"Would it be alright to come in?", she asked.

"Oh, sure, come inside", he replied, still unsure of the dream. Hopefully his mom won't find out he let in a complete stranger.

They were seated at the dining table. The stranger introduced herself as Tohru Kobayashi. "So we met last night and I offered you a job as my live-in maid?"

"Yep, that's right!", she replied blithely.

Izuku frowned, 'Strange, I'm not waking up.' He gave the visitor a look over, a cosplay maid dress, blonde hair tied in pigtails, horns ('antlers?') poking out the sides of her head, fangs, wings, and a large lizard tail. Overall not the weirdest appearance caused by a quirk mutation.

'No, not a quirk, an honest to goodness real life dragon from another world', the memories from the night before were coming back to him. His mother leaving for the week, the hours of sleep he lost staying up at night working on his journals, running around for the whole day outside the city of Musutafu looking for hero fights, and then taking a short nap on the train resulting in him missing his stop, then the subway was closed. 'This isn't a dream is it.' Izuku shook his head as more memories filled his head. Walking through the woods half dazed, stumbling upon a dragon, trying not to ramble about the possibilities of such an awesome quirk, and noticing the sword poking out its back.

"Do you need some help?"

"You… want to help… me?"

"Of course, it's what heroes do!"

After some struggle, Izuku sat down and took a breather. The dragon turned into a woman and sat down with him, she started talking. "Thank you for saving me", she said.

Izuku was shocked. Someone was actually thanking him for his help? Still on some sort of high Izuku shot up and put his hands on his hips " NO PROBLEM CITIZEN, YOUR SAFE, WHY? BECAUSE I AM HERE!", he loudly proclaimed with his best All Might impression.

The woman looked at him with amusement before she giggled at his cuteness.

Izuku, not wanting to miss the chance for some more saving, sprang the question, "Do you have a place to stay?"

The woman shook her head, then looked down dejectedly, "No, I was going to just sleep out here."

Izuku looked around the empty field they were standing in. "Then, do you want to stay with me?"

Those last words echoed throughout his mind, Tohru seemed to smile even wider. Izuku blushed bright red and put his burning face in his hands. Tohru wasn't fazed, "I'll never forget those kind words. So please allow me to stay here as your new mother!"

"...Wha-?"

"I meant your new maid!", she corrected hastily.

"...You can't, I'm sorry."

For the first time since the conversation, Tohru's smile wavered. "What? But…"

Izuku grimaced, "I'm sorry, it's just me and my mom here, I can't hire you."

Her smile continued to falter, "No! I don't need pay! IF ANYTHING I SHOULD BE GIVING YOU AN ALLOWANCE!"

"No that's not the problem–"

"I can be useful!"

Izuku flinched. That one stung, that word was personal to a 'useless Deku' like him. He couldn't help but sympathize with her. "I'm sorry, I made a promise I couldn't keep." He felt awful, to a hero nerd like him, not keeping a promise was like committing a cardinal sin.

Her smile was gone, she was crestfallen, she looked down and fumbled her dress in her hands,"...what am I doing? This was a mistake wasn't it…" she mumbled to herself, too quiet, Izuku almost missed it.

"I'm sorry." He couldn't see her face, but he could see her shoulders shaking.

After some time she looked up. With a smile, with a fake smile, she finally spoke, "Understood. Sorry for bothering you."

With that she made her way out of the apartment. Izuku took one last look behind him. He saw the tears streaming down her face. He flinched and looked away.

He felt awful, but he knew the day was going to get worse since it was his first day of middle school. If elementary school was anything to go by, he can guess the next three years weren't going to be any better. He looked at the clock, five minutes until school starts. 'Huh, if mom were here she would have told me to get a move on like thirty minutes ago.'

..."Ah!" His head snapped towards the clock. 'Oh crap! I'm going to be so late!' To be late on the first day, not only would it look bad on his record, but his mom would no doubt find out he was staying up too late the past couple nights doing his hero research. 'What do I do, what do I do?! I need five minutes just to sprint to the subway station! Dammit! If only I had a quirk that could help me fly…'

He gasped, and turned back to the doorway, Tohru was just finished putting her shoes on and opening the door. Her wings were draped and hanging low on her back, but to Izuku it gave him hope.

"Tohru!" She stopped and turned around, quickly trying to dry her tears. Izuku ran forward and grabbed her hand. "Can you fly?!"

She was stunned, then she gave him the biggest smile, she could no longer stop the crying. Tohru flung her arms around Izuku, sobbing into his shoulder.

Izuku was a bit dumbfounded, "Is that a yes?"

They were flying across the sky. "WHOAAAAH!" Izuku would be more excited if he wasn't terrified of falling off. Riding on a dragon's back, he realized, there wasn't much to hold on to.

"You're going way too fast! You could get pulled over by some heroes!"

Tohru craned her neck to look at her back, "Huh? What'd you say?"

'Oh who am I kidding, no hero save the top three could catch up to Tohru's speed right now.' Tohru continued to look straight, too focused on her flying. Izuku contemplated his morning so far, " I guess I could ask mom if we could keep her once she comes home."

Tohru looked back again, "Really?!"

'She could hear me?! Super Hearing? Wind Barrier? Telepathy?'

Izuku shook his head. For now he would have to focus on school. But he couldn't help to think back to that moment back at the apartment. Her smile. For the first time in his life, Izuku got to experience the best part about being a hero. Giving others a reason to smile.

Blonde Luck Arc

Izuku and Tohru

After a thankfully uneventful day at school Izuku made his way straight back home. It's not that he didn't trust Tohru, he just didn't have friends to hang out with. Also he really needed a conversation about… whatever situation he found himself in, and the only person he could talk to about it is the very person that forced him into his new employer position.

Izuku froze at the front door, 'Oh right I got to call mom and tell her about our potential new house guest.' Pulling out his phone for his probable awkward phone call, he opened up his contacts list to search for his mothers number. Well 'search' was a generous way of putting it, he didn't have that many numbers saved. 'Wait a minute, what is-' he immediately took notice of the peculiar name that wasn't there before,'Tohru? When did she…?'

Choosing to file that question for later (the list keeps growing) he calls his mom. "Hello honey, how was your first day at school? I hope the other kids didn't give you any trouble."

It was nice to hear her voice again, he needed this sense of familiarity in these bizarre circumstances. "No, no, nothing like that, there was no trouble today, you don't have to worry about that… i'm fine."

He was telling the truth, no usual 'Deku' taunts from the other kids. He didn't recognize most of his classmates, it was possible he got no jeers because his quirkless nature wasn't yet known to them. That was definitely going to change by the end of the week since he ended up in the same class as Kacchan again. Even so, Izuku wanted to believe that Aldera junior high would be different, and these next few years would go smoother than his last school.

"I was just calling… to let you know that, uh, I may have solved our 'lack of house maid' issue," he drawled, not fully convincing himself.

"Issue? Was there an issue with that before?",she asked.

Izuku decided to just rip off the band aid. "Well, there's this girl- well not a girl, a young woman, I think… I didn't ask her age, and she needs a place to stay. So I (without thinking) suggested to her to stay at our place, and in exchange she offered to provide housekeeping for free, and I mean she seems capable, probably-"

''Izuku, dear?", his mother replied patiently.

'Oh was I mumbling?' Izuku tried to calm himself down, ready to start over.

"I guess I'll have to wait to see this new maid for myself before I make any sort of final say. But I'm sure she's fine if you're asking for her to stay."

"Look, I know, I'm sorry- I wasn't thinking, I just blurted it out to her. It's just that, she looked like she needed help and I couldn't just-'', he paused. "Wait, you're okay with it?" He couldn't believe what he was hearing.

"I'm sure soon enough we can afford another mouth to feed, I mean I don't want to keep my hopes up but I believe the interview went without a hitch and-", she stopped herself before she could start rambling,"No, I should wait to bring up that conversation for when I get back."

Izuku frowned and looked at his phone, 'Interview? Did she ever mention that before? Is that why she was gone for the week?' Izuku couldn't remember if his mother ever told him why she left, all he remembered was her saying she was sorry she was going to miss out seeing him off for his first week of middle school.

He could hear her breath deeply before speaking again, "It's something me and your father were meaning to bring up with you for a while now, but I think you may have solved your own problem." Izuku was still confused but didn't say anything, she continued, "For now just make sure she makes herself comfortable. Show her to the guest bedroom we've never been able to use. I'll be back on the weekend, then we can talk."

"Um, okay. Bye mom, I love you," he finally spoke.

"Love you too sweetie." They ended the call there.

'Okay, even more questions, but for now I should get things situated with Tohru.'

He finally entered his apartment. He immediately noticed how much cleaner everything looked since this morning. "Tohru? Um, I'm home!", he called. Izuku was taken aback, he didn't believe he would ever get to say that to anyone besides his mother. A sad thought, sure, but the lifelong abuse from a quirk dominated society forced him into a shell that made it hard for him to interact with others, especially females.

'Wait, but Tohru is a girl and I can speak to her just fine.' He thought it might have something to do with the fact that she was a dragon, but most of his interactions with her happened when she was in her human form-

He paused, there it was again, the word dragon. Why does he actually believe she's a dragon from another world and not just some human with an outlandish quirk?

Izuku walked into his living room. Tohru was sitting on the couch folding laundry. She turned to greet him, "Oh! Welcome home Midoriya-san! Dinner's almost ready, why don't you take a shower while I get the table set."

Izuku looked around the apartment, it was really clean, almost…sparkling? There was a pleasant aroma coming from the kitchen, making his mouth water. He looked at Tohru, she looked at him affectionately but continued to fold without missing a beat. "Wow. You, uh, got this whole maid thing down almost perfectly, huh?" It was perfect, he felt like he may have insulted her when he used the word 'almost'.

Tohru was not insulted, however, she put her hands on her hips and turned her nose upwards with an immense amount of pride. "Why, of course! The great Tohru is no slouch when it comes to maid work! It would be an insult to the Kobayashi name!"

Izuku couldn't help but chuckle at that.

At least she seemed enthusiastic.

After getting a quick shower Izuku took a look over at his room, nothing seemed out of place.

For now

Then after getting dressed he came back to the kitchen and sat at the dinner table.

Tohru served him a bowl of what looked like meat stew. It looked and smelled good but the color of the meat seemed off, Izuku noticed. Tohru sat down in front of him.

"If you're wondering, I didn't clean the bedrooms, I figured that'd be something I should ask for permission first," she said.

"Oh right, that reminds me, I called my mom. She said you can stay for the time being. She will even let you have the guest bedroom," Izuku said, as he picked up his spoon.

"Really! I get my own room?! Does that mean I get to decorate it how I want?!" She seemed ecstatic.

Her smile was infectious, "Yeah of course." Izuku raised the spoonful to his mouth. "Man this smells good, I can't wait to eat! Well, thank you for the meal-!"

Izuku looked at the meat more closely, the meat juice was green and acidic looking.

"Tohru… What kind of meat is this?"

"It's my tail meat!" She was happy to reply.

Izuku was hesitant, "And it's…edible?"

"Of course! I made sure to take my time to remove the poison!"

Izuku's eyes widened, 'It's poisonous!'

"And it…tastes…good?" He asked.

"It's sweet and creamy! And good for you, it's packed with protein which I hear is all the rage with you humans these days."

Still not quite convinced he said, "Um…okay then, if you say so, i'll try it."

Tohru looked down sadly, "Oh…okay, if you're sure you don't want it, I guess I will-" her eyes widened, "Wait, seriously! You're going to eat it!"

Izuku looked at her, 'What's with that reaction?'

With an audible gulp Izuku opened his mouth and raised his spoon. He wanted to close his eyes and just focus on the sweet aroma but figured that would be rude. With a shaking hand he finally closed his mouth around the spoon and tasted the food. He was stunned, "Woah, this tastes amazing!"

Tohru was overjoyed, "Really! You're not lying? Do you really like it?"

"Mmm-hmm!" Izuku's response was genuine as he kept eating more spoonfuls. "This tastes so delicious! You're a really good cook!"

Tohru's eyes were tearing up as she smiled timidly. "Y-you don't have to praise me that much."

"No seriously this is amazing! I hope you continue to live here from now on!"

Quickly composing herself she replied pridefully, "I knew you'd like it. I bet I'm an even better cook than your mom, huh?"

Izuku choked on his food a bit, "Um, I don't know, I feel like that'd be taking it a little far…"

Tohru panicked, "Right, of course! Stupid question, forget I said anything!" She clicked her tongue and muttered to herself to 'be more subtle next time.'

Izuku chose to ignore that.

As Izuku continued eating, Tohru served her own bowl, one noticeably bigger than any he's seen in the kitchen. She managed to eat her portion in one gulp. Izuku looked up from his bowl, 'she eats her own tail?' Then he noticed some rustling from her dress as half her tail poked out. 'It grew back?!'

"I'll be sure to serve you some tail meat as often as I can. You're a growing boy, I'm sure you'll be able to eat the whole tail in one meal soon enough," she said.

'She expects me to eat the whole thing in one sitting?'

After he was done eating they fell into casual conversation. "I can cook other recipes of course. Just give me a list of any foods you don't like," she requested.

"I mean, I'm fine with anything really but shouldn't you be asking for anything I like?" He asked.

"Oh, I can't ask that, I've had many friends slain using the things they like," she responded despondently.

"Kind of like humans." Izuku mumbled.

"But since we're on the subject I want you to know this one thing. I love you Midoriya-san!"

Izuku's eyes widened, was this her true intention? "You're going to eat me!"

"I don't mean that way! I meant in a motherly sorta way!" She quickly corrected it. "You saved me Midoriya-san, the only logical way to repay you is to adopt you of course!"

"I mean-that…what?"

"Please at least let me continue to be your commute to school."

Izuku stopped her, "No, we can't. That would be illegal quirk use, we could get in trouble. We're lucky we weren't caught this morning-"

"Oh, that was me actually."

"...Huh?"

"One of my 48 maid skills: perception blocking."

Izuku blinked, '48? I need a whole quirk analysis notebook just for her. Or would it be magic analysis?'

Then Izuku frowned, 'Well, that's the last time I believe in luck.'

OOOOO

Inko Midoriya had just gotten off the phone with her son Izuku when she heard the door to her hotel room open. Hisashi Midoriya, her husband, had just returned with some takeout and noticed Inko on the phone,"Were you calling Izuku?"

Inko shook her head, "He called me actually, you're not going to believe this but, Izuku may have found a way for him to stay in Musutafu."

Hisashi looked surprise, "Wait, you already told him about your job opportunity?"

Inko was given a job opportunity at her husband's office building where he worked. To accept the job would mean her and Izuku would get to live with Hisashi as a family again. It would also mean having to move overseas, where Hisashi worked for the last couple years. It can be a hard ordeal for a parent to tell their child that they would have to move to a new home, especially one so far away, and leave their friends behind. Except Inko was well aware her son had no friends aside from 'Kacchan' (of course she doesn't know about the bullying), and was ignored by the other children due to being quirkless.

The real problem would come from telling Izuku they would have to move away from Musutafu, where the number one hero school UA was located.

Ever since he was able to talk, Izuku's dream was to become a hero. The dream was crushed when he was diagnosed as quirkless at the age of four. Turning to his mother looking for support, Inko could only break down crying, apologizing to her son.

She knew Izuku still held hope of becoming a hero. Part of his dream is also to attend UA high, which overlooks Musutafu atop a hill. Living in close proximity to the school was like a motivator for Izuku.

To Inko, telling him they would move away would be like telling to give up his dream. While Inko never told Izuku he couldn't be a hero, she never supported him either. Some part of her was always afraid Izuku resented her for ignoring his dreams, and that this decision to move would be the final straw.

To Hisashi, he was afraid Izuku felt abandoned after he moved overseas shortly after the diagnosis. He tried to make up for it by calling as often as he could, but due to different time zones, most calls would have to wait until the weekends. He wanted to give his support to Izuku but felt like his words wouldn't come off as genuine unless he said them in person. He believed he could make up for everything if they moved in together again but realized that brings up the problem of moving Izuku away from his dream school.

Inko turned to her husband, "I was waiting to have that conversation in person, to make things easier. But apparently Izuku went out and found himself some sort of housekeeper-" Inko then noticed Hisashi had already inhaled a plate's worth of food and was already half way through the next plate, "...and that she's willing to do it in exchange for shelter."

Hisashi gave her a pleading look, "Please don't look at me like that, I've had to live off of American food all this time." He was about to eat again but stopped to glance back at her, "Wait…she?"

Inko nodded.

Hisashi wasn't much of a crier, at least not compared to his wife and son, but he still had to wipe a tear from his eye. "My boy, his first day of middle school and he's already bringing girls home."

"She's an adult, not some girl from his school."

"Oh right, that makes more sense."

Now it was Inko giving her husband a look, "Except for the part about how they met, but we'll have to wait for that story for when we get back."

Hisashi was finished with his buffet and was relaxing on the bed, "Still that kid, solving his problems before they even come up. I told you he would have been fine on his own."

"You're the one who insisted he'd come to America with us."

Hisashi sat back up, "Only because you suggested he lived with the Bakugou's! Now, don't get me wrong, it's not like I don't trust your friend Mitsuki or anything like that-"

''No one was accusing you of that-"

''-it's just that I don't want him living with that Katsuki kid, definitely a bad influence."

Inko decided to bring the conversation back before they went further off topic, "Anyways, she'll have a week to convince us to let her stay."

Hisashi laid back down on the bed, "You already sound convinced enough to let her stay."

Inko laid down next to her husband, he hugged her close, and she started to tear up, "I just…don't want to fail Izuku again."

Hisashi kissed her head, "No ones at fault for anything, there's nothing wrong with the way Izuku was born, he's our precious child."

She smiled, cuddling closer, "I wonder how he'll take the news."

He contemplated, "I'm sure my surprise visit would help if I bring back some hero merchandise as a gift. We are in Tokyo. I'm sure we can find something he'd like that he doesn't have already. Who's his favorite hero?"

Inko raised her eyebrow, "All Might."

"Still?"

OOOOO

It was the end of the first day, and Izuku was impressed by the amount of hard work Tohru put into her maid work. It was almost like she did this for a living. But he found that thought to be a bit weird, who's ever heard of a dragon maid before? He put that thought away as he finished brushing his teeth and walked back to his room to finally catch up on his sleep. He opened the door and almost fainted at the sight that greeted him. It was Tohru's face everywhere! Posters of her pictures on his walls where his hero posters were, his hero figures replaced with models of her human and dragon forms, and a body pillow with her picture on it sitting on his bed.

He quickly composed himself, "Tohru!", he said calmly.

"Yeah?" She poked her head out of the closet, startling Izuku.

He took a breath, "What happened to my All Might collection?!"

"Who? Oh that old man? I thought you would like to have my face all over your room instead. Don't you like it?"

"What? No! That would be weird, it feels like you're staring at me from all over. That would make me uncomfortable."

"And having that smiling idiot doesn't?"

"That's not the point!"

Tohru pouted, "Fine," she summoned magic circles and the room shifted to the way it looked before, "I don't see why you would like some lowly human like that." She said, grimacing at the All Might bed sheets.

'She put it back!' Now Izuku really wanted to know the extent of her powers, his analytical mind already brainstorming ways she could use her magic for hero work.

He yawned, remembering just how much sleep he missed out and decided to question her another time. He looked at his bed, "Uhh…are you just going to leave that body pillow there?" He looked towards her but she was already busying herself in his closet again.

'Well, she takes her work seriously, a couple mistakes aren't so bad if she can fix them easily.'

He enjoyed her company enough, he could handle a couple of embarrassing moments right?

Tohru poked her head out again, "Hey, quick question, but does your shirt really say 't-shirt' on it or is my translation magic acting funny?"

Maybe not.

Author's note: Legally obligated message about how this is my first story. Also no other dragons in this story besides Elma, but only sparingly. I need to keep the story balanced after all. Also-Also my biggest weak point is continuity, so if I make a mistake, um, whoops?

Tohru: Don't worry I didn't lick any of your mom's clothes, I washed them the regular way.
