Cassius hated life as a quirkless human. In their world, one of power and purpose, those without power were considered less than dirt. Hated, mistreated, ignored, judged, pitied... your value was constantly questioned. Cassius knew this all to well, having been born in America the second most Quirkest country and then moving to Japan the most quirkest country... it was hard to just exist. Orphaned at Ten, mainly for being Quirkless, he found himself the target of bullying and abuse by many people around him. By thirteen he left school and decided to take online classes. He lived on his own and was quite content in that.
Determined to make something of himself, he started to research everything fantasy and magic and mythology. He wanted nothing more than to be an author, to give hope and peace to the world through his written work. So, naturally, he bought many books on the subjects in question...
Something that would change his life in ways he could never have anticipated. That would change the world in ways he could never have guessed...
A year before UA First Semester Starts
"What does this even mean?" He groaned, chattering away in English as he walked out of the bookstore. In his hands was an older book, leather bound with golden print on the front, it was in some form of Latin from what he could guess. He recognized some words, from his research into the realms of magic and fantasy, but that really was all he had to go off on.
He was so involved in the book he didn't realize he made a wrong turn into an alleyway, not until he was surrounded by glowing eyes. "Where's the money, kid?"
He jumped, looking around. "I... I have no money, I just spent it on my books." He chattered, hating the weakness in his tone. He could not fully see the beings before him, they were cloudy, covered in mist and shadows. Only their outline and eyes were visible. He tightened his grip on his new book, shaking. "I cannot help you, please let me pass."
"I don't think so." They rushed him and he bent over, hoping not to get hurt too badly...
Heat suddenly, and fiercely, rushed through and around him like desert air. He looked up and watched as a pulse of gold energy erupted not from him but the book in his hands, smashing through the air and knocking his assailants into the ground. Shaking, the mist around them faded and he saw they just some punks around his age, rich kids playing badboys... idiots.
Rushing away, as to not get arrested himself, he hurried home six blocks aways and dived into his house. The moment he made it inside, he stared at his book. "What are you?" he asked the book... only for it to fly from his hands and flip open to the first page. Shaking he read the words upon the page, words glowing a soft gold. "Benedic cor hoc, oculos aperi, et majestatem spiritus mundi amplecte!"
He collapsed then as gold energy arced like lightning from the book into his forehead, raging through him and unlocking something he would never fully understand. Even as he collapsed into darkness, wondering just what the hell happened.
