Ura Zelda 64: The Goddess's Ocarina
Prelude to Another
In the land of Hyrule, there's tell of a legend. A legend held dearly by the Royal Family that tells of a boy...
A boy who, after vanquishing evil and saving Hyrule, was sent back in time with a golden relic embedded within him. To the time just before the great evil rose to power.
Desperate to prevent the great cataclysm from occurring once again, he approached and spoke to the princess of his deeds. The princess, knowing this was the very one she sent to find the Spiritual Stones, understood that her plans to obtain the Triforce and defeat the great evil would only cause her beloved kingdom pain and suffering.
Believing them to have no choice, she sent the boy far away...with the treasure of her family in his pocket. The Ocarina of Time. The final key to the Sacred Realm. If Ganondorf could not get that to open the door, Hyrule would be safe.
But just as the heroic forces changed their plans, evil can do the same...but now there is no hero.
Will Hyrule truly be safe?
Or will evil find a way?
Zelda watched Link climb upon his beautiful foal. The young horse whinnied softly, as if she was protesting the journey ahead of her. Link frowned and tried to settle Epona down but she snorted and shook her head.
"She seems nervous."
"I'll be honest. I am, too," Link said. "Just because I've traveled through time and seen more things than most ten year olds, doesn't make me any less scared of leaving my home. Hyrule is...it's all I've ever known. But don't worry," he quickly added. "I understand what's at stake. I'll be fine. I'll take the ocarina far away and, well...I'll make the best of things."
"I'm so sorry, Link," Zelda said mournfully. "You're the only one I can trust with this. You believed my prophecy and I believed your tale. You truly are a great hero. Hyrule will welcome you home again one day and I'll be here...waiting for you."
Link nodded. He patted the ocarina, which was snug in his chest pocket. "I promise I'll take good care of it. No matter what happens, the ocarina will be safe. I feel like it'll protect me when I'm far from home, too."
"I pray it does. Remember, the Goddess of Time will come to your aide if you play the song I taught you. I hope you will always be safe but I trust in your courage and wisdom, should anything ever happen," Zelda said.
Sounds from the castle gate startled the two young children and Zelda looked nervous. "I must go back. Father must have noticed I went missing. If the guards see me with you, it will mean trouble."
"I'll be on my way, then," Link said. He took one last look at the castle town market gates and sighed. "Good bye, Hyrule. Good bye, my home." He then focused on Zelda and the princess could have sworn she saw tears. "Good bye, princess. Stay safe."
Zelda realized her own eyes were watering up and she blinked. "Good bye, Hero of Time." She shut her eyes, unable to watch as her one and only friend rode away.
The next time she opened her eyes, he was already gone.
Welcome, readers. It's been seven long years since I posted anything here. Seven long and brutal years. It's good to be back.
This fanfic was inspired by the cancelled Zelda 64 ROM Hack that was going to be called URA Zelda. That in itself was inspired by the cancelled N64DD expansion from the days of Nintendo 64 and dreams of having disk add ons was a thing. In particular, this was inspired by the group that included people such as ZethN64, Punk7890 and Nitroflasher. These names were taken from the leaked soundtrack, which was the only thing to survive the cancellation. I apologize deeply if there are some names not included here. I am also not affiliated with that group whatsoever. I was inspired by the music they produced and ideas to make my own URA story began and I just started writing it.
This is just a short introduction but it will get longer with full length chapters. I already have many chapters written up with more to go so I hope you'll be entertained and enjoy the story.
Side note but this fanfic takes place immediately AFTER Ocarina of Time ends and Majora's Mask begins. Link is NOT a central character here and there's a good reason for that. Bear with me here and I'll reveal more as the story unfolds.
