January 4th, 2233

It started off as a normal day, even if there were a few hundred people on a spaceship, light years away from earth. The first officer of the ship was in medical because his wife, who was an engineer on the ship, was feeling contractions from her pregnancy. But he was pulled away when something came on the sensors, and not in the good way.

"Have our sensors haven't made sense of the anomaly?" Captain Robau asked

"No sir, it looked like a lightning storm in the middle of space." Officer Pitts said

"How far are we from the Klingon Neutral Zone?" Robau asked

"150,000 kilometers, but the vessel is not Klingon, Sir, its registry doesn't match any recorded profile." Pitts said

"Report." Robau said turning to the ship's First officer

A blonde haired, blue eyed, 32 year old man, who happened to be the first officer, swiveling in a console chair to face his Captain.

"Sir, new contact bearing zero-three-four." The First Officer said

"Are they transmitting on any frequency?" Asked Captain Robau

"Negative, Captain, all communications appear to be shut down." The first officer said

"Hail the ship. What's the closest match on registry?" Robau asked

"Nothing even close, Sir." The XO said

Robau moved back to Pitts.

"Any response?" Robau asked

"No Sir, the hails are met with silence." Pitts said

"Maybe they're incapable. Any identifiable damage?" Robau asked

"Negative, Sir. But our readings seem confused." Pitts said

"Confused? How?" Robau asked

"Not only is the ship unregistered, but even its construction materials seem unrecognizable." Pitts said

Robau sits in the captain's chair his eyes on the ship as they approach and they see it on the View screen, The Narada, it was enormous and threatening and ugly. Robau doesn't even realize that he began to mumble.

"Oh, my, God." Robau muttered to himself, "A lightning storm, then this. Signal all departments: first contact protocols. Looks like we have someone new on the block. All Stop."

Crew members are glued to their telemetry and working fast as they could at their consoles.

"Sir, should we initiate an invasive scan?" The first officer asked

"That could be seen as an act of provocation all readings passive…" Robau began to say

Suddenly, a warning beep began to sound as the unknown ship began to loan their weapons.

"Sir, I have a reading they've locked weapons on us!" Pitts said

"Red alert! Arm weapons!" Robau ordered

Alarms blared and lights go red as The Narada fires a torpedo, it heads for the Kelvin and then the torpedo separates, fracturing into a multi-hit projectile. Officers scramble and brace for the impending impact.

"Torpedo locked on us at 320 degrees, mark two incoming fast!" The first officer said

"Evasive pattern Delta-5!" Robau ordered

A direct hit smashes several decks along the DISH of the ship. In the massive Engine Room, a huge blast causing men to go flying into the steel and out into the black. Up on the bridge Robau helps a fallen crew member up from the floor then, on his chair com.

"Damage report!" Robau asks his chief engineer

"Our shields did nothing, Sir! Never seen anything like it! Weapons off-line! Main power at 38 percent!" The engineer says

As the crew regains their footing, the First Officer pulls himself to his console, true fear in his eyes as he places an inter-ship call, he pressed a few commands and the thing began ringing. His fear grows with every passing ring then it gets answered. A woman, 28 year old blonde, answers her communicator as she lies on an exam table, afraid and pregnant. This is Winona.

"What was that? What's happening?!" She asked in a panic

But the First Officer is just relieved that his wife was still alive and safe.

"You're okay, thank God. Where are you? Still in medical?" He asked with a sigh of relief.

"Yeah. I'm still in medical. I had a few close contractions but I'm fine." Winona said

Then there was a small explosion.

"What was that?" Winona asked

"Just sit tight and stay there. We'll be fine." The officer said

"They're firing another, Captain!" Pitts said

Another Narada torpedo shoots out and again it separates into pieces and hits the Kelvin. Chief Engineer runs past a sudden explosion. A female crew member running down the hall suddenly holds on as a hole is ripped into the wall and she's yanked out of the corridor.

"Life support failing on decks seven through thirteen! We have confirmed casualties, Sir!" A helmsman said

"This is the U.S.S. Kelvin attemping to reach Starfleet command on subspace! Repeat U.S.S. Kelvin, under attack by unknown aggressor!" Pitts said into the comm.

"Shields at eleven percent and dropping! Ten percent we're at nine! Eight percent! Seven! We're dropping here! Six!" The first officer said

"Were our shields even up? That was like nothing I've ever seen this ship can not take another hit like that!" The tactical officer asked

"All remaining power to forward shields! Prepare the shuttles f—" Robau starts

He stops, they all do, and a fucking face is now on their view screen. A Romulan face, the first officer of the Narada, whom they come to know as Ayel.

"My commander requests the presence of your captain in order to negotiate a cease-fire. You will come aboard our ship via shuttlecraft. Your refusal would be unwise." Ayel said

Screen goes dead and all eyes were on Robau and he feels them. A tense, horrible moment. Finally, to the First Officer

"Walk with me." Robau says

The First Officer follows Robau off the bridge and to the turbo lift as they walk, briskly.

"If I don't report within fifteen minutes, execute general order 13." Robau says

"Sir, we could issue a mayday call to…" The first officer says

"There is no help for us out here. If we're going down, we're taking them with us -- you save as many as you can." Robau said frightened, but firm.

"Aye, Captain." The first officer said

Robau heads into a waiting turbo lift, turns they lock eyes, knowing what this means.

"You're Captain now. Mr. Kirk."

And Robau was gone. And this is George Kirk.

All eyes on Kirk as he enters into the bridge again and moves to sit in the captain's chair. This was not a small moment as George said his first words as Captain.

"Lieutenant Pitts. Transfer Robau's vital signs to the main view screen please." George said

"Yes sir." Pitts said

In a moment, Robau's vital signs appear on various monitors his heart rate, oxygen levels, blood pressure, all of it. A low pitched beep beep of his heartbeat is now heard by everyone.

"Vitals on line." The science officer said

"Thank you." George said slightly awkward

Tilt down as the Turbo lift Descends and the doors open so that Robau can get out. He moves quickly hurries down a Shuttle bay catwalk. Robau enters a shuttle and lights blink to life. He moves to the cockpit and starts the vehicle up.

"Computer, initiate departure sequence." Robau commands

A loud hiss and the craft shudders as the shuttle disembarks.

Sparks dripping from the ceiling, everyone is motionless eyes on the monitors, the beeps of Robau's heart might as well be representing his own. He realizes he's sweating and wipes his forehead as she waits for word of his Captain's departure.

"The shuttle's pulling out of main bay, Sir." Pitts said

"I want to see him. floodlights please." George said

Two massive floodlights on the Kelvin's dish ho hot and turn, flaring out the lens and landing on the shuttle as it leaves the Kelvin, heading toward the imposing Narada. Backlit by the distant floodlights, Robau remains steely-eyed as he moves for the darkened ship nervous, as ever and Robau's heartbeat quickens, the tension they all feel.

"His heart rate's elevated." Pitts said

"He's scared." The helmsman said

"He's brave. That's what he is." George said

Robau watches as he gets closer, the beeping heard over the sounds of the shuttle, but then

And everyone is just motionless and silent. Only Robau's vital signs can be heard, beeping away and George's eyes glued ahead. Robau faces the shuttle door, considering his fate and weighing his options. Finally the shuttle door opens and standing there are eight Romulan guards, brandishing weapons, he steps down. They grab him, hard and he's scanned, frisked and pulled along to the absolutely massive hanger, the insane architecture of the interior of this dark, wet, dripping ship.

Robau is led into the enormous, dark bridge. A dozen Romulans at controls. Robau does his level best to portray confidence as he is led up a walkway to AYEL. Behind him, sitting silhouetted and motionless, turned away and looking off, is his captain, it is Nero.

Ayel touches a panel, then throws an image into the air before Robau. A rotating hologram of a unique-looking spacecraft the looks like a jellyfish.

"Are you familiar with this craft?" Ayel asked

Robau regards it for a second.

"Who is your commander? Is it him?" Robau asked as he points to Nero

"You will speak only to me." Ayel says

"Then ask your commander what right he has to attack a Federation vessel." Robau demands

"That was hardly an attack. My commander will easily destroy your ship. If you do not respond to the question." Ayel says

Robau considers the hologram again. And what his answer might mean for the fate of his crew.

"I've never seen it. Or any ship like it." Robau said

"Are you familiar with or better, know the location of Ambassador Spock?" Ayel asked

Ayel has thrown another hologram a floating, rotating image of Spock, who appears to be 75 earth-years old. Robau is confused and it shows on his face.

"I am unfamiliar with Ambassador Spock." Robau said

"A final question. What is the current stardate?"

The look on Robau's face was 100% pure 'what the fuck'.

Stardate? It's 2233.04." Robau said, "Where are you from?"

Suddenly, shling! Nero's activated his bow staff -- four large, horrifying blades appear at the tip and Nero springs to life, charging Robau with a roar and Robau's eye roll to the back of his head.

BLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE... Robau's vitals on the ship go dead. Everyone who was watching the scream sucks in a breath as their hearts drop. George begins to panic as a screaming alarm is activated overhead.

"They're launching again!" Pitts yelled

"Evasive! Evasive! Delta-Five maneuver! Fire full-spread!" George ordered

The Kelvin banks as it fires wildly and another torpedo blasted from the Narada it separates like the other. Some miss the ship, but the other hit.

Debris flies through the ceiling, slamming into a bridge support beam. Green coolant spews from under the floor grating.

"I'm initiating General Order 13! Set self-destruct for maximum matter- antimatter yield! Two minute countdown!" George orders

"Yes sir!" Pitts said

"I want auto-pilot targeted for their fuel cells!" George said

"Sir, unable to locate the ship's power source!" The tactical officer said

"Then just target the damn thing dead center!" George said

"We got bigger problems: the first hit destroyed auto-pilot! The only way we're gonna ram that ship is to fly manual control!" The helmsman said

George's heart pounds in his chest at when the helmsman says as he thought about the old navy rule about the captain, or in this case first officer, going down with the ship.

"Then I'll do it myself, get to the shuttles, now!" George orders

No one moves knowing that Winona is pregnant and will need him.

"THAT'S AN ORDER! GO NOW!" George yells

Agony in their faces as the bridge crew reluctantly hurry off to the shuttles and Kirk takes the Captain's chair and hits the com link.

"All decks, this is the Captain speaking, evacuate the ship immediately, get to your designated shuttle crafts." George orders

Moving fast as they could with Winona who was in full fucking labor now being transferred onto a wheelchair by the Doctor and Nurse.

"Repeat: evacuate ship and get to designated shuttles! NOW!" George repeats his order

"That's George's voice. What's happening?" Winona said

"We're packing it up, you'll deliver in the shuttle!" The nurse says

While she's on the move and out the door, her comm beeps, she answers it knowing who it was.

"George!" Winona said

Alone now on the bridge, piloting this massive craft by himself George was talking to Winona from the Captain's chair.

"I have medical shuttle 37 standing by, get to it now, can you do that?" George says

"Yes. Where are you?" Winona asked

George, for a moment, hesitates to answer as his eyes glued to the screens as he pilots the ship into position.

"I'm on my way." George lies

George knows that is a pretty good chance that he won't make it off the bridge in time.

"Good and George, it's comin'. Our baby, it's comin' now." Winona said letting her Georgian accent out more then usual.

It wasn't that unusual for Winona to go full blown southerner when in Georgia, in stress or in labor.

"I'll see you in a minute, sweetheart." George lies again

He disconnects and another alarm sounds as he turns the ship, fires the phaser banks again its photons slamming into the oncoming Narada torpedoes, and just avoiding unnecessary impact from the 'tentacles'. The remaining crew members scramble to their assigned shuttles as the ship trembles and Winona is among them, being pushed through all of the madness.

The Med-Team arrived to the medical shuttle with Winona in the wheelchair and Winona has huge contraction

"Agh! That was that was a big one!" Winona said as they put her into the shuttle bed and she is having flashbacks from her delivery of her son.

"Just keep breathing, Honey, you're gonna be just fine." The nurse said

"The baby, too, right?" Winona asked through the pain

"And the baby too." The nurse said

As George Kirk pilots, he checks the monitors one reads the Countdown To Self-Destruction, 180 SECONDS, 179 SECONDS, 178 SECONDS, and another reads Impact Proximity, 36,054 METERS, 36,042, 36018.

Another screen that shows stats of departing shuttles. More were leaving as we glance at the screen but 34 shuttle remained docked. The Narada is growing in the view screen and he hits the com link again.

"Captain to shuttle 37, is my wife on board?" George asked

"Yes sir, she is." The Pilot who is readying the controls said

"I need you to go now, do you hear me?" George said finally admitting the truth.

"But, we're waiting for you, Sir." The pilot said

"No, go, take off, immediately." George ordered with a growl

"Yes sir!" The pilot said in defeat.

Shuttle Pilot works the controls and Winona, in the back, feels the shudder of the shuttle taking off.

"No! Wait! We can't go, my husband isn't here yet! Please! STOP!" Winona said but she's suddenly wincing as another contraction hits.

"You'll need to push now, are you ready?" The nurse asks

Clamps holding the shuttle slam cack, the med-shuttle drops hard, fusion impulse engines ignite and the shuttle moves.

"Winnie?" George said as he hits com link again.

"The shuttle's leaving, where are you?" Winona asks

As George evades enemy fire, heading for the massive alien ship just up ahead.

"My love? Listen carefully, okay?" George says

Winona was holding her comm close to her face.

"We're about to have this baby and you're not here. You were there last the time." Winona cries

"Sweetheart, I'm not going to be able to be there." George says

And she just stares and realizing what's happening, that he's been made Captain, that there was an evacuation and somehow she just knows. Tears come to her green eyes.

"No, no, no, wait." Winona says

"I want you to hear me." George said

"Are you still on the ship?" Winona asked

"There's no other way, my love, you know that all I want, all I want in the world is to be with you." George said

LNo no, you need to be here! Please! George, I can't do this without you! Please don't d--!" Winona said but she's wincing again.

"Okay, you need to push." The doctor said

And Winona does what shes told as the shuttle leaves the Kelvin shuttle bay, turning to join dozens of other shuttles, all heading off in escape

As George pilots, dodging incoming fire.

Winona pushing as hard as she could, giving birth to their second baby

The Kelvin TURNS HARD, avoiding TORPEDOES -- the shuttle BANKING as the Doctor and Nurse help Winona and George soon hears a baby crying and tears com to his eyes as he begins to speak.

"Hey! Hey, so what is it?" George asked

"It's a girl." Winona said happily.

"It's a girl? Yeah?" George said

And now we see Winona, handed this beautiful little girl. And she cries, just looking at her --

"So tell me, tell me about her, please?" George asked

"She's, she's beautiful, she looks like you though." Winona said

Heartsick, George laughs and glances at the monitors, 'self distraction countdown is at T-minus 20 seconds'.

"George, you should be here." Winona said

"I know. So what should we call her, huh?" George asked

"We could name her the female version of your father's name." Winona suggested

"Tiberius into Tiberia? Are you kidding me, she'll get bullied for sure? No, that's the worst. Well name her after your dad. Let's call her Jamie." George said

"Jamie. Jamie it is." Winona said

Through the view screen, he's about to hit the other ship he angles within the enormous Narada bladed tentacles. George is scared now and wished he was on the shuttle with his wife and daughter.

"Sweetheart? Sweetheart? I love you. Can you hear me?" George said

"Yes, yes, I hear you." Winona said

"I love you. I love y…" George's voice cuts off as the Kelvin slams into the Narada.

A chain reaction of explosions starts and George is caught in the literal crossfire. George's voice goes all staticky and confusion washes over Winona's face but was suddenly lit by a bright glow and she looks over, with wet devastated eyes. And what she sees is the massive explanation that quickly sucked away in the vacuum of space and she's crying and holding her newborn baby girl who just lost her father and her life was altered forever.
