Ben 10: Rewrite

Chapter 1

„The watch"

[Bellwood suburbs, Tennyson's Household, 2016]

Bellwood was founded in 1638 by the Sámi people. Its English name was derived from the bell that was built to commemorate its founding. Hand-carved from walnut timber and weighing over 3,000 lbs., it is the world's largest wooden sleigh bell.

It was the most interesting, or the most boring one, according to Ben, thing in his City. While not a bad city, Ben still found it boring. Nothing was going on in Bellwood besides some random festivals.

Ben Tennyson was a 15-year-old kid living in the suburbs of Bellwood. He was just your average teenager who had nothing going for him. Everything was shitty, to be honest. His parents were close to a divorce, arguing all the time about whim who Ben will be living with. That's been going on for about five years now. To make it worse, Ben had no friends. He was always bullied by his classmates and made fun of. He became an introvert because of that. It's gotten bad to the point where he had to go psychologist due to depression.

His parents knew that their divorce and bullying were the cause of it. They went to school and tried to do something about the bullies, but it didn't work. It only caused more trouble for Ben. He was getting beat up and the school didn't do anything. So, they transferred him to the other school where his cousin, Gwen Tennyson, was attending. Despite being in a much more demanding school, Ben was doing pretty well by himself.

Now the only issue was their divorce. There was no fixing it, though. Even for Ben's sake. This is why they asked his Grandfather, Max Tennyson, to take him for a summer road trip across America. Max agreed, wanting to spend some time with his grandson. Especially now that he needed him. Gwen's parents also asked to take Gwen with them. Despite not being close to each other these days, Gwen's parents were still worried about their nephew.

'Maybe I can just cancel this trip and go back to bed?' -Ben thought, rubbing his eyes. He wasn't sleeping well for some time now. Even the pills weren't helping.

He waited in front of the house for his Grandfather to pick him up. Back in the place, he could hear the muffled arguing of his parents. Even now, they couldn't stop and wait with him outside.

'Why is my life so difficult?' -He thought sadly. He even wanted to cry, but he didn't want to be a crybaby. So he keeps them in and put on his headphones. He played 'Kina - Get You The Moon and closed his eyes.'Wish it was raining. This sun is killing me… C'mon Grandpa, where are you?'

Suddenly he felt someone poking him. He open his eyes and was surprised to see his cousin. Gwen wore a white shirt under a dark blue sweater, black stockings under a black miniskirt, and black high heels. Her red hair was reaching down to her waist.

„Hey there sleepy head" -Gwen said with a smile."What are you listening to?"

„Just some music." -Ben said and returned a smile. A few years ago they would probably make fun of each other, but now they had respect for each other."Where's grandpa?"

„Here Ben!" -Max said as he came out of his RV: The Rust Bucket. He loved that old piece of junk, while Ben didn't like it. He always had some weird stuff in there that made his skin crawl."It's been a while. Now come here and hug your grandpa."

Ben smiled and hugged his grandfather. He never changed. He was always wearing that old Hawaii shirt and dark blue jeans.

„How are you Grandpa?" -Ben asked.

„Good enough, kid. What about you?" -Max asked with a worried tone. He knew too well what was going on with one of his son's family. He was saddened by what it was doing to Grandkid.

„I'm okay, Grandpa. You don't have to worry." -Ben assured with a forced smile.

„Just because you tell me not to worry doesn't mean I won't worry." -He said and put his hand on Ben's shoulder. He could hear his son and his wife arguing even from here."Don't your parents want to see you off?"

„They already did, so let's just go." -Without saying another word, Ben picked up his bags and went inside the RV.

Max and Gwen both looked at other with worry and then at Ben's house. Deciding not to say anything, they both went inside RV as well.

Within an hour they reached the campsite in Yosemite. After setting up their camp, both Gwen and Ben went to do their things. While Gwen was reading a book, Ben was playing a video game on his phone. Max watched their grandkid's eyes glued to their respective entertainment and let out a sigh.

„Kids, maybe you want to toast marshmallows?" -Max asked, showing a bag full of sweets. No one they seem to have heard him."Oh! Maybe you want some hamburgers? I invented a new recipe."

That seems to snap them back to reality. They both knew not to touch Max's cooking inventions. Last time they spend at least an hour in the toilet. In separate ones, of course. They had no intention of repeating that event in the slightest.

„No! Marshmallows are good!" -They both said in unison. Quickly going back to the fireside, they sat down and gave their grandpa their best smile.

'Always work.' -Max chuckled to himself.

For the next 10 minutes, they toasted their marshmallows and talked a bit. Ben felt somewhat happy. He remembered their last trip 5 years ago. It was only a camping trip for a few days, though. But it was still fun. Everything was better then.

„I'll go on a walk." -Ben announced and got up. As he turned around, he was stopped by Max.

„Sure you don't want us to go along?" -He asked calmly.

„I'm not gonna do anything to myself! -Ben snapped at his grandpa. Max and Gwen looked at him with worry."I'm sorry… I just wanna take a walk. I'll be back soon, I promise."

„Just be careful." -Gwen said, and Ben nodded.

Ben went into the forest and soon enough, Gwen and Max couldn't see him anymore. Max turned to his grandkid with a worried look.

„I don't know if it was a good idea." -Max admitted."Considering what happened a few weeks ago…"

„I know, but I should trust him." -Gwen replied and looked at the forest around her. It was dense and one could lose himself."Maybe, I'll go after him… You know so that he doesn't get lost."

„You do that." -Max said with a small smile. Quickly getting up, she rushed after her cousin."Damn it… Carl, Sandra, why can't you try to fix your relationship?"

[Woods, sometime later.]

Walking aimlessly, Ben decided to stop and look up. There were s many stars in the sky right now. He always wondered if there was something out there. If there was intelligent life on Earth, then why not out there?

Ben let out a sigh and glanced at his left wrist. There are a few barely noticeable cuts. He remembered how he did this to himself. A few weeks ago, Ben hit the lowest point in his life. Despite changing schools, Ben was still harassed by bullies from his previous school. One day, they gang up on him. They beat him up worse than usual and it didn't end there. They also urinated on him and dunk in the nearest garbage bin. It took him a few hours to get back home, but instead of having one normal evening, his parent were screaming at each other. Blaming one another that Ben turned out as he did because of the other. That put a nail in a coffin. He took one of the knives in the kitchen and runoff. The last thing he remembered was cutting himself in a corner before passing out. The next thing was waking up in a hospital. He was surrounded by his parents and Grandpa Max. Later even Gwen came to check on him. After that, he had to go to therapy almost every day to help him. One thing he learned from that experience was that he wasn't ready to die. He was too scared of it now.

'I won't hurt myself again. I won't do something like this to Grandpa and Gwen.' -He thought to himself. Looking up again, he noticed something moving in the sky. It looked like a shooting star."Maybe I'll make a wish…I wish something good happened to me this summer. As if that would happen!"

Then something strange happened. The shooting star changed its trajectory. It was as if the universe heard his wish and did something. Because now, the shooting star was going after him.

Snapping himself, Ben quickly turned around and started to run. He had to get as far as he possibly could. Before he knew it though, the shooting star crashed into the ground behind him. The shockwave pushed down and Ben landed on his face.

„Great landing, Tennyson." -Ben groaned out as he go up. He looked back and smoke came from a crater."Seriously… I did not wish for THAT to happen."

Walking up to the crater, Ben peered over to see how big the rock was. But after a glance, he realized that it wasn't a rock. It was some sort of metal ball. Or maybe a pod?

„What the hell is that?" -Ben said and jumped down to the crater.

He walked up to the pod to get a closer look. As soon as he got closer, the pod opened revealing something that glowed in green color. It was some kind of wristband watch(A/N: Season 3 Omnitrix from the Reboot). It suddenly split apart and launched itself at Ben's left wrist. The watch then wrapped itself around his wrist. It felt like his wrist was on fire.

„What the fuck?! Get off!" -Ben yelled, trying to rip the watch off. But it was as if someone hot glued it to his wrist. He quickly got out of the crater, still trying to take the watch off."Come on! Get off me you fucking piece of shit!"

„Ben! Why are you screaming?!" -Gwen's voice came out of the bushes. As she come out, she asked."What happened? Are you okay?"

„No! I can't get it off!" -Ben snapped, still trying to get the watch off.

„What can't you get off?" -Gwen asked and noticed the watch."What's that?"

„I don't know! I came out that pod in the crater and now I can't take it off!" -Ben yelled in frustration. Gwen smacked his head."Ouch! What was that for?"

„Stop screaming! Let me take a look." -She said and Ben showed her his wrist. She closely examined the watch and tried to take it off with a help of ailment. But it didn't work. Now Ben had a watch stuck to him and slippery hand too."Well… That's not good."

„Shit…Now what do I do?" -Ben muttered and pressed the button below the dial. Then the dial sprung up and a hologram of a creature appeared on top of the dial."Woah…Who is this guy?"

„Ben, I don't know if it's a good idea." -Gwen warned."We should go back and show it to Grandpa Max."

„C'mon, what do you think will happen? I'll turn into this creature?" -Ben joked and pressed the dial down. Then a bright green light consumed him. Gwen shielded her eyes as the light was too strong. Once it was gone, she looked back at Ben and gasped."What? Do I have something on my face?"

„No, but…" -She took her pocket mirror and showed Ben his reflection. But it was him anymore.

Now Ben was a humanoid, plant-like creature that has an overall green and black colored body, mostly with a red flame-patterned head and root-like feet, seemingly holding black rocks. His eyes were oval-shaped with points at each end with pupils copying the shape but were smaller. Also, his shoulders and head had red petals and his elbows and legs had green frills sticking out. The creature was taller than Gwen and had a distinct rotten stench. He also had the symbol of the watch dial on his chest.

„What the fuck is this?!" -He exclaimed and looked down at his body."I'm some sort of monster! Fuck! Fuck!"

„Stop screaming! Calm down, you're freaking me out!" -Gwen snapped at her cousin.

„Oh, I'm freaking you out? Look at me! You don't think I'm freaking out?" -He snapped back.

„I get it, but screaming at each other is not helping!" -She in a harsh tone."Just take a deep breath."

„Fine…" -Ben said and took a deep and long breath. He looked at his hand and some strange holes in his palms. Suddenly, flame burst out of them."Woah… Look at this!"

„Yeah, but be careful. We're in a forest." -She pointed at the trees around them.

„True… Guess We should go back." -Ben said and looked down."Hope I won't scare anyone on our way back."

Suddenly something or someone shot at them. But it wasn't a normal bullet. It was a laser. It came from above so Ben and Gwen lifted their head to see some sort of UFO-shaped robot. It was glaring at them with a single red eye.

„You don't think he wanted that watch, right?" -Ben asked facetiously.

„You think?!" -She snapped back. The robot aimed one of its guns at Gwen.

„Look out, Gwen!" -Ben exclaimed and shoved Gwen to the side. Instead of shooting Gwen, the robot shot and severed Ben's right arm. Both Gwen looked in horror as Ben's arm hit the ground lifelessly."Oh god, I think I'm gonna vomit!"

But to his surprise, a vine came out of his wound and attached itself to the severed arm. The vine pulled the arm back and reattached it to Ben's body. Both Gwen and Ben were dumbfounded.

„Shit…" -Gwen muttered to herself, not believing her own eyes.

„Okay, now you're in trouble!" -Ben said, ready to throw hands."Gwen! Run back to Grandpa, I got this!"

„But Ben!"-Gwen cried, worried for her cousin.

„Go! I got this!" -Ben replied as fireballs formed on his palms. He threw them at the robot, but missed."I'm not gonna repeat myself! GO!"

Gwen reluctantly turned back and run into the forest towards their camp. She was hoping that Ben wouldn't get himself killed.

As soon as Ben saw that Gwen was gone, he grinned. Now he could get his new body a test run. Forming a bigger fireball, Ben threw it toward the robot. Unfortunately, he missed again and this time his mistake caused a forest fire.

„No! I didn't mean to do this!" -He exclaimed and he got shot again. This time though it only passed through his body. It didn't hurt that much too."Gotta end this some other way…"

Suddenly the robot rammed into him. They went through a series of trees before crashing into a giant rock. Ben groaned in pain, but now that he was so close to the robot, he didn't plan to let go. He grabbed onto it tightly and decided to see how resistant this robot is. Pouring all his strength into it, he began torching the robot. Its body quickly got red and slowly began to melt. Some sparks of electricity came out of its body before finally exploding.

Despite being in close range, Ben was barely hurt by the blast.

„Man…That didn't feel nice." -Ben coughed up. He sniffed the air and cringed his nose."What's that smell? Is it me?" -Shaking his head, he looked back at the forest and saw fire in a distance."Shit… This my fault!"

He dashed toward the fire, thinking about how to stop it. He knew that they had lessons about forest fire and what to do about it. But they usually said to call the firefighters and stay away.

„Think, Ben! How do you stop a forest fire!" -Ben exclaimed as they reached the spot where He and Gwen were attacked. His head spun, trying to find a solution to this problem. Then it hit him. He watched a tv program about it. They said that to stop a forest fire you gotta start a new one so they can both snuff out each other."I hope it's a good idea…"

Then he heard someone coming. Believing it was another robot, he prepared for a fight. But to his relief, it was Gwen and their Grandpa Max.

„There you are! Where is that robot?" -Gwen asked and looked around."Dammit! I told you to be careful!"

„I destroyed that thing, but I didn't mean to start a fire!" -Ben snapped back.

„Ben…? Is that you?" -Max asked in confusion.' No, this can't be! Unless…'

„Yeah, it's him alright." -Gwen replied."But what about the fire?!"

„I think that I should start another fire." -Ben replied and Gwen facepalmed herself.

„How's that a good idea?" -She demanded.

„He's right Gwen." -Max said seriously."If he can start a new fire, then both new and old fire will snuff each other out. Can you do it?"

„Sure thing, Grandpa. I gotta fix this." -Ben replied seriously.

„Okay, We should head back and warn people nearby." -Max said, and Gwen nodded. Turning back, they disappeared behind the bushes.

„You got this, Tennyson." -Ben told himself and ran to the other side of the forest. Throwing another fireball, he stared at a new fire."I hope this works…"

[Later, Campsite.]

Ben, Gwen, and Max sat down by a fire. For the first minute, nobody said anything. Ben was still some sort of creature. Even he didn't want to talk. It was Gwen who decided to break the ice.

„So… What does it feel like?" -She asked Ben.

„I dunno… Different." -Ben shrugged.

„Duh, obviously." -Gwen rolled her eyes."But I want to know how are you feeling."

„Like I'm somebody else." -Ben replied and took a bite of marshmallow."I can hardly believe this isn't some sort of dream."

„Don't worry, Ben. I'm sure We'll figure something out." -Max assured.'If this is what I think it is then…'

„I wonder how." -Ben snorted."I'm some kind of freak now. How am I supposed to go back home? I'm stuck like this!"

„Calm down! Getting angry won't help you." -Max said in a serious tone."Maybe there is a way to revert whatever happened to you."

„Yeah, sure…." -Ben muttered to himself before letting a sigh. Then, the dial on his chest suddenly starts to flash red."Now, what?!" -In a red flash, Ben turned back to normal. Blinking in surprise, Ben check if he was normal back to normal. He was back."I'm back! I'm back!"

„See?" -Max chuckled."Now then… I'll go and check that crash site. When I get back We'll see what We can learn about that watch." -Max got up and went back to his RV. After a few seconds, he was back with a flashlight."I'll get back and in the meantime…Don't play with the watch, Ben."

„I'm not a kid anymore, Grandpa." -Ben whined, causing Gwen to snicker.

„I'm serious, Ben. We don't know what We're dealing here with." -Max said seriously. Ben nodded and Max left them to check the crash site.

„You're not going to listen to him, are you?" -Gwen said knowingly.

„He said We have to learn more about the watch." -Ben replied smugly. He tried turning the dial to see if it did anything else.

„He meant all of us, you know." -She said while crossing her arms.

„Don't pretend you're not interested in it all." -Ben replied smiling.

„Maybe a little." -Gwen admitted. She got closer to Ben and examined the watch as well."So, do you know how to turn it on?"

„I think I pressed this button." -He pointed and pressed the button below the dial. The dial rose and a hologram of the creature that Ben turned into appeared."There you go…"

„Turn the dial." -Gwen advised. Ben did so and the creature changed to another one. This time it was some hooded figure that looked almost like a bug. Next was a dinosaur-looking creature standing on two feet. After that, it was a manta-ray-looking creature."How can guys be in this thing?"

It was ten in total. Ten different creatures of various shapes and sizes. Ben was giddy now. At first, he was freaked out, but now he couldn't wait to test them all.

„Maybe this summer break won't be this boring." -He said with a smile.

„Okay, that's enough Ben." -Gwen warned."Grandpa will be mad he sees you turn into an alien or whatever these creatures are."

„You want to see another one, don't you?" -Ben teased and Gwen rolled her eyes.

„It's on you if he gets back on time." -Gwen said and waited for his cousin to transform.

Grinning, Ben slammed the dial down, and in a flash of green, he transformed into a new alien. Now he was a small monkey-like alien with four arms, two legs, three fingers on each hand and three toes on each foot, blue fur over a dark blue center, and a tail with two stripes near the tip. Again, the symbol of the watch was on his chest.

„Well…Okay." -Ben said as he got a feel of his new body. Having another pair of arms was pretty confusing."I wonder what this guy can do."

„Probably climbing trees better than any human." -Gwen joked and Ben looked at her."Don't know which eyes should I look into."

„I don't see any difference." -Ben shrugged. Looking up, he jumped high and landed on a nearby tree branch. Something was telling him there was more to this alien. He glanced at his tail and he instantly knew what to do. Aiming his tail at another tree branch, he shoots a thick web that stuck to the tree branch. He looked at Gwen who was surprised."I think I know what this guy can do."

Without saying another word, he swung himself to another tree. In mid-air, he shot another one and pulled him to the next tree. Ben's heart was beating with excitement.

„Man, this is awesome!" -He exclaimed while swinging around camp.

„That does look awesome." -Gwen muttered to herself.'Man, I wish I found that watch…'

Suddenly, Ben shot another web that formed a spider web around two trees. He landed and turned to his cousin.

„Come on, this is pretty cool up here!" -Ben said laughing. Gwen didn't remember the last time she heard Ben laugh like that. He was having fun.

„Alright, but don't do anything funny." -Gwen and started climbing up the spider web. It was sticky, but not too sticky at the same time. As soon as she reached Ben, they both turned to look at the full moon."What a sight."

„Isn't it?" -Ben agreed with a big smile. He was surprised that he was smiling. It was almost unnatural to him, but welcoming at the same time.

„Didn't I tell you not to play with the watch." -They heard Max's voice from below. He looked at them with a stern look. Gulping they both quickly got down and look at Max with the apologizing look."Anything to say?"

„Sorry, Grandpa." -They both said.

„I told you not to play around with it." -Max reprimanded."What if you can turn back?" -At that moment, the dial flashed red and Ben returned to normal."Okay, I take that one back. But still, You have to listen to me, Ben. I'm responsible for you, you know."

„I'm sorry…I didn't mean to disappoint you." -Ben lowered his head.

„Disappoint? When did I say that?" -Max said with a warm smile."I'm just worried. That's all." -Looking up, Ben smiled at his grandfather."That's some impressive spider web, kid."

„The views are pretty cool too." -Gwen added."Did you find anything at the crash site?"

„Not much besides this pod." -Max showed them the pod in his right hand."It's not made from any material made on Earth. That much I can tell."

„So it must be aliens." -Ben concluded."I mean, there is no other explanation, right?"

„True, but let's look at this later." -Max said and let out a yawn."It's been a long day. Let's get some shut-eye."

„Agreed." -Ben and they both went back to the RV.'This summer is gonna rock!'

Suddenly a radio blared live. Someone was broadcasting a massage.

[…Help! Help! There is some giant metal creature attacking our camp! Please, We need help! Anybody!...]

They all looked at each other and waited for someone to say something.

„Grandpa, should We…?" -Ben began, and his Grandfather seemed absentminded.

„I don't know Ben. I don't know." -He admitted.

„Grandpa, I think We should." -Gwen insisted."There are a lot of people out there."

„Yeah, besides they are after me." -Ben showed his watch."I can't let these robots hurt people because of me. Even if you don't allow me, I'll go. With great power comes great responsibility."

„You read that in a comic book." -Gwen chuckled.

„Maybe, but that's beside the point." -Ben shrugged."These people need help! And they need it right now."

„I agree…" -Max said finally."I don't like it, but you're right. Let's get ready, kids!"
