Authors Note: There will be major characters deaths in the story, though not until later in the story. There also will be no horcruxes so once Voldemort dies he's dead. This story is finished part of the way through fifth year and I have the rest planned out. This story will be posted on Saturdays and I won't be breaking it up by year, it will all be posted here.

Thanks for reading and don't forget to review!

I don't own Harry Potter or the one small reference to the Avengers later in the story.

It started, as most things did for Terrance, with his curiosity. One day his son, Liam, had come home from school chortling about a prank one of his classmates had pulled. Somehow the classmate, named Harry, had dyed the teacher's wig while it was still on her head.

That just did not seem possible so the next day Terrance took off of work early, as lead researcher he was easily able to do this, especially on Fridays, and waited for his son outside the school. Expecting him, Liam pointed out Harry and Terrance went and spoke to the boy.

He learned a lot of things for what was a very short conversation.

First and foremost, the boy had no idea how he'd managed to dye the wig. The boy looked at him with such earnest confusion that Terrance was almost convinced that the boy hadn't had anything to do with it. Almost.

Next he learnt that the boy's guardians were abusive. It was obvious just from the way the boy held himself so carefully, as if moving too much would hurt. He was also unnaturally thin with little to no baby fat for a child that age.

Lastly when his guardian, Petunia, caught sight of them talking she literally shrieked in rage and hauled the boy off while the boy looked terrified which told him that whatever was going on, Petunia knew.

Still the whole thing was mostly just an oddity. He wanted to know what was going on, but given his line of research he really didn't have time to spend too much thought on the whole affair.

Despite that, the incident didn't just disappear from his mind and come Monday he found himself pondering it as he laboriously did the paperwork that somehow seemed to generate on the weekends. When he finally took a break to go to the watercooler he couldn't help but share with his coworkers the strange event that took place. They too were puzzled and concerned and on the last point he was able to reassure them that he'd called child services, which just left the puzzle.

He'd asked around over the weekend and it had been revealed that it wasn't a spot of blue on an otherwise white wig, the entire wig had been turned blue. So he and his coworkers speculated for a time about how the poor boy had managed it.

Once more putting it out of his mind after his five minute break had turned into a fifteen minute break he went back to the grind.

It might have ended there if rumor and speculation hadn't reached his boss.

The next day, after a rather boring meeting, his boss Jennifer pulled him to the side and questioned him quite thoroughly on the incident.

Once more it might have ended there except that Jennifer had friends in high places, friends she met with quite regularly.

So it was that a bewildered Terrance was called to the Prime Minister's office on the following Saturday. He found Jennifer sitting in a conference room with the Prime Minister. She was looking as confused as Terrance did. Dutifully Terrance sat down beside her and explained the incident in as much detail as he could.

When he was finally done the Prime Minister steepled their fingers together and stared at them for a time, completely silent.

When they finally spoke there was none of the levity that had been aimed at the strange event by so many people, instead the Prime Minister was completely serious, "What I am about to do is illegal."

Both Jennifer and Terrance tensed but the Prime Minister continued on, "Ordinarily events like these are covered up, and quickly. Ordinarily we never hear about things like this."

The Prime Minister seemed to steel themself then said, "Magic is real."

Terrance stared blankly at the Prime Minister wondering if they'd gone around the bend. He'd heard it was a stressful job but he'd had no idea it drove people crazy.

"Don't look at me like that," the Prime Minister snapped and Terrance schooled his face, "Magic is real. There is a whole society of secret magic users and I tell you, I am just about done with them. They come in talking about their horrid war all the while hiding things that could change the world." They shook their head, "No I'm just about done with magic. As such, I would like you both to research magic, see how we can benefit from its users."

With that the Prime Minister laid out a plan that was equal parts crazy and brilliant, if it was all true.

When they were finally standing outside the conference room Terrance looked to his boss, "We're not actually going to do that, are we?"

Jennifer sighed and tugged on her hair, a nervous habit, "I don't see how we have a choice, they're the boss."

With that things were set in motion

Terrance went from being a Lead Researcher to a Substitute Teacher covering the class for Mrs. Gerritsen, who suddenly went to Aruba for no apparent reason.

He learnt a lot of things.

He learnt that no social worker had ever visited the Dursley family.

He learnt that the entire community thought that Harry Potter, ward of the Dursley family, was a criminal.

He learnt that Harry Potter wasn't a criminal. He was just a scared little boy who wanted to learn and be loved.

He learnt that it felt really shitty to use that boy's desire for love to manipulate him and gain his trust.

Finally he learnt that teleportation was real.

It was that incident that pushed everything over the edge.

Harry was running from Dudley and his gang, looking for a place to hide. Terrance had been on his way over to help when suddenly Harry was gone. Suddenly, before he could look for him, he heard a shout of surprise, and found the boy up on the school roof.

Having seen magic with his own two eyes he now couldn't help but believe it.

That afternoon, after classes let out, he called his supervisor, his real supervisor.

So it was that the Dursley family was approached that evening by two government workers.

They were belligerent.

They were rude.

They were pleased to get rid of the boy.

Who they retrieved from a closet under the stairs.

Having prepared for this Terrance brought the boy, not to a group home or a foster home, but to the special Research Facility, which had been built for this specifically over the past few months and well outside the limits of London, after picking up some fast food for them.

After putting the confused boy to bed in the room that had been prepared for him, Terrance took up his first night watch of the boy on the other side of the one sided glass.

The room was fit for a prince, Terrance comforted himself.

It had a large four poster bed, of which Terrance had pulled the curtains shut after he'd ensured the boy had laid down. As he watched the boy peaked out through the curtains to look at the rest of the room. It had a large desk and bookcase filled with age appropriate books. It had two toy chests filled with toys. It had a changing screen. The walls were painted yellow and the carpet was green.

It also was equipped with top of the line sensors that read out the boys vital signs for him. The boy was nervous, and confused, which Terrance could have figured out even without his heartrate showing up on the screen for him. It took ages for the boy to go to sleep and it was only then that Terrance allowed himself to lay down on the couch, in this room for this exact reason, and go to sleep.

He was shaken awake by Jennifer the next morning. "I still can't believe it, he teleported. He really teleported."

The school had suddenly been infused with a large amount of cash and much of it had gone to a top of the line security system which had allowed him to show Jennifer exactly what had happened the day before.

Despite having seen it yesterday, in Terrance's case in person, it was still rather shocking.

Terrance got and woke up Harry, instructing him to use the privacy screen that is painted with various animals to change. "That's what its there for," he said sternly and Harry nodded rapidly though he can tell that he doesn't understand.

Finally they head off to the cafeteria, after introducing Jennifer. As they sit down Terrance asks, "Do you have any questions?" He's been carefully urging the boy to ask questions without fear of reprisal. Truth be told he'd rather favored the boy, even over his own son, who he'd learnt was a bit of a bully.

After a moment of hesitation Harry asks, "Where are we?"

Jennifer answered, "We're at Research Facility 57A."

That clearly doesn't fully answer the question so Terrance says, "We're outside of London, near Reading."

Harry nods and pokes at his food after muttering a quiet thanks.

Finally Terrance said, "That foods for eating, not playing with."

Harry hesitates then said, "Uncle says no food for me for three days."

Terrance and Jennifer exchanged horrified looks at the thought of depriving a six year old of food.

Terrance recovered first, "Well you'll never see your uncle again, so you don't need to worry about that, just eat your food."

Harry stared at him for several minutes, the question clear in his eyes. Terrance just stared back. Harry needed to be able to ask questions, he's not just going to be the subject of research after all.

Finally Harry turned back to his, by now cold, food, and began to eat leaving Terrance disappointed.

After he finishes eating Jennifer begins to explain, "You recall that you teleported yesterday?"

Harry shook his head no and Jennifer frowned, "When you were being chased by those boys? You suddenly appeared on the roof?"

Harry's eyes widened and he muttered, "I thought the wind caught me or something."

"Well you teleported. We've brought you here because we're going to find out how you are able to do things like that and teach you how to do more. But first, the doctor."
