Author's Note: Well you all asked for it, now it is my responsibility to deliver. I have taken the original chapter, expanded on it, and split it between two separate chapters, mostly because the original is right where I left it and Fan fiction doesn't like it when I post the same chapter across multiple stories. Chapter 1: We Have Made A Huge Mistake

Kaede Honjou, Screen name Maple, was currently in the library of the seventh floor, also known as the monster floor, of New World Online. With each new floor the Developers implement new updates, such as new skills. Maple needed all the help she could get, according to Maple, sinking all of her points into defence meant that there were few and far between skills that she could actually make use of since she only needed ones that either scaled with defence or didn't need the other stats to attack. After that she'd start looking for new quests that would grant her unique skills, and after that she'd check to see if there were any tasty looking monsters around that she could eat and get the skills of. Course most people would argue that being the third ranked player on the server she was doing pretty well for herself. What she did not expect though was that she'd be getting a quest notification while in the town's library itself, but there was a marker attached to the nearby shelf. So she pulled out the book that it was attached to.

"The Four Cardinal Heroes." Intrigued Maple picked up the book and began to have a gander. "'Once every thousand years the world comes under the threat of the Waves of Catastrophe. Four Heroes wielding the legendary weapons are summoned to defend the lands by a red haired princess. The four weapons are a Spear, a Sword, a Bow and a Shield.' Oh that would explain it!" Maple stated looking like she had a eureka moment.

This must have been a quest that would pull people together from the various different floors to fight together! And it reacted to her because of her Great Shield Class. Skipping over to the section on the shield Hero Maple clicked Yes to accept the quest. Suddenly Maple fell down a massive golden corridor, not in the VR world where NWO takes place, but inside of her bedroom in the real world.

"What load of crap is this!?" Tanya Von Degurechaff angrily threw the folder detailing her next assignment at the wall in front of her from her hospital bed.

The folder in question detailed how she was to be assigned as a test subject to help perfect the Elenium Type 95 Operation Orb for use in combat. Seeing as how it catastrophically failed nearly killing her twice, once from the explosion and again from the 6000 foot fall, she had the perfect modification to make to it: convert the type 95 into a tactical explosive and drop it on the heads of the enemy to wipe out large battalions. Clearly someone hadn't taken her constructive criticism very well: probably that self proclaimed scientist who repeatedly ignored her warnings that the damned thing was going to explode in favour of trying to keep up with his clearly way too high expectations for his own invention. Tanya was about to get out of the hospital in a couple of hours, and she had a feeling that her next stop after the laboratory would be the morgue. Lamenting her circumstances Tanya looked over to a book left on her bed side, 'The Four Cardinal Heroes'. Clearly someone had made the common mistake that her mind was as old as her body looked, whatever anything to stop thinking about this war torn shit hole of a planet was good.

"'Once every thousand years the world comes under the threat of the Waves of Catastrophe. Four Heroes wielding the legendary weapons are summoned to defend the lands by a red haired princess. The four weapons are a Spear, a Sword, a Bow and a Shield.' Clearly someone doesn't know me very well." Tanya turned the page to her own personal favourite the bow. "I'd take your waves of catastrophe over living here one single day longer."

Suddenly Tanya's bed disappeared under her, rather than plummeting into the floor however she instead entered into free fall into a golden corridor only one thing crossed her mind.

"DAMN IT NOT AGAIN!"

Katarina Claes excitedly gave the fellow eight year olds of her book club Sophia Ascart and Mary Hunt a hug before she was led inside of Sophia's mansion, followed shortly after by her brother/cousin Keith who was carrying the contents of the meeting with him.

"Sorry for treating you like a mule Keith." Katarina stated watching her brother put the books down beside the couch she had been sitting on.

"It's alright big sis." Even though Keith said that he still wiped his forehead with a handkerchief.

"I know!" Katarina looked like she had a brilliant idea even though everyone else were thinking that it was going to be anything but. "Why don't you pick the first book that we read!"

"Ah..." Keith began looking through the stack of books. "I'm not much of a romantic sis but... what about this one?" Keith picked up a book titled 'The Four Cardinal Heroes' Leading to the others to be confused.

"Don't look at me, you're the ones who brought it here." Mary stated shrugging her shoulders in confusion.

"Well, I asked Anna to pick up all the new releases." Katarina stated scratching her head. "Doesn't look very big. Let's have a Look." And thus with Katarina's suggestion all four of them were reading the book. "'Once every thousand years the world comes under the threat of the Waves of Catastrophe. Four Heroes wielding the legendary weapons are summoned to defend the lands by a red haired princess. The four weapons are a Spear, a Sword, a Bow and a Shield.' This is a weird sounding story." Sophia stated scratching her head. "I mean isn't it usually the sword that gets top billing?"

"There was that one about a legendary outlaw that uses a bow though." Keith pointed out prompting the others to nod their heads.

"The sword is occasionally paired with a shield too. I don't remember a lot of stories about legendary spears though." Mary stated after taking a moment to wrack her child brain.

"Which is weird because the odds are in their favour." Keith stated prompting confused looks from the others.

"What do you mean?" Katarina asked as she and her fellow girls gave the lone boy equally confused looks.

"Well the army teaches it's soldiers how to use spears. Not Swords." Keith took a prop in the form of a coat rack to make his point. "For one thing they have reach, which lets you strike at the enemy from the middle ground like this!" With a Hiyah! Keith knocked over the book stack. "And with the sharp end you can do stabbing and sweeping attacks." Keith continued to assault the imaginary enemies in front of him. "With the blunt end you've got the weight to knock over armoured enemies." Keith followed up the assault by slamming the other end of the coat rack into his imaginary enemy then made a move to stab him in the throat with what he had designated as the sharp end. "If you really get desperate you can throw it for long range or break it for close quarters." The girls gave a impressed clapping of their hands while Keith took a bow.

"Wow, maybe I should try taking up the spear instead of the sword." Suddenly Katarina's brother and two friends both disappeared as Katarina herself started a free fall down through a golden corridor.

"Kuro! KURO!" Illya held onto her dark skinned sister's hand as she slowly started to fade from existence.

Darius, may he rot in hell, had just ripped her core, the EMIYA Archer card out of her body and now the pseudo heroic spirit that had been built around it, Kuro, was slowly fading from existence. Kuro hadn't the strength to speak but she was content. For one thing she wasn't someone who was suppose to exist in the first place, so she should be grateful for what time that she did have to spend with her family.

"KU..." Illya's words had been cut off, by Kuro's loss of consciousness she assumed, until she realised she had stopped fading. Forcing open her eyes Kuro realised that everything had been stopped, including the break down of her body though not her specifically, and not the two figures that had appeared besides her.

"Well you're in a right proper mess aren't you?" The man stated leaning down to reveal messy black hair and a green cloak, the sun and Kuro's lack of a clear head made everything else harder to make out.

"I'm a little busy right now." Kuro admitted reluctantly.

"You can die some other time." The man handed the girl on the ground a book. "Ever heard of inter world transportation magic?" Kuro shook her head in the negative. "Long and complicated process short. You get broken down over here and reconstructed over there. You're already breaking down, so we just skip to the part where you turn into a flesh and blood being over there." Tempting, but somehow she doubted it was free, nor did she suspected that she would have to be transported to another world for this to work.

"And in exchange?"

"Huu." The man looked like he was in the middle of something difficult. "Look I don't like having to do this. But I need help. A lot of people are going to get hurt if I don't nip this shit storm in the bun." The man indicated the battlefield before them. "You and the man you're based on both seem to be exceptionally skilled in the use of violence, he a little more so but it's been my experience that suicidal people don't make for very good recruits." So he needed people to help him, she needed a body not made out of magic and falling apart at the seams. Sounded like a fair trade anyway.

"Deal." And so Kuro fell down the golden shaft, light entering her body as she was reconstructed on the other side.

The Court Magician was staring off in wide eyed shock as his mind tried to process what was going on and by all accounts, failing in spectacular fashion. The Legendary Heroes, worshipped as gods by the people of this world, destined to save them from from the Waves of Catastrophe, protectors of the people of man kind, were four little girls piled on the ground in front of them. He was going to hang for this, or be declared mad, or be declared mad and then hanged.

"Has the quest... started...?" Maple looked down at her arm and realised to her horror that she was dressed in her pyjamas, as she was in the real world. "Oh... I think we're in trouble."

"This again." Tanya looked around the dungeon like room with suspicious eyes. The good news was she wasn't starting out as infant again, though that might be preferable if she got to be in a male body again.

"UWAH!" Katarina panicked as she looked around the room. This whole mess has 'Doom' written all over it in big bold capital letters. "Where am I? What happened?" Katarina sized up the three people standing next to her. "What happened to Keith? And Sophia? And Mary!? Where are my friends!?"

The final of the four, one who was dressed in something resembling a armoured bikini with a red coat draped over her shoulders, felt herself up before pulling on her cheek and confirmed her ability to feel pain. "Well that worked. Now than." She scanned the room with golden, sleepy, predatory eyes.

In addition to being yanked away from where they were into unfamiliar surroundings the four of them were also holding unfamiliar weapons. Tanya checked the draw on her bow string, Katarina was examining the spear in her hands, Kuro attempted to slit her own wrist with the blade and failed miserably, and Maple was still on the ground trying to come to terms with reality.

"For now, some explanations are in order." Tanya turned her attention to the court magicians. "Of which I assume you are suppose to be responsible for." The court magicians looked like they were having a harder time processing the reality in front of them then Maple was. And that was saying something.

"For now. We would like you to meet our king, explanations will follow. We hope." The magicians led the four of them through the castle, after a period of time Kuro had to run back to the summoning room to grab Maple.

Tanya assessed the castle as they walked, No modern light fixtures, no sign of electricity, just windows and candles for light. So then: Medieval level of technology, renaissance at the most, if that ritual room was any indication they were decently well versed in magic too. But the castle interested her less than the people she had been walking with. One in modern day clothing, one was wearing a dress suitable for the child of a noble woman, one was dressed in a armoured Bikini clearly designed by some perverted game designer, given the fact that she couldn't have even been 13 one with a sick imagination but moving on. This would be the third world Tanya has stepped foot on, it would make sense if there were more. On the subject of which what was happening wasn't nearly as interesting as what wasn't, no time stops, no attempts to drag her back into the hell of her world by Being X. She would break out in glee if she had some idea of what she was doing.

The four of them had been led into the throne room where the court collectively gasped when the realisation of the implication behind the four little girls carrying familiar weapons presence and the magicians sent to summon the legendary heroes with them. The old man who should've been king looked between the court magician and the little girls the first of whom nodded in the affirmative. The King proceeded to look between the girls and the magician a second time leading to another nod of the head. The longer this silent conversation went on the more apparent the look of horror on the faces of the court became and the more readily apparent that they were not the ones who were going to be resolving this situation.

"Ahem!" Tanya cleared her throat realising that someone had to move this bigger by the moment multi-car pile up of a wreck forward before it got harder to dig themselves out. "Warrant Officer Tanya Von Degurechaff of the Germanian Empire, currently unassigned." Tanya saluted as she looked around trying to figure out which of her fellow summoned would introduce themselves next.

Kuro smiled as she decided to try and snap Maple back to reality. "OUCH!" Kuro would need a moment, nursing her hand after trying to slap Maple into a coherent state, Maple too seeing as how she failed.

"I am King Consort Aultcray Melromarc the 34th of the Kingdom of Melromarc." As if something had finally gone right that day the rest of the court came to order. "Before we discuss why you are here might I hear your names?" The group of heroes collectively turned their heads to face the muttering Shield Bearer who looked like she was having a increasingly harder time convincing herself she was in a game.

"Oh. Lady Katarina Claes of the Claes Duchy." Katarina stated giving out curtsy.

While Katarina was introducing herself Tanya was shaking Maple into Consciousness.

"Wahahaha!" Maple became coherent around the time that Kuro recovered from the sting in her hand.

"Chloe Von Einzbern, Kuro to my friends." Kuro explained shaking the numbness out of her hand.

"I see. Tanya, Katarina and Chloe. I shall remember your names her-."

"Ahem!" Tanya cleared her throat again and indicated for the person she just shook into consciousness to introduce herself. "Oh ah... Kaede Honjou screen name Maple." She still didn't quite look all there, though now for some reason something about her sweater had fascinated her.

"We have called the four of you here because of a grave threat which threatens our world. We call them the Waves of Catastrophe."

The King's explanation went as such, once a month a hole opens up in the sky somewhere above the kingdom through which monsters from another world pours through to threaten the populace would appear. They already got attacked once already and now their so-called 'Dragon's Hourglass' was counting down to the next such incident. Their weapons possess the capacity to automatically transport them to the sight of the wave using the Dragon Hourglass where they will have to fight and defeat the leader of the enemy forces to stop the wave.

"You want us to save your world?" Katarina asked indicating herself with a mixed look of horror and confusion.

Kuro didn't say anything, just shifted eyes around with blatant suspicion when the king called them heroes.

"So in other words I'll only be thrown into life threatening situations every month as opposed to every other day." Well, it wasn't too different from what life in Germania had been like thus far. "Do we have any idea of what we're suppose to be doing?" The four of them had retired to their room for the night, given the fact that they were all female and the bed had been intended for a grown man they had decided to share.

"Uh. There's a icon in the bottom right of my vision." Maple concentrated on said Icon and a H.U.D. had appeared. "Oh it popped up the menu. So this part is like New World Online." The others proceeded to follow suit though Maple was a step ahead of them. "Oh good there's a help menu. That's a relief."

The sound of a gavel banging echoed out as the meeting came to order.

"I chairman Katarina call this meeting of the Council of Katarina's to order." A Katarina dressed in a judge's robes with a obviously fake moustache stated from the head of the table.

"We've really stepped in it now!" Timid Katarina stated looking around fearfully. "We had enough doom flags to deal with back when we lived in a dating sim!"

"Are you kidding!? This'll be easy in comparison to Fortune Lover! We've got a all powerful legendary weapon on our side!" Excitable Katarina stated fist waving in the air.

'Legendary Spear Atk +5 Def +3'

"When you think about..." Logical Katarina stated pushing her glasses up. "When you ignore the name, This Spear is like a starter weapon in a video game."

The council of Katarina's five functioning brain cells opened a screen showing the Katarina's point of view, and the audio to go with it, for now she focused he attention on Tanya.

"So we kill monsters, get something called XP, and level up, in the process growing more powerful as well." Tanya's voiced echoed out in Katarina's empty head leading to the five of them to reach a new conclusion.

"This isn't like a starter weapon in a video game. This is a starter weapon in a video game!" Hot blooded Katarina concluded quickly.

"Are we playing the video game or are we getting played though. I mean..." Memories flashed back at how bad they were at video games, particularly focusing on a screen shot from when they got a achievement known as 'loser.' "We're kind of in a bad spot either way."

The Katarina's changed their point of focus from Tanya to Kuro and Maple.

"Well that's fascinating. If we feed the monsters we kill to these things then we'll unlock some transformations and increase it's power." Kuro stated scratching her chin in thought clueless to being watched by the audience of Katarina's.

"Well, that part is like New World Online too." Maple admitted to seeing the similarity.

"Yosh! Then all we have to do is make this thing into a super duper spear!" Hot blooded Katarina stated fist pumping again. "Then No one will be able to stop us!"

""""AYE!""""

Back in the real world the five idiots in Katarina's head had voltroned together into a uber idiot and she could rejoin the conversation.

"So we're going to have to be hunting monsters if we want to be strong enough to be useful. Not just any monsters though, we have to hunt new monsters every time if we want to maintain a steady growth rate." Katarina concluded rubbing her chin. So much for not being in danger most of the time.

"And we have to do so without being near any of the rest of us." Kuro followed up. "Otherwise these things will cancel our XP gains according to this anyway."

"That's counter productive." Tanya admitted with blatant suspicion.

"Tomorrow's problems can wait until Tomorrow!" Maple seemed to finally regain her senses as the conversation was moving forward now. "Let's get some sleep for tonight then!"

The King was rubbing his face mentally exhausted. Children. They have summoned children the youngest of which couldn't have been any older then little Melty. The moral implications behind their actions were already damning enough, but instead of veteran warriors they were now reliant on young children to save their world. One of them holds military rank of some kind, simultaneously relieving and horrifying but she was the best they had to work with.

"Father, you seemed troubled." Malty invited herself into the office. "Is there something wrong?"

"We summoned four little girls to try and keep the world safe from the waves of catastrophe." The King's tone of voice was self depreciating and harsh. "Including the shield?" Malty asked and the King nodded his head. Well that plan just got chucked out the window. "Perhaps the weapons mean to tell us something? Perhaps the waves are not going to be as much of a problem as we fear?" Malty suggested causing a reluctant nod from the king as he conceded the point.

"In that I hope you are right." The King stated eyes wandering over to the wine bottle on his desk. No too early for that, they had to scrap some of their preparations that had taken them a week to put together and replace them with new plans instead, and they needed to be ready by morning.

Review Section:

General Reaction: I'm so happy to see that my little joke has gained such a overwhelming positive reaction! Well you all asked for it. But now for a more detailed series of responses to some of you.

ptl: Yes, Maple was in her mid teens, even though she looks younger to me, so I'm going to write it that she looks young and short for her age. And yes, you should pity her, the fact that Melromarc's government is made of shield hating ass-holes hasn't changed just because the legendary weapon is attached to a little girl now, nor that Malty has stopped being a manipulative psychopath. Mostly it was because it was either her or Mein of Ascendance of a Bookworm for the spear hero. Well the reconstruction process I mentioned earlier has smoothed out her abilities a little so hurrah for being sent to another world. Don't worry about that part, she and the slave trader are going to be 'best friends.'

drmcgraw186: All good ideas.
