Butterfly, Flutterby.

Chapter One

As Harry tried to catch his breath, having just been thrown from the Black Lake onto the dock, he couldn't help but wish for the hundredth time that his name had never been spat out of the damned Goblet of Fire and he cursed whoever it was that placed his name in there in the first place! Why was it always him, why couldn't he just have a normal school year without some mad person trying to kill him?

Snatching the offered blanket from one of the tournament officials, he had just wrapped it around his shivering shoulders when someone ploughed into him, nearly sending them tumbling back into the freezing lake.

"You saved 'er. Even though she was not your 'ostage," Fleur remarked, placing kisses on his cheeks in gratitude at saving her little sister.

"I couldn't leave her down there could I?" Harry asked rhetorically as he gently away from the French girl, unused to being hugged even after three years of friendship with Hermione.

"Merci, merci je vous dois une dette," she remarked in quick French that he couldn't understand, but from her tone and the way she'd clutched at him, he inferred she was saying she was grateful for his actions.

"It's fine, you should make sure she's okay," he told her, motioning back towards Fleur's little sister, who was being fussed over by several older students, he could still see a gleam of fear in her eyes at what she'd just been through. "She's bound to be scared after everything she's been through."

"Harry, that was incredibly brave and incredibly stupid," Hermione remarked to her friend when she finally managed to get close enough to him. "Why did you go back, you should have surfaced."

"Yeah, you would have come in first if you came up with me. Now you're in third place," Ron pointed out, as though the competition was all that mattered.

"Some things are more important than fame and gold," Harry replied to his friend with a frown.

"Whatever mate, the kid was safe. As though Dumbledore would have let anything happen to us," Ron said with a shrug, shouting out when he was barged out the way by a tiny blonde French girl as she barrelled towards Harry, her small arms wrapping around his blanket covered torso.

"Merci, merci d'avoir sauvé ma vie," she told him quickly before leaning up and pressing a soft kiss to his cheek. "You save me, thank you," she repeated, her English slightly broken as she thanked him. "I owe you my life mon héros."

"I'm not a hero, I'm just Harry," he told the young witch. "You should go back to your sister and headmistress, I think we'll be heading back up to the school soon," he added, gently nudging her back towards her schoolmates, before being pulled away by Ron and Hermione.

"I think that you've got a new admirer," Hermione said with a teasing smile as she nudged him as they walked up towards the school.

"Yeah, cause I don't have enough of those as it is," Harry replied sardonically with a roll of his eyes, the two friends gently jostling each other as they walked around the lake and back up to the castle, trying their best to put the events of the last hour behind them and looking forward to relaxing and having a laugh with everyone for the rest of the day.

Fear.

That was all he could see in people's eyes as Harry walked around the school three days after the end of the Triwizard Tournament.

Three days after he returned from a graveyard hundreds of miles away from the apparent safety of Hogwarts, clutching Cedric's dead body in one hand and a pointless, shiny trophy in the other, shouting for all the world to hear that Voldemort was back. He couldn't blame them for their fear, he himself was scared. A part of him envied the French and Northern students and their imminent departure, they could go back to their own countries and more than likely wouldn't have to worry about the mad man that was finally coming out of the shadows.

Harry was just walking through the courtyard when he heard his name being called. Not wanting to get into another argument with yet another student about whether or not Voldemort was back or not, he spun around ready to tell whoever it was to leave him alone only to come face to face with the shyly smiling Gabrielle Delacour. "Hi Gabrielle, you okay?" he asked kindly, wondering what the little French girl wanted, especially considering he'd spotted her watching him around the castle since the second task.

"We go 'ome to France tomorrow," Gabrielle told him slowly and quietly forcing Harry to lean forward slightly so he could hear her. "I was 'oping that you would let me write to you, s'il vous plaît?" she asked him, wringing her hands around the blue ribbons of her Beauxbatons uniform.

Harry couldn't help but frown at the question she asked, not understanding why she would want to stay in contact with him when the only real interaction the two had had was marred by fear and panic. "Surely there are girls your own age that you can write to, why do you want to write to me?" he asked her.

Gabrielle frowned slightly as she thought about how to answer, "Vous êtes entouré de gens et pourtant vous avez toujours l'air si seul," she told him quickly, before offering a slight giggle at the confused look on his face, clearly not understanding a word she'd said. With a look of concentration on her face that Harry could only describe as adorable, she told him "You look like you could do with a new friend. And I need someone to improv' my anglaise with," she added with a smile, one that Harry couldn't help but respond to.

"I think Hermione would tell you that my own English isn't that good either," he told her with a smile, grinning slightly when he saw her face fall at the thought that he would say no. "But if you want write to me then I won't say no. It'll be nice to know that you and your sister stay safe," he told her, laughing when she gave him a beaming smile, hugging him quickly before running back into the school after thanking him again, leaving a confused Harry staring after her, wondering just what he'd just signed himself up for.

Well that's chapter one, I hope you enjoyed it! Please let me know what you think and look out for chapter 2.
