In my "Life without Penny" series the four male principal characters in TBBT split up. Only Sheldon stays at Caltech, Leonard returns home to Princeton, Howard moves to the Kennedy Space Centre and Raj returns to his alma mater of Cambridge University. What happened to Raj?

###############

Raj was in Professor Gablehauser's office.

"We have all been impressed with your work here at Caltech Dr. Koothrappali but I am afraid that we have not been able to get the funding to extend your contract. Your work here at Caltech will end in six months time. We will do all that we can to help you find a new position but it probably won't be here at Caltech."

Raj was not feeling good when he got back to his office. He wished that his old friend Howard was still around so he could talk to him but he had moved to Kennedy a month earlier. He knew he would get a sympathetic ear from Leonard at lunchtime but it wouldn't be the same without Howard. Raj decided to send Howard an email.

However, just before he started on a new email message, he noticed a very interesting email in his inbox. It was from Professor Anderson, his Ph.D supervisor from Cambridge University.

Dear Raj

Hello from Cambridge, how are things over the pond? I was very impressed with your recent paper on the distribution of dwarf planets in the Kuiper Belt, good to see that you are still doing high quality science out there in California.

Would you be interested in a possible return to Cambridge? There are going to be two new lectureships in astrophysics here at the start of the new academic year. I think that you would be an excellent candidate if you were to apply. There are details of the new posts attached to the email, contact me if you need any more information.

hope to see you soon in Cambridge

That evening Raj had his weekly video chat with his parents.

"Hello Mummy and Daddy, I have bad news and good news…."
