Dreams of the Future

Chapter 1
It had been a few weeks since Kara, Alex, and Nia had returned to National City. Kate had been to the city the week before for the court date regarding her receivership of Obsidian North and CatCo. Cat Grant had made her appearance in the court as well. The judge had to review all of the financial records for the former owner of CatCo. and the tentative agreement between her and the receiver of the company - Kate Kane.
Obsidian North was a different story. The scientists, engineers, and support staff had been offered jobs as part of Wayne Enterprises new National City office. That office would be in the old Obsidian North's space. Extensive renovations were underway and those that had already signed on were helping with the layout of the equipment in the space.
Obsidian's patents were forfeit upon the company's owners being arrested. All of them were under investigation couldn't be refiled until their validity was secured. Once the validity was established, by the scientists and engineers who actually developed the equipment, then the patents would go in their names, not in the company's. Wayne Enterprises offered their patent lawyer team to those that joined their ranks.
Most of Obsidian's workers had been living off of unemployment or taking jobs way below their usual pay level, just to keep their families afloat. It was a no-brainer to join Wayne Enterprises, especially since they offered a great benefits package. Though there were a few like Kelly, who had already decided to move on, but Kate had made it clear that the doors were always open at Wayne Enterprises.
Kelly's classes were going well and she'd able to apply for social working jobs within the next few months. The VA loans had been helpful in paying for her classes but not having a job had really been financially tricky. Alex had been working with J'onn at his private detective agency. It was money but not as consistent as they would have liked. Lena offered to help the two out, stating that the former director of the DEO should be eligible for a pension, even though she quit. Alex had objected at first, never one for charity, but Lena said that it wasn't charity. She would put Alex on the payroll as a private investigation consultant. The raven-haired woman also said that she offered the same to J'onn and Brainy. This meant that when times were tough at the detective agency, they'd still have something to fall back on. Lena knew that super-heroing did not pay the bills and it would probably take up more time than they realized.
Alex talked to J'onn and Brainy about it. They weren't sure about the arrangement, but they decided that they'd let it stand for now. The three of them knew that she was just looking out for them and they appreciated it.
Kara and Nia were back at CatCo. for now. William and the rest of their coworkers were excited at the prospect of working for Cat Grant again, but the decision was still a few days away. Still, they were glad that Kate Kane had stepped in to save their jobs.
"Can I interest you in a fresh cup of coffee?" William asked of his two favorite coworkers as he approached their desks. He'd brought in baked goods of his own making and everyone was enjoying them as usual.
"Oh, I could use one," Kara smiled at him.
"Me too. I didn't get much sleep last night," Nia admitted.
"You feeling, ok?" William was concerned. She was the coworker that had a tendency to fall asleep at the drop of the hat.
"I just couldn't shut off my brain. Brainy sleeps like a log. I honestly don't know how he does it," Nia shook her head. William gave her a slight smile and quickly headed off to the coffee machine.
"Are you having dreams?" Kara whispered.
"First chance we get, we need to meet at the Tower. I'm not convinced that they're signaling anything other than there could be something wrong with me," Nia whispered back. That made Kara especially nervous and she hoped her friend was wrong.
