A/N: Hey guys! I am so excited to be back and even more excited to be rewriting the first story I ever posted! Its been 7 years since I first posted Silence and I didn't expect the attention it got but OH MY GOODNESS it led me to making so many friends on this site and Tumblr! I would like to say to my returning readers, that know this story, It is going to have the same plot but you might notice some changes as I now have a lot more writing experience and a lot more life experience as well! Also, this was originally a triple treble, and it is now going to be a Bechloe/Staubrey. That could change later but we will see what happens. To any new readers, WELCOME! I write very dark, very angsty stories. So, if that isn't your style, this probably isn't the story for you. Everyone else, I hope you enjoy this reboot of my first story! As always, please review and let me know what you think! TRIGGER WARNING for the entire story. (Abuse, Rape, stalking, etc.)

There has been an accident.

Chloe had no idea that those five words were about to change her entire world. Everything she was used to, everything she knew and was familiar with, would be changed forever. She was shoving her feet into a pair of shoes, the phone trapped between her cheek and her shoulder as Aubrey stared at her wide eyed and questioning.

She mouthed to Chloe asking her what was going on as she too slipped on a pair of shoes and followed quickly after the girl who was leaving the apartment within thirty seconds of answering the phone.

She didn't get her answer until they were in the car, Aubrey behind the wheel as she had snatched the keys from Chloe, not about to let her drive in the state she was in.

"Chloe, where am I going?" She asked as she backed out of the parking spot at their apartment complex.

"Lake wood Hospital, the emergency room." She said and then spat into the phone, "Just be waiting in the lobby so you can take us back to her." Aubrey felt her stomach twist as Chloe hung up the phone and dropped her head into her hands, taking a deep breath.

"Who is it? What happened?" Aubrey asked as she pulled out onto the main road, heading toward the freeway.

"It's Beca. She had an accident, at Jesses apartment."

Aubrey glanced at Chloe, her own hands tightening on the wheel. She knew what Chloe was thinking and wished she could ease her best friends' fears. But she knew better than that, and the same worry filled her. Beca had been practically MIA for the last three days. Only texting Chloe a couple of times to tell her she was spending a few days at Jesse's place.

"Try to breathe, we will be there soon." She said as she pulled onto the freeway and hit the gas, immediately getting up to speed and they were pulling up to the hospital within fifteen minutes.

Aubrey pulled up to the doors and Chloe got out. "I'll park and call Stacie, she will want to be here. I'll see you in there." She said as Chloe nodded and hurried into the building.

She ignored the front desk and immediately scanned the waiting room, where she spotted Jesse standing near the large aquarium in the back of the room. His teeth biting into his fist as he stared blankly at the exotic fish.

"Jesse." Chloe called as she walked toward him.

He turned around and she could see his face was tight with worry, and his hair was disheveled. He looked as though he hadn't slept in days.

"You made it fast-" he started but she cut him off.

"What happened, where is she?" She said stopping in front of him.

"They took her back for an X-ray. She tripped going down the stairs at my apartment." He said.

Chloe could feel the blood drain from her face. The image of the cement stairs, with the iron hand rails that lead up to Jesse's second floor apartment flashing through her mind.

"Oh my god." She said. "How bad is she?"

He shook his head looking down. "It's not good, she fell from the first couple stairs and went all the way down. I… I heard it from in my apartment but by the time I got outside, she was unconscious at the bottom."

"Did you drive her here, or-"

"No. I called an ambulance. I didn't want to move her in case she hurt her back or something." He said and she watched his face pale slightly.

"Jesus Christ. Have you called her Dad?" She asked.

"I did but he didn't answer, he is out of town with his wife, some anniversary trip or something. I called you when I couldn't get ahold of him."

Chloe nodded and was about to ask him more when she heard her name being called. She turned to see Aubrey coming toward them. Jesse let out a breath and turned around, to face the aquarium again as she reached them.

"What happened?" She asked.

"She fell down the stairs at his apartment. She lost consciousness and he called an ambulance but that's all I know so far. She is getting an X-ray." She said.

Aubrey looked at Jesse. "What is she having X-rayed?" He turned back to them, fresh tears in his eyes.

"Everything." He said and Aubrey closed her eyes taking a deep breath. "Who is treating her? I have a friend that works here." She said looking around and spotted a Nurse walking to the front desk with a file in her hands. She didn't wait for an answer before hurrying over to her.

"What is she doing?" Jesse asked and Chloe watched as Aubrey spoke with the woman.

"She just said she has a friend that works here. She is probably looking for her to see if she has any more information."

She turned back to Jesse. "How did she trip? Do you know?"

"No, I told you, I was in my apartment. I heard the commotion and went out there, but she was already at the bottom." She was carrying her laptop bag and another bag with clothes in it, but her laptop broke. It fell out of the bag when I lifted it."

Chloe shook her head, Becas whole life was on that laptop.

Aubrey was walking back over typing something into her phone.

"What did you find out?" Chloe asked and Aubrey pocketed her phone.

"Stacie is on her way. My friend Caroline was one of the nurses that saw Beca when she was first brought in. She is with her now."

"So, what now? Do you need to call anymore Bella's? Or do you think there is going to be enough of you here?" Jesse asked and neither of them missed the venom in his voice.

"We are her friends; we are worried about her. And her other friends deserve to know if she is okay. Its not like anyone has even heard from her in three days." Chloe said and pulled out her phone to text the group chat and let them know what was happening.

"She needed a break from everyone. She was overwhelmed with her work and the Bella's on top of it. I told her she shouldn't have moved into that house with everyone."

Aubrey glared at him. She knew perfectly well that Beca wasn't in need of a break from anyone in the Bella house. She loved living there and she loved the time she spent with her friends. She also knew how hard Jesse pushed for her to move in with him hen he got his apartment Junior year. She refused and they ended up nearly breaking up over it.

Beca didn't need a break. Jesse didn't want to share his time with Beca, and that's why she had been gone for three days.

Before Chloe got a chance to call him on his lie a doctor walked out calling out Becas name.

They all hurried over, and he looked at them curiously. "Are you here for Beca Mitchell?"

"Yes, we are her friends."

"Does she have any family?" He asked.

"Yes, but he is away on vacation. I think I am her emergency contact though." Chloe said and Jesse whipped his head around to look at her.

The doctor flipped open the chart he held and without looking up he asked, "Your name and date of birth?"

"Chloe Beale, April 14th, 1991." He nodded. "Okay, Miss Beale you are listed as her emergency contact and since she has no family here, I can speak to you regarding Miss Mitchell. You two can take a seat and I'll let you know when she can have visitors." He said and Aubrey nodded in understanding. Jesse, however, was red in the face and the vein in his neck was protruding.

"I am her boyfriend. I'm the one that called the ambulance. I think I have a right to know whatever she can know."

"I apologize Sir, but that isn't possible. A family member, or emergency contact are the only people I can speak to." He said and gestured for Chloe to walk through the door he had come out of. She walked past him and felt him behind her. Knowing that Jesse was about to flip out.

As soon as the doors closed, He led her down the hallway. "I am Dr. Strickland, I am treating Beca."

"Is she okay?"

He stopped and sighed, "Miss Beale, to be perfectly honest, I have some serious concerns and Beca refused to talk to me."

Chloe's blood ran cold and she felt it drain from her face. "What did he do?" She asked, her teeth clenched.

The look of surprise on his face told her everything. "What do you know about Becas relationship with Jesse?"

"I have theory's and worries. I know that three days ago she went to his apartment and I got a text that day and that night saying she needed some time away from everything and she would be at his place for a while. And then today he called saying there had been an accident. She fell down the stairs to his apartment."

He nodded. "Some of her injuries are consistent with a fall down the stairs." He said.

"Some?" She asked.

"Beca has bruises that are older than what she would have gotten from a fall an hour ago. She won't tell me how they happened, however. She said she fell and that was that. She is over the age of eighteen so legally I can't do anything unless she wants me too."

"I will talk to her." Chloe said. "She trusts me."

"I assume the theories you spoke of, consisted of your friend being in an unhealthy relationship?"

"If that's that nice way of saying that I think Jesse is abusing her, then yes. I think he is and has been. I doubt this fall was even an accident." She folded her arms.

"What makes you feel this way?"

"They have been together for almost four years. We all met at the same time in college and I have been around the whole time. He changed. She changed. The way he acts, when we are around, and the way she acts around him… it's very telling."

Dr. Strickland nodded. "I see. Well, it would be good if you could get her to talk to you. Especially if this wasn't an accident."

"How bad is she?" Chloe asked. He opened his chart and took a breath.

"Well, she is pretty banged up. Arms, legs, face, back and abdomen are bruised. She has a few lacerations on her hands, knees and face. She needed six stitches on her forehead, just into her hairline. Two broken fingers, and a cracked rib. We are waiting for her X-rays to be looked at to see if there is anything else that may be broken. She was in rough shape when she was brought in. She is also refusing pain medication."

Chloe shook her head. "Jesus."

"I can take you back to see her."

"Thank you, but if I may ask, our friend is out there with him and to be frank, I think it would be better for everyone if she were with me. She and Jesse don't see eye to eye, and he was already acting aggressively toward us. I would be lying if I said they won't kill each other."

"Is that something Beca would be okay with?"

"She doesn't have to come into the room if she isn't, just to be away from him would be enough."

He nodded. "Okay, one moment."

She watched as he walked over to the door and opened it, calling out Aubrey's name and motioning for her.

Chloe watched as they spoke for a second, then Aubrey and Stacie walked through.

"Chloe, what's going on?" Aubrey asked as they walked up.

"I'm going to speak with Beca, hi Stacie." She said hugging the woman as they reached them.

"I'll asked Beca if you can come in, but you might have to wait outside the room."

Aubrey nodded. "That's fine. Thank you for allowing us to come back." She said to the Doctor.

He smiled kindly and motioned for them to continue down the hallway.

When they reached the room, Chloe turned to Aubrey. "I'll go in and see how she is feeling and see if she is okay for all of us to be here." She said and Dr. Strickland opened the door and she followed him in.

She couldn't stop the tears that welled up in her eyes when she saw Beca. She had tubes taped to her arms, that held IV's and her fingers were in splints. She was dotted with dark bruises and her ankle was wrapped.

"Miss Mitchell, I have Chloe here with me."

She flinched, opening her eyes and Chloe could see her body relax slightly when she registered who it was. "Hey, Chlo." She said, her voice was weak and scratchy.

"Hey Becs." She said sniffling. "Are you okay? Does anything hurt?"

She smiled sadly. "I'm okay."

"Aubrey and Stacie are outside." Chloe said and Beca looked toward the door.

"What are they doing out there?" She asked and Chloe couldn't help but chuckle. "Is it okay if they come in?"

She nodded tiredly as the doctor checked her vitals.

Chloe left and came back with Aubrey and Stacie close behind her.

They stayed quiet at they end of her bed, while Chloe went to the opposite side the doctor was on.

"Your lungs sound good, and your heart rate is down." He said hooking his stethoscope around his neck.

"Your x-ray results should be ready, and I will bring them in shortly, but I would like to give you a few minutes alone with your friends." He said. "If you need anything or you change your mind about the pain medication, please press your call button." He said.

"Thank you."

He nodded and walked out, leaving them alone.

"Why aren't you getting anything for pain?" Aubrey asked, her tone sharp and Chloe rolled her eyes in amusement. She knew Aubrey wasn't angry, just worried.

"Hi, Bree. Its nice to see you." Beca tried to lighten the mood but Aubrey looked down.

"You scared the hell out of us. What happened?"

She looked away, fiddling with the tube in her arm.

"I missed a step at the apartment and fell. I had my bags on my shoulders and was off balance, so when I missed it, the weight just pulled me down." She said.

Chloe reached up slowly, to move her hair out of her face. When she did that, they could see what Chloe had seen. A yellowish bruise around the outside of her eye.

"And the black eye?" She asked, her voice soft, and not accusatory.

Beca looked back down and let her hair fall again. "I don't know."

"Beca, I know." Chloe said gently. Aubrey and Stacie looked at her, both had worry in their eyes.

"You don't know anything." She said, her voice shaky. "Please just drop it, okay? Please?"

Aubrey and Stacie exchanged glances. Chloe sighed and carefully took Becas hand, crouching down beside the bed so she could see her.

"Beca, I know. And so does your Doctor. We can make sure it never happens again; you just have to say the word."

She watched as Becas eyes darted nervously over the blanket covering her lap. Her hand tightened around Chloe's and tears gathered in her eyes. "W-where is he?" her voice came out as barely a whisper.

"Out in the waiting room. They wouldn't let him back because he isn't family and I am your emergency contact. He can't get to you, Beca, I promise."

Stacie and Aubrey again exchanged glances, both becoming uneasy.

"You don't have to be brave with me. I see what you're doing, and you don't have too. You are safe now. You are safe with us." Chloe said.

It was as if that was all Beca needed to hear. Her body trembled and a heart wrenching sob escaped her chest.

Chloe was on her feet and gently embracing her within seconds. "It's okay, I've got you Beca." She cooed. "Shh, Shh, you're safe now."

She cried, hard and painful sobs into Chloe's neck as Stacie and Aubrey cried silently at the end of the bed, the full picture of what happened to their friend becoming clear.

"P-please, make s-sure he can't come back here? Please?" Beca begged and Aubrey and Stacie were out the door looking for her doctor and security.

"What happened Beca?" Chloe asked, "Please tell me so we can help you?"

She closed her eyes tightly as more tears fell and she took a shuddering breath.

Out in the waiting room, Jesse was pacing angrily. Sweat coated his forehead and his heart was beating fast. When the Doctor allowed Chloe, Aubrey and Stacie back the anger that filled him was almost overwhelming and he knew something was happening. Beca wouldn't tell though. She was smarter than that. She knew what would happen if she ever told.

It had been nearly thirty minutes however and no one had come back out. No doctor came to update him. Nothing. His nerves were getting the better of him, as was the anger. He looked toward the doors that they went through, and then looked at the nurse's station.

Beca kept her eyes locked on her lap, she was shaking, and Chloe wished she could take her fear away. Aubrey and Stacie had returned with Dr. Strickland and they informed security that Jesse Swanson was not to be let back to her room.

"I-it wasn't an accident." She said. "Jesse wouldn't let me leave his apartment. He has kept me there against my will for the last three days. Th-this morning, I was able to escape but he caught me at the top of the stairs."

No one in the room was breathing as Beca spoke. The three women were listening in horror and the Doctor was already getting his phone ready.

She choked out another sob, and Chloe squeezed her hand gently. "It's okay Beca." She said carefully.

"He threw me down the stairs." She said. "I was at the bottom, and I couldn't move, everything hurt. He came down, and told me that if I told anyone, he would kill me. I must have blacked out because the next thing I knew I was in an ambulance."

"Oh my god, Beca. I am so sorry. I should have gone over there; I knew something wasn't right." Chloe laid her head down on Becas lap, her emotions taking over.

"I am so sorry, for what you have gone through, Beca. If you would like to press charges, I can contact the police."

Aubrey met Becas eyes and nodded slowly.

Beca took a breath and nodded. "Okay."

The police were on route when Stacie got a message.

"It's Amy." She said. "She and the rest of the Bella's are here. She said they walked in right behind two Police officers."

Aubrey gave her a questioning look. Stacie had gone quiet as she read the message and her face paled.

"What's going on?" Chloe asked.

She looked at Beca. "She said, just after they got into the waiting room and met Jesse-"

"I'm sorry to interrupt." Dr. Strickland said walking in, followed by two Police officers.

"Hello, I'm Officer Harris." The woman said, "This is my partner Officer Collins."

Beca nodded at them.

"We were told you wish to press charges against your boyfriend for assault?"

She nodded again. "Yes."

"Is he here right now?" Officer Harris asked.

"In the waiting room." Chloe said.

Stacie stepped forward. "Actually, that's what I was just about to say. Amy texted me, she said when Jesse saw the police he slipped out of the building. Lily followed him but by the time she got outside he was gone."

Becas eyes grew and her breathing became labored. "He's gone?"
