Rainbow Legend: Spirit of the Dragon

Chapter 1: The Prophecy

Narrator's POV

"The story of my life is the story of the people in it. Unlike most fairy tales anyone has heard, mine is a story of hope, love, and painful events, and learning to find happiness again. It is true because I was there and I remember everything. I remember the sun, the sky, and the wind calling me as it led me to my destiny. Now everyone has a story of their own, but mine is a legend and every legend begins with a hero.

This hero was a man of honor, loyalty, and brave hearted. But he wasn't just any man, no, because he was also the first Green Lantern of his planet…and a father."

-Neo Terra, Planet Terragon aka Sector 3518-

The planet Terragon, also known as Sector 3518, is a beautiful, lush full world known for its natural resources, vast landmarks that can amaze anyone, but most of all, the kind inhabitants, the Terragonians. What's unique about this planet is that there are countless species of Terragonians, both technological, organic, and wildlife. The Terragonians are especially known for their power to transform into dragons gifted with unique elemental powers.

On a mountain side, there was a land where a Japanese theme house stood. It was sturdy, well built, and big enough for many people to live. It had a chimney, a blue roof, and a small garden next to it. Out the house was a vast field where it had plenty of grass, a big pond, and a few trees for shade. There was also a field of planted vegetables and stairs that lead to the bottom of the mountain.

Overlooking the sky and the land below the mountain was a Terragonian, whose species is known as a Daemon. Daemons are either human or imp like creatures with sharp teeth, unique markings on their faces and high strength, speed, and endurance. This Daemon is a tall man in his late 30's with green eyes, bright orange hair, a vertical line under each eye, wearing a green shirt, brown jeans, boots, a wrist band, and a scarlet scarf. On his right hand was a green lantern ring on his ring finger. His name is Avian and he is the very first Green Lantern of his planet. He been a lantern for years and he is honored for the position of Honor Guard as well. He stood looking out until he was interrupted from his thoughts.

"Nervous, aren't we?"

Avian turned and formed a smile when a beautiful woman, who was his wife, came to him. She has mahogany eyes and long mahogany hair, peach skin and wore a simple pink dress. She was heavily pregnant with their child, her stomach showing as she came to him.

"You always know exactly how I feel, Holly, my dear." He embraced her when she joined him. He then gently caressed her belly, hoping to feel the baby kicking. "How is our child doing? I hope he or she isn't causing you any trouble."

"I'm sure that he is well, but mostly impatient to arrive in order to meet us." Holly answered kindly. She was sure that the baby will be a boy, even if Avian doubts it.

"How do you know that it will be a boy?" He wondered while staring lovingly at her.

"I just have a feeling. Whenever I think of the baby, I picture him as a healthy baby boy." Holly answered.

"I hope you're right, my dear. Very soon, perhaps in a couple of days, we'll finally get to meet the baby." He said as they both watched the land from their home. "This place will be a safe place to raise our child: Fresh air, away from the dangers below, and plenty of space."

"You did well, my love." She nodded. "I love it here and the neighborhood is beautiful, too."

"You know what else is beautiful?" He smiled at her.

"What?" She lovingly asked, even though she knew the answer.

"I'm looking at her." She chuckled as he pulled her into a gentle, yet passionate kiss. "I consider myself lucky to be married to such a flower."

"Oh, you are such a charmer." Holly joked when he called her nickname.

"I try." He was about to pull her into another kiss when suddenly his ring started beeping, making him groan. "Oh no. Not now!"

"What is it?" She asked worriedly.

"It's them again." Avian groaned as he then answered the ring. "Green Lantern Avian here, what's the news?"

An elderly yet bossy voice called out of the ring. "Honor Guard and Green Lantern of Sector 3518, report for a meeting on Oa. Priority One."

"I can't leave now. My wife's expecting our child any day now! I can't just leave her alone!" Avian argued. He could hear the voice sighing.

"Bring her here. We'll have the hospital ready, just in case. Report immediately."The call then was dropped.

"Is everything alright?" Holly asked, grabbing her mate's arm in comfort.

"Unfortunately, I must go back to Oa. It looks like it's important." He told her.

"How long will it take?"

"I don't know, but they let me take you there so that you may be with me. They have doctors and hospitals there. You'll be safe and receive care there, that is, if you want to."

Holly thought for a moment. She thought it doesn't matter where to have the baby as long as it was born healthy and unharmed. She then hugged her mate and smiled. "I'm coming with you."

Avian hugged her back, relieved to know that he'll be with his love. "Then we'll go, but let's bring a couple of loyal soldiers for your protection, just in case."

Holly nodded in agreement for she understood how worried Avian can be.

-Planet Oa-

Avian didn't take very long to arrive on the Green Lantern Planet. With his ring activated, he wore his green Lantern uniform which looks like a green open jacket with boots and bodysuit. Using his ring, he carried Holly and two Terragonians to guard Holly, a Techno Organic (a half human and half cybernetic being) named Sparx and another Daemon named Barrel, safely with him.

As they flew around the city, many green lanterns greeted Avian with warm welcomes and greetings.

"You must be quite famous here." Holly said amazed by how many lanterns greeted him.

"Oh, they are just amazed that a green lantern like me had left this place and actually came back after so long." Avian joked, making Holly and the others laugh.

It wasn't long until they reached the Guardians' council chamber. Once inside, Avian meets Salaak, the four armed Green Lantern, operating his computer systems until he greeted the Terragonian.

"Avian of Terragon, it's a pleasure to see you again." He greeted.

"The feeling's mutual, Salaak. It's been a while." Avian said, shaking hands with Salaak.

"I see that you brought some company with you."

"Yes, I have." Avian nodded as he introduced them to him. "Salaak, this is Sparx and Barrel, fellow loyal warriors of Terragon, and my wife Holly." Holly and the others nodded in greeting.

"Nice to meet you." Holly said kindly.

"Please, tell me. Is it true that you're going to be a father anytime now?" Salaak asked noticing Holly's swollen belly.

"Boy, word travels fast. I can't believe you've already heard that." Avian chuckled as he nodded.

"If you want, I can send some green lanterns to escort your wife to the nearest hospital while you attend the council with the Guardians. They will help her until you return, if she doesn't mind."

Avian turned to Holly with a concern look. She nodded in agreement which made him smile. "That would be very helpful. I'll be grateful if Holly receives some help and comfort."

"In that case, I'll send the lanterns to her immediately and your guards will assist her." Salaak confirmed. "The Guardians will see you now."

"Thank you, Salaak." Avian then turned to his wife and kissed her forehead. "I'll see you soon, my love."

"We'll be waiting." She then placed her hands on her belly as Avian placed his hand on hers. Avian then proceeded inside with Salaak next to him.

Once they've entered inside, the Guardians soon came one by one to their respective places. When Appa Ali Apsa finally came, he spoke directly to Avian.

"Avian of Terragon, Honor guard and green lantern of sector 3518, I'm pleased to see you have arrived at such a crucial moment."

"Yes, I agree." Ganthet spoke wisely. "But before we begin, I must congratulate you in soon becoming a father."

"Thank you, Ganthet. I appreciate in all of you letting me bring Holly here, despite her condition. She's receiving special treatment right at this moment." Avian spoke respectfully. "If I may ask, why was I summoned here?"

The Guardians stared at one another until they faced the Green Lanterns in the room.

"I'm afraid that this is personal matter where it includes only you, 3518." Appa continued. "Green lantern Salaak, will you please leave us? This is a matter only Avian must pursue alone."

"As you wish." Salaak bowed respectfully as he left the room.

"Follow us Avian." Appa insisted as he, Ganthet, and Sayd flew ahead with Avian following behind.

The Guardians led Avian to the hall of records where the Book of Oa is located. Avian wondered why he was brought here. As they reach closer to the book, Appa spoke.

"You're probably wondering why you were brought here, 3518." Avian nodded. "The reason is that something peculiar had appeared in the Book of Oa."

"How peculiar?" Avian wondered.

"It appears that we were given a prophecy for an upcoming event." Ganthet explained as he turned to the book. "Book of Oa, display the page where the prophecy is written."

The book turned the pages until it presented what they asked for. "If you please, Avian, read this out loud." Sayd kindly asked.

Avian stepped forward nervously and read what the page was stated:

"In the darkest hour, a dragon's heart will bring doom,
when he awakens a dark beast from its tomb.
The enemy will bond with a monster of evil's might,
and together will bring an end to the lantern's light.
When all seems lost, a young hero will rise,
with his allies' harmony right before his eyes;
together they shall see evil's demise.
The chosen one, powered with the rainbow's glow,
is the one who is a lantern but does not know,
for he shall bring a new tomorrow."

After reading the prophecy, Avian's face turned to deep worry and concern. "Is this why you brought me here?" The Guardians nodded. "And you think I'm the one mentioned in the prophecy?"

"I understand what you're thinking, Avian, but do not fear, it is not you." Sayd answered.

"Then who is?"

"That is why we brought you here." Appa explained. "Though it is true that you're not the one who will be the chosen one, you both share the same origin and this mark."

The pages turned to reveal the mark of Avian's kind which represents two dragons flying in a circle. Avian gasped as he looked at his shoulder which bears the same mark at shown in the book only his has a unique symbol in the center which looks like a feather creating a rainbow beam. This symbol is known as a Valor Mark which is a symbol that represents something that a Terragonian earns by discovering the key that makes you who you are.

"You're saying it's a Terragonian? But that's impossible because I'm the only lantern from that planet."

"That is true." Ganthet agreed. "However, it may be possible that either you haven't met the chosen one or maybe, he wasn't born yet."

"According to the book, there is one more clue that we're given. It says that the chosen one is a lantern born on Oa."

Avian knew that this prophecy is important, but he was afraid and nervous about what kind of enemy they will face. If the chosen one is someone from his home planet, then as a lantern he must protect him or her, whoever it may be.

I will try writing as much as I can and soon, but if I don't, just know that it is cause I'm studying a lot. Thanks for understanding!

I like to give thanks for the inspiration of writing this story to Juliette01 and all Green Lantern and Razaya fans out there.
