War. War never changes.
On October 23rd, 2077, man's predisposition for conflict reached its apex, though the problem began many decades prior. When the United Nations dissolved in 2052 Europe was plunged into a frenetic and desperate struggle for the resources that the UN spent decades trying to diplomatically broker for. Member states of the European Commonwealth invaded the Middle East in search of oil. This went on for eight years until, at long last, the oil wells ran dry, and Europe descended further into chaos and war.
When the struggle between the United States and the People's Republic of China reached its final, solemn end, Europe was not spared. U.S missile installations throughout the EC let loose into the bright afternoon sky their warheads before being targeted in kind, and Chinese partisans and sleeper cells were unleashed all across the continent. Nukes, gas bombs, sabotage, Europe was spared no mercy.
When the last bomb fell, and the dust settled, man was still standing. In the wake of the decades of war that had preceded it the Great War ushered in a new era of conflict between the survivors. The resources of yesterday's war; oil, gold, and money were forgotten in favor of the war for tomorrow's resources: water, food, and shelter. Man left his bread lines and dropped his ration coupons and took up arms against his neighbor so that he might see just one more tomorrow.
Beyond these petty machinations rose new political aims. A paradigm shift driven by a desire to restore stability and prosperity to a world utterly destroyed. All across the political spectrum, across the broad wings of that majestic bald eagle, parties and groups and movements all took up arms against their opponents so that they might see a better tomorrow.
It is here, then, in the heart of Europe that one of many such conflicts took place. All across Germany, from Berlin to Hamburg, from Munich to Berchtesgaden, from the Rhine to the Elbe, a great conflict swept the land, amidst the backdrop of the daily struggle to survive. A conflict that had been brewing for years, one in which the actors and set pieces never changed, and in which the goals and motivations were just mirrored images of yesterday's war.
Foreword: any Germans reading this story will take all of five minutes to realize I've never been to the country, and maybe seven minutes to realize I don't speak the language beyond ein Kindergartenniveau. Es tut mir leid, ich lerne. Danke schon, Duolingo. I am an American, living in America, and this story is an American's take on Germany in the Fallout universe as seen through my American perspective. Anything not directly related to established Fallout lore, the Fallout Bible, or the known history of the Federal Republic of Germany is entirely my own creation and exists in a vacuum for the purposes of giving the story its own identity.
