Scrubbing the dishes clean, I looked at the door as my parents walked in, closing the door behind them so that the cold couldn't get in. It was snowing, it was always snowing here in Alaska, but that didn't stop us from living here. I loved the cold, I didn't feel more at home than anywhere else if there wasn't snow.
"Hey, did the power go out here as well?" My mother asked, with me nodding.
"Yeah, but the generator kicked in so we'll be fine." I said as I turned around to continue the dishes. "What did the sheriff want?" I asked as he had called all parents out of the house for some reason.
"Wanted to make sure everyone was fine, but he also told us to stay inside and if people don't have a generator then they will have to bunk with someone else." My father said as he walked over to the pantry and opened it, where he picked his gun up, alarming me as he never reached for his gun.
"Is everything ok?" I asked as I stopped doing what I was doing, where he turned to me.
"No, there was some gunfire earlier, I want to make sure that we are safe." He said, with me nodding, followed by knocking on our front door, with all of us looking at it. "Room, now!" He said, with me nodding and making my way up there. Once I was up stairs, there was a crash from the kitchen window. Making my way back down, I saw my mother getting pulled out of the window, screaming her head off. Running over to the window, I looked outside to the left and saw her getting dragged under our neighbors house, with dad running over there.
Running back upstairs, I opened the addict and ran up the ladder, with me closing it soon after. Hearing my father scream in pain, I went into the far corner and covered my ears as I didn't know what was happening.
Later
Hearing footsteps below, I looked over at the ladder as it was lowered, with me grabbing one of the metal pipes and holding it at the ready. Making my way over to it, I watched as a group of people started rushing up, only to stop as they saw me. "Dakota, you're alive!" James, my fathers boss, said as he rushed up and looked around. "Where are your parents?" He asked, with me shaking my head as they started coming up one by one before closing the ladder.
"What's going on, what's happening out there?" I asked, with them shaking their heads.
"We don't know, all phones, computers, everything is down. The dogs and planes are dead too." He said, with me nodding as this was a full on attack. Without phones or computers, we had no way of calling for help. Without the Dogs or planes, we didn't have any transportation other than cars.
"What about Dads truck, it should-"
"Its tipped over, those things flipped it with one hand!" John informed, with me going back to my corner and sitting down.
"Things? So they are monsters?" I asked, not sure what to believe anymore.
"They eat people and bullets do nothing to them." He said, with me remembering that gun fire was going off not long ago. "The sheriff will be here soon, he's distracting them so we could move." He said, with me nodding as that was a good plan.
"You chose here because our addict is well hidden." I said, with him nodding as he sat down.
"We just have to wait until then." He said, with me nodding as that was our only plan.
Later
Seeing the ladder lower once more, I walked over to it, but James stopped me. Looking at him, he took point, with him looking over the edge, with him relaxing. Letting the ladder down, I watched as Sasha and the Sheriff, Corbin, came up, as well as his brother, Hew. "Is there anyone else?" I asked, with them shaking their heads as we brought up the ladder once more.
"Good to see you're ok." Corbin said as he patted me on the shoulder, with me going back to my corner and sitting down. "Ok, we can stay here for a couple of days. After that, we will have to leave, get supplies, and better living conditions." He said as he looked at me. "These walls, are there any windows?" He asked, with me nodding.
"One, but I covered it up and only have access to it through a little flap so that I can see where they are." I said, with him nodding.
"Food, how much do you have down stairs that doesn't need to be cooked?" He asked, with me thinking about it.
"Not much, pop tarts, cookies, some canned food?" I said with him nodding.
"That should last us a few days." He said, looking at everyone. "We're going to have to take up shifts, Dakota, you ok with taking first shit?" He asked, with me nodding.
"I've been watching everything once I learned we were under attack by the undead." I said, with him nodding.
"When you start to get tired, wake me or Sasha up and we will go from there." He said, with me nodding as I took first watch.
Later
"Help!" I heard, with me looking over at Corbin, Sasha and James as they came over to the window. "Help!" We heard once more, with us seeing a girl walking down the road.
"We have to get her inside before she draws their attention!" James said, with me shaking my head.
"No, she's being used as bait!" I said, with them looking at me. "My father told me some of his hunting stories, one of them involved making some animal noises to draw out the prey." I said, with Corbin looking out the window once more.
"He's right, look at the houses behind her." He said, with James taking a look, then me as I saw them on the roofs. "Going out is suicide." He said, with me nodding. "That said, we can't let her die." He said, with me looking at him. "I will go out and get her." He said, with me sighing as I didn't want to die by some idiots choice.
"If you get caught, you don't come back!" I said, with him nodding as he made his way to the ladder and left.
Later
Seeing Corbin come back up, I watched as Sasha and Hew helped him. "His inhaler is gone, and they turned your father into one of them." Sasha said, shocking me that he was one of them. "He's dead, again." She said, with me sitting back down as they sat Corbin down and Sasha went back to the window where I went back to sleep.
Later
Hearing something on the roof, I looked up as it ran across it. Seeing Corbin make his way to the window, he looked outside. "Once its safe we have to move." He said, looking at us.
"Using the blizzard as cover." I said, realizing what his plan was. "Then let's get ready!" I said, where I started packing the remaining food up just incase.
Later
Walking into the store, we all gathered up on Corbin. You three, food, store owner, propane, Jake, medical supplies, everyone else, batteries and the like!" He said, with us making a move for it, with me opening the bag and stuffing them in without caring what we grabbed, as long as it was something that would fill our stomachs up fast like cookies or even canned food.
Hearing someone groan, I looked up and over at them, with me slowly walking over there with the pipe in hand, just incase. I reached the spot with two others, with us seeing Marcus being eaten by a little girl. "I'm done playing with this one." She said, with the other two backing up a she turned to us. "You want to play with me?" She asked, where they ran, but I couldn't out of fear.
She jumped at me, with me getting life back into my legs and charged, grabbing her arms and pushed her into the back room. Crashing into the back, I slammed her onto the ground, with me seeing more bodies laying about. Looking at them, I then looked at her bloody mouth. "You want to become a hunter, well, every hunter has its own hunter!" I said as she pushed me back, where she ended up on top of me and tried to bite my face. Slowly lifting her up, I pinned her to the wall. "Lets see how you like it when you're the one being eaten!" I said as I tossed her down and jumped onto her back, where I bit into her neck and ripped out a huge chunk of it.
Chewing it, I swallowed it once it was grounded up good enough. Seeing her scream, I placed my hands in the wound and pulled her head off by using as much strength that I could. Standing up, I made my way out of the back, with me seeing Corbin standing there with his axe at the ready. "Dakota?" He questioned, holding his axe up.
"She's dead." I said, tossing the girl's head forward. "I also don't feel so good." I said, where I threw up to the side, where Sasha came forward and rubbed my back as I threw up.
"Get him come water!" She said, with me holding my hand out as James came forward and handed me the bottle, with me cleaning my mouth out and off as well as drinking the rest. "You ok?" She asked, with me nodding.
"Yeah, just... never thought I would do something like that." I said as we went back to gathering supplies.
"The white outs over." Martha said, with us looking at her as she turned to us, with us knowing that we were going to have to stay here for now.
Later
Looking in the mirror, I saw my eyes were red, and my blonde hair had now became as white as the snow. I was becoming paler, but that was most likely due to the lack of sun, or light. Looking at my hands, I saw I had claws for finger nails. Bringing them up to my mouth, I bit them and ripped them off, with them growing back in seconds, only as normal finger nails.
I was becoming one of them, but they didn't heal like I did. Something was seriously wrong with me. Dad didn't heal, and the others who were bitten didn't get up, so maybe it affects others differently. If that was the case, wouldn't I be hungry for blood as well? I didn't know how it all went, but one thing was for sure, I couldn't be around the others anymore, I was a risk.
Hearing a knock on the door, a light one, I quickly turned to face it. "Dakota, are you ok?" James asked, with me walking up to the door and opening is slowly, letting him see me.
"I don't know." I said, with him backing up in fear. "I have to leave." I said, closing the door and locking it. Hearing him hurrying away, I made my way over to the window and broke it with my elbow. Climbing out, I jumped with me jumping higher that I could ever imagine. Landing on the roof, I started running, with me jumping from roof to roof to get away from them in fear that my transformation wasn't complete and that I would end up killing all of them.
Later
Its been days and nothing has changed, I still eat like a normal person, but I have also grown a taste for blood. I had learned this once I had seen a survivor getting eaten. My senses are even better, my strength is on another level, my speed is like no other. If I am to help the others, I have to get better control over my powers.
The final day, the day the sun rises
Seeing them plunge holes into the pipe line, I saw the oil spilling out into the village, with me knowing what I was going to have to do. Seeing as everyone made their way to the factory, I was now free to act against them. Seven all in total, like wild beasts looking for their food.
They didn't always stick together, they ran off in search for food. The first one wasn't paying attention and as I ran by, I ripped his head off. The second was jumping from roof to roof, and I tore him in half as I jumped up between two houses. The third was feasting on Hew, where I dragged her away, with her screaming loud enough to warn the others. I tore her limb from limb before ending her. The fourth was searching for me, and I crushed them as I jumped onto them. The fifth and sixth were a team, they never split apart from the other. Speed was the key to get them, and get them I did. The fifth one was dragged away as I plunged my fist into his chest, killing him. The sixth went crazy as he looked for me, and with that, I ripped his head off as well.
The seventh, the leader, was calm and collected as he searched for me. He had no openings as he walked, always aware of his surroundings, always looking behind him. One by one he found his friends, and one by one he was starting to lose his cool. On the last one, he finally screamed in anger, a loud roar that was a warning to anyone still here that he was going to kill them.
That was when I struck. Jumping at him, he turned to me as I lifted him up and slammed him into a car. Getting scratched across the face, I turned to him as it healed in seconds, shocking him. Lifting him up again, I slammed him into the car over and over again until the tires gave out, with me tossing him into the closes wall. It was then that I saw Sasha and some other kid were under there and made a run for it.
I paid them no mind after that as I rushed at him, with him smacking me in the throat. I spat out blood from the impact, where he started slashing at me over and over, but I healed faster than he could do damage to me. Grabbing him arm, I twisted it, getting a pained noise from him, before ripping it off. Taking his arm, I trusted it into his chest, with him looking at me with a shocked expression before speaking in Latin before passing.
Hearing footsteps, I turned and saw the others, Corbin, Sasha, Jake, James and the kid. Turning around, I threw my hood up and started leaving the village, as this was the last that they will see of me. I wasn't a vampire, I wasn't even human. I was a freak that didn't belong with either party. A Human who became a cannibal for Vampire blood.
