Chapter 1. An Ordinary Day

Loki laid on his back in a grassy field in the gardens of Asgard, looking up at the clear night sky. "May I join you?" Thor asked. Loki let out a small sigh. "Of course." He replied, though he wanted to be alone so he could think about his recurring dream. Thor laid next to his brother, putting his arms behind his head. Loki thought maybe Thor could help him make since of his dream. "So, I've been having this dream lately. There was a woman with light brown hair, green eyes and she also wears glasses . . . we are sitting side by side on the thrones in Jotunheim." Loki explained. Thor laughed. Loki looked at him. "I'm sorry to laugh, but you're not a Jotun and I'm sure that Laufey would not allow non-Jotuns to rule his kingdom." Thor said. Loki got up and went inside the palace without a word. Leaving Thor to wonder if he upset his brother by laughing at his dreams.

As the days went on Loki's dreams about this woman continued to recur. So, he decided he wanted to find her. There were so many beautiful goddesses in Asgard but none of them matched the woman from his dream. Loki stood on the balcony outside of his room with Frigg. "What makes you believe that this woman is an Asgardian?" she asked. Loki turned to his mother, "Do you think this woman could be from another realm?" he questioned. "I would start on Midgard that is where your father met Hiemdall's mother." Frigg said. "That was centuries ago!" Loki exclaimed. His mother laughed at his remark. "Loki, you are acting like Midgard is out of women." He chuckled a bit. "Alright. I'll go." He replied, and used magic to change into his black suit, he made his way to the Bifröst, knowing that he wouldn't have to tell the Gate Keeper, where he wanted to go and why he needed to go to Midgard. Because Heimdall heard everything that Loki and Frigg were talking about.

"Where in Midgard do you wish to go?" Heimdall asked when the prince reached the end of Bifröst. Loki shook his head; he had no idea where to start looking for his dream woman. "I do know of a woman who fits the description of the woman from your dreams, who just moved to Norway with her best friend and-" "Then send me to Norway!" Loki ordered. Heimdall nodded and opened the Bifröst.

Loki landed in Norway. He quickly realized how different it was from his first visit centuries ago. He walked through the town; all the roads seemed to be made of black rock. At first, he mistook the roads as black rivers, it was very early, so it was still dark out and the roads were wet from the rain. There were also a lot more buildings than he remembered. Even though it was strange to him, he still liked it here and he wanted to rule it. He pushed his thoughts aside, because first he needed to find the woman from his dream: then he could rule the mortals. He looked everywhere in this town but couldn't find who he was looking for. He started thinking that Heimdall tricked him or just wanted to send him away. Just when Loki was about to call for Heimdall, a young woman walked into him. She had light brown hair and green eyes. She was also wearing glasses. "Oh, I'm sorry! I wasn't looking where I was going." She said "Det burde du ha vært! (Well you should have been!)" Loki shouted. The woman blinked in confusion. "Har du noen anelse Om hvem jeg er, mortal? (Do you have any idea who I am, mortal?)" He asked, getting annoyed with this woman, even though she looked just like the woman he had been searching for. "Forstår du meg? (Do you understand me?)" He asked. "Sorry, but I can't understand you." The woman said, hoping he would understand her. Loki laughed a bit, that confused the woman even more. "I just asked if you could understand me." He replied in English. "Oh, sorry, I only speak English, for now at least. Uh, how about we start over?" She said holding her hand out for him, "Hello, I'm Assi Kapral, nice to meet you." Loki was not used to people wanting to shake hands with him. He had a feeling that she didn't know he is a prince. "Loki." He said shaking her hand. "Loki? Like the Norse god who gave birth to Sleipnir?" Assi asked.

Loki blinked: "This mortal woman knows of Sleipnir?" He said to himself, "Yes, like the Norse god but I'm not too sure about that horse story." Loki replied. They let go of each other's hands. "Hey, I know we just met, but I was meeting some friends for breakfast, would you like to join us?" Assi asked. Loki laughed again, "You're inviting someone you don't know to go get breakfast with you and your friends?" he asked smiling at her. "Yes." She said. Loki nodded and followed her to a café by the name 'Amsterdam.'

"Assi!" her best friend Scarlett Zleman called out when Assi and Loki walked inside the café. Scarlett was sitting at a table with her boyfriend Austin Tillert and Assi's good friend James Nairn. Assi smiled as she walked over to the table where her friends were sitting. James stood up and hugged her, then he noticed Loki standing behind her. James let go of her. "Who are you?" he asked. "I am Loki." He said. James glared at Loki as he pulled Assi closer to him. "What are you doing here?" James asked. Loki smiled at Assi. "I invited him." she said assuring her friend. Her friends looked at her. "Why?" they asked confused that Assi would invite someone that none of them knew to join them. "It was the least I could do after walking into him." she replied to them.

James gave Loki an angry look when he went up to the counter with Assi. Loki ordered his food/drink and Assi's food/drink in Norwegian. The female cashier also spoke to Loki in Norwegian. "Jeg beklager at jeg ikke har noen penger (I am sorry I don't have any money)." Loki said "Ikke bekymre deg for det, det er gratis. Kjekk (Don't worry about it, it's free. Handsome)." She said winking at him. Then she turned to Assi. "That'll be 20 dollars." Assi handed the woman the money. "You didn't have to order my food and coffee for me." Assi said, once they got the orders and were walking back over to the table where her friends were. Loki just smiled. Assi thought that he has a beautiful smile, she loved it even though this was only the second time she had seen his beautiful smile. She just couldn't help herself from loving it. Loki wanted Assi to like him. They sat next to each other at the table. As they ate, James noticed that Loki was staring at his friend. "Oh, I'm Scarlett Zleman by the way and this is my boyfriend Austin Tillert." She introduced herself. Her hair was a red-ish brown, and her eyes were green. She also wore glasses. "Nice to meet you, Loki." Austin said. His hair was brown as well and so were his eyes. "Yes, it is." Loki said nodding at the two of them, then looking to James. Who had blue eyes and brown hair. "And you are?" he asked in a not so friendly tone. "James." He replied, "Nice to meet you." Loki said with a little bit of spite in his voice. Assi could tell that James was jealous. "Are you jealous Jim?" she asked, James slammed his cup of coffee on the table. "Of course not! Why would I be?" he exclaimed, truthfully, he was a little jealous, although he had no reason to be.

Loki spent the rest of the day with Assi and her friends. They all went for a walk by a clear lake, which was surrounded by mountains and some trees. James kept walking very close to Assi, as if he wanted Loki to know that Assi belong to him. It reminded Loki of the way Fandral acted when he wanted to rub in the fact that he had a woman and Loki didn't. Even though Fandral seemed to move from woman to woman very quickly, he would tell Loki that he was looking for the right woman. Loki rolled his eyes, like the same way he would when he saw Fandral hitting on every woman in Asgard. Loki found it very annoying. And he hated that Assi wasn't paying any attention to him. But he couldn't think of something that make her notice him. "Magic!" He thought to himself. But he couldn't let her see him using magic. He walked over to the water. Assi walked up to him and stood next to him. "Did you know that this lake has a name?" Loki asked, keeping his eyes on the lake. "No, what is it?" She asked. He smiled a bit. "Øvre Sjodalsvatnet." Loki said while breathing in the clean air of Norway. "I came here first with my father and one of his friends," continued Loki, thinking that it would not be a good idea to tell her that his father is Odin or that his friend was Hoenir, The Long-legged God.

"What does the name mean?" "You know, I don't remember." Loki replied chuckling. He turned to face her and looked down at her. "It was years ago…when I came here. Things are a lot different, from my last visit." he said. Assi looked up at the 6'4 man. "So uhhh... do you think that maybe you could teach me some Norwegian?" Assi asked. A big smile appeared on Loki's face, "Of course. I can come back tomorrow if you'd like." He suggested eagerly, knowing that could be a little creepy. "Sounds good, we can meet at Amsterdam again. Say noon?" she asked. Loki agreed.

"I should return home. It was wonderful to meet you." he said taking her hand and kissed it. Assi's face became beat-red. "Y-yes it was." She said. Loki let go of her hand. "Until tomorrow." He said then walked away. But not before making a rose appear behind her ear. "Oh, I feel like Fandral." Loki said to himself as he walked past James, glaring at him. James walked up to Assi, there was a hint of envy in his eyes.

"What were you two talking about?" he asked. Assi looked at him. "He's going to teach me Norwegian." She said. "If he's only teaching you Norwegian, then why did he give you this?" James asked, taking the rose from behind Assi's ear. "Maybe he likes me." She said. Also confused about where the rose came from. She saw Loki's hand go up to her ear, but the rose was not in his hand, she would ask him about it tomorrow. James gripped the pedals of the rose tightly in his hand. "Do you like him?" he asked. "What? No, I mean Loki is a nice guy. But I don't have feelings for him, and we only met today." Assi said "Are you sure?" he asked still with disbelief in his voice. "Yes, I'm sure, so stop worrying." She replied. James smiled; he normally wasn't the jealous type, but there was something about Loki that just rubbed James the wrong way. He could just be overreacting, but he didn't think so.

Loki returned to Asgard and was greeted at the gate by Thor and Fandral. Thor threw his arm around his youngest brother as he led him down the Bifröst. "Tell us all about her, brother!" Thor said. "Yes. I want to hear all about this beautiful maiden, who has caught my dear friend's fancy." Fandral teased his friend. Loki wasn't really in the mood to talk about Assi, but he knew that Thor and Fandral wouldn't shut up about her until he gave them some details about the woman. "Well, her name is Assi. . . She has beautiful green eyes with a little bit a yellow in them, her hair is light brown and oddly the tips are a purple blue color." Loki sighed when he remembered how beautiful Assi was. "Is she pretty?" Fandral asked smiling. "Gorgeous!" "Freyja gorgeous?" Thor asked. Loki glared at him. "I would say Sif gorgeous." he replied. "Oh, that pretty? Hmmm?" Fandral asked. "Hey!" Thor said. Loki nodded. He never thought that Freyja was that pretty. But Loki wouldn't say that she isn't ugly just not pretty. "Are you going to see your gorgeous maiden again?" Thor asked. Loki nodded. "I'm meeting her at a café tomorrow, to teach her Norwegian." He wanted tomorrow to come quicker. Thor and Fandral laughed. "Oh Brother, you got it bad. Wouldn't you agree Fandral?" Thor asked moving his arm. Fandral laughed as he nodded. "What do you mean?" Loki questioned. "You're madly in love." Fandral said. Loki pushed away from Thor. "Am not! And what do you know about love? You move from to maiden to maiden, like Volstagg moves from meal to meal." he said crossing his arms and sounding like a little boy who was denying his crush to her face. Thor and Fandral chuckled a bit. "Whatever you say Brother." Thor said walking ahead of Loki.

"You have a point Sire, but I told you I haven't found the right one yet, and you know as well as I that I was in love once." Fandral said putting his arm around the raven haired prince. "Right . . . I am sorry, my friend." Loki said changing his clothes back to his normal Asgardian clothes before following his brother to the city with Fandral's arm still around him. As they walked to the palace, fear ran through Loki's body. He wasn't sure if he was afraid of what his father would do, if he knew that his youngest son was falling for a mortal. Or maybe Loki was afraid of seeing her again . . . no he knew what he was afraid of: it was James, even though James was a mortal and had no magic abilities. He still threatened Loki. "Are you alright Sire?" Fandral asked picking up on Loki's nervousness. "Yes of course." Loki said, though he was still afraid. But he wouldn't let his fears keep him from Assi. Besides what could a mortal do to a magically being?
