So I've been busy putting this together. Originally it was a totally different story but then I had more ideas and roll on lockdown and bam. I put it together by rewatching the series... for the hundredth time. Hehe. Hope you are all safe and well! I will be mainly following the tv show but my own ideas will be slotted in (especially when the series ends, I have a few ideas and new stuff to bring in), but I will also be changing a few things since I didn't agree with them. Here it is!

Disclaimer I don't own the Walking Dead only my ocs

I giggle running away from Mrs Consin.

"Calissa! Get back here!" I hear her shout and run around a corner, bumping into someone.

"Ow!" I look up to see a boy, rubbing his head.

"I'm sorry! I'm running from Miss Consin." I place a finger to my lips to keep him quiet before I bursting out laughing.

His eyes widen. "Oh! What did you do?" He whispers.

"I drew with a marker on her desk." I reveal and he laughs.

"That's so cool!" He shouts but clamps his hands over his mouth before whispering, "sorry." He looks around quickly before he smiles at me. "I'm Jeremy."

"Callie." I smile before I notice his smile fall and hear footsteps behind me. Oh no. I look up to see Mrs Consin.

"Calissa." Mrs Consin looks down at me, shaking her head. I give her a small smile.

"When do you think we'll get a home?" I look to Jeremy, curiously.

He shrugs. "I don't know. Only when our time comes. It'll happen eventually."

I sigh and look back up to the stars. Trying to see a pattern of anything. "Maybe I'll meet my family someday." I could feel his eyes on me

"Maybe. They're out there... somewhere. But right now, I'm here." He offers.

"I know."

"Hey! What's up losers?" I jump and look to the window where a girl is sitting and I raise my brows at her.

"Losers?" I question her, leaning on my elbow to get a better view of her. The girl has short jet black hair and brown eyes from what I could tell in the dark.

"I'm kidding!" She puts her hands up in mock surrender. "I'm Violet." She holds out her hand.

I smile and take it. "Callie."

Jeremy does the same thing. "Jeremy."

"Nice to meet you guys. What are you two doing out here?" She asks us, raising her brow.

"We like to hang out here. It's quieter here than the dorms. Plus Mrs Consin is asleep and we don't want to risk waking her up." Jeremy jokes but we all know by now she gets angry if we wake her up, especially at this time.

"Ah. So she's basically a devil?" Violet jokes and I grin at her.

"Yeah." And we all laugh. All in agreement about that. Mrs Consin is definitely something else entirely.

She lays down with us and I glance back up to the stars. Just because I don't know my real family, but that doesn't mean I can't make my own.

"Callie, wake up!" Violet pounces on me and I startle awake, toppling both myself and Violet off the bed.

"I'm awake!" I shout and gave my best friend a withering look for waking me up. What's wrong with her?

Violet shrugs innocently, clearly not bothered. "I heard Mrs Consin on the phone, and she said some people can come today! Which means one of us is getting adopted!" Violet squeals and my eyes shine.

"Yes! Maybe they will decide to take two kids instead of one." I suggest and Violet squeals even louder, causing a few kids to look at us a bit bewildered.

"Can you both shut up?" A girl hisses at us and I narrow my eyes at her.

"You shut up." I retort and the girl just rolls her eyes in reply before turning back around to her friends.

The door opens and Mrs Consin walks through in a fancy suit. "Ladies, there are people coming down from Washington DC to adopt one of you today. Can you all get dressed, please?" Then she walks out. The other girls all glance to each other and start talking amongst themselves. Most likely about who's most likely to get adopted, one of their favourite things to do when this happens.

My eyes widen and she whips around to Violet. "From DC?" And she nods maniacally.

After getting dressed, we all gather downstairs in the main room when the door opens and three people come inside. Mrs Consin and the people who are going to adopt today. They don't even speak to any of us, just look at each of our faces before nodding and going to the office.

"That's it?" Violet complains, raising her hands in the air.

"Maybe they knew who they were gonna adopt before coming here." I suggest to her and she sighs before sitting down.

We all eventually went back upstairs as they were taking a long time. Some are coloring, listening to music or talking with each other. But I can't do anything, this could be her chance of getting adopted, she thought. Having a home. A real home and a real family. Not like the ones who abandoned me

The door opens and Mrs Consin walks in and looks to me and Violet before walking over to us.

"Hey, Callie, can I talk to Violet alone please?" She asks and I nod my head and walk away but stay by the door. I watch as a huge smile appear on Violet's face before she nods frantically. Mrs Consin leaves the room and Violet just sits there with a dazed look on her face.

I run up to her and excitedly. "What was that about?" I ask but I knew the reason why. She got picked.

"I've just been adopted." She breathes out and I smile at her. "But they want to leave as soon as possible."

My smile falls. "Seriously?" She nods her head. "I guess I should help you pack then." I tell her and she smiles sadly at me.

I couldn't really be upset about it, she's finally getting a home. A real home. This stuff happens. You meet new kids, some get picked, some don't. The ones that do get to have a happy life while the rest... they get left behind.

We pack her things, which is very little and walk down to the entry way where her adopted parents are sitting and Mrs Consin is talking to them. They stop talking and look at Violet, all of them smiling. Jeremy is there as well, I guess Mrs Consin told him but he's not happy.

I turn to Violet. "I guess this is goodbye then." She nods her head and I see her eyes water. She grabs me and pulls me into a hug.

"It was nice to be best friends with you. When you get a home, maybe I can see you someday." Violet suggests and I nod.

"Of course I'll be there." I agree and she smiles at me before looking to Jeremy.

"Same goes for you?" She asks and he breaks out into a sad smile before nodding his head. They hug as well before parting. "Goodbye."

We watch as they pack the car and drive off, both of us waving goodbye at the car, and Mrs Consin's hands land on each of our shoulders. One day we'll see each other again. One day

"Hey." I appear next to Jeremy and he jumps out of his seat.

"Jesus fucking Christ!" He yelps and glares at me. "Callie!" He hisses. He hides something in his jacket. Which is something I took notice.

"What have you got there?" I ask, raising my brows at him.

He sighs and pulls it out and I look back at him.

"Really? Cigarettes?"

He hushes me "Keep it down will you?" Then a small smirk appears on his face, like he's proud of himself for having cigarettes. "I thought I'd try them. Louis gave them to me."

I smirk at him, "why don't we try them together?" I suggest and he shakes his head at me.

"You're 14." He points out.

I roll my eyes at him. "And you're 15 if we're pointing out each other's ages. Please Jer!"

He sighs. "Fine." I smirk at him. "Don't smirk at me." I huff and roll my eyes at him. He glances around before smiling at me. "Come on." We head to the roof top and he takes out his lighter. He lights only one and hands it to me. "Ladies first."

I roll my eyes again and take it off him, and take a small drag before I break out in a coughing fit. I hand it back to him. "That's fucking disgusting."

He laughs before taking a small drag himself and ending up doing the exact same thing. "Agreed. I'm gonna give these back to Louis. I thought they'd be good!" He moans.

I chuckle at him "Yeah, please do that." He laughs, clearly agreeing before stomping it out. "Let's never do that again." I hold out my pinky finger.

"Never again." He agrees and grabs it with his own pinky.

I pack the last of my belongings, closing my case and look around the room. My home. It's been my home since I was born. I've never knew my real family but today is the day I find out. I get their details and have the chance to call them. I will call them. I want to know why. I want to know the reason why they left me here.

I shake my head to pull me out of my own head and leave the room, heading to Mrs Consin's office. I rap my hand on the door.

"Come in." I open the door and she looks up and smiles at me.

"Calissa." She greets and I grimace at my full name. No matter how many times I told her to call me Callie, she never listened. "Please sit." I do as she says and look around the office as she goes through the drawers of all of our information. I notice something and see my doodle on her desk and smirk. "Aha! Found it." She cheers and I look back at her and see a file with my name.

"That's mine?" I had to ask even though I know it's mine. It's something that I dreamt about. Knowing who my family was. Knowing who I am.

She smiles knowingly and hands me the file. "Of course." I take it but stare at it. "You don't have to open it now." She eases me and I smile gratefully at her.

"I never once said thank you." I realise looking at her now. She's older. Her hair starting to grey. It's like I finally noticed how running an orphanage is like. Stressful. Looking after all these kids who are practically no one until they're someone.

She cocks her head to the side. "For what?"

"For raising me. For... for dealing with me. With my shi-stuff." I correct when I see her look.

"It's my job." She brushes off and I nod. Knowing Mrs Consin, she doesn't like to get emotional in front of us. I don't know the reason why. But it's who she is. Who she's always been. Strong. Not showing her emotions to people. Maybe... maybe I should be like that?

I pack the last of my stuff in Jeremy's van. Since we're living in a very good orphanage, they give money to anyone that's leaving. To give them a head start. And well Jeremy is doing well for himself and bought himself a van. We both get in and wave goodbye to the woman that raised us and drove away, my hands gripping my bag tightly. The one with my file inside. I pull out my phone and open the file and type in the number.

"Hello?"

I go to speak but instead I press the end button. I can't.

13 days before

I look out of the window of the motel that we're staying in and see how eerily quiet it is. Usually when we stay in motels it creeps me out, it feels like I'm in a horror movie.

The door opens and look to see Jeremy walk out of the bathroom, towel scrubbing his wet hair.

I turn on the radio and flop on my bed.

"Currently there has been news on a new virus spreading and infecting people, making them highly dangerous. Please do not encounter any of the sick and contact your local authority. Currently the whole state of California is on lock down and we lost contact. Please avoid any travel to California and to reschedule flights immediately."

I share a look with Jeremy. This virus is a lot worse than we thought.

Present time

I drop my head against the chair and huff. My ass is aching from sitting down for so long.

"You alright?" Jeremy asks me, glancing at me before returning his focus on the roads

"We should stop soon." I suggest and he rolls his eyes at me.

"Soon." He responds vaguely. Which means it's a no. I turn on the radio.

"This is the emergency broadcast channel. If you're listening to this, please pack everything you need and head to the nearest refugee centers. Please listen to the following; Atlanta, Washington DC, New York, Indianapolis, Chicago and Tallahassee. Please remain calm, help is on the way."

I share a worried look with Jeremy. "I guess we're stopping soon."

"Yeah. We won't take the highway, go on the back roads. They'll be blocked up with traffic." He says and I nod in agreement. That's the best plan.

By the time we get to Atlanta, it was morning and we saw the smoke coming from the city. A lot of smoke. Too much. Something big happened here.

"They bombed the city." Jeremy realises and my jaw drops.

"What?" I look closer and notice the signs. Oh my god. They bombed Atlanta. "But.. but all the refugee centers across the country-" I stop talking, realising that they probably don't even exist now. All of them are gone. Maybe the virus got inside the camp and they had to do it?

"There's a Quarry not far from here. We could go there until this all blows over?" He suggests turning to me and I look at him.

"This isn't going to just blow over any time soon. It's gonna stay this way." I point out to him. "No one in that city will be alive. They'll be dead. Or they'll soon be dead."

Jeremy narrows his eyes at me. "You can't be so negative all the time. This will blow over. Yeah maybe Atlanta is gone but maybe it will get better after that. Maybe they just needed to contain it." He murmurs at the end.

I scoff. "You don't even believe it yourself."

"No. But we still need to have hope." Jeremy reminds me and I nod.

"Fine. Come on. We need to go."

We hop back in the van and drive to the Quarry in silence. Whoever bombed Atlanta, they killed thousands of people, probably more.

I looked up as we pulled to a stop and see other cars there and quite a few people looking at us. We get out of the car and a guy with a shot gun approaches us.

"Uhh... hi."

That's it for chapter 1! I hope you enjoyed it! This is the one story I've been planning for a while. But this is only the introduction chapter for Callie. There will be more. So the actual story which will follow the show won't kickstart for a bit but bare with me it will be soon! I won't drag this out
