This is a story I have thought of writing for some time. It is a difficult story, because this is a story of a character in the show, we know very little about. All we know, is that she was a mother to be, at the same time as many other expectant mothers of the players on the Snow Kids team to be 16 years later. And she lost her life in a cold cave, handing her newborn son over to Maia, to raise, not knowing what had happened to her husband, whom was to become the most wanted man in the galaxy. My story will be different. I am coming from the perspective that she survived giving birth, raised her son, and how this could affect the story. So here is my story about Sonnys wife, given the name Helena.
Maia had rocked little baby D'Jok when he started crying. His mother, Helena, had been brought to the tent of the rescue workers that had found them inside the mountain caves. As soon as a transport from Technoid could get there, they would be taken to hospital. She was a technoid employee, and that made her medical insurance covered by the company. She had lost so much blood during her birth, she was on the very verge of survival. It was like the little babyson, with his oh so powerful lungs, somehow gave her the strength to fight for her life. The bond between mother and child was most certainly a strong one. Maia didn't know why she did what she did, but she sat down, beside the bed, and let the baby take Helenas pale hand. A hand that felt a bit cold.
But as he started crying, she could notice how Helena fought to open her eyes, to comfort her crying son, but found herself too weak. Soon after, a belt truck had reached them, they were taken out,and brought to a hospital that was safe, and where she received proper medical care. But Helena reamined in a comatose state.
This went on for days, even weeks. It was not certain she would ever come out of this stage, till the 4th week after birth. D'Jok was one month old.
When he started crying, Maia did as she always did, lifted him from the crib, when she heard a sound. It sounded like a moan. She was glad she had a good grip when she turned and saw Helenas eyes open.
"D'Jok.." her voice was faint, close to a whisper.
Maia smiled as she carefully handed the baby over to his mother. Helena looked at her little baby son. A perfect mix of herself and his father. I'Son would have loved this. At the same moment, it all came back to her. The ship lifting of the top of the roof after the crash, I'Son being left behind. That was her last memories of him, her sons father. Seeing their son, it became the factor that made the strength she had left come crashing down. Maia set down and pulled her close as Helena cried silent tears from the joy over having her son, and over the loss of her beloved husband and her sons father.
Life on Akillian was not easy after the glaciation. The summer they all enjoyed was gone, replaced by an increasingly cold winter. The degrees that kept dropping lower than ever before, and the green oasis Akillian had once been, became covered under snow and ice. To find work wasn't easy either. The explosion had killed many and left the planet in a state of emergency. Helena took a long time to recover after her birth. Finally, Maia could not support them all on her income, so Helena had to find a job outside the home the two women shared. Before the catastrophe, Helena had been employed by Technoid. as a special nurse. Helena tried to shake the memories when she came to see them after months away. To get an appointment with Duke Maddox in the aftermath of what had happened, was not easy. He had a lot to deal with. Helena carried a secret hope that maybe Duke Maddox knew what had happened to I'Son. The galaciation of the planet, she knew it could very well be a side effect of whatever this metaflux they had created, and whom her husband tried to get rid of,exploding on Akillian. She didn't know much about it, only that it could lead to a new onset of war if General Bleylock got his hands on it. It had I'Son very concerned, and he suspected that Bleylock was watching him and Labnor in the lab. She knew how he felt about that, especially with the past he had with the general. If I'Son had caused the glaciation, then maybe they had caught him. He could be imprisoned, for all she knew. She needed a job, and also answers. That was why she was there,at Technoids Akillian plant, to talk to Duke Maddox, and perhaps get her job back.
Helena thought of how her life was now, a year after the glaciation. She had pictured herself and I'Son celebrating their sons first birthday. Instead, it was her and Maia doing it. I'Son, if he was still alive, was either imprisoned, or something kept him from being with them. She had to provide, for herself and her son, she could not depend on others to care for her.
With that thought in mind, Helena straightened herself, and prepared for her interview.
She had been lucky. Duke Maddox had rehired her as a special nurse. But he looked worried. A year on now, and Technoid was still conducting investigations in the areas where something that looked like a bomb of sorts had gone off. But Helena knew what had happened, to some extent. And it seemed, so did Duke Maddox. And the one to be blamed, had still not been accounted for. She still remembered the remorseful expression on his face when she finally made herself ask the question that would either rip her heart in two or give some kind of idea as to what had happened to him.
"I wish I had answers to offer Helena, but sadly, I don't.I'Son is still on the list of missing persons that we are looking for. Bleylock says he was near the place of the explosion, and we have searched the area. No body, and no I'Son. Either Bleylock is lying to my face, wich I wouldnt put past him, or I'Son didn't make it. It saddens me personally, he was by far the best scientist we ever had. Made professor in just four years, a study that normally takes eight years. He really could have gone places. All I can do, is to compensate you and your son for the loss" Duke Maddox offered.
Helena concealed her tears.
"It was a far fetched hope Your Excellency. If he was alive, I am sure he would have made his way back to us by now. As painful as it is, it seems D'Jok will have to grow up without his father" she managed, before tears overpowered her.
She felt Duke Maddox pull her close.
"I feel you Helena. I too would much rather have him here. I cant make any promises, but we will continue to search. If his remains are recovered, we will let you know, so you can lay him to rest" he promised.
Helena looked at him with teary eyes.
"Can I ask you, Your Excellency, to please check your prisons? I don't trust General Bleylock. I know he and I'Son have a past that isnt all rosy red. If Bleylock knows anything about I'Sons whereabouts or his fate, please make him talk. I need closure if I am to be able to move on from this" she said.
Duke Maddox nodded.
"Leave it to me Helena,I will make sure you get some answers. Until I can get them, please, come in for work tomorrow, we desperately need nurses, of all kinds, to help the people of Akillian to recover".
D'Jok was sound asleep when Helena came home after her shift. Maia and Helena shared a house, to care for her son as best as they could. Helena still saw Maia as her saviour, without her, D'Jok would possibly be orphaned by now. Maia had sat down for once, to watch holo tv. It was a feisty debate going on, where Aarch, the star player or the Akillian team, was heavily critizised for leaving Akillian in dire straits, alongside Artegor Nexus, to go play for The shadows, the team representing the planet obscuriantis. At this time, Akillian needed all their stars here to rebuild, and here, two of the biggest, were leaving them. One of the critics was Norata, Aarchs brother. Maia had kept the sound low, and only looked half interested anyway. Helena placed a few grocery bags on the kitchen counter.
"Anything interesting on Holo tv tonight Maia? Anything to take my mind of this stressful day" Helena said as she took of her coat and boots.
Maia smiled at her.
"You look tired Helena, you are running yourself ragged. It hasn't been that long since you started working again. You know, Akillian wasn't rebuilt in a day. Try to not do all at once" Maia said, looking at the other woman.
Helena grabbed an apple and sat down on the sofa.
"Now that I got my job back, all that has happened the last year, starts to hit me Maia. Its like I have been frozen, not even thinking of the possibility that he may not have made it.." she said.
Maia nodded. She knew what Helena talked about. So far, she had not told her of the visions she herself had been having about the matter. She had seen I'Son in her visions. She could not tell what had happened, something blocked her from seeing that clearly. But she had the distinct feeling from what she had seen, with I'Son turning his back on his old life, and walk into a mist, that this was not a concluded matter. He was still there,in their galaxy somewhere, but Maia knew what the mist meant. He was going through a transformation. On multiple layers of his personality. Should she tell Helena all this? Could Helena handle hearing this, that her beloved was not the same man any more? Maia decided to wait, see if she got more concrete visions to guide her before she said anything else. For now, Helena needed be shielded, till she was strong enough to hear the truth.
Shiloh, near shiloh nebula.
An unidentified ship was moving in the shadows of larger asteroids. They had just returned from a larger raid, on a Technoid convoy. On board was a group of rebels, whom held a grudge against the technological giant. Many had worked for the company, or lost friends or family at their hands. Some had managed to escape, but seemingly none was unharmed. The ship was headed towards the base. To escort it, came three smaller ships, wich guided the ship to her harbour.
Once the ship had docked, the pirates on board started to diseambark. At the end, came a large, masked man, the pirates leader, out of the ship. He was met by a younger pirate.
"Has all been taken care off? The new recruits are adjusting to Corsos trainings well?" he asked.
The pirate saluted and made his report.
The pirate leader, Magnus Blade, nodded slowly.
"And how are things with Sonny Blackbones? He need some corrective surgery to his eyes and also some light adjustments to his face. I take it he is fit for duty? That man has knowledge we need. I want him to develop his skills as far as he can go. Maybe someday, he will make leader" Magnus mused. The other pirate nodded, knowing that the mentioned pirate held a high star with had not been there long, but they all knew who he was. A third man, with a cybernetic component replacing his eye, joined them to report.
"He is ready to go Magnus. He has already worked out with me today. He is ready to take on Technoid in the next raid. If I were them, I would be worried. He is packing some serious rage towards them" the pirate named Corso said.
Magnus nodded.
"Any idea about his story? We know he has knowledge of Technoids inner workings, and that he wore their labcoat when we took him in, but other than that, he is a complete enigma. He has been silent about his past, and his reasons for joining us. At some point, he will have to speak" Magnus said.
Corso nodded.
"Not yet Magnus, Sonny is very private,I don't want to push him too hard, that rage of his is better aimed at Technoid than at us. He has knowledge that is helpful to us,lets give him some space. As soon as he is ready to share, I feel confident he will tell us just who he really is" Corso suggested.
Magnus agreed.
"Tell him to get cleaned up after training, and come see me. I want to talk to him about something" he ordered.
Corso saluted, and went to find said pirate.
Helena looked at the many stretchers that had been brought in from the recently cleaned area. These people lived in the old city of Arcadia, where the blastwave hit the hardest. If I'Son was still alive, this was where he was most likely to have gone. And it could also be where his life had come to an end. She was in her gear, ready to deal with the causualties. Many of them were found too late and were gone. Since she didn't know from what end Technoid was entering the city, she could not tell wheter I'Son would soon be found. All medical personnel had to do their share. She didn't tell Maia what she hoped for. She intuitively felt the other woman, whom had become like a sister to her in this last year, either knew, or suspected something and would possibly be the one to speak the words that would break her heart, letting her know all hope was lost.
Well, that wasn't the case just yet was it?
Duke Maddox still systematically searched all prisons. They had found Labnor locked up in a dark and hidden prison cell. He either had a genuine form of amnesia or had his memory wiped clean, as he was unable to tell them anything about his partner, and what he had been up to. Technoid was forced to let him go, as he was no longer of any use to them. This news made Helena hopeful that this could also happen for I'Son. But so far, there was no sign that he was captured and held. Or maybe Bleylock knew more. For some reason, she did not like seeing her husbands old operative snooping around her. It was if he was waiting for something, and frankly, he gave her the creeps. But luckily, it didn't take long, before he stopped. She had not seen him in a few months now, and good riddance!
She had attracted suitors too, being a very beautiful woman, but in her heart, Helena still felt married, and made herself emotionally unavailable to these men. The only thing that could change how she felt, was news that confirmed I'Son to be dead. And so far, that had not happened.
Today, she had been called to Duke Maddox office, since he had a small infection in his cybernetic eye, and needed medical attention. At least, Technoid had come through for those in need after the catastrophe.
Many had injuries to their eyes, and had to have replacement components. Technoid massproduced cybernetic components to help this, but sometimes, things like this happened.
She had reached the office now, with her cart. As she buzzed, she was let in.
Duke Maddox sat at his impressive desk, but he wasn't alone. General Bleylock stood with him, watching a video from security cameras from what appeared to be a pirate raid. Helena had heard about this theft in the news. Technoids latest planned base was put on hold as a result of this theft. It seemed this was components that was easy to resell or the pirates were constructing a base of operations of their own. You really could not tell with them, as their actions was very unpredictable.
Duke Maddox looked cross as he looked at the footage.
"How bad is this loss Bleylock? Just how many months is this going to put progress behind schedule?" he snarled.
"They took the entire shipment Your Highness, we are at least six months behind schedule at this point, unless we can manage to track them down and take the cargo back" Bleylock pointed out.
Duke Maddox was not happy hearing this.
"We have tried locating Magnus Blade before. The pirates have specialized in espionage and computer hacking. Id like to know how they can seem to know so much about our operations, without leaving a trace to their whereabouts" Duke Maddox growled.
"I wouldnt know Your Highness. It may be that they have gotten some new recruits on board, someone that would know these things.." he tried carefully.
"Impossible! All of our employees, those that made it, are accounted for" Duke Maddox roared.
Bleylock looked like he was about to respond, when he noticed Helena.
"Your Highness, I do believe it is time for your medical treatment. I will do some more research and get back to you as soon as I know something" he said and bowed as he withdrew.
Helena didn't pay too much attention to him, she was here to tend to the Duke, not this weasel.
Duke Maddox sighed as she cleansed out the infected area with great care.
"Thank you Helena. The pressure is unbearable at best. Now, I should be able to get some work done" he commented with a smile.
"Your Excellency, what you really should do, is rest. Let Bleylock deal with this matter, he seems to be on top of things" she suggested mildly.
Duke Maddox nodded.
"He is. He brought me the footage of the pirates that attacked the convoy and stole the cargo. Magnus Blade had a few new faces with him this time, now we need to identify these men, where they came from and what names they go under now. Pirates do change their appearance sometimes, but always their names" he said.
Helena managed a genuine smile. A rarity these days.
She looked at the screen, where the footage played on a loop. The pirates looked furious where they stormed towards the defenceless droids that guarded the shipment. The droids were defenceless against their weapons.
Duke Maddox paid particular attention to four new faces. With the on and off raids the pirates made against Technoid, they had a good idea of the faces, as the pirates had stayed a small group for the longest time. Now, it seemed a few new faces had been added. Young men, carrying goggles and facecoverings to avoid being recognized. The Duke had a long and winding task ahead of him if he was to identify them. Then, one face caught her attention. A man not caring to cover up his face at all, with fury raging in what appeared to be hazel eyes, swinging his sword with destructive force towards the droids that tried to stop him. There was a rage in him,and it seemed he channelled it at the droids. His sword sliced through them like it was butter. He didn't stop until the pirate leader, Magnus Blade, placed a hand on his shoulder.
This scared Helena a bit. To pack such rage, unable to stop by yourself.
That was when she eyed him closer. That was like a punch in the gut.
From what she could tell, he looked like I'Son, at least physically. But I'Son was never this angry, he was mild mannered, calm.
This man, he was so furious he could not even control himself. Not at all how I'Son would be.
Duke Maddox seemed to have eyed her reaction.
"I know what you are thinking. He has physical resemblance to a point, but it cant be him Helena. He never acted like this. This man, whoever he is, is an explosion waiting to happen. Most surely, very dangerous.I want to bring him in, he seems to know things, but first,I need to identify him. Pirates usually discard their past when they join. It will be one hell of a job to find out,but once we have him identified, I will put up a sum for his capture. We don't need people like him running loose" he said.
Helena nodded, carried out the work she was there to do, and finished her shift, to head home and spend the evening with her son and Maia.
Bleylock was going through the footage in his office. It still bit him that they had not found a trace of I'Son anywhere, dead or alive. His men had made sure to get rid of any evidence he had left behind, like the crashed flying pod, or a body. He still had footage showing I'Son got out of the pod in time to make a run for it. From the look of things, there was every chance he was still alive out there somewhere. All he had to do, was find him. And that was easier said than done. I'Son had made a complete disappearing act, with no clues as to his current whereabouts, until now it seemed.
Bleylock studied the footage from the raid. The man in red and black..there was something about him that drew his attention. Bleylock froze the image and zoomed in. There was minor changes, altered beard growth, and hazel eyes. Off course, his icy blue eyes would have given him away. The pirates werent stupid, that was one of the first things they would seek to change. Maybe.. Bleylock found an old picture of I'Son, much the same angle as this man with fury in his eyes, and made an overlay. It fit. Now he knew where I'Son had gone off to. He had no idea his wife and son were alive, from the look of things. Maybe that was an angle to work, to get hold of him. But first, he needed to find I'Sons new name. Bleylock had a spy within the pirates ranks, just to keep an eye on things. I'Son would not use his old name in that shark tank. The pirates lived rough, not the kind of life I'Son was used to. But then again, if he was to pull the disappearing act, the pirates was the best help he could get. Further more, I'Son had made it out before his memory could be erased. Him joining forces with the pirates, with a memory that had not been deleted, explained how they could target them like they did. I'Son, in his fury, prossibly thinking his wife and infant son dead, he was set on revenge for their deaths.
And he blamed Technoid for the loss, that much was obvious.
Bleylock knew, speaking to him would be a difficult undertaking, especially as things were now. But first of all, he had to find the name he went under.
A quick message was sent out. Bleylock only had to wait for about thirty minutes before he got a reply.
He looked at the name he had written on a piece of paper. How fitting it was. Perfect for this very angry pirate, with vengance in his eyes.
"You can run all you want, but I will find you. I got your new name now, and I will find out where you are hiding. I cant wait to meet you face to face..Sonny Blackbones"..
This is the start of a story that never happened but could have been the case. There will be elements of the original story here and there. It will be this form, since I am struggling to make a separate story for Helena. I simply don't know enough about her. So I will attempt to create small bits, and see how it fits. Bare with me, as this story may take some time. I do hope you will like it though.
