She rolled over aware of the position of her family, feeling her husband beside her she snuggled into him, then moved his hand from by their stomachs to onto his chest so it wouldn't be blocking their closeness. His hand was heavy, it didn't bother her as his hand was always heavy, he did have metal on his bones after all. What bothered her was that the pressure areas where she'd put her fingers didn't react like they should've. They should've went back to normal like anyone's would, but they didn't, they were indented, like someone was still pressing on his skin.

She lifted her head to look at him, she couldn't see very well through the darkness like he could, so she let electricity flow off her fingers into the air above her lighting up the room slightly. She could see his face, it was near hers, suddenly her heart stopped in her chest. His face didn't have it's usual color, and his lips… they were almost gray… The air was still between them, no breeze whatsoever. In a panic her hand went to his neck to feel for his pulse, immediately her adrenaline pounced. There was no pulse and his neck felt cold, there wasn't the usual warmth that he'd always had.

"Love wake up!" Subconscious tears started welling up in her eyes as she shook him hard then yanked on his shirt pulling him up from the bed slightly.

"Baby don't do this to me!" She pleaded, "Not like this!" His head hung back awkwardly. She was so concentrated on him that she didn't hear the; "Dad? DAD!" coming from beside her. Her daughter Jessica was up next to her wide eyed and panicked unsure of what to do.

"Go get Hank!" Ororo almost yelled to her daughter who jumped to the phone and dialed the number. While her mother and sister continued to attempt CPR on her father.

The other kids started waking up to the scene as well, which just made their mother lose it more as she didn't want her children to have to see this, especially the youngest ones.

"Evan! Take the kids into the living room and wait for Uncle Hank and the others!"

"OH MY GOD DAD!" Evan said panicked seeing his unresponsive form lying there.

"GO! NOW!" His mother yelled breaking him from his shock, he didn't want to leave his parents, but there was nothing he could do, and he knew his siblings couldn't do anything either so reluctantly he obeyed her command.

Jessica paced back and forth in the hall fearfully, cussing out the phone when Hank didn't answer immediately.

Henry McCoy's room:

He growled at the phone pulling him from his dreams, he looked up at in on his night stand. Seeing the time he looked over to his phone the picture told him who it was, immediately he picked up.

"Hello Ororo?" He asked, he was greeted with a frantic voice on the other end.

"UNCLE HANK! I-hi-hits da-ha-had!" She yelled over the phone trying to keep herself steady.

"What happened?" He asked hurriedly getting ready to leave for their home.

"He's not breathing!" She yelled again taking a shaky breath, the Doctor's eyes grew wide at her words. They had all feared the worst, but were sure he'd pull through. He pushed the red button that let Jean and the others know they had a medical emergency.

"Oh God, we're on our way over now." He said then hung up galloping down the hall and stairs to the med-van, Jean, Forge along with a couple other new recruits met him there.

The house:

Jessica ran back to her mom and older half-sister who were still doing chest compressions and rescue breaths. She didn't know what to do so she paced in the room and the hall with her hands on her head sobbing. She could hear her mother and sister pleading and demanding that he not leave them yet, Laura in English and their mother in her native tongue.

The 15 year old didn't realize that she'd just led her brothers and sisters into the room as well. Her brother Evan wanted to help of course and so went past his sister to their mom's side to see if he could do anything.

It seemed like hours, but the medical team got there letting themselves in and rushed to the room.

"We're here Ororo, we're here!" Hank greeted paying little attention to her and the kids and directing it to the man who was limp on the bed.

"Please help 'im Uncle Hank! Plea-he-hease!" Jessie and a couple of the other kids pleaded while he was on his way over to him.

15 minutes later:

There was already a lot of crying from Ororo and the kids, but there were a few more voices now added to it. Laura got up going into the bedroom, she knew internally what the other cries meant, but she needed to know for sure. Turning the corner, she knew…

The blue furry man was holding his face with his left-hand sobbing, and Jean was as well as Forge held her, some tears flowed down his face as well. The couple new recruits were affected as well, but not as much because they hadn't known Logan like the rest of them there did. The body of the man they'd been working to save was now covered with a thin sheet over his entire form. At this the girl found herself in pieces, she gripped the doorframe for balance and a whale she'd never expected escaped her lungs, loud and unaffected by cracks or words.

The mutants in the room and outside both looked to her each being affected in different ways.

Beast and the others now became nothing less than rivers of tears, while the family now ran to the room.

Ororo was the first to get there, disregarding everything else, once beside her adopted daughter she stopped. Mind, heart, soul and body.

It was already storming outside, but everyone saw the terribly bright lightning and heard the impossibly loud thunder clap that followed shaking the entire neighborhood, Laura, Jessie and Evan's ears all rang now, but they didn't care. The sight of their father covered in what they knew was the blanket that signified he wouldn't be waking up was enough to cut the life out of their systems.

Hank tried his best to get a hold of himself as he turned toward them.

"I… I'm so so-har-ry." He said unable to fully stop the tears from falling, barely holding onto her control the others about swore that she turned into a lightning bolt herself with the light that filled the room and how fast she zipped over to her lover.

"Noo-hoo-hooo!" She shouted sadly, her heart shattering into a million shards lost in the blackness of grief. She held his form close to her heart as she leaned her head down onto his, he felt weightless in her arms like she was holding a pillow. She whaled as the weather outside grew worse and worse.

Though his own grief nearly blinded him Hank knew something had to be done to lessen the effect of the weather unless they wanted a crisis on their hands on top of this tragedy.

He went to the wardrobe looking in for a moment, then found what he was looking for.

A month before:

Logan was at one of the checkups that he dreaded in the medlab. Hank had just drawn some blood and had put the bandage over the puncture. There was something on Logan's mind, Hank could see it written on his face, but he didn't want to pry as he knew the other mutant didn't talk much about his thoughts or feelings, so he turned back to the desk to do one of his tests. He was surprised when he heard him speak up.

"Hey Hank…" He turned to him surprised he hadn't used his nickname he'd deemed him with,

"Yes my friend?" There was silence for a moment, the Wolverine had a look of worry on his face that he didn't bother hiding.

"When I'm not here make sure 'Roro's ok…" He said looking to him last moment, the blue mutant nodded to him.

"I will see to it that she will be well." He responded, Logan turned his gaze to the floor then the wall.

"There's a… *Clears throat* somethin' I got her to make it easier on her when her powers are too much fer her… it's in the wardrobe by her tiara… if she ever needs it…" He trailed off, Hank nodded again to him.

"I'll do that Logan." The two men looked at each other knowing they had an understanding.

Present Moment:

A necklace that was made specifically for her. It had a mutation duller in it. He turned to Jean who he knew could help her with it. Jean thought it was cruel to do this but she also knew that Storm was too powerful to release all of her negative emotions like she was now.

There was a loud snap suddenly, then the sound of crashing nearby. She looked through her tears outside to see a car that had been crushed by a fell tree and others that were bending almost to the point of breaking.

"O-Ororo…" Jean said her name softly, she didn't move, so Jean went to her friends side and put her arms around the woman crying and shaking with her. Hank and Forge came near as well, each mourning themselves and doing their best to comfort the wind rider. She suddenly turned looking to Hank, the mutant who had done his best to save her husband but couldn't. That was the only word that stuck out in her mind.

COULDN'T

He COULDN'T save him, they COULDN'T find out what it was in time to save the love of her life. They COULDN'T get here in time… She COULDN'T wake up in time… she knew he was trying to say goodbye before they went to sleep, but she didn't want to believe it, she refused to believe that was goodbye.

A part of her wanted to rage like the storm outside, but the world already felt her rage, her pain, the emptiness that now lied where so much fullness once was. She shook violently and reared up on her knees next to his body screaming… that was all she could do to express the turmoil that was blowing up inside her.

Jean moved so the other woman would have enough space to do whatever she needed to. The redhead looked down to the man pulling down the blanket a bit, then leaning down giving his forehead a kiss, Jessica followed suit then collapsed on her dad balling, her face creasing into the blanket next to his. The other kids gathered around as well.

Seeing the littlest ones Jean and one of the other girls went to comfort them, they knew that they were too young to experience death or understand...

"Daddy!" Kendall yelled loudly knowing in her heart what had happened, a small part of her feeling maybe she could make it better, just like any little good hearted child would feel. Her brother Evan knealed in front of her catching her before she reached the shell of their father.

"No-hoo-hoo! I can help him! Daaa-haaa-haaddyyy!" She screamed at the top of her lungs, just then all of the people jumped back except the woman mourning her husband. A bolt of lightning so bright and close to the house that the windows shattered inward, glass landed everywhere, the ground, bed, hair, skin.

"Storm! Get a hold of yourself!" One of the newer people yelled, no one knew what happened, but what they did know was the next second the man that had yelled at her was pasted to the wall for a good second then fell to the ground unconscious.

Seeing this the redhead knew she was up. She closed her eyes and reached out to her friend mentally.

'Ororo, I know you're sad, I understand that-'

'No you don't!' The other woman snapped back at her mentally seemingly insulted that she dared even say anything about knowing what she was experiencing right now. So the other woman stayed silent for a moment.

"GET OUT OF MY HEAD!" The dark skinned woman shouted to her friend,

"Ororo! Remember the people around here! Your children, most of them don't have their powers yet. If they get struck with a stray bolt they may not be able to heal!"

The woman rose from the bed at this and did her best to calm herself, making the weather die down to a regular thunder storm. Jean could feel the pain rolling off of her friend.

"Ororo." She said getting her attention, she held up the necklace that Hank had gotten out of the dresser for her, Ororo reached out taking it, a moment later despite having shaking hands and with some help from telepathy it was on her. Before anyone knew what had happened the weather had died down. Hank was attending to the young man that was unconscious while Jean was attending to the family doing her best to give whatever comfort she could.

'Jean, I'm taking Jeff to the infirmary...' he communicated to her through their thoughts.

'Ok.' She responded not moving.

They parted ways then, Hank and the other recruit taking the unfortunate man back to the mansion, and Jean and Forge staying with Ororo and their family.
