Disclaimer: I do not own Kingdom Hearts or Avatar: The Last Airbender.
Chapter 1: The Discovery
(Years ago, in the Fire Nation)
The pale moon shone over Capital City, the seat of the Fire Nation government and where the Fire Nation Royal Family resided. The city had many layouts to it but the family mainly lived in the Royal Palace, which stood in the center of the city and as the most recognizable Fire Nation structure. The Prince to the Fire Nation Ozai and his family: Princess Ursa, his 6-year-old son Zuko and 4-year-old daughter Azula were currently resting while Fire Lord Azulon continued to go over plans for the war against the Earth Kingdom. Ozai's older brother, General Iroh was currently away with his son on a conquest for the Earth Kingdom Ba Sing Se and claim it in the name of the Fire Nation. Zuko was passed out on his bed, exhausted from another day of trying to get his Fire bending down and dealing with Azula's little tricks when he suddenly heard something. He opened his eyes and looked up from his bed but didn't see anything moving outside of his room.
"Must've been my imagination," Zuko said, laying back down. He closed his eyes again when he heard the noise again. He quickly got up and got dressed and slowly made his way to his door and opened only to find his sister staring at him with a smirk. "Ah!" Zuko exclaimed.
"So, you heard it too?" Azula said.
"What are you doing here?" Zuko asked, annoyed.
"About to go investigate the noise but then I heard you get up, so, I thought I'd scare you first, Zuzu," Azula said.
"Well, ha-ha, you got me," Zuko said sarcastically when they heard the noise again. They both turned where was noise was coming from.
"Seems to be coming from the entrance," Zuko said.
"Well, whoever it is must be really stupid to come to the Fire Nation capital at night and knock on the front door," Azula said. The two walked down the hallways and as they got closer, the sound got louder and more distinct.
"It sounds like…" Zuko said.
"Crying!" Azula realized. The two quickly ran to the main entrance and pushed it open. They looked around before looking at the ground.
"Zuko, look!" Azula said, pointing down at a nearby step. On the step rested a small brown basket. The two siblings ran over to it and looked inside to see something moving underneath a blue blanket. Zuko moved the blanket aside and the two were shocked to see a small crying child laying in it.
"Zuko, go get Mom and Dad! I'll bring him inside," Azula said.
"But-" Zuko argued.
"Don't worry, I'm not gonna burn a child. Just go!" Azula said. Zuko quickly ran back in as Azula grabbed the basket and dragged it in. The child continued to cry until he saw Azula and calmed down. "Ugh, thank Agni that crying was annoying," Azula said. The child didn't say anything but stared at her which was beginning to irk her. "Stop staring at me," Azula said. The child didn't listen and continued to stare at her. Azula sighed in annoyance but took notice of the child's spiky brown hair. "I've never seen hair like this before," Azula said, running her hand through the hair. The child laughed at this and made to grab at her hand in response, giggling all the way. "Let me go!" Azula said trying to free her hand but the child had an iron grip, Azula eventually freed herself but fell over on her back as the child clapped its hands and laughed. You're a very peculiar child," Azula said, a small smile forming on her face but it faded when she looked at the blue blanket and moved it aside to see a small jug of water next to him with a symbol of a star on it, shocking her. "Blue? And a water jug? You can't be from the Water Tribe?" Azula wondered. She turned the jug to see the name Sora imprinted on it. "Sora? That's an interesting name," She said.
"Azula!" the voice of her father called to her and she turned to see Zuko, Ozai and Ursa running up to her. "Hhm, so Zuko wasn't joking. I will have a word with the guards about this trespasser!" Ozai said. Ursa walked over and picked up the child from the basket and cradled him.
"Oh, hello there, little one. Oh you're so cute," Ursa said, tickling the child's belly and making him laugh.
"But where did he come from?" Zuko asked.
"Haven't figured it out yet but I figured out his name is Sora and that he might be Water Tribe," Azula said, holding up the jug. Ozai walked over and grabbed it before walking up to Sora. He opened it up and shook the liquid around when the water suddenly came flying out and into the Sora's hands, who played around with it before shooting it into the air, making it drizzle lightly. Sora laughed and clapped while the family was shocked by the waterbending.
"He's a waterbender?!" Azula said, shocked.
"And at such a young age!" Ursa said, cleaning the water that fell on Sora's face, making him giggle. Ozai immediately walked up to the child while creating flames in his hands. "Ozai, no!" Ursa yelled, moving Sora out of the way of the flames.
"It's a waterbender, Ursa! We cannot take it in and neither will anyone else in the Fire Nation. This would be considered a mercy. Now give it to me!" Ozai demanded.
"Father, wait!" Zuko yelled, standing in front of Ozai but was tackled to the ground by Azula.
"Would you rather get burned Zuzu?" Azula asked, sarcastically. Ozai, readied to shoot the flames while Ursa continued to back away but Sora only seemed confused rather than terrified.
"Ozai, stop please! He's a child!" Ursa begged but her husband didn't listen and got closer to the child with the flames when something unexpected and shocking happened: The flames flew right out of Ozai's hands and into Sora's hands, playing with it like the water. He giggled to himself before shooting it into a wall, leaving a small burn mark. He laughed some more and clapped his hands, waiting for the next possible fire or water.
"Did-did he just-?" Azula asked, eyes wide open.
"Fire-bend?!" Everyone said together.
"But, that's impossible. Uncle said that only the Avatar can bend more than one element," Zuko said, pushing his sister off.
"But then the Avatar was going to be reborn as an airbender and so far he's only bended water and fire," Azula said.
"Maybe he can and he just hasn't learned yet," Ursa said, smiling at the child.
"So, if he's not the Avatar, then what is he?" Ozai asked curiously. Everyone thought over the question until Ursa came to a conclusion.
"I remember, a story I heard about a world traveler who could manipulate elements like the Avatar, only they were able to control much more than just the four bending arts," Ursa said.
"But…how did they do that?" Azula asked.
"They had a special weapon, a key shaped sword that gave them special abilities," Ursa said.
"Hahaha, a key-shaped sword? Sounds like it wouldn't have an edge. What use would it have in a fight?" Azula laughed to herself.
"It was useful because of it's powers, Azula. With the powers they had, the traveler was nearly unstoppable," Ursa said.
"And you're saying this weapon, this power, could match or even surpass the Avatar?" Ozai asked.
"With enough training and knowledge, it's possible," Ursa said.
"And this boy has that potential?" Ozai asked. Ursa slowly nodded, sadly understanding where this was going. Ozai smiled and grabbed Sora from Ursa as the small eyes looked upon the Fire Prince. "Then we should not let such a child with such great potential go to waste. He will become a part of our family. We should let my father know about this immediately" Ozai said, with a smile.
"Yes, he will be a great addition to the Fire Nation Family, Father," Azula said, happily.
"But…" Ursa, said, taking Sora back. "Fire Lord Azulon would be asleep by now and so should Sora as well as us. If he is to be a great help, then he needs his sleep," Ursa said. Ozai gritted his teeth but looked at the boy as he yawned and rubbed his eyes.
"Hmmm, very well. But as soon as he's awake, we shall present him to my father. I want him training as soon as possible," Ozai said, walking back to his room.
"Very well," Ursa said. She waited until Ozai was that she released a breath as her two children walked up to Sora.
"He seems…different," Zuko said, looking him over. The child laughed and waved his hands at Zuko, who held out his hand to him. Sora gladly grabbed it and began playing with it, making Zuko laugh.
"Yeah, he has a thing about hands," Azula said, rubbing her hand.
"What, did he get yours too?" Zuko asked.
"I'm not gonna talk about it," Azula said.
"Now, we should all get to bed, including this little guy. Can you two please gather his stuff together and take them to the guest room?" Ursa said, standing up and walking to said room. The siblings quickly gathered everything together and met their mother in the guest as she placed the child in a small bed. "There, all safe and comfy, little Sora" Ursa said, smiling. The child smiled back as he looked at her with his blue eyes before closing them and going to sleep. Ursa smiled while Zuko and Azula brought in his things. "Thank you children. You both can go back to sleep while I tend to everything else," Ursa said. Azula walked up to the crib and stared at Sora curiously.
"Mother, do you think he'll stay with us?" Zuko asked.
"That depends on your grandfather but I have a feeling that he will," Ursa said. Azula continued to stare at Sora before a smile came across her face.
(Present Day, Near the Southern Water Tribe)
A small Fire Nation ship was sailing through the frozen waters of the Southern Water Tribe. A 12-year old boy wearing the standard red and black armor of the Fire Nation, only added with a dark red cloak and hood, was staring at the water happily while leaning against the ship. He laughed when he saw some fish jump up and back into the water. He quickly looked around the ship to make sure no one was around and pointed his hand at the sea. Suddenly, a ball of water was formed and levitated next to him as he moved it back and forth in his hand.
"Prince Sora!" an elderly voice said to him, scaring him and making him drop the water while also struggling with his balance. He quickly caught himself and turned around to see a gray haired man standing behind while holding a cup of tea.
"Hehehe, hey Uncle Iroh," Sora said, nervously smiling and waving. Uncle Iroh smiled in response and walked up to him, handing the tea to him.
"Your brother wanted to spar with you again," Iroh said.
"Oh, okay. I'll be right over," Sora said. Iroh smiled and walked away before stopping.
"Oh and be careful when you waterbend. I don't want to tell Zuko that you fell overboard again," Iroh said walking away. Sora laughed and ran after him.
"That was only one time, Uncle and I wanted to play with the fish," Sora said, making Iroh laugh in response.
