It was another typical day at Summerville High School, students heading to and from classes, teachers preparing for the days lesson plans.
The only subject that the two groups had in common were counting down till fall break, despite the fact that summer vacation ended exactly a month ago on this day.
Trevor Spengler, who had moved to this part of town during that time with his divorced mom Callie, and sister Phoebe, when they inherited a home that belonged to Callie's father and the kids grandfather the late Dr. Egon Spengler, a member of the paranormal elimination team known as the ghostbusters.
Following his death, Callie, Trevor and Phoebe moved into his home and what was suppose to be a short visit turned into a premanent stay, and now living in the famhouse.
After completing history and now on his way to study hall, Trevor ran into some of his classmates/friends, Christian, Max, and Sean.
"Yo ghostboy!" Max called out to Trevor.
It was a reference from over the summer, Trevor, along with his sister Phoebe, her friend Podcast, and Lucky, a local girl saved the town from an invasion of ghosts and spirits, that took over the place.
"Hey guys," Trevor replied, as the four buds slapped each other high fives.
"So, how'd you do on that history?" asked Max.
"C+," Trevor answered.
"A lot better than I did.
Mrs. Cogan is unfair.
She gave me a C minus."
"Hey, I'd gladly trade your C minus for the D+ I've got on that math test," said Christian.
"Wait a minute, you got a D+?
I copied off your paper, and I got a straight-up D.
How is that possible?" asked Sean.
As the four headed to their next classes, a student placed a piece of paper on a notice board.
"Summerville High's annual fall dance next Saturday Sept 22 7pm-10pm, said Trevor, who asked his friends, "Fall dance?"
"Yeah, it's a big deal around here, next to homecoming and prom," Christian replied.
"How's that?"
"It's the only school dance where the girls ask the guys out," said Sean.
"Well, I already know who I want to ask out," said Trevor.
"Who?" asked Max.
Trevor nudged his head to the left, where the lockers were located and where a group of girls were standing, talking and laughing.
The teenage boy eyed one girl in particular, who had on jeans and a spagetti strap top.
That girl was Lucky Domingo.
From the first day that Trevor moved to Summerville, when he, his mom and sister stopped for a bite to eat at the local diner Spinners, where she worked as a car-hopper, bringing orders to customers on roller skates, Trevor instantly fell for Lucky.
"Whoa dude, are you really hoping for Lucky to ask you out?" asked Christian.
"Is there a problem with that?" said Trevor.
"Well, for one thing, her old man is the town's head cop," Max pointed out.
That was the major concern for Trevor.
And it didn't help with the fact Lucky's father arrested Trevor, Phoebe and Podcast, for property damage, and going over the speed limit, while chasing ghosts through town.
It was bad enough that Trevor (and his sister) got into trouble with his mom, but that his "crush's " dad was the chief of police.
"Besides, guys like us don't get ask out by girls, especially girls like Lucky," said Sean.
"Dude's got a point," added Christian.
"What do you mean?" Trevor asked.
"When it comes to girls picking out guys, the four of us are on the bottom of the dating food chain.
At the top of the chain are the jocks, the pretty boy types and the pretty boy type jocks.
Followed by the guys who look like the current hottest TV, film or music star."
"Do those who are into social media, and youtubers count?" asked Max.
"Depends on the looks.
Anyway, you then have the guys with the money, the best dressed guys, tying with the social medias and youtubers, those who play in a band, ie guitar, bass, keyboard or drums, lead singer if he's really good looking and makes the rest of the band look ugly, then the nerds who get picked to up the grades, next the non-threating guys for mom and dad's approval, only to get dumped for the bad boys.
And finally, there's us.
The slackers, losers, members of the band, and Utter."
"Who's Utter?" asked Trevor.
"The forigen exchange student who plays the tuba," Christian concluded.
At that moment, a teenage boy about the ages of Trevor and his friends, dressed in lederhosens, carrying a tuba, walked pass by them, nearly knocking Max and Sean to the ground with the musical instrument.
"I see what you mean," said Trevor.
Just then, a voice called out to him.
"Hey Trevor, do you have a minute?" asked the voice.
Trevor turned to see that Lucky was standing in front of him.
"Yeah, sure of course," Trevor answered.
"Do you mind if we talk?" Lucky asked.
"You bet!
I mean yes we can talk."
"I mean if we can talk just the two of us."
Trevor looked over at his friends then back to Lucky and replied, "Yeah, let's go by the lockers."
The two then made their way to the lockers, leaving Trevor's buddies behind.
Once they approach the lockers, Trevor asked, "So Lucky, what's up?"
"Man, he's going to blow it," said Max, as he, Sean and Christian looked on, trying not to get notice.
"He is," added Christian.
Ignoring what was going on with his friends, Trevor went on talking to Lucky.
"Anyway, being that the two of us are already well known for saving the town this past summer, the entire school believes we are the "it" couple.
"We..us an "it" couple? asked Trevor with a smile on his face, Since when?"
Lucky, who didn't really find the situation amusing at all waved a copy of the school newspaper, with the front picture, being photo shot of Trevor and Lucky holding hands and looking at one another in the eyes, while smiling.
"So, they say we're a couple?
How about that?"
"No, as I said, the school thinks we are, so we have to prove it to them.
So, that is why, we're going to the dance together."
Trevor couldn't believe his eyes, or in this case ears.
You are inviting me to the dance?" said Trevor.
"Yes, but remember just as friends and nothing more.
"So we don't get to dance or anything?
I mean, I did save you from being in that terror dog state."
"One step at a time.
I'm going to come up with a plan, and you'll find out what it is on the night of the dance.
Got it?"
"I think so."
"Great.
Pick me up at 6pm."
"You got it."
Trevor returned to his friends with a huge smile on his face.
"And that gentlemen, is how to get a date," he said, before heading off to his next class.
"He's gonna blow it," said Christian.
"Most likely yes," Sean added.
