A/N This is a sequel to "Endless Summer" by RPO-97, an AU Densi story. That story should be read first, otherwise the reader will have a serious lack of understanding as to what is going on. This story is also AU-Densi.
I really like well written AU stories; I hope you do too!
Chapter 1 Dinner date
Kensi had only been gone to Stanford University for three days checking out her room and meeting her roommate; Deeks could hardly believe how much he missed her. They had only been acquainted a little over a month – it seemed like forever!
He can't get to sleep, he's ecstatic that Kensi agreed to go on a date with him. And that delicious make-out session in her backyard hammock. She drove him wild – her lips, her sweet taste, her soft tresses, her smooth tanned skin, her toned physique, EVERYTHING!
Now, where to go, what to do on this 1st date? Of course, they had been 'out' before, but always in a group of friends. This was show time! The start of the rest of his life. No pressure? Well, let's not over-hype this or he will fall apart . . . cool, Marty Deeks. Right. College kid, law student, young man of experience. Nervous wreck.
He was due to pick her up at 6:30; her dad wanted her home by 11:00.
Dad. Marine. Clean cut, serious, no-nonsense. OMG! Deeks had met Donald and Julia at Kensi's birthday party, but that was a "Hi, glad to meet you" handshake and move on. This was taking their 'baby girl' out on the town, sight unseen. If he screwed this up, he was toast, burnt to a crisp. Talk about a relationship killer, death-in-utero.
He had selected a small Italian diner for the evening. He knew the owners well; he worked there on occasion as a waiter to help pay his bills. At least he could count on the welcome and the food; now if he could avoid sounding like an idiot, he could pull this date off.
He had told Kensi to wear casual attire, but not beach wear. He hoped that his instructions were spot-on; he didn't want to embarrass her first thing out of the gate. He had chosen a black/blue plaid button down over slightly distressed blue denim jeans and his signature sandals. He considered suggesting that they take her hot car – he thought better of it. 6:10 and he was off.
6:28
He pulled to a stop in front of the Blye home. As he walked up the front walk, he could see Kensi's dad sitting on the front steps, something in his hands. As he drew nearer, he could see that in dad's hands was a KNIFE! OMG! He is sharpening his knife. This has to be a ploy, doesn't it? Check the young man's (boy's) mettle before releasing his daughter into his care.
'I wonder how many have turned tail and ran?' Marty thought. And where is Kensi? Little help here!
She soon slipped out the front door, a stunning sight indeed. "Dad, you've met Marty; you can put the knife away."
"Just sharpening, baby girl."
'How does he get away with that Baby Girl'? Deeks thinks.
Then he looks at Kensi – she is wearing a shimmery sleeveless pink top, white jeans and sandals. Her hair was down, wavy with a few curls pinned at her temples. Light makeup and pink lip gloss. 'Damn, I wonder what those lips taste like tonight, I hope I'll find out.'
She had a light, white jacket over her left arm and she reached her right arm for his hand. He gladly obliged, squeezing her hand lightly and smiling broadly. "You are especially beautiful tonight, Kens. Thank you for the honor of our 1st date."
"My pleasure, and you look great too, Marty."
After Marty placed a chaste kiss on her cheek, they turned to go. Before taking a step, Deeks said to Donald – "I'll have her home by 11:00, is that OK?"
"That's fine son, have a nice time. Bye, baby girl." Julia also waved and smiled from the front porch.
"Bye, mom and dad!" Kensi exclaimed. Then they moved to his car, he opened her door, and she slipped in. Deeks joined her, sitting in the driver's seat and gave out a big sigh. Whew, that was over!
"I thought maybe you would try and get me to drive my car?" Kensi says with a *wink*.
"It crossed my mind, but I thought better of it. I'm hoping that day will come, I can be patient."
"Give it some time, Marty."
"I will."
"BTW, where are we going?"
"We are having dinner with some friends."
"Some friends, that I don't know?"
"Yup. Trust me, you will feel right at home."
"Okay, I trust you."
Soon they were in a part of town Kensi was not familiar with. They parked near a small Italian Diner and got out of the car. As soon as they entered, Marty was crushed in hugs from two older people with white aprons on. "Marty, son, it's been too long! Did you forget about us?" The lady said, patting Marty's cheek. "I need to get you a razor still, I see!"
Kensi stifled a laugh.
"No, no, no razor mama! Maria and Antonio, I would like you to meet Kensi, my girlfriend."
"Á girl finally! Glory be, we have lived to see the day mama," says Antonio.
"And a pretty one," says Maria. Kensi blushes and bows her head, tightening her grip on Marty's arm.
"Come this way children," Antonio says as he leads them to a table by the front window. They felt like department store mannequins.
"May I see a menu, please?" Inquires Kensi.
"No need," Maria replies. "I will start on your dinner; I know just what Marty likes."
Marty grins and *winks* at Kensi; "Prepare to be blown away," he whispers. "You haven't eaten Italian until you have eaten at Maria's table."
He was right.
After 4-courses, each paired with a small glass of the appropriate wine, they were ready for dessert. At least Antonio was ready to serve them dessert – Kensi and Marty had no idea where they would put dessert.
"No problem, little ones; how about a nice piece of mama's Tiramisu to share?"
"I think we can handle that," Kensi says and Marty nods in agreement. After dessert was finished, Antonio served each of them a cup of after dinner coffee. They each took a sip, relaxed in their chairs and talked.
