Author's Note

This is an Alternate Universe (AU), or as I prefer to call it: just another version of the myth. It is still active and being written. Currently, the Fanfic is on a hiatus so I can finish the Pillars of the Sea Arc (Poseidon battle, post-Asgard).

The fanfic is available on other platforms to read and comment and also localized in Spanish and Portuguese, you can find out more on this Linktree: /lendadeseiya

Please leave as many Reviews as you'd like. I love them! =) Connect with me on Twitter (BrunoMasei or PodcastCDZ), tell me what you think.

Since days of yore, many stories, myths and legends were told throughout humankind. Legends with so many versions told and retold throughout time. Stories were drawn. Myths were sang. And sometimes those versions not always match and elements may be different when they are told. The same can be said about the old myths of Greece, for example. But the essence of those stories never changes. Achilles never fights for Troy, Troy never wins the War, Oedipus will never stop killing his father or marrying his mother. Some details may change, but the essence will always be there.

And so it might also happen with the Legend of SEIYA.

There are many versions told and many will still be told.

Well, this one here is my version of it.

Because that's how I heard the Legend of Seiya.

THE LEGEND OF SEIYA

"It is said that a group Holy Saints always rise within humans when the Forces of Evil appear to conquer the World. There are stories that, in a distant era, there was a group of young kids who protected Athena, the Goddess of War. They were called the Athena Saints and always fought without weapons. It is said that with a movement of their hands they were able to tear the sky and that with just a step of their feet they could open cracks in the earth."

1 — SEIYA

Night in Greece. The immense sky dotted with very bright stars; two tourists had escaped the guided tour to get lost in time-worn temples long abandoned by men and gods.

"Look, a shooting star!" pointed the man at one of the bright spots that streaked across the sky before disappearing.
"The Aegean sky really is amazing. I've already lost the count of how many shooting stars we saw today." said the woman. "They say that some of these falling stars crash on earth."
"This is nonsense from the guide." disagreed the man.

Without a single cloud in the sky or any warning of a storm, a lightning flashed against the rocks and broke out near the couple. The two screamed in fright and stumbled in fear.

Still shaky, the man got up, straightened his glasses and, under protest, moved forward following the woman to see which star had fallen from the sky.

"Come back, we shouldn't be here."
"Look" she said, noticing what had fallen in the small crater.

A brown-haired child. Very hurt.

The woman looked up at the sky and again found no sign of a storm, just the starry night of Greece, apparently with all its stars unmoved. Looking back at the child, she saw that it was suffering. She got worried.

"He's badly hurt!"
"How can a kid so hurt be here in this place. We must tell someone. Let's go back"
"Hey, boy…" tried the woman.
"Who are you?" asked the boy, opening one of his eyes as he stood up. "You shouldn't be here."

A new bolt of lightning lit up the sky, a little farther away but still enough to scare the tourists with its low thunder.

"Here she comes. Get away from here." warned the boy.

The couple looked to where the thunder had broken out; among many columns, some standing and many destroyed, another lightning flashed even more powerful than the other ones in the stones. The flash of lightning held on even when the roar of thunder died. The silhouette of a woman gradually appeared, stepping into the light.

Terrified, the tourists finally fled.

The boy straightened up on his guard.

"You'll end up killing me, and I won't be able to fight tomorrow."

The lightning went out and there was only the expressionless face of a silver mask in front of the boy. A very harsh voice spoke to him.

"You're not ready yet. You have to prove to me that you can win the fight tomorrow."
"I won't beat anyone if you kill me before that!" he protested.
"Then you better survive!"

And under the Greek sky, she attacked the boy once more.

The setting of the sun on the Aegean Sea at the horizon welcomed the arrival of the night. A cold wind descended from the mountains towards a ramshackle village. At the main square, a group of children played running around before the light ended with the rest of the day. Between them, a boy is sitting alone looking at a stained stone fountain spitting water from the mouths of three winged horses. He looks at the water trying to pretend he doesn't hear the children laughing at him; the boy doesn't understand the language they speak, but he understands why they are laughing. Occasionally they splashed water at him from the fountain, pretending to unintentionally wet his things, though no doubt on purpose.

The fuss suddenly died and every kid ran away at the same time. The sound of their little shoes and laughter got farther and farther away.

"Your name is Seiya, then." the boy looked back surprised.

He saw the silhouette of a woman, for the setting sun blinded him for a moment.

"Yes, I'm Seiya." he replied. "You understand me?"
"Yes. I am like you." she said and he looked more relieved. "And what are you doing in Greece?"
"I came to get the Pegasus Cloth."

She walked and sat beside the boy; so close to her, Seiya realized that he still couldn't see her face.

"What is that?" asked the curious boy.
"A mask."
"Why do you wear one?"
"So that people are afraid of me."

Seiya was silent. His heart pounding. Of fear.

"Are you afraid?" she asked and Seiya looked again at that silver mask, a silver mask that made her face look very strange.
"Yes." he said, shrinking a little.
"Afraid of me?"
"No" he quickly corrected, looking at the mask.
"What are you afraid of, Seiya?"

The boy grew silent and tried to hide.

"Nothing."

Underneath the mask, she smiled. She got up from the bench and held out her hand to Seiya.

"I'm Marin. And I'll help you get the Pegasus Cloth."

In the early hours, the deserted landscape of ancient ruined temples was illuminated by a dim warm light from a lantern on the ground. Just enough so that they would not be left in complete darkness, for there it was already far from the city of men and also far from the village in which they lived. Sitting on the edge of the rock, they listened only to the sound of waves of the Aegean Sea breaking far below.

Seiya lying down looking at the stars and Marin sitting beside him.

"Do you really think you're ready for tomorrow, Seiya?"
"Yes," he replied confidently.
"It won't be an easy fight."
"The others weren't either and your training is much harder than any of those."
"My training won't do any good if you don't remember what's important."
"What do you mean, Marin?"
"The Cosmo, Seiya."

The boy was silent looking at the constellations when he saw a shooting star streak white in the dark sky. He sat up alert. Marin, too, looked up at the stars and turned off the lamp.

Together before sunrise, disciple and master saw, one by one, how the stars began to fall from all sides of the sky. At first, one at a time, but then an incredible meteor rain illuminated the constellations in a light show.

The boy's bright eyes reflected the meteors.

Outside the hut they lived in the farthest part of the village, Marin placed a stone on top of a broken column, at the height of the little boy.

"Break that stone with your bare hands, Seiya."

Seiya looked confused at Marin and then at the stone, not understanding how that was possible. Either way, he didn't think twice and punched the stone in front of him with all his might. His hand immediately cut itself and blood trickled through his fingers.

"Ah, Marin, that's impossible, how am I going to break this stone?" he complained, holding back his tears.
"You've been here for three years and you can't even break this stone, Seiya?"

Marin took it in her hand, and as she made a fist, the stone shattered; she made sure to keep a smaller piece of what was left of the stone to show the boy.

"Listen, Seiya. When I destroyed this stone, it fell apart into many smaller parts, like this one. And if I keep breaking it, there will only be crumbs left of it. So small, but so small you could mistake it for the sand on the ground."

And Marin again squeezed the one she had in her hands and Seiya saw the grains fallings from her hands what was once a stone that he couldn't even chip. Marin took a fist of sand from the ground.

"Do you know what stones are made of, Seiya?"
"Of sand?" he tried.
"That too. But there is something much, much smaller than grains of sand, Seiya. Something that exists is in your body, in my body, in everything that exists on Earth. And also on this stone."

Marin blew sand from her hands.

"It's the atoms, Seiya."
"The atoms?"
"Yes. The flowers, the trees, the insects, your clothes, your hair, and even the stars that shine far in the sky are made of atoms." she said looking at the Universe above them. "Destroying something means splitting its atoms, you know what I mean?"

Seiya looked at her master with admiration. She put another stone in place and asked the boy to try again.

"Focus."

And even though he focused the best he could, again he just got hurt even more.

"Seiya, the way of the Ancient Saints is linked to the creation of the Universe that was born after a great explosion." she pointed to the stars again. "Remember what I said: our bodies and the stars of the Universe are made up of the same thing. But in the beginning of everything, all the stars, the galaxies, the stones, your body and my body were part of only one thing. One thing that exploded to being the Universe as we know it. They call this explosion as the Big Bang."

Marin looked again at her apprentice, listening with careful attention.

"In other words, it could be said that even your own body is but one of the many universes born of this explosion. And a true Saint is able to manifest a superb and massive power controlling that cosmic explosion within them."

Marin clenched her fist in front of Seiya.

"With that power, they can slit the earth and crush the stars. Seiya, try to explode the universe inside of you. Turn your fist into a shooting star."

The young Seiya then looked from Marin to the stars that shone in the sky; he closed his eyes, and as he closed it, he realized that the stars were still shining in his sight, inside him. He clenched his fists like she did, and when he opened his eyes, he felt being a part of it all for a moment. He brought his fist down on the rock and smashed not only that small rock in front of him, but the column itself and the ground below it, opening a crater in front of him. Marin smiled from under the mask.

"This is your Cosmo, Seiya."

The hot afternoon in Greece brought a crowd to the Arena to watch the last battle for the Holy Cloth. Seiya against Cassius.

On one side of the Arena, people were gathered so as not to miss one detail of that final match. On the other side, a man wearing a white robe, carrying around his neck a gold cross and various stone beads. The face hidden by a golden helmet and an owl-shaped staff in his hand. His voice was deep, powerful and everyone fell silent to listen.

"Each of you has fought and defeated nine warriors to this day. And whoever wins this final fight will be honored as an Athena Saint."

His staff pointed to a nearby Urn, which gleamed in the sunlight. The audience, very delighted, reacted with wonder. Before he could continue, however, a woman interrupted the ceremony by kneeling before this imposing figure.

"Forgive me for interrupting, Your Holiness. But I would like to say something first." her voice was decisive.
"And what would that be, Ophiuchus Shaina?" asked the man in robe.
"We suspect that Seiya tried to run away from the Sanctuary last night." she accused.

The audience looked surprised and the buzz quickly spread.

"With a thousand pardons, Your Holiness, but that is not true." protested Marin kneeling as well. "I was just working on a special training so that Seiya was ready for today."
"That's right, stop lying!" accused Seiya, but the other woman, Shaina, pressed again, now looking at him. There was fire in her eyes.
"Is it really a lie? Or were you afraid of losing to Cassius who is much stronger than you?" the audience collapsed laughing at Seiya. "You're not even a Greek after all. You don't deserve the Cloth or to become an Athena Saint."

The audience roared in agreement with Shaina, but next to that Holy figure, a man stepped forward and interrupted the intolerant chorus with his voice too strong.

"I'm not so sure about that. As far as I know, the birthplace of a warrior shouldn't make a difference as to whether or not that warrior is worthy of being an Athena Saint. As you are well aware, Shaina. We can only know the result of a fight once it reaches its end."
"Aioria is right." agreed the thunderous voice of the man in white. "Let's let the fight give us that answer. And if after all Seiya really is such a coward as you claim, then he won't be able to win this battle."

That figure's voice seemed to silence the audience, Shaina bowed and retreated with Marin off the battle floor. The man spoke again.

"The winner will be entrusted with the Sacred Bronze Pegasus Cloth. An Armor that lived through eons of battles."

Those who were present again marveled at Pegasus revelation. Inside, Seiya felt a great hope and a great joy to be so close to achieving what he wanted so much since he was a just a boy.

That moment didn't last long, as distracted by the Urn, Seiya was surprised and thrown into the Arena by Cassius. The fight had started.

Cassius was a huge man of great, tall and of an immense fortitude; it would not be an exaggeration to say that he was twice taller than Seiya and just as the boy, he also had already defeated 9 warriors who trained their entire childhood to become Saints. In a few minutes, Cassius did not forgive poor Seiya, punishing him with punches, kicks and attacks that soon made him spread blood throughout the Arena.

"The Cloth will stay in Greece, Seiya. You really should have run away yesterday while there was still time."
"Shut up, Cassius!"
"Oh, what a pest, after all these years you've never even been able to touch me, what makes you think today will be different?"

With a kick, Cassius opened a crater in the ground, as Seiya jumped to escape his step and ended up being grabbed in the air by Cassius. As someone who beats a carpet on one side and the other, Cassius opened other craters hitting Seiya on the ground.

"You don't deserve the Armor, Seiya. I was born here and the Cloth it must stay with someone like me. Never with a dirty boy like you." he grabbed Seiya by the neck, practically ending the battle.
"Seiya!" shouted Marin from the stands.
"Don't worry Marin, I won't kill your poor kid. I'm just going to cut his ear off and then you two can go back to where you came from together." smiling in pure derision, Cassius raised his arm and hit Seiya; the severed ear flew into the center of the Arena to the amazement of all of those watching.

Even greater the fright when they all saw that it was Cassius, kneeling, who cursed with a river of blood flowing from where his right ear was.

"My ear… You ripped off my ear!"
"You came up with the idea, Cassius."
"But what happened?" asked those watching in different ways at the audience.

Cassius suffered the pain at his knees, but even more enraged he got up and tried to hit Seiya in every way, but all he could do was just break the stones where he went, because Seiya easily escaped from all his attempts.

"What other body part do you want me to hit, Cassius? The chin perhaps?"

And he gave his chin a flying blow throwing his bulk.

"Maybe your guts. Your shoulder. Your arm. How about here?"

Seiya beat Cassius like he had never been able to before. On his knees, Cassius was confused.

"Seiya is managing to concentrate his blows perfectly. I think Cassius will…"
"Shut up!" Shaina growled at one of the nearby man who was impressed with Seiya. "If it goes on like this, he will win and take the Cloth away from Greece. Seiya… a foreigner!"

Cassius cursed Seiya and showed himself to be totally out of balance; still, it was true that his physical bearing did justice to his strength, for the ground they fought seemed fragile under his punches and kicks, breaking easily. But still, Seiya wasn't in any danger anymore.

"You won't keep her! The Armor of the Athena Saint is a heritage from the Ancient Greece. A foreigner like you doesn't deserve to wear it!" Cassius then threw a powerful punch straight at Seiya that, instead of dodging, stopped him with his much smaller hand. The audience held their breath in fright.
"It is you Cassius who doesn't deserve to wear the Pegasus Cloth." Seiya replied. "You only acquired the shallow strength of the Saints. But have you ever felt the Universe inside of you?"
"The… the universe?" asked Cassius confused.
"The universe…" Shaina stammered outside. "Marin, you…"
"Yes," Seiya stated. "The Universe that burns within us all."

Seiya then dodged the punch and hit Cassius with a flying kick driving him away. And then, to the amazement of those watching, Seiya traced the air with his hands as if drawing the ten stars of a constellation.

"What is he doing?" asked those who watched the fight.
"Marin, this is cheating!" Shaina barked. "Cassius, get away from there, don't come near Seiya!" she shouted at her disciple.

Too late.

Seiya's fist ripped the air from the Arena and a meteor rain covered Cassius from head to toe, lifting him off the ground, ripping his shields and running blood all over his body until he fell, finally defeated.

The Arena was silent, as if they had simply stopped breathing in the vain hope that Cassius would rise to defeat the foreigner. But he didn't get up anymore. And the white-robed man, with a movement of his staff, ordered their servants to descend with the Bronze Urn to the battle floor. In the entire Arena, no one spoke a word as those men went about their task.

The voice of that Holy figure filled the Arena decreeing the result.

"The Goddess Athena recognized Seiya as one of her Holy Saints. And it is with great justice that I give you the Sacred Pegasus Cloth!"

Seiya was at first shocked by the adrenaline he felt, but then it filled his chest with a huge happiness and he opened a great smile on his face. Which just wasn't worse than his fuss in front of the authority.

"I did it!" he jumped happily. "Marin, I did it. I told you I could do it! The Cloth, I got the Armor!"

"I must warn you, Seiya." said the Holiness again, interrupting Seiya's celebration. "Since the dawn of times, the Saints protected Athena and fought for justice. The Sacred Cloth should only be used in the service of justice." his voice grew even deeper and more menacing. "You must never use it for your own sake, for your personal ambitions. If you turn your back on that oath and sully the Cloth, not only the Saints here in Greece but all those around the world will come after you to punish you. Never forget that, Seiya."

The boy then nodded and the setting sun saw the Pegasus Saint arise.

The Urn of the Cloth was beautiful. Studded with the figure of the winged Pegasus in front of it, Greek motifs and coats of arms on the other sides. There was an ancestry that seemed to resonate within her; the curious boy couldn't hold back from the poison to see what was inside.

"Seiya!" he felt the scolding coming.
"Oh, Marin! You almost scare me to death! I thought you were sleeping."
"Remember what Master Arles said."
"I know I know. I must use it only in the name of justice. But Marin, what's inside it?"
"In ancient times, the Urn was called the Pandora's Box, the Box sent by the Gods to Earth containing all the evils, plagues and bad spirits. And once opened, it could spread evil across the entire surface of the Earth."
"Are you saying that if I open this Urn I'll put a curse on the World?"
"The Cloth was made to protect your body, Seiya. When in danger, don't hesitate to open the Urn. Only then will you know if it will unleash the world's evils… or the bearer's hope."

Seiya looked at the Urn, swallowing hard, but still crazy curious to pull that chain from Pegasus' mouth and see what his Urn was made of. His attention was cut off by Marin who rose from the bed as if alerted by something. She quickly dressed in her shields and stared out the window.

"What is it?"
"Come on. Get your things together. Get the Urn. We have to go."
"But the boat doesn't leave until tomorrow."
"Tomorrow will be too late. Tomorrow you will be dead."
"What are you saying, Marin?"
"Come on, Seiya, they're coming!"

The truth is that Seiya didn't have anything, so he put his leather shoes, carried the heavy Urn on his back. And then followed Marin out of the hut and forward into the ruins.

They ran and ran and ran in vain, for in a short time they had an obstacle in front of them. A woman with angry eyes; highlighted by a war paint on the face.

"Too late." said Marin. Seiya squinted and saw that it was Shaina.
"What do you want with me?" he asked.
"Where do you think you're going? Are you running away? The place of the Saints are in the Sanctuary." she said.
"It's not your business where I go!." he snapped.
"Marin, will you fight me or will you hand him over to me?"

There was a silence between the two before Marin could choose her words.

"He is an Athena Saint, he doesn't need my protection anymore. Seiya, if you want to go back home, you'll have to win this fight."

Shaina grinned and leapt to an impressive height for Seiya's amazement, only to descend on him with her claws of thunder electrocuting the boy and not even giving him a chance to escape. He fell to the ground panting.

"What was this?" He was confused, to much Shaina pleasure.
"You will die in my next attack." she threatened.
"No… I'll live!"

Seiya got up, traced his stars in the air and rained meteors down on Shaina, but to Seiya's surprise, she didn't even scratch herself and absolutely blocked all of his blows.

"That's ridiculous. I can understand why Cassius was hit, but I can see each of your fists in that little meteor shower of yours, Seiya. Your technique is too slow! Thunder Claws!" roared her voice off the stones as she summoned her Cosmo.

Seiya was again hit powerfully by Shaina's shocks and flung to the bottom of a low ravine next to his Urn, which broke free and flipped further on from his back.

His body spasmed from Shaina's electricity and he didn't remember feeling so much pain. How could he beat someone who was as strong as his own master, how could he beat that thunder snake, those electrocuted claws?

As he raised his head and started to rise from the ground, Seiya saw his Urn overturned. A trembling hand went for the chain. Within him he was racked with fear and hope about what he was about to release.

He pulled on the short chain, the eyes of the winged horse on the Urn set ablaze and it opened gushing a gleaming white fire in the shape of a fabulous Pegasus. When the white fire was extinguished, Seiya noticed that, in its place, it was revealed an Armor mounted in the shape of its constellation, like a totem.

He approached and could hear a low rumble from that Armor, which seemed to invite his body. Seiya looked at his hands and saw them burning an almost indistinguishable fire, because his body no doubt felt the explosion of the creation of the universe within. His Cosmo was burning.

And that infinite sensation resonate along with the intensity of the Armor glowing; and she lit up even more strongly before splitting in midair into various parts that sought to dress Seiya's young body. From head to toe, he felt the protection of his Bronze Armor. The Pegasus Cloth.

And finally he became the Pegasus Saint.

Shaina felt the enormous pressure of Pegasus birth as she felt his cosmo burning, hot as the blood running down her right shoulder.

"What? When did… Where's Seiya?"
"I am here." Seiya was immediately behind her.
"This is…the Pegasus Cloth." Shaina was amazed.
"It's better to go back Shaina. Now that Seiya is wearing his Cloth, you won't stand a chance against him. No person can do anything against a Saint wearing his Sacred Cloth." said Marin, watching the two of them.
"That's what we'll see." replied Shaina confidently. "Is Seiya really one with his Cloth? We will see!"

And when attacking Seiya, even though he saw Shaina's movements, he couldn't dodge at all. With ease he went to the ground. And twice, three times, he tried to attack, tried to dodge, but the result was always the same: he went to the ground every time. He heard Shaina chuckle.

"As I imagined. He cannot master the Cloth. It is nothing but a useless hunk of metal to him."

Seiya didn't understand why the armor was so heavy on the body; he seemed to be carrying lead on his legs, arms, waist, shoulders, head. He could barely move.

But for a moment, as soon as he put it on for the first time, he felt as strong as he'd ever thought possible and the Cloth was so light it hardly felt true to be with it.

"I don't understand what's happening." Seiya complained, bleeding and barely able to get up because of the weight he was carrying.
"You are very wrong to think that your strength will come from wearing the Cloth alone."
"Shaina is right, Seiya. Didn't I told you that Saints draw their strength by blasting the inner universe in their bodies? Well, it's just the same with the Cloth too. As long as you think that just being with it in the body, you will have strength, it will be a heavy metal that will prevent you from fighting. But if you burn the Cosmo inside of you, it will lighten and give you even more power!"
"Listen to your master, Seiya. She kinda gives you some really good tips. You have to burn your cosmos if you want to defeat me!"

The Thunder Claws again hurled Seiya away.

"Shaina!" shouted voices in the distance. Shaina's lackeys. "Sorry we're late, but we see you've already found this moron!"
"You useless idiots. I don't need you anymore." she said.
"Don't talk like that, Shaina. Leave him to us, no need to waste your time with this basher. Leave him with us!"

And they pushed forward through it to Seiya's outstretched body. He started to be beaten by those men, who were trying to rip off his Armor and punish him for existing.

"A foreigner must never wear this Sacred Cloth. Get out! Take it off soon!"

But when one of them placed his hand on Seiya's protected shoulder, it had the misfortune of feeling the intense heat of his Cosmo, because now the Pegasus glowed and burned intensely, slowly rising among that dozen warriors who beat him mercilessly. If a leaf touched Seiya at that moment, it would be reduced to ashes.

"Get out of here!" he threatened.
"You ridiculous foreigner. We'll finish you right here!" threatened several voices.

Seiya now burned his Cosmo along with his Cloth and it had never felt so light to him; gleaming with the very glow he emitted from his inner universe. His hands sought the stars and when his eyes reopened to that image of men coming towards him, he had no doubt that he would win. How he had no doubts when he faced Cassius. How he had no doubts when Marin took his hand. His voice ripped the air, his fists raining.

"Pegasus Meteors Attack!"

And absolutely everyone fell defeated.

Shaina was open-mouthed and surprised.

"I didn't see Seiya's fists." she thought.

Marin walked over to her.

"You don't stand a chance now that Seiya has learned to bond with his Cloth, Shaina." and Shaina was silent as they walked away.
"Seiya… The next time we face off I will also be wearing my Cloth. And then I won't let you get away." Shaina threatened before returning to the Sanctuary.

The morning light already welcomed the sun's arrival; Seiya and Marin were sitting on the same point of rock as the day before.

"Are you going to miss me, Marin?"
"Not at all, Seiya." she replied to a giddy smile from him.
"Well, I'll be back soon."
"Tell me Seiya, the first time we met, you lied to me." interrupted Marin.
"How so?"
"You said you wasn't afraid of anything." she said and Seiya looked out to sea. "What were you afraid of, Seiya?"
"I was afraid of not getting the Cloth." Seiya said after thinking a bit and putting his hand on the Urn. "But you helped me do it, Marin."
"Hm. And now that you've conquered it, what do you intend to do by returning to your home?"

Seiya wondered if he should tell his master, but then if not her, who else could he tell? After such a long time, Seiya would like her to know the truth.

"I'm going to find my sister again."

Marin, looking out to the sea, seemed to understand more of Seiya's heart.

"Is that why you were so afraid of not getting your Cloth?" Seiya just smiled back in agreement.
"I promised I would come back." he said.
"Seiya..." Marin began in a serious voice. "Don't forget the oath."
"I know, Marin. I know."

She then stopped looking at the sea to get up, as it was time.

"Well, I hope you find your sister then, Seiya."
"Thanks, Marin."
"I think it's about time."
"Marin…" interrupted Seiya. "What about you? Are you not afraid of anything?"

Marin sat back down beside Seiya and he stared at her for a few seconds before looking back at the immensity of the sea, still disconcerted from looking at a metal face, even after so many years. And as soon as he saw the first corona of the sun rise from the ocean, he smiled and then realized that Marin had placed a cold metal gift in his lap.

"I'm afraid they'll see my face." Marin finally said, smiling back at Seiya.

ABOUT THE CHAPTER: The idea of this novelization in an alternate universe was to reimagine the story as if I were telling it to someone who had never read or seen the cartoon. My nieces, for example. I always think on them I'm telling them the story. =)

I chose to open the story with the scene from the Manga of tourists finding Seiya, because I think the civil contact with the mysterious secrets is really cool. And the relationship between Seiya and Marin is all built on this first chapter, so I needed it to go beyond the toughness of the training.

IN OUR NEXT CHAPTER: Legends of a New Era

Seiya returns to his hometown in search of his sister when he receives devastating news.
