The grunt thought that this was his lucky break. A vast, unexplored and likely previously undiscovered island almost fifty miles from any form of civilization. Lakes, forests, wooded hills, mountains and valleys sprawled as far as they eye could see, so long as they eye could actually see. A dense fog had rolled in, and it wasn't even two in the morning when he began to explore, so visibility was at zero. He brought out his partner, Hypno, and began to explore, but he just couldn't shake the feeling that he was being watched. He was used to creepy things. He had once bore witness to the Titan of the Distortion Dimension, Giratina, as it abruptly swept up the leader of his faction and took him Arceus knows where. But this was different. Before, he had been in no danger, one of many watching from the team Galactic Control Room. Now, though? Every nerve in his body was firing and every hair stood on end. The trees almost seemed to reach out to grab him.

"I knew we should have got more sleep. You see anything?" he inquired. "Hypnnono" his pokemon responded. He sighed. It was late, and they weren't making much progress. He had stopped to sit at the base of a wooded hill, leaning back against an old, graying tree. " We'll just have to keep going. This place is a veritable pokemon paradise. Who knows what kinda of pokemon we could snatch once this fog clears!", he stated. "Let's keep moving." He rose to leave with his psychic type in tow. Neither of them noticed the tree they had leaned on shudder, nor heard the low groan that reverberated through the dense night. They most certainly did not see the creature that perched in the tree's bough, a tan and green, winged creature that gazed at them with one eye. It would do it's darndest to protect the island from any and all intruders, per it's instructions. It had seen enough, and now it was time to act.

Before the intruders made it fifty yards, the creature leaped into action. An arrow, fletched in shadows and tipped in fear, tore through the night, striking the ground at the Hypno's feet. "Hyp-NO!", it shrieked, it's trainer turning just in time to watch the arrow make contact with the ground. "Where did that come from?! Ah whatever, we need to get out of here, Hypno", the grunt groused, turning to run. But there was just one problem. His pokemon wouldn't move.

"What are you doing Hypno? This way". And then they felt a tremor move through the ground. A form moved through the fog, slowly coming into view. It was …a tree? A tall, silver tree with red leaves, and branches that looked dangerously like arms. It's trunk bore a twisted grin, and it lumbered forward on six roots that acted as legs. " Venanant" it rumbled, lumbering forward, before vanishing altogether. "What in the bloody Hell is going on here" the terrified grunt demanded. Instantly, the air behind his Hypno shimmered and the tree reappeared, arm held high and with a dark green energy in the shape of a hammer around it's hand. BAM! In just one hit, Hypno was down and out. Returning his partner, the terrified grunt ran with all his might. He ran from the creature that had knocked out his trusted partner, and he ran from the guardian of the forest. He just knew it had to be a trevenant, and once they were out to get you, trevenant did not give up so long as you were in the woods. He had no idea what one was doing HERE, or why it looked so different, but he didn't exactly have time to stop and think about it.

He had been running for fifteen minutes when he saw light in a cave ahead. He ducked inside squeezing through a crack in the rocky wall, all the while praying that the creature would not find him here. He looked around him, and to his surprise, found that the cave had most certainly been recently inhabited. In the center of the cave was an indention, wherein smoldered what was left of a fire. A tent was nearby, and containers made of wood and rock were about. A tripod made of stone pillars towered above the firepit. Perfect. He thought. There may be food in one of these containers. I'll grab some grub then I'll split!

"Who are you?" A new voice broke him out of his revelry. Turning around, the grunt spotted a man near the mouth of the cave. He was tall and well built, he could tell that much. He wore dark, form fitting jeans and a blue jacket. It was hard to tell at a distance, but it looked as if his wild black hair was paired with a beard, or a the very least a shadow. A yellow pokemon sat upon his shoulder. "What's it to ya, huh? This your camp or something?" the grunt sneered. "I will ask you again. Who are you and what are you doing here?", the stranger countered. "Doesn't matter. All that matters is how I'm going to take that pokemon of yours and your food, too. This shit is hungry work", he laughed. The stranger tensed, a strange gleam leaping to his eyes. "Pikachu, quick attack" he calmly instructed, a hard edge to his voice.

The grunt reached for Hypno's pokeball before realizing two things. The first was that Hypno had been Ko'd. And the second… " Wait, a pikachu?" the grunt stammered, just barely dodging the yellow furball. "That's not possible…. You couldn't be that Ketchum kid, could you?". The stranger's expression hardened, and the grunt knew that he was onto something. "Oh man, the boss needs to here this! I gotta get outta here, pronto!", he stammered, turning to slip through the same crack he had entered through. But before he could take a step, the ground at his feet erupted, and a purple form barreled out, slamming a pinsir into the intruder's face. "SCOR", it cried, grinning. "No", muttered the trainer, "You aren't going to be telling anyone". A scream echoed through the night, then everything was silent.
