Halloween 1981 - Early Evening

"Do you think it worked love?" James asked.

"It has to have worked James the protection ritual is our last chance to save Harry" Lilly sobbed. "Thank Magic that we found it in the Library Vault at Gringotts."

"Lilly you know it makes me uncomfortable when you invoke Lady Magic." James whispered to his wife.

"Oh stuff it James. You know as well as I do that if I wasn't a practicioner of the Olde Ways there would not have been a chance to save Harry. I don't care what Dumbledore says on the matter; it is not dark to remember and respect our heritage" Lilly huffed. "Now I am going to put Harry down for a nap. He needs rest after the ritual."

"Yes dear" James conceded.

The Olde Ways always made him uncomfortable; ever since his parents died and Dumbledore became a mentor to him in sixth year. He had stopped practicing because Dumbledore had always said that the Olde Ways should be put away to make room for the future of the Wixen world. Now, however, it seemed that the ritual based on "Dark" magic maybe the only thing that would save his only son, little Harry Potter.

And it was thanks to Lady Magic that little Harry was saved. For when Lord Voldemort crashed though the door later that Halloween night; James told Lilly to take Harry and run. But all the ways to escape had been blocked so it was that Lilly knew what had to be done.

Lilly raced up the stairs and barricaded Harry and herself in Harry's nursery where only hours ago Lilly had done the protection ritual. She knew that she would give her life so that her child might have a chance. As tears dropped down her cheeks; Lilly told Harry that she loved him and she placed him in his crib completing the runic scheme. With a quite sob she turned to face what she knew to be her death knowing she would so join her husband.

Lord Voldemort used a powerful banishing charm to clear his way into the room, a nursery from the looks of it. How drool, he thought. Looking at the Witch in front of him he could see why he had been asked to spare her; she would be called beautiful and captivating, not that he cared. He would offer her what mercy he had, which was none. He knew what life she would have with his servant if she gave up her son; he somewhat hopes that she will so that he can watch as she becomes a downtrodden little piece of chattel.

"Step aside you stupid girl. You needn't die for the child. I have come for only him" Lord Voldemort spit at Lilly.

"No, not Harry! He's all I have left" Lilly cried!

"Move!" Lord Voldemort shouted.

"Take me instead, please have mercy!" Lilly begged the monster in front of her. But it did no good for the monster struck Lilly down with the killing curse, Avada Kadava and Lilly Potter knew no more. Turning to the child of prophesy, Lord Voldemort used the killing curse again. But instead of the green light killing the child, it rebounded and hit him square in the chest. And all Lord Voldemort knew was pain.
