Chapter 1
"Father, you called for me?" I ask entering my father's study. He makes an intimidating presence. His almost pure white appearance like a beacon his dark office.
"Sit." He says.
I listen, I always do.
"Draco you're eighteenth birthday was a month ago. It's time for you to begin to take on your royal duties as the crowned Prince of Slytherin."
"Of course father." Yes yes yes! I'm a man, my father sees that now! I wonder, will I be put in charge of the Royal Navy? Will I sit in the cabinet with my father and the other noble houses? Will I-
"You will marry Count Theodore Nott of House Phythalo."
I will what?
"Father-"
"The preparations have begun being made, in three months time you shall be wed to Nott and our family will have a solidified treaty that will grow our military by a hundred."
This can't be happening.
"I would have preferred you a marriage to a member of royalty of our status but what can we do? The Ravenclaw's are all married and Kingdom Gryffindor has no reigning king or queen STILL. What was I meant to do? Create an allegiance with Kingdom Hufflepuff? That would be true outrage, I'd rather the people suffer another famine."
All of the effort I've made. Every secret tear wept. All the trials my father has put me through. I suffered it all silently, with no complaint. All of it. And I am nothing but a pawn? Gifted to a man in exchange for an unlimited supply of iron?
"Father do you truly think so little of me? You'd give me away for political power? To Theodore Nott of all people?!"
Sure, there are worse people to be wed to. At least I know Theo, he's my age and conventionally attractive. But he is absolutely infuriating. There is not a man in this world more boring than Theodore Nott. I've loudly expressed my distaste for him to my father!
"HOW DARE YOU RAISE YOUR VOICE TO YOUR KING?!"
"I dare raise my voice to my FATHER! Isn't that what you are?!"
"You will be obedient. You will do your duties and marry that boy because I have told you to. DOBBY!!"
The frail elf walks through the heavy doors. "Yes, sire?"
"Escort Prince Draco to his bed chambers immediately."
"Yes, sire."
"Father please!"
"Crowned Prince Draco please follow me to thou chambers."
I peer down at the elf. He trembles. He fears my father. He fears my father like our people fear him. Like I do. He's a man impossible to reason with. There's no point in arguing, I know how this ends. I storm out of the room.

My bedroom. Like everything else in my life, I had no choice in it. Unlike everything else, I feel at peace in it.
Four walls, pure white with golden accents. The wall furthest from the door frames my bed. Powder blue bedding, golden thread used to embroider birds and flowers onto the blanket. The same blue is used on the tufted bed frame adorned with an intricately designed golden frame. There is a bedside table and matching desk. As well as luxurious sitting chairs and a bench at the foot of the bed.
I'll miss it desperately. But I can't stay. I've lived doing nothing but trying to follow my father's footsteps. I feel betrayed and let down by the family that was supposed to love and cherish me. I would do anything for my family. But they clearly wouldn't do the same. If my father loved me he'd support me not discard me at the first chance. I see that now. Where I thought I mattered I now see I've been the foolish child he has always told me I am.
The only thing he's every cherished of me is his own blood that runs through my veins.
I put on a simplest set of clothes, I'll need to blend in with civilians. I'll take some coins, leather gloves, and of course my signet ring. A gold band inscribed with the Slytherin symbol and an emerald embedded in the center. Perhaps it's strange of me to have an emotional connection to a piece of metal but this gift I received depicts my place in this world. Considering that I am letting go of that place, I should let go of this ring. Yet I can't make myself give it up. To give up my home and upbringing is not entirely as easy as I would hope.
I walk out the outer gates towards a guard.
The guard, surprised to see me, releases a short yelp. "Your highness! How may I assist you?" He asks taking a bow.
"I need to get to the main village could you call for someone to take me, it's of upmost importance."
"Of course your highness! It will take a just a short while to arrange a carriage unfortunately, we were not informed of your travel my sincerest apologies my Prince!" He starts to hurriedly walk away to make the request.
"NO!" I exclaim.
He stops abruptly. "What is the matter your highness?"
"There's no time! We shall have to take a guard's horse. This is an emergency, I have to leave immediately."
"Your highness that's highly inappropriate! We'd be.. touching."
His face begins to turn red.
"Please?" I let my voice go soft, an attempt to appear entirely innocent and hopeless. "Like I said, this is of upmost importance. I'd be forever grateful to you my guard."
He becomes as red as a tomato. It would be a funny sight if my life wasn't currently imploding in upon itself.
We arrive at the edge of town before noon.
"Stop the horse! I need to get off."
"Your highness this area is not fit for a Prince. There are bandits! Criminals!" The guard sounds incredibly scandalized. Does everyone assume me to be a weak useless prince incapable of taking care of even himself?
"Thank you for your concern, but I'll be only a moment. The ride was a bit rough I only need to stretch my legs a bit before continuing our journey." I'll need to make my escape now, before anyone notices myself or the guard missing.
He contemplates. "I suppose that's understandable, nevertheless I can't deny your request my Prince. Please be careful and return swiftly."
"Of course my guard. I'll be back soon."
I hurriedly dismount the horse with the guard's help.
I've never been in this area, there's never been a reason for me to. Pulling the hood of my cape on I decide to enter into the first establishment I see, through the back where the guard couldn't have seen me walk in.
It's quite dark and humid. The sweat of men and women filling the room. Hiding behind some large men I exit through the front entrance. Outside I see a man about my age mounting his horse.
"Excuse me? Could you possibly lend me a hand and allow me to ride with you?"
"I'm no chauffeur. I've got somewhere to be."
"Please! I desperately need help, and I have coin to pay you with." I need him to agree, my future depends on it.
"I'm heading towards the waters, I won't be making any stops or detours."
"That's fine! Perfect actually!"
He nods once. "Alright then, hurry and get on we haven't got time to spare."
I mount the horse and we begin to ride out of town. What I've just done begins to settle. There's no turning back now. I've abandoned my life as a Prince. What will happen to me now?
