Chapter 1

OC's pov

I don't remember much of my childhood. All I remember is waking up in a forest, freezing and hungry. I stayed in that very spot going in and out of , I dreamt of a woman with yellow hair and a comforting aura, a man I found that I long to listen to, and small children who I feel as if I have known them my entire life. I don't know who they are and if they're real. Are they just dreams? Or the family I one day hope to find me?

I was found by a couple of hikers on November 23, 2006 in the Monongahela National Forest, near Glady in West Virginia. I was taken to the hospital and later, it was discovered I didn't know who I was. After being released from the hospital, I was relinquished into the custody of child protective services with a new identity.

My name is Stella Jones and this is my story.

Chapter 2

March 23, 2015

"Stella, Wake up! Don't make me repeat myself again", said her angry foster mother.

Stella regrettably got ready for another day of school. She is a 13 year-old college freshman at Harvard University in Cambridge, MA. She plans to be a double major with bachelors in both psychology and she hates a lot of things, such as the foster care system and her foster family, as an example, she actually loves school. The sense of freedom and independence are one of the first things that come to mind on the list of reasons. Another, is this need to achieve her potential to the fullest. This constant reminder of dreams pushes her to remember that there might be a family out in the world looking for her, and the last thing she wants to be is a disappointment and underachiever. Her subconscious screams that they would turn her away if she is a failure.

Stella shakes her head, trying to get rid of those thoughts. She grabs her backpack and rushes out the door, trying to avoid either of her foster parents. Her foster mother, Rebecca, an angry drunk who is trapped in a shity marriage with her creepy husband Jeffrey that constantly stares at her. She almost made it outside when a hand reached out to grab her arm tightly. Soreness already set into her arm and another bruise began to form.

"Where the fuck are you going so quick? Did you forget to come see me about your chores that need to get done today?", Rebecca asked with a condescending tone.

"I'm heading to school, and I told you that I won't be able to help out around here anymore now that I'm in college", Stella said. She continued, "Don't forget the school will contact my social worker, Mrs. Garcia, if I miss too much school or fall behind in any of my classes, and anyway, you know a monthly report is sent per my agreement with the university".

Rebecca squeezed her arm one more time, then let her go. Once Stella turns around to head back out the door, she sees Jeffrey out of the corner of her eye. He is leaning against the wall with a coffee in hand and has this hungry look in his eyes. Stella hurries to leave, wanting to put as much distance between herself and these people. By the time she gets to school for her Monday 8 am poli-sci class, her professor outlined the topic for the day as the review of the Iran Coup and Face the Nation. Due to certain challenges and recent changes in her life, Stella hasn't been paying attention to the news, politics, nor anything that hasn't really affected her day to day life, so she was taken back when she saw the woman from her dreams, the United States Secretary of State, Elizabeth McCord.

Stella zoned out, trying to talk herself out of connecting the dots between the women. She feels as though she is going to pass out or have an anxiety attack. She gathers her stuff and interrupts the professor, confessing that she isn't feeling well and that she needs to leave. By the time she makes it out of the buildings, her head feels like it's split in two. Flashes of images and sounds are at the forefront of her mind like she is watching a movie. She collapsed on a bench trying to compose herself.

Stella's pov

"Mama… Mama…", I whispered, remembering my mama as she would let me read to her, would cuddle me whenever I asked for it, and so much more. It's too much. I could feel tears well up in my eyes. I can't believe I forgot my mom.

I feel as though I'm going crazy, so many questions are going through my head. Are the McCord's missing a child? If I am that child, would they want me? What happened to me that led me to being separated from my family? What should I do?

I take a few deep breaths, trying to calm myself. The first thing I should do is make a list, google search, confide in someone I trust, and remake a new list.

As Stella went to the library computers, she looked through Elizabeth McCords life; more memories of her dad, sisters, and brother are resurfacing. She keeps wondering how she could have forgotten them.

In her search, she found an article of a little girl going missing on November 10, 2006 from a park near the University of Virginia (UVA) Parents, Henry and Elizabeth McCord, and their four children were at the park, when Emily McCord, age 4, had been discovered missing. Stella continued to search for as much information as she could. Through the information, memories, and missing child photo, she inferred that she is Emily McCord.
