The Change in the Words

What if Booth chose different words while expressing his love to Brennan in the 100th episode, and she decided to give their relationship a chance?

Chapter 1

"I'm the gambler. I believe in giving this a chance," Booth moved closer to her, "I want to give this a shot."

"You mean us?" Brennan asked, at his nod she immediately shook her head, "No. The FBI won't let us work together as- " she was cut off by his lips on hers. But she immediately pulled away. "Booth," she sighed, "we can't."

"Why? Because of the FBI?" she nodded. "Bones, they all already think we are a couple or that we will be one someday. Why do you think we've been doing partner's therapy for almost three years?"

"I honestly don't know Booth."

"It's because they know something will happen between us someday and want to know if we can work together if that happens," he explained. "And we can."

Brennan shook her head, "If we cross the line Booth, the one you drew years ago, and this doesn't work out..."

"It will Bones. I know you don't believe in faith, but you have faith in me." He stood close to her, raised her chin with his knuckles and took a deep breath. This is it. "I love you Temperance. I know you don't believe in forever, but I do. I want to spend the rest of my life with you. You think you're not enough, but baby… you're more than enough. You're smart, beautiful, strong…" a tear sled down her face and he raised his thumb and wiped it away, "I love you just the way you are, Bones. You don't have to change, you're the one I want."

Tears were now streaming down her face, "But Booth, you want marriage, kids, the fence…"

"I don't care about marriage, I want a partnership… which we already have, and we're amazing at being partners," he gave her a soft smile, "and the kids Bones? I know you want a child," he raised an eyebrow, "don't tell me you don't because you do." She smiled trough her tears and nodded. "See? There's no reason why we can't be together," he gave her a kiss on the forehead and stepped away a little, "But… if you don't feel the same way," he let out a deep sigh, "we can still be friends, partners… I don't know if I could move on-"

"No." Brennan placed her hands in his face and caressed his cheeks, "I don't want you to move on," she then wiped her tears and smiled, "I... I love you Booth."

The brightest smile she's ever seen appeared on his face, "You do?" he stepped closer to her and put his hands on her hips.

She nodded, put her arms around his neck and kissed him.

It was different from the two kisses they had already shared. The first kiss they had was six years ago, and it was filled with lust, desire, and attraction. The second one was on their third year as partners and Brennan deluded herself thinking it was just for Caroline's favor.

But this one… this was different. The desire and attraction were there, but there was so much more. Love. Tenderness.

Booth deepened the kiss, and they stayed like that for who knows how long. Just kissing, touching, caressing. They both pulled away when they just couldn't keep going without constant oxygen.

Brennan opened her eyes and said, "Take me home."
