When life gave him lemons, he shot it in the face for breaking into his home.
Now, that may sound overkill, which it is, but you have to understand where he's coming from. He wasn't even supposed to be alive. He was just floating in the void, happily humming a tune as his soul was adrift.
Then a flashing light disrupts the void, and in front of him was a blob of light. He can feel it look at him, and with a feeling of acceptance chucks something at the wayward soul. Not being able to dodge he just takes it, a tingling sensation crawling over his being. Before it begins it's over, and he's quite surprised when a voice starts speaking in his mind.
[Welcome player, to the system!]
The soul stares at the screen appearing in his vision, disturbed at how he's even able to see this without any eyes.
[You're confused, and that's okay! I'm here to help you navigate your way through the system. Now, I'm looking over your old file and it seems you know of the general concept of what this is, so we'll expedite some things. For now, let's look over your character sheet as is.]

Class: ?
Level: 1 (0%)
Race: Human
HP: 20/20
MP: 20/20
STR: 10
DEX: 10
CON: 10
INT: 10
WIS: 10
CHA: 10
[Don't worry, this isn't the final draft.]
Yeah, no shit. He can't say he's surprised at the average of all of it, but he guesses it's better than rolling all his stats.
Am I being given the option to change my race?
[Oh! Uh, do you not want to be human? I thought most would want to stay as they were?]
Not if he could get a racial bonus. Is there a list of options for races?
[Not really. Are you sure about this? You get a 20% exp bonus if you stay human!]
Tempting, but he'll take his chances with the lottery.
[If you're sure…]
Roulette activated! Choosing race…

Complete!
Race: Human (Remnant)
Grim Durability- Living in a world where creatures of darkness roam has fortified your body. Grants a +2 to CON.
Aura- Your soul made physical. Not only does it protect you from harsh weather, but it enhances your body to superhuman levels. In addition you have a semblance, an ability that reflects who you are. Be warned, once your aura shatters you will suffer from exhaustion. Grants +6 to all physical stats and is always active.
Semblance- ?
Beauty is the norm- Everyone on Remnant is at least a 7, and you are too! Grants a +4 to CHA.
Oh, that's rather nice. Free aura and a boost to CON? That's not half bad, and he can stay human too, so that's nice.
[Indeed it is! Moving on, it's time to pick your class. You only have three main categories, and then sub categories for each one.]
[Martial] [Spellcaster] [Tinkerer]
That makes things a lot easier. He knows that a martial class would have merit, but both spellcaster and tinkerer have more to them.
On a whim he picks spellcaster.
[Illusionist] [Elementalist] [Summoner] [Necromancer] [Diviner]
Without a second thought he picks summoner. He's always wanted to summon a dragon, and he's being given that chance.
[Are you sure? Once you pick a class it's permanent.]
Hold on, what?
[The devs thought that having multiple classes would overwhelm the player, so once you pick one, the level cap will be removed as a trade off.]
Oh, he can deal with that.
Class Chosen!
Summoner- The way of drawing creatures from elsewhere. There is no real limit to how many you can have, but different creatures require different components. As a specialized spellcaster, your body is very susceptible to most attacks, so be careful in fights! Grants a +1 to INT and WIS and increases by 1 every 4 levels.
[And here are some freebies.]
Summon Wolf- Summons a wolf at your side. Costs 5 mana.
Summon Siberian Tiger- Summons a tiger at your side. Costs 8 mana.
The soul 'nods', content with his choice. System, I have a question. How am I supposed to get the components for anything not in world?
[Well, that is a very good question! Unfortunately, I have no idea.]
Okay, how is that fair?
[Blame the devs, not me. Now, the world. Sadly, I don't know either. However! You do have the option to mix in other worlds in the main one. Creatures, people, nations-anything can be added. However, it would be a small enough change where it wouldn't tamper with the order of the world.]
Let's do that then.
[Fantastic! Now, all you need is a name and you'll be on your way!]
Let's go with Ozz. That sounds like a fun name.
[Okay Ozz, here's what your sheet looks like.]
Name: Ozz
Class: Summoner
Level: 1 (0%)
HP: 36/36
MP: 22/22
STR: 16 (+6)
DEX: 16 (+6)
CON: 18 (+8)
INT: 11 (+1)
WIS: 11 (+1)
CHA: 14 (+4)
[If you have any questions just think about it and I'll answer to the best of my abilities. Goodbye for now!]
Ozz feels his mind cloud, sleep overtaking his mind as the voice fades out. With a final look to his sheet he lets himself succumb to sleep.
A nagging feeling tells him things are going to get weird.
?
Ozz jerks awake, body sluggish as he wakes up. Blinking the sleep away he looks around, finding himself in a forest. His arm jerks when he tries to move it, and it takes him a few moments to get control over it. He flinches when a screen pops up.
Quest Received!
Welcome to your new home! You find yourself in a forest with potential danger, and have no idea where you are. Your goal? Find civilization and figure out where you are.
Reward: A history book of where you are.
Failure: Nothing.
Ozz takes a moment to comprehend what he just read. He's actually in a different world, with other worlds mixed in. Taking in a deep breath, he looks at his surroundings. He can have a meltdown later.
Trees with red leaves surround him, and he can hear critters moving around the forest. The sound of chattering enters his ears, and walking towards it reveals the edge of the forest and some town.
The first thing Ozz thinks upon looking at the people is, "Wow, I really lucked out." The second was, "A coven scout is looking at me."
Quest Complete!
Welcome to the Boiling Isle's Ozz! Witches and Demons make up the main populace, but what else is there? Explore the island and find out what it has to offer!
Obtained: Boiling Isle's, a History.
He ignores the tab, staring at the Scout as they walk towards him. He doesn't know what to do. What can he do?
His musing is interrupted when the scout speaks, "Excuse me, person in the forest, I'm gonna have to ask you to reveal yourself. Failing to do so will result in your arrest." The scout stops in front of him, arms behind them as they wait. With no other option Ozz walks out, disgruntled at the situation.
The scout nods. "Smart. Running would have done you no favors. Now, do you have a reason why you were lurking at the edge of the forest?" Oh, now that brings up some options.
On one hand he can lie, but he can't think of anything that wouldn't sound like an obvious lie, and on the other he can tell not the whole truth, but most of it.
"I'm waiti-hold on. Are your ears round? Are you human?" Ozz blinks at the astonished tone the scout has, but nonetheless nods. The scout cheers, fist bumping the air. "Take that Steve, I knew I'd find one before you!"
Ozz just stares at the scout, eyebrow raised. "Uh, do you know where exactly I am? I woke up in this forest a few minutes ago and have no idea what this place is."
The scout stops and coughs into their fist. "Right. You're in the Boiling Isle's, an island located in the boiling sea. The Emperor's Coven-that's the local authority by the way- doesn't really have protocol for humans, so I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do."
An idea pops in his head. "Could you point me to a library? I don't really know how to get back home, so I think reading up on the history of this place would be a good idea." Not to mention I already have a book on history. Speaking of, where exactly is the book?
The scout hums, rocking on their heels. "Seeing as your human and have no magic, arresting you for not being apart of a coven would be redundant." Ozz twitches at the no magic part. The scout takes notice, and their posture gets tense. "You seem nervous about something. Care to share?"
Well, crap. Need to keep them talking. "Before that, could you explain to me what covens are?" The scout looks at him for a moment, before nodding slowly.
"A coven is a group of witches that practice one type of magic. They're branded with a sigil that keeps them from performing other types of magic, and those who don't have one are branded as wild witches. Tell me," A hand is put on my shoulder, their grip tight. "You are human, correct?"
Ozz nods, a nervous laugh bubbling from his throat. "I am, it's just that I can, well, do magic? Before you arrest me! I can only do one type of magic, and know two spells. So uh, you can't arrest me?" He whispers under his breath. "Please don't arrest me."
It's a tense minute, the scouts mask boring into Ozz's eyes. With one last squeeze the scout lets go. "I really don't know all that much about humans, but I'm putting my trust in you that what you're saying is true." Sighing the scout turns, motioning for Ozz to follow. "You said the library right? I'll escort you."
Scrambling to follow he stays close, making sure he's keeping up with the scout. Witches and Demons glance at them, some looking surprised at Ozz's non-pointed ears. Others just go back to what they were doing.
"You got a name human? Or should I keep calling you human?" Jolting, Ozz looks at the scout before replying.
"Ozz, no last name." The scout nods, not bothering to turn back.
"Names Cyril."
The conversation ends there, and the two of them lap in silence. Ozz takes this moment to look at the system.
Looking reveals not much, except for a tab that shows a list of his current summons and something interesting he wasn't informed of, and is very concerned about.

Okay, so that's a thing, and he doesn't know the other two. Which is worrying. And terrifying. He's been sent back a year though, which gives him time. For what? He doesn't know.
He's brought out of his musings when he bumps into Cyril, who's stopped. Looking around him Ozz let's out a sigh, the library in front of them.
"Alright kid, here's your stop. Try not to give the librarians trouble, they're stressed enough as is." Ozz nods, walking up the steps. He stops when a hand is on his shoulder. "Before you go, could you show me your magic? It's just, I've never heard of humans having magic, so I'd like to see before I leave." When he nods, Cyril takes a step back, giving him space.
Right, how does he do this? Can he do it mentally? Closing his eyes he focuses on a spell, but nothing happens. Opening them, he huffs.
Verbally?
"Summon Wolf." Ozz stumbles when something in him drains, stars in his vision for a moment before leaving. A blue circle appears on the ground, lighting up as a light flashes. Both Cyril and Ozz blink when a wolf appears in the circle, the canine looking around before spotting Ozz.
The animal walks over to him, bowing it's head for a moment before sitting down. He can feel a connection with it, the magic he used keeping it tethered to him and this world. Ozz lets out a breath, staring at the creature in awe. He did this. He actually did magic.
Cyril just hums, nodding. "Conjuration magic, not bad. Well, I'll leave you be. Stay safe human, the Isle's isn't really friendly to squishy things."
Ozz takes a moment to watch the scout leave before looking at the wolf. It stares at him, waiting for an order. How does he de-summon it?
"Return?" The wolf bows before turning into motes of light, energy returning back to Ozz. So a summon takes a fixed amount of mana and returns to him when dismissed. He can only assume that if it dies he would need to regenerate the mana over time.
Turning to the library he takes a deep breath. Entering the library he exhales, his nerves lessening somewhat.
Right then, time to find what's different from this world to the original.

A/n: Hi there. Sorry for not updating. College took up a majority of my time and I didn't have any free time to write. My other story isn't dead, I'll get back to writing it sometime soon. This is just something I wanted to write. Whether or not I continue this story is up in the air.
Have a good rest of your day.
