Prologue
(Third person)
A child looked out of his window as an owl landed on the tree about 6 feet away outside. He smiled in awe at the mysterious creature, getting closer to the window to get a closer look. It was nighttime and everyone else was asleep, but the child could never seem to go to sleep whenever he wanted to. This was why he liked owls, they usually sleeped during the day and were active most of the night. There was a movement too his left, which caused him to look away from the window. In the bed across from his, his twin sister yawned and sat up slowly, stretching a bit.
"Why are you still up?" She groaned. "Its not even breakfast time."
"I'm sorry. I couldn't help it." He said, looking back out the window. "Its like I'm an owl, mostly awake during the night and mostly asleep during the day."
The girl sighed before joining her brother near the window to gaze at the owl. "Well, owls are pretty cool." She said offhandedly, brushing some of her black and red hair out of her face. "Plus they must feel pretty peaceful, even with the possibility of a monster eating them."
This made the boy chuckle. "Peaceful till the end," He said with a small smile. "I wonder if mom was like that."
"Well maybe we'll ask dad in the morning." The other replied, yawning a bit as she walked back to her bed.
"Yeah..." The boy's thoughts trailing off before he looked back over at his sister. "Goodnight, Ruby. "
" 'Night Lukas." The girl mumbled before almost immediately falling asleep, her brother following her 10 minutes afterwards.
(10 Years Later)
Lukas POV
I chuckled a bit as I flipped through the pages of the weapons magazines, finding it hilarious that some people think a shotgun is more accurate than a sniper rifle.
I'm pretty sure a sniper rifle is more likely to hit a target from 3 miles away than a shotgun. I thought to myself, considering my sister had used me as a lab rat when she built her scythe, Crescent Rose. I still had the scar on my shoulder to prove it.
I felt a tapping on my shoulder and looked up at a man holding a pistol aimed at my face. "Uhhh...Hi?" I said after taking my headphones off.
"Stay back!" the man said, jerking his pistol a bit.
I shrugged and nudged Ruby whom looked at me before looking up at the man, taking her headphones off in a similar fashion. "Are you robbing us?" she asked with a confused tone to her voice.
"Y-Yeah! Now hands up!" the man was clearly out of his league here.
"Ruby, you can take him if you want." I shrugged and went back to reading my magazine
"Heh. with pleasure." my twin smirked mischievously before launching herself at the man and kicking him out the window.
"What the-" I heard a man say as I stood up. I looked in the direction of the voice and saw a red haired man in a white and red suit, armed with a cane and an ugly bowler hat that did not match his style at all.
"Guess I know whom my opponent is." I muttered to myself before charging at the bowler hat guy, using my shield, Petal, as my main weapon. I disconnected the shield from my left gauntlet and threw it at him before suddenly pulling my arm back, the gauntlet glowing red. My shield had missed the man by a few centimeters from the initial throw but soon came back and hit the man's back with the force of a small elephant, causing him to fall flat on his face. My shield returned to me as if it was being called by an unnatural force, reattaching itself rather neatly onto my gauntlet.
"You know, robbing a dust store isn't exactly smart." I said to the man, whom was slowly getting back to his feet. "Especially if I'm around."
"Yeah I wouldn't get too cocky, kid!" the man grunted out before aiming his cane at me and firing a ball of blinding light, causing me to wince and look away.
"I'll go after him!" Ruby called out before chasing after the man, who somehow managed to scale a nearby building while I was blinded.
"Ruby wait!" I called back before chasing after her, using a bit of my anger to boost my speed as I followed the pair who began to exchange bullets.
Suddenly an airship descended down near Bowler hat and a figure stood within the passenger area, their face hidden. I had managed to catch up to Ruby but stopped upon seeing the airship. It bared the marking of the white fang near the nose of the vessel as if it was a medal of honor.
I saw a flash of purple and red, causing me to flinch and hold up Petal in a guarding position.
"Are you two alright?" I heard a woman's voice ask. I looked up and nearly choked on oxygen as a woman with blonde hair, armed with some kind of wand-whip thing, managed to stop glass daggers from impailing us. I knew exactly who the woman was: Professer Goodwitch from Beacon Academy. I remembered reading about her in a magazine a couple weeks ago.
The airship took this moment to escape, the Bowler hat man waving us goodbye in a snarky fashion. I simply drew my sword, Thorn, out of its sheath, flipped it to pistol mode, and shot at the man, narrowly missing his thumb, which caused him to jerk back into the airship.
"Are you..a..HUNTRESS?!" Ruby squealed excitedly before zipping over to Goodwitch. "Can I have your autograph?"
