She didn't know when the idea came to her, but she knew that she'd do it no matter what. She wondered if it was the stories her father used to tell her, or the actuality of what the school had dissolved to from when he had been there. All she knew was that she wasn't happy with what she was seeing, and was determined to change it. As she was nothing if not persistent and ambitious.

Lynette Ambrosius, a second year Slytherin, was a witch who knew what she wanted in life. Her greatest goal was the elevation and bettering of the British Wizarding World, and she knew the best place to start was the beginning of all English magicals' journey, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

She started writing up plans in a journal after her first week at the school, and continued perfecting them, deciding to start in her second year when she'd made friends to help her. During her first year, she managed to meet a lot of people and get to know them, but surprisingly the closest friends she'd made were from different houses. Rolf Scamander, Cho Chang and Katie Bell. They were the first mixed house group of friends in almost two decades.

Rolf was the perfect example of his house traits, a Hufflepuff who was kind and loyal to a fault, if a little shy. He had the same obsession over Magical Creatures as his famous grandfather, Newt Scamander (author of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and the first British person to become a Magizoologist). Cho Chang was a Ravenclaw, and she made it pretty obvious. She was always carrying a book in her hand, could be found reading in her free time, and was the one to organize their study schedules and plan study sessions. But she also loved quidditch, was very ambitious about her future and was obsessed with Arithmancy, and with good reason too as she was very good at it. Katie Bell was very courageous and blunt, the perfect Gryffindor, she was obsessed with quidditch (and was often arguing with Cho about the English Quidditch Cup), and always had a smile on her face. She was also a Charms genius, she could probably beat a sixth year in a duel, and had a slight obsession with Muggle Movies, encouraged greatly by her Muggle-Born mother who took her daughter out to the movies once a month to see the latest movie. Then there was Lynette, a French-British Witch that descended from Myrrdin Ambrosius (who may or may not have been known by most people as Merlin), who had been the first member of her family and was a very important figure in the times of Camelot. She was a cunning and ambitious Slytherin who excelled at most types of magic but had a special love for Potions and Ancient Runes, but she would also display traits from all the other houses. She was kind and loyal to those she loved, she was intelligent and loved to learn, and she was brave in the face of danger (when it was needed of course, she wasn't stupidly brave and wouldn't just jump in front danger for just about anything like a Gryffindor, she had her Slytherin pride after all).

They were by far one of the weirdest friend groups in Hogwarts, each one from a different house and with completely different personalities but they just made it work. And even though there were friendships that were weirder –it was so obvious to her that Percy Weasley was friends with Oliver Wood and Marcus Flint, if only people were a little more observant- they were hidden from the student body. That was the unfortunate truth of the unspoken rules of Hogwarts, and it was sad to realize as there were so many people who were friends or liked each other but were afraid of showing it in public for fear of being shunned by their own house, who were supposed to be like their family. And that was the main thing Lynette wanted to change, so that there was unity in the school as opposed to the invisible borders that were there between each house.

And so, first week into her second year, after assessing the new first years as well as the others at Hogwarts, she approached her friends with her plans during the first study session of the year.

"This is insane Lynette." Cho was the one to surprisingly break the silence that had fallen after she'd explained her plans.

"I know it looks crazy, but if I manage to succeed, this could be the start of Hogwarts Unity. That's why I need your guys' help." Lynette was hesitant, but she drew a deep breath and explained "I…look this has been in my head since I came to this school. Papa used to tell me stories of the magic in this school and how beautiful it was to study here, but as soon as I came here, I just couldn't see it. He told me stories of his friends who became like his family and the houses who always supported each other, but that's not how it is now. And I want to fix that, so I started making these plans last year, but I knew I couldn't do it alone, so when I met you three, I knew that I'd be able to do it if you helped me. And here I am, showing you these plans and asking you to help me make Hogwarts magical again."

There was a silence as everyone absorbed her words, thinking it all through and looking at the plans in front of them again.

"Okay." Rolf said quietly, nodding to himself.

"Okay?" Lynette said, trying to quell her hope.

"I'll help." The Hufflepuff said, smiling at one of his best friends in reassurance.

"Me too." Cho and Katie said at the same time, smiling at Lynette as well.

"Yes!" Lynette exclaimed in excitement. "So here's what I had in mind."

While no one really realised what was happening in the library, this was the day that would be written as the start of the tide of change in Hogwarts.

'Dear _ _ _,

If you are reading this letter, you have been invited to attend a meeting of the first ever Hogwarts School Student Council. This means that you have been asked to help make Hogwarts a united front once more. If you wish to attend, please come to the portrait of Barnabas the Barmy on the seventh floor after breakfast this Sunday. No one can read this letter but yourself, everyone else will only see a letter from your mother. If you choose to come, you cannot talk about the contents of this meeting with anyone who wasn't in attendance, as this is a well-kept secret.

Cheers,

L.A, R.S, K.B, C.C'

These letters were sent to those that were especially selected to be a part of what the four had dubbed 'The Alliance Plan'.

On Sunday, as planned, the four second-years were standing in front of the portrait of the dumb wizard who had tried to teach trolls ballet, deserving of the title 'Barmy'.

"I should've known it was you four." The first to come, who walked towards the four with an amused smile on his face, was Heir Cedric Digory, who was always punctual. He had brought with him Fred and George Weasley, rumoured to be the Heirs of House Prewett, even if it was never confirmed by them or their family. The mischief twins were grinning broadly at them, amusement clear in their eyes.

"What are you guys planning?" The two said in unison, coming over to stand beside them.

"Isn't that a question usually directed at you two?" Cho said bluntly with blank eyes, causing everyone to laugh in unison. They stood together, casual conversation flowing as they waited for the rest to come.

Fortunately for them, all those that they had invited had come. They had made sure to invite those that they could be friends with and would be willing and able to help them. From the first years (the group with the largest number of Heirs and Heiresses ironically – even though it had been the height of the war when they were born-and so the largest group of those they'd invited) Draco Malfoy, Neville Longbottom , Susan Bones, Hannah Abbott, Theodore Nott, Blaise Zabini, Daphne Greengrass, Lavender Brown, Parvati Patil, Padma Patil, Pancy Parkinson, and Justin Finch-Fletchley. Then there was third years Fred and George Weasley and Cedric Diggory. They knew they'd add more of the first years and those from other years when they had gotten to know them, but for now this was the group they had chosen.

The first years seemed confused, and were standing grouped by house, which Lynette noted so she could change. (While everyone had heard of Lynette Ambrosius, especially the Slytherins -whether from her unusual friend group, her excellence in class or her unusual hair- the Slytherins were the only ones who had actually met her until that moment.) She nodded to Rolf, who paced three times in front of the blank wall, thinking of the room he wanted to appear. At the third pass, a door appeared out of nowhere.

Everyone but the second years gasped, shocked at the door that had appeared that hadn't been there before. Lynette opened the door and let everyone in, motioning for them all to sit in the chairs that were around the circular table they had conjured. Everyone sat down with shock still all over their faces.

"Now then, let us explain the idea we had." Lynette said, standing beside her three best friends in front of the table. Everyone pulled the notebooks and pens on the table towards them and started taking notes of what was said, thus starting the first of many meetings of 'The Alliance'.

The first meeting had helped finalise the plan and assign roles to each member. Everyone had loved the idea of 'The Alliance' and they'd even decided to use it for studying and learning as well, where they planned to meet in set times and dates every week, each day for a different subject and specific lesson. They'd planned to start training in Duelling and weapons handling as well as the subjects taught at Hogwarts. Neville Longbottom, a shy boy who had been shocked to be invited to such an important thing (having never gained confidence in himself), had been chosen to help everyone with Herbology every Friday after classes alongside Cedric Diggory. Draco Malfoy and Lynette Ambrosius had teamed up to help everyone with Potions on Monday after dinner, with Fred and George Weasley giving Transfiguration lessons on Sunday morning, and Katie Bell and Daphne Greengrass doing the same for charms in the evening. Lavender Brown, Parvati Patil and Pancy Parkinson had decided to help with astronomy on Tuesday before their class on Wednesday, with Theodore Nott and Susan Bones giving Defence Against the Dark Arts lessons Thursday evening, Cho Chang and Blaise Zabini doing the same for History of Magic on Saturday evening. Saturday mornings were reserved for weekly meetings.

Their main goal was to unite Hogwarts and its houses, and they decided that the best way to start was to use and control the Gossip mil. Those assigned to the task were Parvati and Padma Patil, Lavender Brown, Justin Finsh-Feltchley and Pansy Parkinson. They would control the rumour mill so tightly that only the information that would circulate would be what they wanted to be spread. Another way was to start promoting friendships between different house members. So Draco and Neville would start showing their friendship to those at Hogwarts, even if it was to a smaller scale than their friendship actually was (they had been friends since Draco's parents had invited Neville over for a play date when they had been seven, to honour Narcissa Malfoy's friendship with Neville's father Frank). And Fred and George would start showing their house members actually how close they were with Cedric (living next to each other had its perks after all).

And so, they started their plans and what they'd said they would do was what happened. In a matter of two weeks, the group chosen to manipulate the rumour mill, fondly named The Gossip Pack by the others, had taken control over the famous Hogwarts rumour mill and were using it to their advantage. They gathered information –and sometimes blackmail- on everyone in Hogwarts and also spread the news they wanted to.

Through this, they found out about Hermione Granger, a Muggle-born Gryffindor first year who was bullied by some of the boys in her year that were led by Ron Weasley. Lynette approached the girl, as they had gotten information about the intelligence the girl displayed and thought be she'd be a good addition to their group. She started helping the girl with any questions she had about the wizarding world, trying to stop the bullying as much as she could along the way, and got to know the young Gryffindor and thus gaining her trust. A few weeks after meeting Hermione and introducing her to some of the members of 'The Alliance', she was inducted into the group and took to it like a fish did to water.

She was one of the biggest strategists in the group, and through her involvement, she got the protection of the Weasley Twins, who were the two people their brother feared the most, sometimes even more than their mother, so he mostly stopped his harsh words and actions towards her. This, however, did not stop the Hogwarts dubbed 'Troll incident' from happening, but instead of everyone mocking her, Ron and Seamus were hexed thoroughly by Lavender and Parvati, who had taken the girl under their wing and were protective of her. Unfortunately, Hermione asked for some time alone, and so was stuck in the bathroom on her own when the troll had entered that night. She was saved by Ron and Harry, and she did cover for them and became their friend, but she knew they weren't the only friends she had. And that was proved when everyone immediately checked up on her the next day, either with subtle hints like the notes that she received in potions the following day from Draco Malfoy and the other Slytherins who were her age, as they couldn't publically show their friendship yet, or with the blatant protection from the twins, Parvati and Lavender, who all made sure she was alright and checked up on her periodically throughout the week after the incident.

Draco never really showed care in antagonizing the youngest Weasley and Harry Potter, except when he was retaliating for them bullying Hermione, and Harry hadn't made an enemy of Draco Malfoy, instead the instigator of the 'Remeberal incident' was Gregory Goyle, who had thus helped Harry Potter become the youngest seeker in a century while Draco looked on in amusement at the scene. This also means that the two friends, along with Hermione Granger, run into the three headed dog by accident after Halloween. This gets immediately told to 'The Alliance' by Hermione, and the oldest members go to check it out before reporting this to the Board of Governors, whose members included Neville's Grandmother Dowager Lady Augusta Longbottom, Draco's Father Lord Lucius Malfoy, Hannah's Mother Lady Elizabeth Abbott and Lynette's Father Owen Ambrosius. This forces Albus Dumbledore, Headmaster of Hogwarts, to show the trap he'd set to the council and thus telling them exactly why he had set a trap with the Philosopher's stone of all things. The day after the investigation, Professor Quirinus Quirrell disappeared from the school without a trace, forcing the board and Dumbledore to get a new Defence professor. Thankfully, they were able to convince retired Auror Julian Greengrass, Daphne's uncle, to take up the post for the year. The man was quickly loved by the students for his laid back attitude and humour, and he managed to teach the students more in a week than Quirrell had in two and a half months.

The rest of the year passed in relative peace, but these events started the rumours that there was a group who were orchestrating everything behind the scenes. The Gossip Pack made sure to help spread these rumours as much as they could, after consulting the others of course. And that was how whispers about 'The Alliance' had started.

Their appearance in Hogwarts is the change that was needed to affect the next few years at Hogwarts and the events that would occur. Because of their formation and actions, Harry Potter and his two friends were never needed to save the day and become heroes at eleven, and thus Slytherin won the house cup for the eleventh year in a row, to their happiness and pride. 'The Alliance' will also continue being a thorn in Albus Dumbledore's and Voldemort's sides as the years go by.
