The Verge of History.
History, destiny, the fates people believe in. These things are a big part of every person's life, some believe in fate and that whatever happens is meant to happen. Others do not believe in a set destiny, and believe things simply happens because events just happened to turn out that way. Regardless of what's true, fate will always play a part in everyone's lives, regardless if they believe in it or not. And this leads us to a beautiful young lady, who's fate will prove to be far greater than she ever could've imagined.
This lady has short blond hair with bangs either tied up or worn down, pale skin, and bright green eyes. She also has a slender frame and a fairly large bust, though not something she would brag about. She sports a dress featuring a white, yellow and amber color scheme, along with the addition of a bright blue scarf, white gloves and boots and brown stockings. She keeps her hair in a ponytail with a white ribbon, and she also carries a shield on her back and a sword on her side. This lady's name, is Cassandra, and right now she was following the road, leading towards Ylisse.
The reason why she was heading to such an important place, was because she wanted to join the army. She had grown up in a calm peaceful life, being the daughter of a baker, along with her older sister. But she wanted more than just an easy life as a baker. So she was set on signing up to join the Ylissian army, something he may not have told her sister about... Anyway, she was getting close to the Southtown of Ylisse. She should be able to rest there before she goes to sign up.
"Alright Cassandra, the journey was long, but you are almost there... Ok I am a little nervous, but it's far to late to turn back now. Alright! Let's do this!" Cassandra said as she picked up speed, wanting to get to the town as quickly as possible.
However, when she finally had the town in her sight... It was not what she expected at all. The Southtown settlement is on fire! Cassandra had wide eyes, knowing something really horrible must be happening. She gulped but quickly regained her determination before she began running towards the town. Turns out the town was being attacked by Plegian Bandits is an organization of bandits from the country of Plegia. They had been a problem for a while now, and now they were attacking the town, along with the people inside.
The brigand leader was the brutal savage named Garrick, he stood in front of the town's burning main hall "Gwa ha ha! Get to it, lads! Grab anything shiny, and put the rest to the torch! We gots an example to set for these Ylissean types! Ain't that right, lass?".
A Maiden was shaking in terror "S-stay away from me! Please! Someone! HEEEEEELP!".
Despite her lack of experience, Cassandra wasn't just going to run away when helpless people were in danger. Grabbing her sword and shield, she rushed in to the dangerous area. Once she arrived she slides to a stop and got ready as the bandits noticed her arrival. Despite her being armed, non of the bandits looked concerned by her sudden arrival.
"Well well. What do we have here?" Garrick asked as he turned to look at her "You don't look like one of the Shepherds, or any Ylissean for that matter. Bad time to visit the town, as it's about to burn to ash".
Cassandra glared at him "Not while I still breath!".
The Bandits laughed mockingly as Garrick smirked "Alright lads, go get her. Try not to kill her, maybe she can provide some entertainment later".
The bandits did as ordered as two began approaching Cassandra, who knew right away what Garrick meant by entertainment. She glares and got ready. She may not be very experienced, but both she and her sister had been taught how to fight just in case bandits attacked their home. Well, that training was about to come to good use as she quickly blocked a strike from one of the bandits blades. She pushed him back as much as she could, before trying to counter with a stab from her sword, but the bandits backed away, barely avoiding it, as his friend attacked Cassandra from the side swinging his ax. Cassandra blocked, but the impact made her stagger back. Of course, blocking a strike from someone much bigger than her would be difficult.
The sword wielding bandit charged her again, swinging his sword in wide but powerful strikes. Cassandra was done for if the other bandit joined in. Trusting her instincts, Cassandra used her shield to deflect the bandits sword upwards before quickly stabbing him in the chest. He coughed up blood before falling on his back, dead... Cassandra watched his dead body... This was the first time she had ever killed anyone... Needless to say, it was an experience she wouldn't forget anytime soon.
The ax wielding bandit looked shocked at his comrade's death before glaring at Cassandra "You wench! I will have your head for that!".
Cassandra snapped out of her shock as she saw she now had the bandits' full attention. This was bad.
"Not so fast!" Came a powerful voice.
Cassandra looked and saw three men and one lady. One of the men had dark blue hair and eyes. His right arm has the the brand of the Exalt. He wears a dark blue outfit with one sleeve and a white cape. His left arm has a sleeve a sliver shoulder pad. The second man looked older, with brown hair and wearing heavy armor. The third man has white shaggy hair and dark eyes, he wears a black coat with a white shirt and trousers. The young lady has pigtailed blonde hair with buttoned white headdress and blue eyes. She wears a yellow dress with a cage skirt with a white apron. her legs and feet have white stockings and brown boots.
"I was wondering when you would show up" Garrick said as he smirked evilly "Here, sheepy sheepy! Come to the slaughter!".
'So they are the Shepherds' Cassandra though before she smiled, with them here, the rest of the bandits should be easier.
The fully armored man quickly impaled a bandit with his lance, while the blue haired man rushed in and cut down another with a single swift strike. Cassandra noticed a bandit trying to attack him from behind, so having no time to think, she rushed in and blocked the strike. The man quickly turned around, taking advantage of the opening Cassandra had provided him, he stabbed the bandit through the heart, killing him on the spot.
"Thanks for the help, young lady" The man said.
"I owed you a dept. Had you not shown up when you did, I would've been in serious trouble" Cassandra said.
The Man smiled "Consider your dept paid. Now, we have more trash to take care of".
Cassandra nods as both got ready to face Garrick. Enraged by his men being cut down, he attacked without any fear. Cassandra and her new ally met his charge together, with the blue haired man dodging one strike, while Cassandra blocked another. Refusing to fall for the same trick his men did, Garrick raised his foot and kicked Cassandra in the stomach, sending her back. He then attacked her ally, who raised his sword to block Garrick's overhead strike. They entered a blade lock, and Cassandra got back up before she decided to throw her shield in to Garrick's back, causing him pain which broke his focus, allowing the blue haired man to kick him back.
"Chrom!" The white haired man called out as he was holding a tome.
The man named Chrom understood what was happening and got out of the way as the white haired man unleashed a magical blast which hit Garrick dead on. Injured but still alive, Garrick growls in anger, but in his weakened state he was left wide open for the armored man to finish him of. The bandits were all dead, the battle was won, and the town was saved.
"Well, that's the end of that" The white haired man said.
"Lucky for the town, we were close by. But holy wow, Robin! You were incredible! Swords, sorcery, AND tactics! Is there anything you can't do?" The girl asked in excitement.
"You're certainly no helpless victim, that much is for sure" Chrom said.
The Armored man gave Robin a suspicious look "Indeed. Perhaps you might even be capable of an explanation for how you came here?".
"I understand your skepticism, Sir Frederick. And I cannot explain why only some knowledge has returned to me. But please, believe me. I have shared all that I know" Robin said. Cassandra watched on, curious to see what was going to happen.
"You fought to save Ylissean lives. My heart says that's enough" Chrom said.
"And your mind, milord? Will you now heed its council as well?" Fredrick asked.
Cassandra got wide eyes. Milord?! Chrom was a noble!? How did Cassandra not notice that sooner!?
"Frederick, the Shepherds could use someone with Robin's talents. We've brigands and unruly neighbors, all looking to bloody our soil. Would you really have us lose such an able tactician? Besides, I believe his story, odd as it might be" Chrom answered, meaning every word.
Robin looked touched "Th-thank you, Chrom".
"So how about it? Will you join us, Robin?" Chrom asked.
Robin smiled "I would be honored".
Chrom smiled back before looking at Cassandra "What about you?".
Cassandra gasped and quickly bowed "Please forgive my ignorance! I had no idea you were the prince!".
"At least she has enough manners to acknowledge her mistake" Fredrick commented as Chrom only chuckled.
"It's alright. I am often told I don't really look like a noble" Chrom said, looking at the girl as he spoke.
"Nope you sure do not! Anyway, hello there, my name is Lissa! Want to join us as well? Having another lady is always a good thing" Lissa said happily.
Cassandra looked surprised "Wait, you want me to join the Shepherds? I only came here to sign up as a basic foot soldier. This was my very first battle, I don't have the training or experience for-".
"You held of an whole group of bandits in your first battle? You may lack experience, but you clearly have good instincts. Besides, joining the Shepherds isn't something you need special training for. We formed it volunteers who wants to aid in our cause. If you desire to join and fight for Ylisse, we would be happy to have you" Chrom said before offering his hand "Will you join us?".
Cassandra looked at his hand before taking it "It would be an honor".
She then gave Chrom a shinning smile, making him blush a little... She was beautiful... He quickly regained his composure "Welcome to the Shepherds... Sorry, I didn't ask for your name".
"My name is Cassandra" Cassandra introduced herself.
"Alright, Cassandra. As you know already, I am Chrom. This is the deputy of the Shepherds, Frederick, and the little one here is Lissa" Chrom introduced himself and the others.
"Hey!" Lissa said, annoyed, making Cassandra giggle.
"And my name is Robin. It's a relief I will not be the only new member here" Robin said with a friendly smile.
Cassandra smiled back "Likewise".
As they began heading back to the capital, Frederick spoke "Did you notice, milord? The brigands spoke with a Plegian accent".
"Plegian? What's that?" Robin asked.
"Plegia is Ylisse's westerly neighbor. They send small bands into our territory, hoping to instigate a war" Chrom explained.
"They are trying to start a war? Why?" Cassandra asked.
"Because they hate us. And it's the poor townsfolk who suffer! Totally innocent, and totally helpless..." Lissa said sadly.
"They do have us, milady: Shepherds to protect the sheep. Do not be swept up in your anger. It will cloud your judgment" Frederick reminded.
"I know, I know... Don't worry. I'll get used to all this" Lissa assured.
A Villager walked up "Milord, please! You must stay the night! We are simple folk of simple means, but we would gladly toast your valor with a feast!".
"A most generous offer, sir, and no doubt your hospitality would be grand... But I'm afraid we must hurry back to Ylisstol" Frederick said.
"Dark meat only for me, medium well, and no salt in the soup. I simply— Wait, what?!" Lissa looked at Frederick "We're not staying?! But, Frederick, it's nearly dark!".
Cassandra's stomach voiced it's agreement with Lissa "The reason I stopped by this town was so I could rest. I've already walked a long way".
"When night falls, we'll camp. Eat off the land, make our bed of twigs and the like... I believe you mentioned you would be getting used to this?" Frederick reminded.
"Frederick? Sometimes I hate you" Lissa said in annoyance.
"You've quite the stern lieutenant there" Robin commented.
"Yeah, well, "stern" is one name for it. I can think of a few others!" Lissa said while glaring at Frederick.
" Frederick only smiles when he's about to bring down the axe" Chrom said.
"Duly noted" Robin said with a nod.
"Yeah, he seems like he has a stick up somewhere it shouldn't be" Cassandra said, earning a snicker from Lissa.
Frederick cleared his throat "You do realize I AM still present?".
"Oh, we realize" Chrom said simply and Robin chuckled in amusement.
Frederick rolled his eyes "Milord remains as amusing as ever. Now then, shall we be going?".
"All right, all right. Ready to go, Robin, Cassanra? The capital isn't far" Chrom said.
"Of course... Can I request a bath when we get there? I'm sure I will smell like a old bear once we arrive" Cassandra said.
"Oh don't worry, we have amazing baths, and our sister Emmeryn is very kind. I'm sure she will let you have a really nice one" Lissa assured.
Cassandra smiled "That sounds wonderful. Well I guess we should get going before Frederick's armor rusts".
Frederick looked annoyed while Lissa giggled "You and I will get along just fine, Cassandra".
With that they finally moved on. This wasn't how Cassandra pictured her first visit, but serving under the prince in a militia who fights for to protecting the people of Ylisse? That doesn't sound like a bad start. Little did Cassandra know, her fate would be much greater than she could ever dream of.

A brand new story! I've wanted to make an Fire Emblem Awakening story for a very VERY long time now, as it is my favorite Fire Emblem game, mainly because several of my favorite characters comes from it. What kept me from starting to write it was one big problem... I had no idea what to have it crossover with! I had several options and it took ages for me to finally settle on one.
I ultimately picked Soul Calibur, because I haven't made a story for it in a very long time now and the more I looked at it, I realized the world and characters of Soul Calibur would be perfect for the kind of story Fire Emblem Awakening is. And I picked Cassandra as my main character, since she is my favorite female character in all of Soul Calibur.
And I picked Cassandra from the new Soul Calibur 6 timeline. Since she mixes her fighting style with magic a lot more than her original counterpart did, making her perfect for the magical world that is Fire Emblem.
.
I am very excited for this, and I hope you will enjoy this new ride with me.

Tell me what you think.
