Chapter 1: Camping
"Dad, let's stop here, it looks nice for camping," said Alexandria.
It was their family weekend. Once a month they were camping together.
"O.k. Let's put up the tents," said Michael Morgan, Alexandria's dad.
They were in a clearing in Portland's woods. Alex started to build her tent, when she heard some noise from behind her. She looked around and the noise stopped.
"You o.k. Honey?" asked Melissa Morgan, Alex's mom.
"Yeah, I just heard something," said Alex.
"Probably just a rabbit," said Melissa.
"I guess," she shrugged and went back to building her tent.
An hour later, the tents were ready, and the Morgans were roasting hotdogs on a small bonfire.
The noise came again, and this time it came with growls and body.
"Dad…" whispered Alex in panic, looking at the big black wolf.
"Shh… maybe it will go-" the wolf jumped at her dad first.
"Dad!" screamed Alex as her mom called "Mike!"
The wolf jumped at Alex next and she saw nothing more.
Alex woke up with a groan. She sat up, looking around.
Her clothes were turn and bloody. She looked for her parents. Both of them were laying on the ground, ripped apart.
She gasped and screamed and cry for them until she couldn't scream any more. Her parents were dead; she is all alone.
Alex looked around again.
Her parents were dead, she looked bloody but unharmed. She can't stay, the wolf may come back, and she can't call 911 because there is no cell reception. And even if she could call 911, what would she say? That a wolf killed her parents but left her alive? They will think she did it, and now she was lying about their death. Maybe it was a werewolf? Her head was spinning.
Alex changed her clothes and started to walk out of the woods.
Alex stopped in the first gas station she saw, just out of the woods.
She went to a payphone, put some coins in and called 911.
"911 what your emergency?"
"Hello, I was camping with my parents in the woods of Portland, and a wolf attacked us, they are dead," she sniffled.
She couldn't believe her parents were dead.
"Are you hurt? Where are you, now?"
"I am fine; they are about a mile east from the main entrance to the woods," said Alex.
"What's your name? stay with me on the line for a moment please-"
"I can't. I didn't kill my parents, but you think that I did, I got to go," said Alex and hanged up the phone.
Alex manage to stop a taxi and went to her house.
She rushed in, packed a big bag with clothes, makeup, toiletries, and her laptop. She also took a fake ID she got herself, not for drinking her age was the same at her fake ID as well, but in case she gets in trouble and need a new name. Her new name was Rosalie (her middle name) Blake (her mother's name before marriage).
She looked in the mirror for a moment.
She had long wavy black hair, dark green eyes and creamy skin, she was quite small, but not too small.
Alex took some scissors. She took a deep breath and cut her hair from its mid back length to a bit above her shoulders. She also cut some of her hair in the front of her face, creating sided bangs. She looked different now.
Alex washed her face, put a red wool hat on her head, grabbed her bag and rushed out of her house.
She went to the bus station and looked on a map.
She needed to get away before her picture will be all over the news.
It was getting dark. Alex couldn't stand all the smells and the noise, why everyone is so loud?
"Look what we have here," said a man.
Alex looked at the young man and his two companions.
"Where are you going little wolf?"
Wolf? Is she a wolf now? That will explain the noise and the smells and also why she is alive while she was brutally attacked.
"Look at that confusion, she is completely new," said another one.
"No mate? No pack? That sounds like fair game to me," smirked the third.
Alex looked around when she heard a growl.
The men stared at her.
Wait, was it her?
One of them grabbed her arm, but she released herself and kicked him in the balls, he fell down, groaning.
She quickly punched the second one in the throat making him gasp and chock, the third just ran away.
Alex thanked God that she was so much in to Martial Art.
Suddenly she heard clapping and turned around. She saw a man, smiling at her, his eyes gleaming with mischief.
"Well done little wolf." He said.
"Who are you? You are not a wolf or human, you smell different," said Alex.
"I am Coyote, I am something else," he smiled.
She just nodded, warped in her grief.
"Hash now, don't cry, I think you are going to be just fine," he whipped some tears from her cheeks.
"I have nowhere to go," she sniffled.
"Go to Aspen Creek, it's a small town in Montana, you will be fine there," said Coyote.
"You think so?"
"I am sure. Go catch a bus to Montana, then the one that will get you to Aspen Creek,"
She stared at him.
"Run along little wolf, you don't want to miss your bus," said Coyote.
She hugged him and kissed his cheek.
"Thank you, Coyote," said Alex.
"Thank you for the entertainment little wolf, good luck," said Coyote.
Alex started to walk to the office, to buy a ticket to Montana, and when she turned around to look once more at Coyote he was gone.
