character info

ANNIE WALKER- is the main protagonist of Covert Affairs. Annie is a talented CIA officer. She was recruited into the CIA because she got "burned by love" when she "let her guard down",Annie is compassionate by nature, and genuinely desires to help those she meets on missions. In addition to English, she speaks seven languages fluently - Italian, Russian, Spanish, German, French, Persian, and Portuguese, which she says is her favorite. She also speaks several other languages with varied skill levels, including Hebrew, Estonian, Chinese, Sinhalese, Tamil, Turkish, Catalan, and Swedish, and is able to hold her own in a fight (though not until after a little instruction from Auggie Anderson). Annie's job is very stressful, and she found it very difficult when she first began. Auggie helped her get used to her job and still offers advice and companionship, eventually ending up becoming her best friend. She is trained in hand to hand combat, but is still inexperienced. she has a heart condition. HISTORY

Annie disarmed and fought an experienced Russian assassin and for a moment had the upper hand, but the Russian assassin soon turned the tables and ended up almost killing her. It took her former lover, Ben Mercer, to kill him and make his quick getaway on board a subway train. In part with the help of Auggie Anderson, her hand to hand combat skills have steadily improved since then. Still, she often resorts to using whatever hard implements that are on hand to defend herself, such as poles, rods, shelving, etc. Annie was an "army brat" and had to move around frequently while growing up. As a way to cope with her frequent moves while growing up, Annie would always gather pictures of her friends and memories of the town she was at and bury them in the backyward of her house in a shoebox.

EYAL LAVIN- was a Mossad agent who later temporarily resigned from that intelligence agency. Eyal had a strong working relationship with Annie Walker and almost had a romantic interest in her. The two are close and have saved each other's lives numerous times. Eyal often disappears into a crowd whenever he and Annie are finished with a mission. It is one of his most prudent and spy-like traits, one which Annie finds endearing. Eyal also refers to Annie as 'Neshama', which is Hebrew for soul or spirit.

HISTORY

At some point, Eyal was in medical school but he dropped out to take care of his family. He spent three years in the IDF Field Intelligence Squad Then, two years with Magav in the Golan Heights. He joined Mossad in 1998 and spent five years Kidon, the hard squad

JAI WILCOX was a second-generation CIA officer. His father was formerly the Director of National Clandestine Services at the CIA before Arthur Campbell. Because of this, Jai seemed to have issues relating to people in the workplace. He was encouraged by Joan and Arthur to befriend Annie to get information about Ben Mercer from her. Jai served as the head of the CIA's Office of Special Projects, Jai Wilcox followed in the footsteps of his father, Henry Wilcox, when he joined the CIA, but he has spent most of his life trying to distance himself from the notorious legacy of the man who had been the Director of Clandestine Services at the CIA

Jai's relationship with his father has been a difficult one. He recognizes the negative light in which others see Henry Wilcox, and he tries to separate himself from his shadow, yet through the years he himself has endured the criticisms of his father as well. Henry tends to exhibit a patronizing and disparaging demeanor toward his son, speaking in pleasantries while offering criticism both personally and professionally. Even in public, Henry seems to relish the opportunity to point out that his son has not quite lived up to his expectations. When Annie joined Henry and Jai for drinks at Allen's Tavern, Henry directed his remarks toward Jai as he acknowledged that even his son doesn't approve of him and as he spoke of those agents who don't belong in the CIA because they don't have the stomach to live with getting down in the mud. Henry did not approve of Jai's decision to come back from London at the request of Arthur Campbell, and he made no secret of the fact that his opinion was not career advice but rather criticism. The two rarely converse or spend time together, so it was unexpected when Jai paid a visit to Henry at his magnificent home overlooking a view of the river. Jai came seeking advice, but the only recommendation Henry would offer was to distance himself from Arthur Campbell. Jai had been Ben Mercer's handler in Sri Lanka, and he had come to suspect that Ben might have been taking orders from someone else. When he confronted his father, Henry merely smiled and evaded the question, admitting that he knew Ben very well. In a remark intended to compare Jai to his former partner, Henry declared that two kinds of people succeed at the CIA, those who are very good at taking orders and those who cannot take orders, and Ben is extraordinary because he is an example of the latter. With a smile, Henry offered a warning to look out for himself and to take initiative because there is much more that Jai doesn't know, but his words only made Jai more determined than ever to sever the ties with his father and to be the kind of person his father is not.

AUGGIE ANDERSON was previously the head of the Technical Operations Department within the Domestic Protection Division.

Before joining the DPD, Auggie was a special forces soldier and CIA operative but was blinded while on a mission in Iraq. Arthur Campbell is Joan's husband as well as her boss. This leads to some friction between them. Their relationship initially appears loving but it is clear they have issues balancing their personal and work lives, leading them to seek counseling especially when Joan believes Arthur cheated on her in season 1. When Arthur resigns from the CIA he cites indiscretion in his marriage knowing it will be just the weakness to make Joan vulnerable and keep her from a polygraph causing Joan to force him out of the house. They later find out in the same season that Joan is pregnant with Arthur's baby, which is a key reason their relationship stays. Joan also finds out Arthur never cheated.
