Summer and Raven had long since graduated Beacon. They were technically no longer a part of team STRQ, but that didn't mean they couldn't still do missions together.
The duo went to take down an operation that had connections to Salem. They were operating out of an old warehouse in a small town outside of Vale.
Most of the grunts had already been dealt with, their bodies scattered throughout the building. The two remaining were different. They had aura, customized weapons, and something resembling skill.
Raven was handling her opponent on the ground floor while Summer fought hers on the catwalk.
Her opponent slashed fiercely with his ax, but was effortlessly blocked by Summer. Even though she was on the backfoot she knew it was only a matter of time before he left himself open. Once she saw it she was able to pin his ax down with her bastard sword, then she landed a solid kick to his face causing him to stumble back. She wasted no time following up. She quickly grabbed her metal whip off her hip, before the man could blink it was wrapped tightly around his throat. The lightning dust she had stored in it surged through the whip and his entire body. As he grunted in pain and twitched around she made her way over to him.
She released the trigger that activated the lightning and delivered a hard kick to the temple. He stumbled over the catwalk and plummeted down, with the whip still wrapped around his neck.
Aura can only protect you from so much. It moves with your body. So if something is pressing against your neck even if you still have your aura you're still getting choked. Not that it mattered. The force of the whip catching him was enough to break his aura, and neck. She loosened the whip with the click of a button and let him fall to the floor, lifeless. She looked at the body for a moment before leaning over the railing to watch Raven fight.
It looked like she missed most of it. The man's aura had just broken, and a second strike from Raven's blade, Omen cut through his chest. He fell to the floor wounded. This was the boss so they had to be careful not to kill him.
He turned on his stomach, trying to crawl away, but Raven, being her cruel self, stabbed her katana through his knee. He cried out in agony as Raven walked in front of him.
"You got nowhere to go." She said.
"All your gang seems to be dead." Summer said, gesturing to the man she just killed.
"Fuck you!" He said through his teeth.
"How original. Now who are you working for?" She said wanting to see if he would name Salem or possibly name drop another person in her inner circle.
A smile grew across the man's face. "I guess you'll never find out." He said. The hand that had been clutching his chest wound slid into his jacket pocket. He pulled out a detonator. No one had time to react.
"Ra-" was all Summer was able to get out before flames consumed the building, and she was thrown through the glass window behind her. She flew far and hard, crashing Into a neighboring building across the street. Her shoulder smashed into it, crushing the brick and violently spinning her body. Her aura was shattered.
After a few moments of processing what had happened she turned back to see the heap of rubble that was the building she was just in. "Raven!" She yelled getting to her feet. She stumbled at first before forcing herself to run.
She raced towards the ruble. There was no sign of Raven. Her heart was racing faster than it had been during the fight. How could this happen?
She made her way to what the center of the building used to be, where she last saw Raven and started lifting the debris. She couldn't let her die. For Tai, and Qrow, for her one year old Yang, and herself.
She threw heavy things of cement, and metal around till she spotted black as night hair sticking up from the ruble. "Raven!" She yelled rushing over. Quickly she lifted the piece of cement to see Raven's face. She wasn't moving. She was bloodied, and it looked like her nose was broken. "Raven, oh thank god!" She yelled. Lifting another piece of debris that covered her body. She almost dropped it when she saw the jagged piece of metal pierced through her stomach. "Oh no." She got down on her knees and put her finger to her neck. She felt a faint heartbeat. Hope filled her body. A smile forced itself across her face. "Oh hell Yes!" She yelled "hang in there Raven, I'll call for help!" She said, talking out her scroll. "Just stay with me Raven, you're strong, you're the strongest person I know!" She pleaded to the unconscious body.
