This piece of work was originally something I had written for my personal amusement while I was brainstorming ideas for my first story. That story would take some time to publish, as the plot has gotten thicker and more complicated than it was supposed to. The story was supposed to bypass The Trials of Apollo, which I haven't read. However, the longer I wrote, the more I felt I was taking elements I knew of from the series. So, I decided that I'll give the series a read to get a feel for it and hopefully write something worth your time. It would be very loosely based on the series with a hopefully original plot. I'm not even sure if its going to be finished without sacrificing quality.
Here I am offering you my experience as a reader of PJO fanfiction. All the thoughts I have collected over the years, as something new writers can use to understand an average reader.
If any one has a problem with me mentioning or publishing a review of their stories in this, feel free to PM me, and I would edit them out.
The format for this article (I guess that's what it is):
1) A Basic Guide to PJO fanfiction which would detail how to deal write characters and pairings. All the basic do's and don'ts of fanfiction. There would be no tips on how exactly to improve your writing, just stuff that fanfic writers should avoid or emphasise in their stories.. I felt that it was kind of necessary considering how many people get the basics of fanfiction wrong, even if they are otherwise good at writing.
2) Discussing all sorts of stories and tropes/clichés in the fandom. I'm simply going to talk about popularly used things that you should avoid, or at least how to make them better if possible.
Keep in mind, everything I post is my personal opinion as a reader.
I would also say I am a believer in writing for your own satisfaction. I am only pointing out stuff which I have seen rarely works. I wouldn't discourage from writing what you want, but I feel some things need to at least be addressed.
I am not saying that I'm a brilliant writer; surely there are many people out there that are better than me at writing.
