Hello guys. I bring you another story I don't know where I'm going with this but I decided to write it anyway. The characters are a little OOC, sometimes very OOC but still connected to the story and you will have your HEA.
Chapter one
Georgiana POV.
She heard the door slam shut so hard it scared her poor music master it had been almost a fortnight since Fitz had come back from Kent. Aunt Catherine always put him in a foul mood; she must have said something terrible to have him behaving like this.
"Miss Darcy concentrate please."— Mr. Sully said sternly. She did not like this man, she preferred the gentle voice of Miss Lockwood, but Fitz believed she needed a more firm master. She focused her thoughts back to the keys and hoped dinner wouldn't be a miserable affair.
She had been wrong. As they both sat down she could see the frown on his face. Her brother had never been the kind of man to smile all day but his dimples would show from time to time. Now it seemed he slept, woke and most likely would die with that frown. If it weren't because Richard warned her that their visit had been horrible, she would believe Fitz was finally disappointed of her.
Since her almost elopement and certain ruined, not only hers but the Darcy name she had hoped he would yelled insult her, something. But he did something worse. He kept silent.
She had been naive to believe that George Wickham loved her. When Fitz, surprised her and she realized how relieved she felt it was until that moment she saw her future and her families. With shame she confessed.
Her brothers anger never came, he hold her and wiped her tears after Wickham left not before yelling at her that he never would've enjoyed a marriage with such pathetic little thing.
His comfort was welcoming but soon he grew apart. –" You are too sweet Georgie. How could you know of the dangers of this world?"- How those words shamed her.
In her eyes Fitzwilliam was her hero even when their father was still alive. She admired and looked up to her older brother. Once her father died and she had turned thirteen everything changed. Her Aunt Helen started preparing her for a presentation to the ton. She had been informed three crucial things:
1. "You are a Darcy and you should behave like one"
Words that had come not only from her aunt but brother and father. The Darcy pride had its reputation a family name that had survived 10 generations should behave with a certain air and yet she did not seem to understand it.
2. "A great match is expected of you."- Something she dreaded to accomplish, she wished a love match but understood the hiding meaning of those words. If connections arrive before love she was force to accept.
3. "Be aware of men". — Her aunt Helen had warned her after she confessed of a small fancy of a stable boy. Words she had forgotten after the first sweet nonsense Wickham had whispered in her ear.
Her aunt had repeated those three steps so much she dreamed of them. It was at this time Fitz began to withdraw from her. Since she was no longer a child and soon to be a woman he did not know what to do with her and she was sent to school. And Fitz started treating her differently. If she had said or acted childlike, he would tell her. –"Georgiana you are a lady please start behaving like one".- The first few times it happen, she didn't understand what he meant. He had never reprimanded her for chasing around Squirrels, playing fetch with the dog or returning home covered in mud. But she was sent to school, and her brother became nothing more than an Occasional letter.
When the incident in Ramsgate happened, in a foolish desire she expected him to yell and punish her, he said nothing. He let other members of the family do his bidding.
Richard had yelled and cursed the skies. He hugged her and reprimanded her for being foolish.
Uncle Edward had terrified her and demanded to know if she was ruined.
Aunt Helen had cried and expressed her disappointment by closing her in her rooms for a week. She was later forgiven but now was not allowed anywhere without a chaperoned.
Aunt Catherine had insulted her through a letter; to say she was never welcome in Kent was an understanding, though her Aunt would never shunt her in society.
She was then force to stay with the Matlocks while her brother and Bingley disappeared into the country side. Christmas had been a nice affair he had come to be with her, after that her live went back to a routine. Mrs. Annesley her new companion kept her busy with her studies and her Masters became stern. Perhaps that's what her brother believed would be a fair punishment.
The sounds of plates moving around brought her out of thought, Dinner was over and no word was said.
"Brother"- she whispered, he did not react. –"Brother", she said more loudly.
"Yes, Georgiana"
"How was your day?"
"Good."— He said whipping his mouth with his napkin.
"I was thinking we could…"
"Mr. Sully said you were distracted today."
"Mr. Sully exaggerates"
"You have to be more committed to your studies"— he said, getting up.
"Where are you going?"- She said, looking out the window. He was going out this late, again?
"I will be out, do not stay up to late, goodnight."— He quickly walked out the door. He has been leaving the house right after dinner almost every day since his return. The first times she had not even notice but Mrs. Annesley had confirmed it. That was strange, Fitz never ventured out…Mrs. Young, had once said that a man that lingers so late at night in London was looking for a warm entertainment. Those little comments should've made her realize Mrs. Young was no good. She was also not too naive to not understand her words. But surely her brother would not…he would not visit those places?
Georgiana had been upstairs for hours. It was well past one in the morning and she could not sleep. She was halfway down to the library when she heard someone already there. It was Fitz sitting in a chair near the fire. He was only in his long sleeve and breeches with a brandy in his hand.
"Fitz are you well?"- She said getting closer to him.
He looked up at her like he did not recognize her. –"It's Georgiana are you well?"— She touched his forehead, it was clammy.
He narrowed his eyes and smiled—"Georgiana!"- He was well passed his cups.
"Why are you drinking?"
"Drinking? OH! You want to drink, here have a drink"—he said. Given her his glass while he grabbed the bottle.
"No Fitz, no more drinks. Let's go up to bed"— she said trying to pull him up in vain he was too heavy.
"No let's drink we have lots to drink for"
She had not seen Fitz this inebriated since his Cambridge days and on the rare days Richard was able to pull him out to ton–"what are we drinking for?"- She asked.
"To my loneliness"- He said gulping the bottle of Brandy. Georgiana's heart clenched. He felt lonely. Is that why he was acting like this? it was one thing she understood. – "You are not lonely, you have a family, me, Richard and Friends."-But he started shaking his head.
—"I have everything but her."— He slammed the bottle in the table next to him.
She froze.
"Who is her?"
"The woman with the most beautiful eyes"— he said going for the bottle again.
He's in love. Fitzwilliam is in love!
She saw his entire demeanor change. He sat down. The sadness was visible in every inch of his body. His back was curved; his elbows were in his knees. Bottle dangling from his hand, that damn frown on his face.
"I have lost her"- He whispered, and when he looked up, she gasped. There were tears in his eyes. – "Fitz, who is her? I'm sure we can do something."— She would do anything for her brother. Even accept a bride from the ton if that made him happy.
"Elizabeth"— he's said – "And there's nothing we can do. We cannot bring her back. She does not want me."
Who would not want my brother, who would not want Fitzwilliam Darcy? I don't know any Elizabeth. There's no Elizabeth on the ton at least not close acutance's. From where do I know that name? She had heard it before…
…
His letters. Hertfordshire!
"Elizabeth Bennett"— she said.
"Yes. A beautiful name, Elizabeth a name for a queen"— he said his head rolling back. She wanted to laugh at his actions, but his words were said with such pain.
"What can I do to help you?"
"Nothing! No one can help me."
"Fitz"
"No!"— He said throwing the bottle at the fire. Her eyes wide she had never seen him behave like this. Fitzwilliam Darcy was nothing but calm and collected.
"I ruined it. I was.. I… I insulted her. I broke her sister's heart. She has been lied to; she believed the words of that man of that rake that snake. I have lost her."
"What rake?" She asked him, has she been compromised?
"Wickham"— He spat, going for another bottle. Georgiana gasped. Wickham what did he had to do with this? Did he compromise Elizabeth in any way? How many other women had he damaged? How many other women will there be?
"What does he have to do with this?"
"They have met. He has joined the militia. He's in Hertfordshire and told lies about my character she believed them."— He said his words fast and sloppy.
He started opening a new bottle. She needed to make him stop drinking. She ran quickly to him.— "Fitz give me the bottle"
"Do you want another drink"— He asked tilting back and forth.
"No, I want you to give me the bottle."
"No!"— He said, pushing her aside to go sit back down
She grabbed herself before falling down— "Fitz, we can tell her the truth. We can go to Hertfordshire and tell her that he is a liar"— Could she though? Could she really trust this Elizabeth? But even if she did not trust her she could not let another woman be damaged by that man. She was not going to let that happen.
"I wrote her a letter where I confessed everything"— He said
"Everything?"—
He nodded. -"I trust her."
Georgiana sighed. There was nothing she could do now. –"Very well"- she said. – "what did she had to say?"
"I do not know. I gave her the letter and left"
Left? Have this been happening since November? No! No, he had come back … He came back more quiet, more serious, but not this angry. He must… Kent! – "she was in Kent with you"
He nodded
"Visiting her cousin he is Aunt Catherine's Parson. I was so scared when Aunt told me; I believed she had married him. I forced Richard down to the parsonage immediately"
She needed to call Richard
"When did you give her this letter?"
"After she refused me."— He said and started sobbing.
"No!"— She gasped kneeling in front of him; she could not imagine any lady of the ton refusing his proposal. How many times she heard Richard and Aunt Helen telling stories of women trying to gain his affection and failing.
"I have done everything to forget her, to forget her words but I can't. I still remember them very clearly. Had you behaved in a more gentleman-like manner." – He said to no one in particularly. He was just talking.
.— " I have tried to forget her. Her voice her laughter, her eyes they hunt me. I need her. I wake up with her in my mind. There's not a single moment of my day where I do not think of her. What is she doing? How would she like her breakfast? Could she help me manage the estate? What would she have for dinner? I made the horrible mistake of entering a bookstore yesterday. I bought nothing because I kept thinking how she would enjoy certain book as much as I would, or if she had read many of my favorites. And my mind just lingered in those thoughts, thoughts that won't happen."
Georgiana was now crying with him, the pain in her brothers Voice was so heartbreaking it reminded her off the time her father had passed away both of them lost.
"Fitz. I'm so sorry"— She said hugging him.
"The worst are my nights they have been cold since the day I met her. I fear retiring to my room. I keep hearing that proposal that rejection over and over again. I just want her and I cannot have her."
"Is that why you spend most of your nights out?"— She said, and regretted it immediately. Whatever my brother does is not of my concern. She was quite frightened of his sincerity since he was not himself.
"Yes. I was stupid enough to believe I could replace her. Calm my desire, but it was in vain. No women compares to her…"
Her cheeks flushed red. Embarrassment ran to her body. It was time to get him to his own rooms.
"It's time to go, Fitz. Let's get you upstairs. We would not want to scare the maids."— This time he did not fight, he merely nodded his entire body, defeated. Like a child, he followed her upstairs. Thankfully she had enough coordination for both of them and she managed to put him into his own bed. When she made sure he was fast asleep, she retired to her own room.
He was in love, a love not reciprocated. But she felt there was more to the story. He said he had insulted her. How? Could there be a way to help him? Could she forgive him. Could she really not want him? Did she really had no regards for him? Richard knows her. She needed to call Richard tomorrow. Drag him here if she must. She would help her brother get the woman he loved.
And to finally stop Wickham from being a shadow over the Darcy name. Yes she needed to start planning.
Richard POV
He had been training with his man all morning when he got home he was ready to start his day. A few hours in his club and then to see his lovely companion. Once in his house he was interrupted by the Butler— "Colonel you received a message from Miss Darcy"
"Thank You, Rupert"
He took the message, ran upstairs and read it while his bath was being prepared.
"Richard, you must come to Darcy house for dinner and tell Aunt you shall stay the night. I have found the reason of Fitz mood. I need your help. Our mission will not be easy."
Our mission? What have this girl gotten herself into. Yes he knew Darcy had been in a horrible mood but Fitz did not like it when people got involve in his affairs especially not his younger sister.
With no time to waste he went to the Darcy house. The Butler Mr. Matthews was waiting for him— "Miss Darcy is waiting for you in the music room, Sir."
"Fitzwilliam?"
"In his study, but Miss Darcy wishes to speak with you first."
He nodded and made his way to Georgianna. This was bad. He walked in and found her sitting with Mrs. Annesley.— "Miss Darcy you wish to see me"— he said with a curt nod.
"Yes"— She said looking at Mrs. Annesley who shook her head – "Georgiana you planned this, not me"— Oh yes this was bad.
He saw her to take a deep breath and nodded. "You are right. Close the door Richard"
Richard did as he was told and took a seat in front of her, Georgiana started pacing— "Miss Annesley. What is going on?"— He was starting to get impatient.
"Colonel, Georgiana has formation about Mr. Darcy's behavior. I do not know everything and i ask it stays like that but I did warn her not get involve, that her brothers affairs are of no concern to her. She is decided to fix the situation."— The poor companion said sternly, clearly not liking this "Mission"
Richard eyebrows rose. Georgiana is to get involved in something? After last year's incident his shy, quiet cousin had retrieved herself into a shell. He knew his family and their actions we're the ones to blame. He had spoken to Darcy about doing something but he had decided to leave Georgiana alone. Both of them lost to what to do with a women let alone a child. They had let his mother take charge but now he doubted his mother ability's.
"Georgian your brother is always in a bad mood"— He said, remembering the carriage ride from Kent. He tried to talk to him but he had snapped and told him to mind his own business. He had never seen Darcy that upset. Well perhaps Ramsgate but no one but him had seen Darcy break down in despair for his sister. He decided to give it a couple of days. But apparently it did not get better.
"Yes, I know but he at least smiled. Now, he's always frowning. He forgot to joke and laugh. He's slamming doors and yelling at my masters. Eating dinner in complete silence, leaving the house at very unreasonable hours. We're running out of Brandy bottles Richard"
Now he knew something was wrong, his cousin enjoyed a warm night from time to time but it was done in very private ways if Georgiana had noticed, it meant he was being reckless, who else had notice? Soon the rumors would start and the situation would get worse. And now he was drinking? One thing that Darcy and he had promised to his uncle was that Georgiana was to never know the bad characters of men. They are clearly failing.
"Yes he has changed but so his responsibilities, you cannot expect him to be the same as five years ago. He has a duty to fulfill"
"Duty is going to kill him."— She snapped at him, she took a seat next to him and looked at her companion. – "Miss Annesley it would be best you retire. My brother will not be able to punish you if you are not part of this, after all this is a very sensible thing. For the moment let it only be family he most likely won't take it well"
Richard was surprised that Georgiana was given an order, even more surprising that Mrs. Annesley was obeying.
"As you wish Miss, I should be in my rooms recovering from a headache". --She curtsy and disappeared threw the door. Once they were alone Georgiana relaxed.
"Now, what is really going on? Has Darcy said anything to you?"
He saw her blush. — "Yes and no"
"Which one is it Georgie?"—
"Yes. He is like I said, slamming doors, drinking too much he is leaving the house at hours a gentlemen should not. Last night he arrived to inebriated he talked to me about some things"
I hope he knew how to check his words. After his conversation with Georgiana, he would go to his study and discuss this situation like men. The poor girl already had too much on herself to add Darcy's problems.—"Continue"— He said
"I met him in the library then he made me drink with him."
"You drank with Darcy."
"Well, more like we toast."
"For what?"
"His loneliness." She said sadly and he realized the sentiments of this meeting.—"A man can feel lonely sometimes" –he said, remembering his own moments of despair. Darcy was feeling many things since his father died he was still mourning him but he always believed his cousin to able to handle that and more he always managed himself with calm. How had he not realized that Darcy was feeling lonely?
"I know loneliness Richard; you don't have to explain it to me. But he drank two bottles of Brandy and I had to drag him upstairs. He does not remember talking to me. Well, he barely had a straight set of mind to walk down the stairs."
"Why am I here, Georgiana?"—He said kindly. He wanted to finish this conversation and start a less pleasant one.
"Do not patronize me Richard. I need your help. My brother is feeling lonely because he lost the woman he loves. This duty you are talking about that I am sure everyone has ingrained in his mind is killing him"
Richard could not process her words. Georgiana was speaking to him in a tone that he only heard in accountancies and other ladies of the ton. He blanked a few times –"Darcy is in what?"
"In love"—Georgiana told him like he was stupid
"And what do I have to do with it?"— Surely the situation could not be this bad for a woman.
"You know her and I need someone to help me approach her. I need your support on this"
"I…"— He got up and started pacing. Darcy is smart he wouldn't let a women take over his life.
"She rejected him."
He stopped pacing and he turned to look at Georgiana in disbelief, there's no woman in the ton that would reject Fitzwilliam Darcy, even those in a courtship would immediately terminated it if it meant becoming Mrs. Darcy. Could it be Lady Sofia? He danced with her twice two months ago. No. Oh God, no don't let it be Caroline Bingley, No! She would never reject him. Everybody in Engalnd knew she's after Pemberley. There's no other woman in the ton Darcy would…
"Richard, I can see the smoke coming out of your ears. Her name is Elizabeth Bennett. I believe you met her in Kent."
Georgiana POV.
The expression on Richards face confirmed it would not be easy. –"You do know her?"
He nodded –"Indeed"
"Well, don't stand there. Tell me what is she like?"
Richard ran his hands threw his hair –"She is the complete opposite of your brother. She is witty, talkative always smiling. She laughs at everything and enjoys teasing far too much, the little I heard she is rather intelligent."
So she was the opposite of every woman in the town, including herself. Yes, she could see Elizabeth Bennett taking the ton by surprise.
"She's not a classical beauty like you dear, but she is rather handsome to look at, I wouldn't mind looking at her every day."— He said it with a dreamy tone.
Georgiana narrowed her eyes at him. "Good gracious, please tell me you do not fancy her."
"No. I know my place Georgie. I cannot fancy a women like her, but she was a breath of fresh air in Kent. You can only imagine between our Aunt her Parson, Anne and Darcy frowning at everything. Miss Bennett was the only one with decent conversation."
Georgiana was not entirely sure of his words. She knew Richard had to marry into money to keep his fancy living she was not afraid he would become an impediment to Darcy's pursuit but she did not need another obstacle.— "How did she behave with him?"
"She does not like him. Your words surprise me; he scowled at her in every moment they were together. He was civil but nothing more"
"Are you sure? Because he confessed loving her since Hertfordshire"
"Yes, I'm sure. My dear, your sentiments are in the right place but he will not like your involvement."
She knew a sober Fitz was not going to be nice. He would most likely be rude and disappear again. But she was willing to take the risk.
"What is he going to do? Send me away. I did not see him much anyways." She shrugged.
Richard grabbed her hand in his –"Gigi you know that is not what…"
Richard couldn't finish his sentence since Darcy walked in and stopped in the middle of the room. He looked at Richard, then at her then at their clasped hands and then turned around to look at the closed door. His eyes narrowed –"Richard what are you doing here?"
"Well hello cousin"— Richard said, leaning back on the chair. –"Georgiana invited me for dinner. I can go if you wish."— He said but made no intention of moving.
Darcy rolled his eyes—"You are always welcome"— he said cautiously.
This could not get better know he must believe i fancy Richard.
"How are you feeling brother?"— She said sweetly.
"I have a terrible headache."
"Oh my, I hope is not catching Mrs. Annesley retired for the same reason."
Richard snorted and tried to cover it with a cough.
"I'm sure it's not"— Darcy said.
They sat and talked until dinner was announced.
Darcy and Richard spoke about the war and the following Ball both of them were expected to attend. She needed to say something before he left. Richard kept sending her glances ; let's hope I do not regret this.
"Are you going to tell me what is going on?"—Her brother said while he drank his wine.
Richard looked at Georgiana then at his cousin. –"Whatever you want to say, get it over with and god help me Richard if you proposed to my sister, I will…"
"Propose! I love Georgiana but I do not love her like that."
"Fitz."— She said. –"I want to speak to you about something."
"Yes"— he said suspiciously
"Georgie just tell him, he still believes we are to be engaged and he's ready to call me out and I'm better shot"
"I know why you're so angry at everyone." She said looking at him, she will not be intimidated.
"Angry"—He said it like it was a foreign word.
"Do not deny it Fitz. You have been angry since your returned from Kent."
"You know our Aunt she is not an easy woman"— he said getting up. –"Richard, you are more than welcome to stay. But don't. You are leaving with me. Georgiana go to your room"— He said walking to the door.
She had to do something. If they did not say it right now, this would go on forever. –"Lucas, Jamie please leave us."— She said to both footman. The order made Darcy stop –"Close the door on the way out, please"
Once both footman retired, she was about to proceed. Darcy stopped her.
"Whatever you are trying to do, Georgiana It is not going to work and I am disappointed Richard that you have let her drag you into this."— Richard was not paying attention. He had kept eating and just shrugged.
"I am leaving"— Darcy said walking to the door once again.
"I'm sure your Mistress can spare you tonight— she said and regretted it immediately. The look on Fitz face made her blood cold, Richard started chocking on his food and look at her like she had gone mad. Perhaps I have Richard.
"What did you say?"—He asked her enraged.
"Do not deny it you admitted it to me last night."
"For heaven's sake! Darcy if you cannot control your tongue, do not drink."
Darcy paled at her words and hold steady from the chair in front of him.— "I…"
"Last night in the library, after we drank for your loneliness do you remember? Or did the brandy erase your memory"
Darcy started shaking his head.
-"I put you to bed, I was afraid that if I left you in the library, you would attack one of our maids."— He closed his eyes in mortification.
Richard smashed his fist on the table.
"You told me about her."—That made him open his eyes immediately. –"You spoke to me about Elizabeth Bennett."
Darcy POV.
Once he heard her name, he ran out the door. No, no, no. He thought he had dreamed about Georgiana. He's been having nightmares and very vivid dreams; he believed Georgiana to be one. He knew he had drunk last night but believed his Valet had helped him. He felt Richard and her following him to his study.
"Darcy calm down, sit"— Richard ordered him, memories of last night flashing through his mind. He sat on his chair with Georgiana and Richard standing in front of him.
My God, what did I told her?—"Georgiana, what did I tell you?"
Richard looked angry at him. Georgiana was looking at him with pity, his sixteen year old Sister Felt pity for him. I could not be in a lower situation.
"You said how you lost Miss Bennett. How you insulted her that forgetting her was not a possibility. That your thoughts were of her and you that you have tried to calm your…desire for her but no one compares to her"
His eyes went wide and he paled. My God!
"Darcy! I am going to kill you"— Richard glared at him. I would gladly let you Richard.
His sister was uncomfortable. I had burden my sister over things beyond her knowledge. –"Georgie, I'm truly sorry for the things I said, those things are my problems and you have no need or right to intrude."— he said in a sweet voice.
"Fitzwilliam stop talking to me as if I were a child. It's time for you both to understand that I am not. And that what happened in Ramsgate was a horrible, stupid, naive situation that I have learned from. Perhaps if only both of you had been more true to me I would have known who to acquainted myself with. I am not that naïve to understand what desire, lust and passion are. Do you believe that what we girls do not talk about such things, do you have any idea of the things you hear in the separation of sexes? What you hear from the maids."—
Richard started serving drinks and Darcy had to take a deep breath. That was the longest speech Georgiana had said in almost a year and he did not like where it was going.
"Georgiana did i…said, did I gave you details?"-- Please say no.
"No. Once you started speaking of your desire I convince you to go to your room"-
"Good job Georgiana"— Richard said looking at Darcy with anger.
"I am sorry for the situation i put you in but my problems Georgiana are mine alone"
"How dare you say that I have no right? Everyone in this House has been miserable because of you. You barely acknowledge me. You have yelled at two of my Masters both of them scare to run into you in the hallways. You have snapped at Mr. Matthews. I had to apologize on your behalf. Last night you drank two bottles of brandy and one ended in the fire place in pure rage. You're leaving the house in the middle of the night to go… It is my problem because it started to affect me"— she stated bitterly.
He passed both his hand over his face, it was bad. He never yells at his staff. He does not drink. But they did not understand his pain. He had to forget her and those damn words that torment him day and night. What if I had behaved badly? who are they to judge? I'm in all my rights. I am the master of this House. I can do as I please. His anger took the best of him.
"I believe you're forgetting your place, Georgiana"— He spat.
"Darcy watch your tone."— Richard said threateningly.
"I know my place brother. Trust me I've had a year to know my place."- She said with such bitterness it shock him.
"Georgie"— Richard said grabbing her hand. Why are they grabbing each other's hands?
"Richard, watch your hands."
"She is nothing more than a sister to me and we have been failing her."
"No Richard. I hear the whispers; I know what our family thinks of me. No one has failed me. I failed you, the family and myself."
"What does that mean Georgiana?"— He said a little too coldly.
"I'm talking how my family thinks I'm a stupid naive child who, with her wanton desires believed the words of a rake. Trust me everyone in this family has shown me my place"
Darcy was surprise at her words he had never reprimanded her for her actions in Ramsgate. He knew she was a victim of Wickham. She was nothing more than a girl. He turned around to look at Richard, who had his eyes closed and his head was shaking. What did he knew that I did not?
"Georgiana I never blamed you for Ramsgate, the evil one was Wickham. He took advantage of your kindness. You were nothing but a sweet girl who was left alone with a horrible man"— saying those words hurt him. He had failed her.
Georgiana's eyes filled with tears. –"Then why did you send me away? Why did you push me aside?"
"I did not"— He said mortified. He had comfort her, perhaps he hadn't done his best but he tried. He did everything that could bring her comfort.
"You left me with Aunt Helen for months. We were together for a week and then you were gone"
The headache from this morning was coming back.
"I thought it would be better if you had a female to guide you."
Georgina shook her head. "I only wanted my brother"— she wept.
Darcy ran to her and hugged her. –"Gigi I am sorry i thought that I was doing what it was best for you. I… sincerely Gigi sometimes… do not know what I'm doing. I was angry I was afraid that I would take it out on you, I wanted to hurt him, I didn't want to frighten you. The first thing I needed to do was make sure there was no repercussion. Aunt Helen convinced me that you would be better with them for a while in case there were rumors. I really believed I was doing the best for you."— He told her kissing her forehead while he rocked her.
"What has your mother been doing to her?"— He told Richard.
"I do not know everything, a few whispers from the maids and even from my own valet, we were away when she needed us the most. You know my parents duty and responsibility. I know mother punished her with silence for a while what my father did I do not know. However I did worn him to leave her alone"
He knew very well Uncle Edward had not respected that warning. Damn him why had he left, he could've taken her to Hertfordshire with him.
"Brother"— she said looking up at him.— "Last night you told me you were lonely. I know what it feels like. That is why I want to help you. Perhaps you're right, they're not my problems, but there is one that involves all of us."
"Which is?"— Richard asked confuse
The moment he looked at her he realize what she meant.
"Wickham"— she whispered.
"What does that snake have to do with anything?"
"Wickham knows Elizabeth"— she said
Richard turned around to look at him.
"When we were in Hertfordshire he joined the Militia. He started spreading the lies about his living, Elizabeth believed him"— he said with a pinch of pain. She believed that snake over him, he considered her brilliant yet she had failed to see Wickham in his true form. Don not judge her Darcy your father believed Wickham as well.
"Why would she? She seemed like a sensible woman"
"It is a long story."— He said shaking his head.
"What did you do?"— Richard asked
He shook his head.—"Why do you assume I did something?"
"Because I know you Darcy. Do not lie to me, if she believed Wickham is because you let her"
He let go of Georgiana and grabbed Richard from his collar. He let him go realizing immediately what he was doing.
"That is how you should've grabbed George, not me" – his cousin spat
"Stop! Fitz, we only want to help. Please tell us."
"I do not know if he deserves our help"—
"Richard that is enough go sit down over there"— Georgiana said pointing at a chair near the fire. She pulled Darcy into a settee on the other side.
"I cannot, you would think ill me."
"We already do. Just tell us I know something is troubling you and I also know that Elizabeth Bennet does not like you"
Richard words sting. Should he tell them? There's nothing to do. She already hates me. Would they think less of me, my behavior was deplorable, in the past days he has been reminiscing his proposal now he realized how awful it was. He insulted not only her but her family, he had broken his sister heart and his best friends. What would Bingley think of him when he discovers the truth? He should never know the truth, but they were in love. He could not keep them apart.
"It will ease the burden"— Richard said.
"Very well"— nothing bad could come from them knowing.
The first chapter, I hope you enjoy it.
