.

just to preface this whole thing, this is my first ever fanfiction, and i'm fully aware that there WILL be grammatical errors, and that the quality will be mediocre. that's ok with me, as long as the experience is ok. also, major spoilers for gates, and smaller spoilers for the other 3 games.

this fic takes a lot of inspiration from other PMD fics such as guiding light, warped skies, quenched torch, and a non PMD fic, seven and counting, which i just finished reading, and was the main inspiration, actually. big shoutouts to all of those fics, as they are all fantastic, (seriously go check them out.) ALSO; all names used in this chapter are fictional, and are not the actual names of people.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Loss of Identity, Chapter 1: The Accident

Feb 19 2021; somewhere in Canada

It had been a slow day at school for Ian. He had just gotten out of phys ed, and was exhausted. 3 hours of gym class does that to you. Ian walked out of the school, and towards the waiting spot for the bus.

"Hey" called a familiar voice.

"Oh hey William, What's up? How was math?" Ian said, as he walked towards their meetup spot, the garbage can.

"Not too bad. Rationals suck though."

"Oof. I actually got hit in the face with a soccer ball in the last 15 minutes or so of gym, so I had to sit on the sidelines. But hey, I got some time to look at my phone, so I mean, it could have been worse." he said, as the 2 of them stood in the cold.

The weather had been particularly cold all week, reaching as low as -40 at night. Thankfully, it was Canada, meaning it was a common enough occurrence that no one was unprepared, and life just went on despite it. It still made waiting for the bus stupid, however.

"You ok from that?" William said, a hint of concern in his voice "It didn't break your glasses or anything?"

"The only thing wrong with 'em is the fogging from my mask. and even then, its not that bad." Ian said nonchalantly, as he threw a small snowball into Williams' backpack.

The 2 of them continued to talk with each other, and their other friends as they waited for the bus to arrive. Eventually after about 15 minutes of waiting…

"Hey, there's our bus!" William called out.

"God, I can't wait to get home" Ian said, as he stepped onto the bus.

"Yeah, right? And as a bonus, we were gonna come hang out at my place this weekend, remember?" William said, as the 2 of them took their seats.

"Oh yeah. We were gonna start a Minecraft world on your 360?"

"Yeah. And, I'm honestly surprised the thing still even runs Minecraft after, what, 10 years now?"

"Even if the load times are ass." Ian said, as he wiped the condensation off of his glasses. The bus lurched forwards, and begun driving down the lane, eventually leaving to get on the road.

Ian took this chill time to check his phone. 'No new messages, and no pings on Discord either.' He thought, as he put on a song on Spotify, and popped in his earbuds. Ian then elected to dig through his backpack, and pulled out his 3ds. it was a nice purple and silver 2ds xl.

He started up Pokémon Ultra Moon, and once he was into his save file, opened up his pc.

'ah, the old team.' he thought, looking over his team. he had a Mawile he had caught a couple years ago in Pokémon x, who he had brought with him through every game since. its nickname, was Venus. it was one of his favorites, and one of his oldest Pokémon in the game.

Ian hadn't been paying attention, when as they crossed the bridge over the river, something happened.

At an incredible speed, something came flying out of the sky, towards the bus, almost as if it was aiming at it. no one could see what it was, but it was incredibly bright.

As it smashed into the side of the bus, it sent the bus flying into the river below, crashing through the thin sheet of ice. At this point, it was pandemonium. People were screaming, someone had been flung across to the opposite sides, a few kids had passed out, one had a large gash in their head from the wall of the bus.

Then it got worse

Once the bus had broken through the thin ice on the river, it began to sink into the frigid water, plunging into the water in mere seconds. Those left inside began to clamour and run for the emergency exits on the bus. the back door of the bus broke open, and freezing cold water, mixed with ice chunks began to flow into the bus from the back, swallowing anyone it so much as touched.

Everyone in the bus had been dragged into the watery blackness, and was either unconscious or dead.

Except for Ian.

As he sunk deeper into the water, the last thing he remembered before the cold took him completely, was something appearing in his vision, before it went black.

Ultra space

Mew wasn't having a very good day. She had been called by Necrozma to come help out with one of the worlds in ultra space, which had an Ultra Beast problem the last few days. Necrozma had needed an extra powerful psychic to help, and Mew was the first thing to come to mind. She hadn't been busy the last few years in Mystery Jungle, and because of this, she was still glad to get out, even if she wasn't gonna show it.

As she reached the portal she thought was correct, she recalled Necozmas words when requesting her help. 'I need you to barrel in as quickly as possible. OK?' She remembered Necrozma saying, as she flew through, coating herself in a protective barrier.

As she flew through, however, she didn't see anything like the described world. Instead, as she barreled towards the surface of the planet, she saw a snowy town, next to a frozen river. However, due to her lack of experience with human civilizations, she thought that the wheeled objects on the bridge were ultra beasts, and she smashed into the big yellow one, sending it into the river below.

The moment she sensed not one, but about 15 life forces inside, she realized what had happened, and quickly flew down to the sinking wreckage to investigate. Because of the collision, most of the people inside had died, except one. a tall, teenager in the bus still had some life force left. She quickly took the human, wrapped him in a psychic shield, and stopped his life force from leaving him.

Her medical knowledge was extremely sparse, especially for humans, so to save the innocent survivor of the wreck, she decided on something she hadn't done for almost 6 years now.

She took out a very small piece of her flesh, and due to her DNA containing the DNA of every species of Pokémon, she quickly forged the small piece of herself into a small, brown Pokémon, and once it was ready, she moved the soul from the human into the small brown Pokémon, before wrapping it in a psychic shield, and opening a portal into ultra space yet again.

Mew flew into the portal, closing it behind her, and quickly flew back to her world. Once she reached the portal, she tossed the unconscious Pokémon into the portal, before flying back towards her original destination.

The human would be fine, right? Only time would tell...

And that's chapter 1! We have a setup, a main protagonist, what's not to love? Oh… my lack of writing skill… ok.

Big thanks to Digital_Acid for beta reading.
