A/N: I do not own any of these characters. This is my very first fanfic! So please feel free to leave your thoughts in the comment section. Happy reading!
Olivia Benson had a lot on her mind. Sure, most of the time she does with her case load, making sure the victims always have a voice, her detectives are directed where they should be, making sure her son is healthy and happy. But tonight, all she could think about was what her therapist had told her. Either attempt to do something or let him go. Elliot. There's so much there, so much unspoken, so much history. She had been giving him his space, especially after Kathy. But now, she felt like it was time. She had to talk. She had to talk to him. So, she did what she does best. Sitting outside his apartment, with coffee, she shoots him a text.
El? You got a minute?
She waits for the ding of the notification, taking a sip of the hot brew. Sure enough, her phone dinged.
Sure, where are you?
She texts him back and waits for the sound of the door to open behind her. So many times she's done this. Showing up at his place, coffee in hand, looking forward to the late night talks that ensued. So much has changed and so much has stayed the same.
The door opens, and the familiar footsteps come to a halt beside her, and she automatically stretches out her hand to him, and he takes the coffee as he sits beside her. For a moment they sit in silence, comfortable in each other's presence. It had gotten easier in recent months for Olivia, just the act of being with him, and letting the unspoken pass between them. But she couldn't no longer.
Elliot's POV
"So what's up Liv? What's with the late night visit?" Elliot was wondering when this was going to come about. He had hoped their talk would happen sooner, but it was like time wasn't really on their side. It just hadn't been the right time. And with all the undercover work and his family problems, not to mention his own issues, he'd gotten caught up. And through it all she had been there. She always had been. Even when they were partners, and even when he had left. He always kept her locked up in a special box in his mind, just for him and him alone. And as much as he wanted to contact her throughout all of those years, he couldn't and make his marriage and family work. And he had to make it work. But now, there was nothing standing between them and this talk. No undercover work, no family issues at present, his PTSD was better and Kathy was gone. And he knew, in his heart of hearts, that this talk has been long overdue. He was going to make sure that she knew the he was all in.
Olivia POV
"I want to talk. I want to talk about this." Olivia saw no reason for small talk at this moment. She knew she had to get it out and get to the point. Part of her was terrified at the thought of letting him in again. It was time and she knew it. Elliot was silent for a moment, and then he spoke. "I want to know about you. What's happened in your life, about your son- just start with telling me about you." Olivia pondered where to begin. Apparently she had been quiet for too long, because Elliot spoke up, "I have been wondering, ummm, who was Ed? I know that you said he passed away..." Olivia did not feel comfortable with this starting point, so she gave her nervous/awkward chuckle and started.
