"Ben!" Adam yelled from the bottom of the staircase. "The Beauty's are going to be waiting for us, and we don't want to be late."
"I'm coming," Ben said as he ran down the stairs. "I'm sorry, papa. I was just trying to make a good impression for my first royal meeting."
Adam smiled down at Ben, before he straightened his tie. "You are going to be fine, Ben. You're 13. I don't expect you to even pay attention in the meeting."
Ben chuckled before following his dad out to the limo. The meeting today was just a routine check over, and Audrey was going to be there too. At least Ben wasn't going to be bored and alone by himself. The ride there was fine, and mainly Adam telling Ben not to worry. Once the limo came to a halt, Ben took a deep breath before following his dad out of the limo.
"Hello, King Adam and Prince Ben," Aurora said as she gave them a kind smile. "I am so happy that you both were about to make it today. I hope your travels were good."
"They were, thank you, Queen Aurora," Adam said as he bowed to the queen.
"Please, come in," she said as she moved to the side to let them enter the castle. "Phillip will join us shortly, and Audrey is getting ready to visit the Moors," she said, making Ben snap his head in her direction.
"I thought Audrey was going to be joining us in the meeting?" Ben asked as he looked at Aurora with a confused look.
"She was, but she was told that my sister was going to be coming home today, so she asked if she could go and visit her and her grandmother today," she said, making Ben understand.
Audrey would talk nonstop about her aunt Mal. Ben felt like he knew more about Mal than he did Audrey, which is saying a lot because he had never met or even seen her. There were points when he thought Mal was a figment of Audrey's imagination, but after Aurora confirmed that Mal was in fact a real person, he stopped thinking that way.
"I see," Ben said as he looked down and pouted a bit.
He didn't want to be in the meeting alone, after hearing that his friend was going to be there with him, but he knew how excited Audrey got every time she talked about her aunt.
"If you would like to say hello, before she leaves, she is in the den," she said as she pointed to the den.
"I would," Ben said as he gave her a kind smile. "Thank you very much, your majesty."
Ben walked away from the two adults, before walking into the den to see Audrey wearing a pair of pink shorts and a blue t-shirt.
"Hey, Ben!" Audrey said as she turned to see her friend walking into the den. "How are you?"
"I would be better if you weren't ditching me today," he said in a teasing voice.
"I am sorry," she said as she picked up a big Tupperware full of ripe strawberries and placed them into her backpack. "But my aunt is coming home today, and I can't wait to see her."
"I know, your mom just told me," Ben said as he sat down next to her backpack. "I'm just bummed that I am going to be alone, listening to boring kingdom stuff."
"Want to come with me?" She asked as she looked at him.
"You want me to go to the Moors with you?" He asked. "I can't. I have to stay for this meeting, and I am not dressed for the Moors."
"The Moors doesn't have a dress code, and I am sure if I ask your dad he is going to say yes," she said as she smirked.
She walked toward the entrance of the den, before finding Adam, her mother, and her father walking toward Phillip's office, and Ben was hot on her heels.
"I am sorry to bother you, your majesty," Audrey called, making Adam and her parents turn to her.
"Oh," Adam said as he looked down and saw his son's friend quickly walking toward them. "Hello, Princess Audrey. It is very nice to see you."
"It is very nice to see you as well," she said as she gave him a small smile and bow. "I hope you and Queen Belle are well."
"We are fine," he said as he smiled down at her.
"I am so happy to hear," she said. "I was coming to ask you if it would be okay if Ben joined me on my journey to the Moors this afternoon?" she asked. "I know that Ben is supposed to be sitting in on this meeting, but would it be okay if he played hooky with me today?"
Adam looked at Ben, before smiling and nodding his head. Ben gave him a bright smile. A smile almost thanking him for letting him go.
"Of course," Adam said. "You both go and have fun," Adam said as he smiled at his son. "Like I said before we left, you're 13."
"Thank you, papa," Ben said.
A loud sound, that sounded like lightning, made everyone freeze, but Audrey grew a smile on her face that could make anyone's face hurt.
"She's back," Audrey said as she started to bounce in place.
"Go on," Aurora said as she shooed them away. "Have fun, and tell my mom and sister that family game night is tomorrow."
"Okay, mom," Audrey said before she grabbed Ben's wrist and pulled him back into the den to grab her backpack. "You can leave your coat and tie here if you want, and I remember that you and Chad accidentally left some clothes and shoes here from the last time we had one of our group sleepovers," Audrey said as she started to walk toward the den closet. "I know it would probably make you more comfortable if you weren't wearing a suit and dress shoes."
Ben nodded before he followed her and untied his tie. She handed him a pair of tennis shoes that he had been looking for for weeks, and a pair of jeans. His shirt would be fine, but he was thankful that the Beauty's had kept their stuff here. He went to the restroom to change, and when he walked back into the den he placed his other clothes nicely on the chair. He unbuttoned the two top buttons of his shirt, before Audrey pulled him out of the room, and out the back of the castle. They walked faster than normal, but that was because Ben was trying to keep up with Audrey. When they got near the woods, they found themselves in front of a wall of thrones. The ground started to quake, making Ben try to stabilize himself. When he looked up, he saw a giant tree warrior looking down at them, before he knelt down in front of Ben and Audrey, and Ben swallowed in fear.
"Hello, Balthazar," Audrey said as she smiled up at the creature. "May my friend and I enter to see my grandmother and aunt?" She asked.
The tree warrior bowed its head before moving and clearing the path that led to the inside of the Moors. Audrey smiled as she started to walk toward the entrance, but stopped when she saw Ben staring at Balthazar in amazement.
"Come on, Ben," she said.
Ben nodded his head slowly, before following Audrey through the entry. When they got deeper into the forest everything started to change. Flowers started to glow bright, wind started to blow making the beautiful smells invade Ben's nose, creatures started to come out of the trees and fly around the two teenagers. This was like nothing Ben had ever seen, and he was amazed.
"Hello, my little rose," they heard someone say, and when Ben turned to see who it was he saw that it was Maleficent.
He was in awe at how beautiful she was. Her long brown hair that landed past her waist, her glowing green eyes, her high cheekbones, her cherry red lip, her magnificent horns, but most importantly her beautiful brown wings.
"Hello, grandmother," Audrey said as she walked up to the fairy and wrapped her arms around her waist. "I came for a visit, and I brought a friend."
"I can see that," Maleficent said as she looked back at the young prince. "Hello, Prince Benjamin. It is very nice to meet you. I am Maleficent."
Ben had to swallow the lump in his throat, before he walked forward and bowed to her.
"Hello, Queen Maleficent," he said before he looked back up and straightened his posture. "It is very nice to meet you."
"The pleasure is mine, and welcome to the Moors," she said as he held her hands out, and before looking back at her granddaughter. "And I can see my granddaughter is getting impatient," she said as she shifted her eyes to Audrey. "She is in her spot."
Audrey wasted no time in sprinting away from her grandmother and Ben, making Maleficent chuckle.
"You may want to catch up," Maleficent said, making Ben look at her. "She is fast and I wouldn't want you to get lost."
"Thank you," Ben said as he gave Maleficent a nod. "It was a joy to meet you."
"As well as you, Prince Benjamin."
"Please," he said. "You may call me Ben."
"Very well," she said before she nodded to him. "Now, hurry along."
Ben smiled before he sprinted after Audrey. He could hear her footsteps as she ran, breaking twigs and crunching leaves with every step.
"Mal!" He heard Audrey exclaim as he kept running.
He heard giggling coming from a couple of yards away, and when it got closer he found himself standing in a clearing that was so beautiful. There was a waterfall with a small river that flowed through the forest. The grass was the color of green Christmas trees, there were creatures playing in the water, and then he saw Audrey laying on someone and giving them a gigantic hug.
"I have missed you so much," Audrey said as she pushed up on her arms to look down at her aunt.
"I was only gone for two months," her aunt said as she sat up.
Ben froze. He didn't see her face, but she had purple and blue hair, making him think that she is younger than he originally thought.
"And that is too long," Audrey retorted back.
"Then take it up with my dad," Mal said as she stood up to clean off her bark blue dress.
"I will," Audrey said. "I'm not afraid of him."
Mal laughed out loud as she threw her head back. "Then you are the only person, other than my mom and I, who are not afraid of the god of death."
Ben's eyes widened in shock after hearing that. Audrey's aunt was the daughter of Maleficent and of Hades. What a girl she must be. Audrey looked past Mal and saw Ben standing there looking like a deer caught in the headlights.
"Mal," she said as she walked past her aunt to walk toward Ben. "This is one of my closest friends, Ben."
Mal turned to face the prince and when she did, Ben's heart did a flip in his chest. He thought that Maleficent was beautiful, but Mal was absolutely heart stopping. She had pale skin like her mother, bright green eyes, plump pink lips, a button nose, and her hair was lightly curled.
"Hi," Mal said as she walked up to the prince. "I am Mal. I have heard so much about you," she said as she held her hand out for Ben to chair.
He was frozen until Audrey nudged his ribs. He held his hand out, and took Mal's hand to shake it. "It is very nice to meet you too," he told her as he gazed into her glorious green eyes. "I'm Ben, and I have heard so much about you as well."
"I hope they were all good," she said as she looked at her niece.
"They were nothing but beautiful talks about you," he said, making Mal flush just a tad.
Audrey looked between the two, and was confused at first, but then realized that this was something different. A good different too.
"So," Audrey said as she kicked her feet back and forth in the little canal. "Are you going to be attending Auradon Prep with your favorite niece?" She asked as she gave Mal a bright and tight smile.
Ben was sitting across from Mal and Audrey. He didn't know what love at first sight felt like, but he was sure that he felt it when he saw Mal for the first time. They had been in the Moors for a couple of hours, and he was pretty sure that his dad had gone home by now, but he didn't care. He was getting to know the most enchanting girl he had ever met in his life. He learned that she loved to draw and paint. She had even showed him her sketchbook, and he couldn't believe the amount of detail that she put into her work. She was truly amazing at it. He had also learned that she has both godly magic and fae magic. She didn't have wings like her mother, but she could teleport. She could do all sorts of things. She could create a fireball in her hand, heal plants, talk to the creatures of the Moors, she could make plants evolve and grow, and so much more. Whenever she talked, he would get lost in the sound of her voice. She sounded like an angel, but that was an understatement because she was a goddess and fae. He was so entranced by her that whenever she would talk to him, his brain would turn into mush, and he couldn't speak for a second because he was at a loss for words.
"I don't know," Mal said as she shrugged her shoulders. "And to correct you, you are my only niece."
"Doesn't change that fact that I am your favorite," Audrey said, making Mal chuckle. "When will you know if you're going to be coming to school in Auradon? You have been homeschooled for too long."
"Being homeschooled isn't bad," Mal said as she looked at her niece. "Do you think being homeschooled is bad, Ben?" She asked as she looked over at Ben.
Ben froze for a minute as Mal looked at him, before he shook his head. "No," he said, trying to sound like he wasn't getting lost while he stared at the purple haired girl. "It's not a bad thing to be homeschooled."
"See," Mal said as she turned to look back at her niece.
"Oh, what does he know?" Audrey asked as she waved her hand at Ben, making both him and Mal laugh. "Your cousins are going to be attending Auradon Prep. Haley is even going to try out for the cheerleading squad with me."
"And I am assuming that you're going to make me try out when we go to our orientation and to get our dorms?" She asked as she raised her eyebrow at her, and only made Ben react to her surprise.
"Obviously!" Audrey said, completely missing what Mal had just said. "You expect me to just not make you… wait what?!"
Mal started to laugh at Audrey's state of shock. She had known since before she left to the Underworld that she would be attending Auradon Prep with the rest of her family. She just wanted to keep it a secret from Audrey, until she got home, so that she could surprise Audrey about the fact that she wasn't going to be leaving for long periods of time again.
"You're going to be attending Auradon Prep?!"
Mal nodded her head, before Audrey tackled her to the ground. Ben smiled at the aunt and niece interaction, and he was happy that he didn't attend the meeting after all, and for more than just one reason.
"Oh my gods!" Audrey exclaimed. "I'm so happy! You're not going to be leaving again."
"I'm going to be leaving for visits, but they won't be for long periods of time, maybe a day or two," Mal said as Audrey finally let her sit up again.
"That's better than two months," she said as she started to bounce on her knees. "We're going to have so much fun! And you can finally meet all of my friends," she added.
"That's very true," Mal said as she smiled at Audrey. "There is Prince Chad, Jane, Lonnie, Princess Ruby, Doug, Prince Aziz, Prince Ryder, Jordan, and Prince Ben," she said as she turned to look at Ben and gave him a sweet smirk that made his cheeks turn pink.
"Mainly Jane, Lonnie, Jordan, and Ruby," she said as she waved her hand. "But, you can also try out for cheer with me too!"
"I don't know about that one," Mal said as she shook her head. "I'm not the RA RA type," she said as she pumped her fist in the air.
"Come on! You have to!" Audrey begged as she pulled at Mal's arm. "Ben. Tell Mal she has to try out for cheerleading."
Ben looked at his friend in shock. He didn't want to take sides or make either of them mad, especially since he thought Mal was really cute.
"I am not telling her what to do," he said as he shook his head.
"Smart," Mal said as she pointed at him. "Very smart choice."
Ben nodded and smiled at her, before Audrey groaned.
"He is only saying that because he thinks you are cute," she said.
"And that is my cue to leave," Ben said as he stood up, making the girls laugh. "Mal, it was very nice to meet you, and if you will both excuse me. I am going to jump off a cliff now," he said, making both of them laugh harder.
"Oh shut up," Audrey said as she pulled his sleeve. "Sit back down."
"It's fine, Ben," Mal said. "Please stay. Don't let her embarrass you."
Ben's cheeks flushed red as he sat back down. Yes, he thought Mal was cute, but he didn't think that he was making it obvious, or that Audrey was going to burst out and say it.
"Anyway," Audrey said as she sat on her knees. "About cheer…"
"I am not going to be making any promises," Mal said as she held her hands out. "But I am hoping that they have an art club."
"They do," Ben said as he nodded his head. "My aunt Jen said that Auradon Prep has a lot of extra curricular activities."
"Like what?" Mal asked, giving Ben her full attention.
"Um… well," he said, trying not to let his throat get dry. "Sports… clubs… student council… tutoring… and other stuff," he stuttered.
"I understand that," she said with a small chuckle. "But can you elaborate?"
"Sorry," he said with a nervous tone. "Tourney and ROAR are some of the sports."
"And the sports that he is going to be trying out for, and is going to be making," Audrey said as she looked at Ben with a pointed look.
"We don't know that," Ben said as he looked at Audrey. "I could not be good enough for the team."
"Says the fastest guy I have ever met," she said.
"I'm not…"
"Race me," Mal said, making Ben look at her.
"What?" Ben asked.
"Come on," she said as she stood up and pulled at his arm. "Race me. First one to the edge of the forest and back wins"
"You're wearing a dress," Ben said as he held his hand out to her.
Mal raised her eyebrow, before lifting her hand up, consuming herself in purple smoke. When it cleared, she was standing there in a pair of black shorts and a blue tank top.
"Where?" She asked, making Ben and Audrey laugh. "I'm wearing shorts and a tank top. Now," she said as she started to tie her hair up into a ponytail. "Do you want to lose with dignity or do you want me to just smoke you?"
Ben squinted his eyes before he rolled up his sleeves, making Mal smirk at him.
"Okay," Audrey said as she stood up and walked in front of Mal and Ben. "On three."
Ben and Mal stood side by side, ready for Audrey to say go.
"One… two… THREE!" Audrey yelled.
Both Ben and Mal rushed past Audrey, racing to the edge of the forest. Ben had to admit that Mal was fast but he was faster. He started to speed up, making Mal look at him as he passed by. He reached the edge of the forest, before turning back and before Mal tackled him to the ground.
"What are you doing?" He asked as he started to laugh.
"I told you I was going to smoke you, and I am," she said as she got up and started to run back toward Audrey, who was on the floor laughing.
Ben quickly got up, and rushed after her, now in a haste to win. She was ahead of him, but he was gaining on her, and when he was close enough, he scooped her up and threw her over his shoulder.
"AH!" She screamed as she wrapped her arms around his waist so she didn't fall. "Put me down."
"No," he said as he continued to rub. "You cheated."
"If you're not cheating, you're not trying," she said, making Ben chuckle.
He finished the race, with Mal now on his back, and Audrey was still on the floor laughing.
"I am so glad that you find this amusing," Mal said as Ben stopped and placed her on her feet.
"I would say I'm sorry, but I'm not," Audrey said as she shook her head. "Ben doesn't like when people cheat."
"It's true," he said as he shrugged and smiled at Mal. "But, I will let it slide."
"Aw," Mal said as she batted her eyelashes at him. "Is it because you think I'm cute?"
Ben's cheeks flushed red again, making Mal chuckle. "Um," he said as he started to point around. "Where was that cliff again?"
Chip came to pick up Ben on his way home from his girlfriend's house, and noticed Ben's smile.
"What's got you all smiles?" Chip asked as he peaked to look at his younger brother.
"Nothing," Ben said as he shook his head, and tried to hide his red cheeks.
"Benji, Benji, Benji," Chip said as he shoved Ben's leg. "When are you going to realize that you are a horrible liar, and you are never going to be able to hide anything from me?"
"Well, hopefully one day," Ben said.
"And that day is not today, so spill," he said.
"Fine," Ben groaned. "So, I went to the Moors today with Audrey."
"Hence why the extra clothes."
"Yes, but I also met Audrey's grandmother and aunt," he said as his cheeks flush.
"Okay?" Chap said in confusion. "And how did that go?"
"Very good," he said with a smile. "Queen Maleficent is very nice and beautiful, and her aunt… she's…" he started. "She's like no one I have ever met."
"Does my little brother have his first crush?" Chip asked, making Ben's cheeks flushed even more red.
"Well, seeing that I can't lie to you," he started. "Yeah. I think I do."
"Tell me about her!" Chip said eagerly. "What is she like? Who has captivated my brother's heart?"
"Her name is Mal," Ben started. "She is, obviously, the daughter of Maleficent, but she is also the daughter of Hades."
"And the plot thickens," Chip said with a grin on his face. "She sounds interesting. Tell me more."
"She is way more than just interesting," Ben said. "She is amazing. She is an amazing artist, she is fast, she has all sorts of powers, and I caught her singing and she is amazing at that too," he said as he started to ramble on about the amazing girl he had met. "She is gorgeous too. She has beautiful green eyes, full pink lips, her skin is so soft, and she has purple and blue hair.."
"Purple and blue hair?" Chip asked. "She sounds spunky."
"She is," Ben said as he laughed. "Audrey was telling her that I am trying out for tourney, and how fast I am."
"Which is true," Chip chimed in.
"Okay, but anyway," he said, getting back to what he was saying. "I was trying to explain to Audrey and Mal that I am not fast…"
"Which is a lie."
Ben laughed and shook his head as Chip kept interrupting him. "BUT," Ben said as he turned to Chip, making him laugh. "Mal told me to race her. It was a back and forth battle between the two of us, until she poked me and we raced."
"Who won?"
"I did, but Mal tried to cheat."
"What?" Chip asked as he started to laugh.
"Yeah," he said as he nodded his head. "When I got to the edge of the forest and turned around, she tackled me to the ground."
"She what?" Chip asked in astonishment.
"She would probably like for you to stop interrupting me."
"Okay, Beastie jr. Okay," Chip said. "Keep your fur on."
"Anyway," Ben said as he continued his story. "I got up and ran after her, and before she won, I scooped her up and threw her over my shoulder."
"Atta boy, Ben!" Chip exclaimed. "Sweeping the ladies, literally, off their feet. I'm so proud," he said as he leaned over and started to ruffle Ben's hair.
"Keep your hands on the steering wheel!" Ben shouted as he pushed Chip's hand away. "You're going to get us killed."
Chip shook his head and chuckled as he put both hands on the wheel. He was happy that his brother was forming a crush on someone. Ben needed to be normal for as long as he could, before he had to begin king preparation.
"So…" Audrey teased as she, Mal, and Maleficent walked into Beauty castle.
"So what?" Mal asked.
"I think she is asking what you think about our future king, and his new infatuation with you," Maleficent said, making Mal turn her head at her mother.
"He does not," Mal said as her cheeks stoked pink.
"I don't know," Audrey cooed. "I have never seen him get that nervous around a girl before."
"He never got nervous around you, or any of your other girl friends?"
"Nope," Audrey said as she pushed the giant wood door open. "He is normally cool as a cucumber around us."
"He did seem a little entranced by you," Maleficent said as the giant wood door closed behind her. "And it's normal too, not only for him, but for you to start liking people too."
"Dad says I am too young," Mal said, making her mother shake her head.
"Your father is immortal," her mother said. "He has lived longer than all of us."
"It's true," Audrey said. "He's ancient."
Mal shook her head and laughed, before walking into the dining room to see her sister and brother-in-law.
"Hello, sister," Aurora said as she smiled at Mal. "It's good to have you home."
Mal ran over to Aurora with open arms. They had such a close bond as sisters, even though Mal and Audrey were the same age. She not only created a bond with Audrey while she was pregnant, but with her mom being pregnant at the same time, she created a bond with her sister as well.
"It's good to be home," Mal said as she hugged her sister tightly. "And it's good knowing that I won't be leaving for months at a time."
"I know. How did Audrey take the surprise?" She asked as she peeked up at her daughter.
"You knew?" Audrey asked as she put her hands on her hips. "And you didn't tell me?"
"That defeats the purpose of a surprise," Phillip said as he walked up to Mal and Aurora. "Welcome home, Mal," he said as he walked up and kissed her on top of the head.
Mal squinted her eyes at Phillip, before pointing up at him. "Don't think I forgot about our rematch," she said, making him chuckle. "I will be ready, sword in hand, waiting for you."
"We have plenty of time," he said as he smiled down at her. "But now it's time for dinner, and then we will finalize yours and Audrey's papers for school."
"And not to mention my sleepover with my friends!" Audrey exclaimed.
"How could I forget," Phillip said. "A castle full of teenagers."
"And more, because I am going to be inviting a couple more."
"Who?"
"Lonnie, Chad, Doug, Jane, Jordan, Ally, Haley, Herkie, Ryder, Aziz, Ruby, Ariana, Emma, Kristen, and Ben," she said as she looked over at Mal after saying Ben's name.
Mal shook her head and rolled her eyes, making Aurora, Phillip, and Maleficent laugh and shake their heads.
"I am assuming there is something we are missing?" Aurora asked as she walked over to her mother.
"Most definitely," Maleficent said, smiling as she watched Audrey tease Mal about Ben.
"Come on!" Audrey whined as she pulled Mal's arm, trying to get her to walk up the stairs.
"Audrey, I want to go to bed," Mal whined back. "I have had a long day, and my mom is going to go back to the Moors in a bit."
"You act like you don't have a room here," Audrey said as she moved around Mal to start pushing her up the stairs.
"I understand that, but I would like to sleep in my bed."
"You can sleep in your bed here," Audrey said as she and Mal made their way up to Audrey's room. "Now," she said as they walked into her room, and she closed the door behind them. "Let's have a talk."
"About what?"
"School, Ben, cheer tryouts, Ben, the sleepover, Ben, if you want to share a dorm, Ben, school activities you want to do, Ben," Audrey said, making Mal throw herself onto the bed.
"So, you want to share a dorm?" Mal asked as she pulled her head up to look at Audrey.
"I WANT TO TALK ABOUT BEN!" She exclaimed as she jumped on Mal, making her laugh.
"What about him?"
"Do you like him?"
"Yeah," Mal said as she nodded her head. "He's cool."
"You know what I mean!" Audrey said as she started to shake Mal.
"You want to know if I have a crush on him?"
"No," Audrey said sarcastically. "I want to know if you think he's ugly. Yes, I want to know if you have a crush on him!"
Mal shook her head, before she sighed. "Yeah, I think I do," she said, making Audrey squeal in excitement. "He's really nice."
"Son of Belle, what do you expect," Audrey said.
"Also, son of the Beast," Mal said. "Maybe someone short tempered?"
"I mean he could be, but when he does he feels bad right after he unleashes it."
"Understable," Mal said. "He seems very appropriate for his age."
"He's always like that," Audrey said as she shook her head. "He is always in the spotlight of Auradon, he wants to paint a good picture of himself, with him becoming king in 3 years."
"He's thirteen," Mal said. "He should be able to be a teenager."
"His parents think so too, but he wants to make them proud."
"I can relate," Mal said. "That's all I want. I want to make both of my parents proud."
"You do," Audrey said as she nudged Mal's shoulder. "But, now that I know you like Ben and I got what I wanted, let's talk about the sleepover."
Mal shook her head and laughed. She knew now that at the sleepover, Audrey was going to try to push her and Ben together, but if they both felt the same way, she wanted things to fall into place.
"What about it?" Mal asked.
"Well, one thing before we start this," she said as she sprang up from the bed and walked to her closet. "I want to give this to you before I forget."
Audrey walked out of her closet, with a small box in her hands. It was wrapped in dark blue wrapping paper and a purple bow on top.
"Here," she said as she held the gift out to Mal.
"What is it?" Mal asked as she gave the box a weird look.
"Can I give you a gift without you asking me what it is before you open it?"
"You know I can't make that promise," she said as she took the box in her hand. "Nothing better jump out at me."
"Just open it," Audrey ordered as she stomped her foot on the ground.
Mal laughed as she ripped the paper off the box, and she was surprised to see a cell phone box. It was a purple iPhone, and it was her first phone.
"You got me a phone?" Mal asked as she looked up at her niece.
"Mom and dad bought the phone, but it's a welcome home present from me so we can talk whenever."
"Even though we're going to be going to the same school?" Mal asked in amusement.
"That was before I knew you were going to Auradon Prep!"
"Fair enough," Mal said as she put the box down and hugged Audrey. "Thank you."
"You're welcome," Audrey said as she wrapped her arms around Mal's waist. "Now, before we get to talking about the sleepover, I want to show you how I set the phone up."
Audrey pulled away from her aunt, walked over to the bed, and picked up the box. She took the top of the box off and showed Mal her Home Screen.
"You put a picture of you as the picture?" Mal asked as she started to laugh.
"Duh!" Audrey said it was the most obvious thing in the world. "But anyway, I already put mom and dad's number, along with mine, your mom's new number because we got her a phone too, I also added my friend's numbers that you are going to meet at the sleepover, and Ben's," she said as she teased Mal and nudged her with her elbow. "I bet you'll be using that one a lot."
"Okay, moving on," Mal said as she took the phone from Audrey's hand. "You said you wanted to send magical invitations?"
"Yes!" Audrey exclaimed.
"What do you mean by magical?"
"I'm not sure. I'm not the one with magic."
"So you want me to send them?" She asked.
"Well seeing as I am your favorite niece…"
"Audrey, you are my only niece," Mal said as she flopped on the bed and held her hand out. "Give me the invitations."
Audrey ran over to her desk, picked up the invitations that she had ready, and quickly gave them to Mal.
"Let me think," Mal said as she sat up and held the invitations in front of her. "Fluttering friends, please assist. Take the trip, without a haste."
Little multicolored butterflies appeared around Mal's hands, making her smile. Three each picked up an invitation, before they flew out of the window one by one.
"There they go," Mal said as she and Audrey watched the butterflies fly in different directions. "Everyone should be receiving their invitations soon."
Across the land, at Beast castle, Ben was in his room, making a list of everything he wanted to prepare to pack for school. He was sitting at his desk, when the door opened to his balcony, making him turn around. He saw three glowing butterflies fly into his room with what looked like a letter. They flew over his bed, before they landed in it. He walked over and he saw the beauty crest stamped on the seal. When he reached for the letter, the butterflies flew up before turning into glitter, and falling onto his bed. He opened the envelope and smiled at the invitation. Audrey had these sleepovers ever since they were 8, but what made him smile about this specific invitation was because this was Audrey AND Mal's sleepover.
Hello Friends!
You are invited to a last night of summer sleepover at Castle Beauty, hosted by Princess Audrey Beauty and Princess Mallory Drakos!
Come join us for a night of movies, games, and fun memories to make. We're going to be spending the next 5 years together! Let's get this party started!
"Are you excited?" Belle asked as she looked over at Ben.
"Yeah," he said as he nodded his head eagerly. "I'm excited to see all of my friends at once."
"So, not just the girl Chip told us about two weeks ago?" Adam asked as he looked up from his phone, and just in time to see Ben's cheeks flush red.
"Um… no," Ben said, trying to play himself off.
"She is going to be there right?" Belle asked. "The invitation says Mallory, but I don't know if she is going to be there for sure."
"Knowing how stubborn and persistent Audrey is, she'll be there," Ben said as he laughed.
"Well, I can't wait to meet her," Belle said. "It's nice to have a crush."
"It's so weird, knowing you like girls now, cub," Adam said.
"What do you mean?"
"Not that it's a bad thing, because it's not," Adam said, before he started to explain himself. "I'm saying it because I'm your dad, and I still see you as my baby boy."
"I'm 13," Ben said.
"You will always be our baby boy," Belle said as she turned her body to look at him.
Ben smiled at his mom, before he turned his head and saw that they were close to Beauty Castle. He started to get a little nervous. He hadn't seen Mal in two weeks, and she was all he could think about. But, he was mainly nervous because his parents were going to be staying, which means that they were going to meet her.
Adam pulled up to the castle just as Queen Ella, King Henry, and Chad were getting there.
"Hey, Ben!" Chad yelled as he jogged over to his friend. "Are you excited for tonight?"
"Yeah," Ben said as he nodded his head. "I thought Janey was coming with you."
"She's already here," Ella said as she walked over with a soft smile on her face. "Aunt Jen was going to come with us, but Audrey asked her if she would come early to help set up, and knowing how much Jane loves to organize events, she was more than eager to come."
"That girl would plan the Christmas Ball if she could," Adam said, making everyone laugh. "But, let's head inside, so the kids can have some fun."
They walked into the castle, and were greeted by a slightly tired Phillip.
"You look tired," Adam said as he and Henry walked up to him.
"Try having two 13 year olds wake you up at the buttcrack of dawn to make you inflate 9 air mattresses."
"How many kids are coming?" Ella asked.
"Including Audrey, Mal, and Jane. 17," Phillip said.
"What a fun evening you are going to have," Henry laughed as he patted Phillip's shoulder. "I'm so upset to be missing it."
"You are more than…"
"Ella! I think Chad is in…"
"Oh, dear brother of mine," a voice said that made Ben's cheeks turn red. "Do you have… oh hey!" Mal said as she saw Ben, his parents, a blonde boy, and another couple in front of Phillip. "I have met Ben, but not the rest of you, though I do know what the king and queen look like," she said as she smiled brightly at them and gave a quick bow. "I am Mal, Aurora's sister."
"Mal," Adam said in an upbeat tone. "We have heard so much about you," he said as he held his hand out to her. "I am King Adam, it's very nice to meet you."
"You as well," she said. "And it is very nice to be meeting you, Queen Belle."
"It is a joy to be meeting you, and may I say you are very polite," Belle said as she smiled at the purple haired girl. "And I love your hair. Did you recently get it done?"
"No," Mal said as she shook her head and chuckled. "This may sound a little weird, but it grows like this."
"Really?" Belle asked in astonishment. "That is fascinating, and it looks beautiful too."
"Thank you," she said as her cheeks flushed a little red. "I'm sorry," she said as she turned her attention to the other boy and the adults.
"No apologies necessary," Elle said. "I am Queen Ella, this is my husband Henry, and our son Chad," she said as she gestured toward Chad.
"Hello," she said as she smiled at the boys. "It's very nice to meet you."
"You as well," Henry said. "Now, why don't you kids run along, while Adam and I help Phillip for the next 20 minutes before we leave."
"That would be much appreciated," Phillip said. "What were you coming to ask me, Mal?"
"Oh! Right. Audrey was looking for the lanterns that we had out for my birthday last year, do you have any idea where they are?"
"They are in the attic, and we are not putting them up because I am not getting on the ladder again," he said.
"Do you forget that I can fly?" Mal asked as she looked at her brother-in-law. "I may not have wings, but I am a demigod."
"Well…" he started, but then stopped when Mal snapped her fingers and left in a puff of purple smoke. "And she is gone," he said as everyone laughed.
"She seems sassy," Belle said with a chuckle.
"She is, but she's amazing," Phillip said. "Now, let's head into the ballroom. Aurora, her mother, Audrey, and Jane are getting things ready there."
The 6 followed Phillip into the ballroom, but everyone froze when they saw Mal floating in the air as she was hanging lanterns around the ceiling.
"How…"
"I stopped asking questions when she was 3," Phillip said as he shook his head.
"Why, hello," Aurora said, making everyone turn to her.
Everyone saw Aurora smiling at them, but stopped when Maleficent turned to them. She had her long brown hair pulled into a halfback, she was wearing a pair of brown high waist pants, and a light brown shirt. Her horns were still coming out of the top of her head, and her shirt was made to fit her wings.
"Hello," Maleficent said as she smiled at the royals. "It's very nice to see you. I am Maleficent, Mal's and Aurora's mother."
"Hello," Belle said with a warm smile, being the first of them to say anything. "It's very nice to meet you."
"You as well," Maleficent said as she gave the queen a small bow. "Along with you King Adam, King Kit, Queen Ella, and Prince Chad. And I have already met the dashing Prince Ben," she said as she looked at Ben and gave him a smile.
Ben was too busy watching Mal as she floated around the room, not realizing that people were talking to him. Chad nudged his ribs, making Ben turn his attention back to the adults.
"Sorry, what?" He said, making them chuckle.
"I was just saying hello," Maleficent said.
A scream made everyone snap their heads, and they all turned to see Mal falling from 5 stories high. Both Ben and Chad rushed forward, in an attempt to catch her. Ben rushed fast, and when he was about to catch her she disappeared in a puff of smoke. He fell onto his stomach, before he turned around and saw Mal standing above him with a smile on her face.
"That was not funny," he said as he pointed at her.
"Then why am I laughing?" She asked as she held her hand out to him.
He took her hand, before pulling him up and ruffling his hair more than it already was. He shook his head and huffed a laugh, before smiling down at her.
"Mallory," Maleficent said as she walked up to her daughter. "What did I say about playing tricks on people?"
"You said it's rude, but dad says it's funny," she said.
"And what did I say about your fathers joking?"
"That I shouldn't, because it could hurt someone."
"Exactly," she said. "You are allowed to have fun, but don't take things too far," she said with a wink before walking back to the adults.
"You can fly?" Chad asked, making Mal and Ben turn to him. "That's cool."
"Yeah," Mal said as she nodded her head and laughed. "Perks of being half fae and god."
A bolt of lightning struck the middle of the room, and when the flash was gone, Haley and Herkie were standing in the middle of the room.
"Hal! Herk!" Mal exclaimed. "You're here!" She said before she ran past the two princes and toward her cousins.
"She's cute," Chad said, making Ben look at him with wide eyes. "Don't you think?"
"Yeah. I do," Ben stated sternly.
"You think she'll want to go on a date with me after we move in on Saturday?"
"No," Ben stated.
"Woah," Chad said as he held his hands up. "Do you like her or something?"
"Yeah," Ben said in a hushed tone. "I kinda do."
"Well, we will see who she picks," he said as he walked back over to his parents.
Two hours later, the sleepover was in full swing, and everyone was sitting around in their pajamas and on the mattresses mingling. Ben was sitting with Doug and Aziz, when he turned to see Audrey talking with Chad and Ryder.
"No," Audrey said as she shook her head. "Neither of you can ask her out."
"Why not?" Ryder asked. "She's really cool and she seems like a lot of fun."
"She is, but I said no," Audrey stated as she folded her arms over her chest.
"You can't make her not date anyone, she is her own person," Chad said.
"I understand that, but, and how do I say this in the nicest way possible?" She said as she started to think. "You two are dumb. In your own special way. Chad is the dumb blonde type, and Ryder is the dummy type."
"Ouch?" Ryder said as he squinted his eyes at the princess.
"Mal is an amazing and incredible person," Audrey said. "She needs someone equally good for her."
"And that is not us?" Chad asked. "We're princes."
"Mal is a fae and goddess. She needs someone who can handle all of her, and you two can't," she said with a shrug. "I don't want that to sound rude, but I feel like if I am blunt with you guys you won't have to face Mal's bluntness."
Ben could over hear the entire conversation, and couldn't help but smile. Audrey had been making comments about him and Mal all day two weeks ago, and he wondered if Audrey would tell him the same thing.
"Hey," Lonnie said as she flopped down onto the air mattress the three guys were sitting on. "We were thinking about playing a game of truth or dare. Want in?"
"Whose playing?"
"All of us," she said as she nudged her head and saw everyone moving some of the other air mattresses around in a circle.
"Okay," Aziz said with a shrug, before he, Ben, and Doug got up to join everyone.
"Who wants to start?" Chad said as he sat down next to Ben and Ryder.
"Me!" Lonnie exclaimed as she raised her hand up high. "Okay. Okay… Jane!"
"Oh my," Jane said as she hugged her knees.
"Truth or dare?"
"I guess truth."
"If you had to choose between going naked or having your thoughts appear in thought bubbles above your head for everyone to read, which would you choose?"
Jane's eyes widened, hearing the question. "Um… is it permanent?"
"Naked for a day. Thoughts for a week."
She sat and thought about it for a moment before looking back at the group. "Thought bubble. Everyone knows I am shy, maybe if my thoughts were out, people wouldn't ask me all of the time."
"Okay, Jane. Your turn to ask."
"Mal," she said, making Mal give Jane her full attention. "Truth or dare?"
Mal tilted her head back and forth, thinking about which to pick. "Truth."
"What's one thing you have done and there were no consequences?"
"Easy," she said as she crossed her arms over her chest. "When I was with my dad, this past time, I let Kerberos out of his 'cage' and watched my dad run around, trying to get him back in."
"Is that why grandpa was laughing at the portal?" Haley asked.
"Yeah," Mal said as she nodded her head. "I called him through the portal to show him."
"Uncle Hades was really mad," Herkie said as he started to laugh. "And that's why grandpa struck you home."
"Exactly, but that is my preferred way to come home," she said as she laughed.
"Can I ask something?" Ally asked as she raised her hand.
"Sure."
"What is a Kerberos?"
"Oh…"
"It's a three headed dog," Ben said, interrupting Mal. "They are big and are said to be very dangerous."
"So it is like a jabberwocky?" Ally asked.
"Semi," Mal said. "Kerberos is 'said' to be dangerous, but he is a big teddy bear, but also can be scary to people he doesn't like."
"They are very territorial," Ben added. "They are really cool. I read about them over the summer, and I would love to see one."
"I'll see what I can do," Mal said as she smirked at Ben.
He smiled at her before looking away so his cheeks didn't get flushed again.
"Okay, Mal," Ryder said. "Your turn."
"Okay, Jordan. Truth or dare?"
"Dare," she said as she held her head up high.
"Okay, do an impression of another player until someone can figure out who it is," Mal said with a smile on her face.
"Done," Jordan said as she started to peak at Mal from the side.
"Are you doing it now?" Doug asked.
"Yep."
"You're not saying anything," Doug asked.
"I don't have to. It should be obvious," she said as she peaked up at Mal again.
"I'm lost right now," Chad said.
"I get it now," Ryder said, making everyone look at him in confusion. "You are a dumb blonde."
Everyone in the room laughed, while Chad turned red. He was embarrassed, but he knew it was all fun and games for now.
"Who are you impersonating?" Ben asked.
"You of all people should know," Jordan said as she looked at Ben and then back to Mal.
"GOT IT!"
"Who?" Chad asked.
Audrey smirked before leaning over and whispering in Jordan's ear. "YEP!"
"Do we get to know?" Ruby asked.
"No," Audrey asked. "I wouldn't want to embarrass them right now. Later, though, is a different story."
They went on with the game for about an hour, before it was Audrey's turn next.
"Okay," she said as she scanned the room. "Ben."
"I feel targeted," he said as he squinted his eyes at her. "You have picked on me three times."
"You're an easy target for me," she said with a shrug. "Now, truth or dare?"
Ben shook his head. He was glad that Audrey had not asked him anything embarrassing yet, because he didn't know what he was going to do if she asked him to do something or ask him something he couldn't handle.
"Truth."
"Do you have a crush on anyone?"
"Dare."
"Tell us who you have a crush on."
"Back to truth," he said with a sigh. "Yes."
"Who?"
"Ah," Ben said as he held his finger up. "You already asked me a question. If you wanted to know who. You should have asked me a different question."
Audrey was about to argue back, but Devial walked into the room with pizza boxes in his hands.
"Hello, Devial," Mal said as she got up and walked over to him. "Do you need any help?"
"You are so lucky this game was interrupted, Florian," she said as she pointed at Ben.
"No need, Fae," Devial said as Mal walked up to help him. "I can handle it."
"I know you can, but I am offering too," she said as she took the top three boxes off of the top.
Everyone walked over to the table, and sat down as Mal and Devial opened all of the boxes. After offering Devial a couple of slices, and him denying, everyone sat and ate, before turning on a movie. They cleaned up their mess, got comfortable on the mattresses that they were going to be sleeping on, and enjoyed watching a movie together. After everyone fell asleep, Ben woke up to use the bathroom. On his way back to his air mattress, he saw that Haley was now in hers by herself. She and Mal were sharing one, but Mal was nowhere in sight. He felt a breeze and then turned to see the giant glass door open. He walked over, and saw Mal sitting on one of the pillars sketching.
"Mal?" He called, making her turn to him.
"Hey, sorry. Did I wake you?" She asked.
"No," he said as he shook his head and walked over to her. "I went to the bathroom and on my way back to bed, I saw you weren't sleeping with Haley."
"Yeah," she said as she put her pencil down. "I couldn't sleep. So I came out here to draw a bit."
He looked over her shoulder and saw a very detailed picture of the Isle. He tilted his head, now knowing why she was drawing it, or why she would want to. No one in Auradon, other than him, really talks or thinks about the Isle.
"That's the Isle," he said as he pointed to the drawing and sat down.
"Yeah," she said. "I am kinda fascinated by it?"
"Do you mind if I ask why?" He asked.
"No," she said as she shook her head. "I think about it, because that could have been my home."
"What?" He asked.
"I could have been born on the Isle, or I could have not been born at all, if things had turned out different for my parents," she started to explain. "I think about it a lot. Like, what if my mom didn't defeat Stefan?"
"Aurora's biological father?" He asked.
"Yeah. What if he had defeated my mother? What if Zeus didn't forgive my dad? I could have easily been on the Isle right now. I wonder all of the time, who is on the Isle and doesn't deserve it? Are there kids on the Isle? Are they suffering? Do they think we abandoned them?"
"You care about the Isle?" He asked as he sat down and smiled at her.
He had never met another person who cared about the Isle, the conditions of it, and the people. They were a part of Auradon, even if people didn't think so.
"I do," she said as she looked up at him. "It's a neglected part of Auradon. I know it's the home of villains, but if there are children in it, why are they being punished for their parents' crimes?"
"I think the same thing," Ben said as he got excited to finally talk to someone about this. "My dad could have been easily sent to the Isle… you know… if he didn't create it."
Mal laughed. "He didn't know that there could be a possibility of kids being born on the Isle, and we don't even know if there are any. They get sent food barges, but that's it. We don't know anything else."
"When I am king, I want to do some digging," he said. "I haven't told anyone, because I don't know how people are going to react. I have always looked at the isle, and I feel like we have abandoned them."
"You want to fix the Isle?" She asked.
"I don't know," Ben said. "I want to know the living conditions of it. I want to see how people live. They may be villains, but they are people. If we abandon them, then we are no better than they are."
"We would be the villains."
Both of them froze, not knowing what to say anymore. They had never met anyone with the amount of passion that they had for the Isle, and it felt good to get all of it out.
"I can't do anything until I am king, but I want to do something."
"You're going to be a great king," she said.
"How would you know?"
"I'm a good judge of character," she said, making him shake his head and laugh. "Plus, you have a good heart. Normally people wouldn't think of the villains as people, but you do. Those are the traits of a great leader. Someone who doesn't judge a book by it's cover and gives second chances."
He gave her a small smile, before he bumped his shoulder to hers. He was falling for her, and he didn't care how hard he was going to hit the ground. She was like no one he had ever met, and he was so happy that he was going to have years to get to know her.
"We should head inside," she said as he threw her legs over the balcony and placed her feet on the ground. "It's late."
He nodded his head, before he swung his legs over and followed her inside. They walked over to their beds, and slowly crawled into them, without waking anyone up. He turned his head, just in time to see Mal turn on her side that was facing him. She looked over and they both smiled at each other, before getting comfortable and falling asleep. Ben was very eager to start school now, especially now that Mal was going to be at least a 20 minute walk away from him.
The next morning, everyone was getting ready for their parents to pick them up. Devial had made them all breakfast, and they all left one my one, except for Haley and Herkie. Their grandfather had struck them with a flash of light, and they vanished when the light faded. Ben and Jane were the last to leave, because Jane was going to be going home with Ben.
"I'm so sorry we are late," Belle said as she walked up to her son and niece.
"It was not a problem at all," Aurora said. "Ben and Jane are the best."
"Ahem," Mal and Audrey said.
"I stand with what I said," she said, making everyone laugh.
"Well, I will take them off of your hand, and we will see you all tomorrow," she said as she smiled at the girls. "And be ready for loads of pictures."
"Now, the fun of packing," Mal said as she waved her hands in the air. "Yay."
"You sound so excited," Ben said as he smiled at her.
"Ha ha. You're so funny," she said as she playfully shoved his shoulder.
The two princesses and queen walked Belle, Ben, and Jane to the front door, before Ben turned back.
"We'll see you tomorrow," he said as he waved at them.
"Can't wait," Mal shouted back, before she winked at him.
His cheeks flushed red, before he got into the limo and it rode away. Tomorrow would be a new beginning for not only him, but for all of his friends. He couldn't wait, but he couldn't wait to see Mal again.
Okay! That is it for now! Please let me know what you think! This was one of the One Shots that people wanted me to expand on, so I am going to give it a shop to see what you all think of it!
Hopefully the next update will be up in a couple of days, but with Christmas coming up I do not know for sure!
Until next time my lovies! xoxo GM
