YARR: Yet Another Rory Revelation
There are many fan-fics about Rory showing up somewhere in season four, five, six to either fix things or to be angry at Lucifer. So let me make my own: Rory showing up at a different moment, at a different place and with a different intention. We're in season one, episode ten: Chef Javier is murdered. Penelope had come at the crime scene and wants a family diner. Trixie ran to the Lux to escape her mom and her nana having words. That's were we start: around twenty-third minutes into this episode. Trixie is talking with Maze. Chloe is on her way to pick up her daughter.
Chapter one: Chloe's daughter shows up in the Lux
Trixie had taken an Uber to the Lux; Chloe sighed. Her muscles tensed, she drove faster than sensible and could only hope her seven years old daughter was ok. Chloe realized it was her own fault. She shouldn't have words with Penelope in front of Trixie. Chloe knew her daughter still had problems handling the fights between her and Dan and now she added one between her and Penelope. Why had Trixie gone to the Lux? To see Lucifer? Chloe swallowed. Lucifer wouldn't like it: he hated children. Well he said he hated them, but she had the impression deep inside he cared for Trixie.
For a moment that brought her thoughts on Lucifer. He cared, he made her smile, he had her back. He wanted to have sex with her. He was charming and handsome, but he only was looking for a one-night stand and he was delusional, believing he was the devil. Chloe sighed again. Traffic light became green but the car in front of her didn't move. She cursed and honked. Each minute something bad could happen to Trixie. The car moved. She was never going to consider a relation with someone that was… insane. She hated the word and felt ashamed of combining it with Lucifer, but he was. If he could just drop that devil character for even an hour, she would be willing to… To what? Even that was not easy, he was the most promiscuous man on Earth and she knew she couldn't handle that. She didn't want to bring such a person in Trixie's life. Although he was already in Trixie's life, given that her daughter had fled to the Lux.
At the Lux she didn't look for a parking spot, but just dropped her car in front of the main entrance. Even while the club was not open yet, the doors wouldn't be locked. The doors were never locked. What was her daughter doing inside while the club was empty and Lucifer might not be in.
When Chloe reached the balcony above the main floor of the Lux she heard voices. Two voices and one of them was her daughter. She took a deep breath and finally relaxed. Trixie was ok.
"… They're fighting over what they want me to be when I grow up." That was Trixie.
"What do you want to be?" Was it that ninja bartender Mazikeen? She stepped to the railing and looked down. Mazikeen and Trixie were at the bar.
"I want to be the first president of Mars. Or a zookeeper," Trixie said.
"Mm-hmm." Maze smiled at Trixie. "I used to be a zookeeper. In a way."
"Really? That's so cool," Trixie sounded exited. The little girl took the glass in front of her. What was in that? Chloe rushed to the stairs to go down
"Is this a Shirley Temple?"
Maze took a cherry and put it in. "Sure."
Before Trixie could drink it Chloe had left the stairs and said loudly: "Trixie! Thank God you're okay."
She hugged her daughter. "What were you thinking, running away like that?"
"I wanted to see Lucifer," Trixie explained. "But he wasn't here. So I made a new friend." She looked at Maze. "What's your name?"
"Mazikeen." Maze smiled with her head tilted. "But you can call me Maze."
Chloe sighed and said softly: "Thank you, Maze."
Maze' expression darkened. "I didn't say you could."
Chloe rolled her eyes. "Right. We go home, monkey."
"I need to go to the toilet, mommy."
Chloe looked aside to Maze. The bartender smiled. "No problem. I show you." She came around the bar and walked with Trixie to a door and pointed in the passage. "Over there."
The Lux was empty apart from Chloe at the bar, Maze ten steps away in a door opening and Trixie out of sight to the toilet. Chloe was looking at Maze and wondering about the always aggressive woman that now acted as if she liked Trixie.
A point of red light lit up, in between her and Maze. Within a moment it became an intense red stripe, a few feet high. Then it expanded and with the next blink of Chloe's eyes it was a girl, a few years older than Trixie, with dark hair and… two red wings, unfolded and spread to a full wingspan of at least ten feet. The girl had appeared from thin air and a bit rotated away from her, more or less facing Maze. Maze turned and the two looked at each other.
"Aunt Maze," the girl shouted. "Nice to see you." She stepped forwards with her arms up and hugged Maze. The bartender tensed, looked eyes wide and confused at the girl.
"Who are you?"
"Come on, aunt Maze. You must remember how I looked fifteen years ago. Rory."
"Rory? I don't know a Rory."
The girl laughed. "Trying to fool me. Maze? I'm no baby anymore. Aurora Jane Morningstar, Chloe's and Lucifer's daughter from the past. You know me."
Chloe stepped forward. "How did you… What are…"
Rory looked over her shoulder and laughed again. "Hi, mom." She flapped her wings and with two beats she was in Chloe's arms embracing her. "Where is dad? You must recognize me. This is me fifteen years ago, from 2032. I'm just testing my time travel with aunt Ella. Well, T was with aunt Maze and aunt Eve and aunt Raziel and aunt Na'amah to a concert on a Halloween festival and Maze and Na'aman could show their demon faces because everyone would think it was a mask and that is so funny and you had asked dad to carry you to hell to interrogate a bad man as you do more often and…"
"Who is aunt Eve?"
Chloe and Rory both looked. It was Trixie who asked. Rory let herself slid to the floor and made two steps to Trixie.
"Is… You are…" Rory's eyes went wide open. "T?"
"I'm Trixie," Trixie said.
"Yes, T," Rory said. She swallowed. "O, granddad. This is not 2047."
"No," Trixie answered. "It is 2017."
Rory slowly turned to Chloe. "Mom… Sorry. I love you, mom. I love dad. But I have to go. I should not be here." She gave first Trixie a kiss, then Maze and last Chloe. "Love you, mom," she said again. She spread her wings and the next moment she was gone.
For seconds Chloe and Maze stood and stared at the place where Rory had disappeared. It was Trixie who broke the spell. "Aunt Eve? Aunt Naama? Do you have friend called Eve, Maze?"
"No. I have no idea who your aunt Eve can be. A sister of your mother? But Na'amah is one of my sisters."
"And an aunt Ella?" Trixie shook Chloe's hand. "Mom, who are Eve and Ella?"
"I…" Chloe swallowed. "I don't… She had wings. She could fly."
"Half-angel," Maze said. "She called you mom and her last name was Morningstar."
Chloe shook her head. "Angels don't exist. Lucifer just had a very traumatic youth and hides in metaphors."
Maze raised her eyebrows. "Stubborn? You just saw your daughter's wings. She literally flew in your arms. A moment ago she disappeared in thin air."
"It can't be true," Chloe repeated, more to herself than to Maze.
Maze shrugged, walked to the bar and poured two drinks. She handed one to Chloe.
"He can't be," she whispered to no-one in particular.
"Why not?" Maze asked.
"The devil doesn't exist."
"Mom, an angel just flew in your arms," Trixie repeated what Maze said before. "And I saw Lucifer's eyes when he scared my bully. Red fire in his eyes."
Chloe's whole body was shaking. She remembered the reflection she had seen during the Lindsay Jolson case: the shining red eyes. If it was all true… Maze was really a demon. She was in danger. Trixie was in danger. She did a step back. But Trixie turned to Maze. "In 2032 we will go to a concert together."
"Yeah. It looks like, Trix."
"To which concert?"
"I have no idea," Maze grinned. "I don't know yet which band or artist is hottest in 2032."
"Trix," Chloe hissed, gesturing to her daughter.
As a reaction Trixie grabbed Maze' hand and asked: "Mom, do you think Rory can take me flying?"
"What?" Chloe stared at her daughter.
"Maze?" Trixie turned to the demon.
"Well…" Maze frowned. "I think not yet in 2032. It was a little girl and in 2032 you will be a grown-up woman, so you will be to big for that.
Danger, flashed through Chloe's head. She had to get Trixie away from the demon without making that monster angry.
"And now I am your friend and my sister will also be your friend because she calls you aunt."
It hit Chloe. Her daughter… both her daughters befriend a demon? Did she believe Rory? The girl had hugged her and she had felt she loved her. But… Lucifer was the devil. Evil!
In the meanwhile Trix continued talking with Maze. "What did she said about mom visiting hell?"
"Mm." Maze thought for a moment. "Let us look back the scene at the security cam. I can play it on the tv behind the bar."
A minute later Chloe stared at the screen. Maze and Trixie walked to the door leading to the toilet. She herself was at the bar. The red light that became a stripe and Rory appeared with her wings spread. "… aunt Maze … Aurora Jane Morningstar, Chloe and Lucifer's daughter … mom."
Maze stopped the recording and turned to Chloe. "A half-angel. Did you see her fly?"
Trixie came to her and grabbed her hands. "She is, mom. And Lucifer is her dad."
The screen moved on. "… you had asked dad to carry you to hell to interrogate a bad man as you do more often..."
"What does that mean?" Chloe whispered.
"Lucifer flies with you to hell. You interrogate a guy and he can tell… let's say who killed him. Then Lucifer flies you back and you know who to pursuit. All safe."
"Safe?" Chloe asked with a trembling voice.
"O, yes. That it is. But there is something else that confuses me: Lucifer burned his wings. He can't fly."
"So it can't be true," Chloe almost shouted.
Maze shrugged. "Never before did an angel burn his wings. Can they reappear? Only Lucifer's dad knows."
"Rory said O granddad," Trixie added. "Did she mean O God?"
Maze nodded. Chloe shivered. She never believed, but if this was all true God existed, heaven and hell existed. Her partner was the devil. Her partner that made her smile, supported her, had her back, was the devil.
"And you have a demon face? Rory mentioned it. And she and I think that's funny"
Maze searched that sentence of Rory and played it twice again. "Yes, it seems."
"Can I see it?"
Maze looked at Chloe. "Let us first talk with your mom. She doesn't look as if she can handle it."
That made Chloe stand straight. She was a detective, she could handle difficult situations and solve them. "Why are you here? Why is Lucifer here? What do you want from us?"
Maze grinned. "That's it, Decker. Hide your fear and act. Why am I here? I followed Lucifer and now I'm stuck in this terrible place called Earth. All alone. Surrounded by stupid humans, until Lucifer decides we go back. And I just heard he stays for at least the next fifteen years." She sighed. "O, well. At least your daughters will like me."
"Alone," Chloe whispered.
"Indeed. Do you think you humans with all your emotions are fun? It's disgusting."
Up to this moment Chloe had only seen an aggressive, ruthless and insane Maze, but suddenly she realized the woman was alone in a way no human was, she was literally the only one of her species on Earth. "I never understood… but I now do see. I hope my daughters will be good friends for you. If I can help you, let me know, Mazikeen."
The demoness stared at her mouth open. Then she nodded. "Call me Maze."
Chloe gave her a smile.
"Can I now see her face, mommy?"
Chloe's first wanted to say no, but she realized deep inside she wanted to see prove that was here and not gone to the future. She hesitated before whispering: "If Maze wants to show you."
She looked at Maze. It was as if she had a nightmare. Half the face was gone, rotten flesh, no skin, tendons and muscles visible on the bare skull. One eye as a white stone. Before she could panic, Trixie shouted: "That is so cool." She hugged Maze and then with worry in her voice, asked: "Does it hurt you?"
Maze' face turned to all human again. "No, it doesn't hurt. You're not scared?"
"Of course not. We're friends. It was so awesome. Indeed for a Halow..."
Their conversation was interrupted by Chloe's phone beeping. "Sorry, my mother."
"Pumpkin, did you find Trixie?"
"Yes, mom. She is safe."
"We are waiting for you. Diner remember?"
In the car back home a small break down hit Chloe. Her mother had said we are waiting for you and earlier today she had invited Lucifer. No. She didn't know whether she was ready to face him already, certainly not to speak with him about this. When she parked for her house, she looked around. No Corvette to be seen. She sighed with relief, but then she saw Dan's car. She turned to Trixie. "Monkey."
"Yes, mom."
"We shouldn't talk about Rory or Maze or Lucifer with nana and also not with daddy, do you promise?"
"Why not, mommy?"
"They will think we are crazy, they will not believe us. Promise me, don't tell them."
Trixie slowly nodded. Chloe leant with her forehead on the steering wheel. Could she trust Lucifer, should she trust Lucifer? She and Dan were trying to make things up… But Lucifer was going to be the father of her second daughter. Within five years or so. She apparently was going to trust him since fifteen years from now, she was going to ask him to carry her to hell. To hell. To interrogate a soul. She took a deep breath. That must be a hell of a trick – shit, pun not intended – to find out who did what. She looked around once more. No Corvette. Ok. Yes or no trusting Lucifer was a worry for tomorrow. Now her mother and Dan. She chuckled.
"What is it, mommy?" Trixie asked.
"Nana met Lucifer earlier today. She called him a handsome devil."
Trixie nodded and smiled. "He is the devil."
"Don't tell nana!"
"No, but he is also handsome, don't you think? I think a lot of mommies of the children of my class would like to kiss with him."
O, God. No, not God. O, somebody else. Chloe swallowed. She didn't want to think of Lucifer kissing.
Her phone beeped to announce a message from the lab. After reading she raised her eyebrows and thought it over.
"Mommy?"
"We go inside."
Chloe and Trixie left the car, Chloe opened the door of her home and froze. It was Lucifer who came to them.
"Lucifer!" Trixie shouted and before Chloe could react, her daughter sprinted to him and hugged him. He stood as always, arms spread and held high, motionless and with a frightened expression.
"Detective." He almost prayed. "Please. Help me. Take her away."
Chloe watched and started to laugh. Satan himself, the actual, biblical devil, captured by a seven year old girl and helpless. He was her partner, her friend and this cute scene in front of her made her accept what more they will become.
"This is not funny, detective," he wined. Still laughing she raised her phone and took a picture; Maze would like this.
It was Dan who came to Lucifer's rescue. "Trix, don't touch him. Come with me."
"But it's Lucifer, daddy. And he is my friend and my sis…"
"Trix," Dan interrupted her. "I brought chocolate cake. It's in the kitchen."
"Cake!" Trixie released Lucifer and ran for the kitchen.
Slowly Lucifer started to grin. "Luckily chocolate is more important than me.
"I demand you stay away from my daughter," Dan snapped to him.
"O, detective Douche. In case you're limited senses didn't catch it, I didn't touch her, she attacked me."
Penelope walked towards them. "There you are, pumpkin. Diner is ready."
Chloe noticed an amazing smell in the house. "What take-away did you order?"
"No take-away. Lucifer's friend is cooking for us."
"Lucifer's friend?" Chloe looked at Lucifer, who smiled.
"Detective, you remember Junior?"
Javier Junior became visible for a second through the kitchen door.
"Of course," Lucifer continued. "Just wait until you taste his molé. It is to die for."
Dan and her mother went back to the kitchen, leaving Chloe and Lucifer alone. She realized she was standing with the devil, apart from the others. At the same moment she realized she had been much more alone with the devil dozens of times in the last months and he never harmed her. "Lucifer…" She stopped, she had just decided to trust him.
"Yes, detective?"
"Javier is suspected of murder by poisoning…" She searched for the right words. "Are you sure it is safe to let him cook for my family?"
"Hundred percent, detective. I talked with him, I asked what he desired. He wanted to make up with his dad. Trust me."
"Ok, I can do." She took out her phone and showed him the message from the lab. "The heroin in Chef Javier's stomach and the heroin found at Naomi's don't match."
Lucifer grinned. "I told you."
Chloe closed her eyes. Talk about Rory? Talk about Maze' face. Her mother called: "Do come, please. The table is ready."
They took a seat. Javier Junior on the foot of the table, Lucifer and Penelope on the long side on his left, Chloe and Dan on the right long side and Trixie on the head. "I stopped eating meat while backpacking through India," Junior said. "So I had to get creative with my dishes. This is my vegetarian take on Oaxacan molé with a tart, vegan crème fraîche."
"Sounds so exotic," Penelope commented.
"Lovely," Lucifer said. "I cannot wait to dig in."
They ate, had some small talk and praised the meal.
Halfway the meal it suddenly hit Chloe once more: she and Dan were trying to make up, right, but… But in five years or so she would have a second daughter. With Lucifer. If he could just drop that devil character for even an hour, she had thought so often, she would be willing to… There was nothing to drop. He was not delusional. She looked at him, he gave her a big smile.
"Why did you come back to your dad?" Lucifer asked Junior.
Javier sighed. "Me and my dad… We used to fight all the time over the dumbest stuff. That's why I left. But no matter what I did, I couldn't get away. You know, 'cause every time I cooked a meal or I looked in the mirror, there he was staring back at me."
"That's a tad bit creepy," Lucifer said.
"Because he's a part of me, man. I came back home so I could tell him that I was clean. And I want to be a chef again. This meal was what I was gonna make for him to prove it."
"Well," Lucifer said "It is very good."
"Wait, wait, wait," Dan said, "Chlo', this guy is the suspect in your murder case? Suspected from killing his father?"
Chloe's eyes went from Dan to Junior to Lucifer and back to Dan. "My feeling says I can trust Lucifer, so I decide to trust Lucifer."
Dan throw his napkin on the table. "Your feeling? The same stupid feelings that let you go on with Palmetto? You should listen to me, not to that insane, delusional nightclub owner that tries to buy you with his money."
"I don't buy the detec…" Lucifer started, anger in his voice, raising from his chair.
"No, Lucifer," Chloe interrupted him. She reached over the table and put her hand against his chest. "You don't buy me and I now know you are not delusional." She put emphasis on the last four words. Lucifer froze and stared her in the eyes. She nodded emphatically. "And I have already decided to trust you."
With an uncertain and confused look Lucifer sank back to his chair.
