What defines one's humanity? Is it one's nature or is it one's nurture? Sometimes humanity can be found in the most unexpected of places. Places where things beyond human understanding exist. One of the most incomprehensible entities existing on the various planes of reality is the one known to a very small few as Nyarlahotep, the Crawling Chaos. The fact that the Crawling Chaos was the most human-like out of the Outer Gods, by some convoluted standard, also made him/it one of the most terrifying.
While the mental workings of an Outer God and other Eldritch entities were incomprehensible to humans, even they experienced mental states that humans weren't unable to feel or understand. And one of the most common ones was boredom. So when they do get the opportunity for some entertainment, they'll take it. Nyarlahotep was no different and willing to invest some time and resources for the sake of entertainment. And there was nothing more entertaining for the Crawling Chaos than chaos. The Outer God's plan for some entertainment was quite different from the previous times, due to the plan involving him leaving behind an offspring in the realm of humanity and simply seeing what happens. The offspring was produced through a ritualistic intercource performed by a bunch of young humans who had found a grimoire and had in ignorance attempted (and succeeded) in performing the ritual that brought Nyarlahotep's offspring into the world of humanity.
About nine months after the intercource, the offspring was properly born. The offspring was revealed to be female. Though considering that her technical father was Nyarlathotep, biological gender didn't/wouldn't really mean much to the child of the Crawling Chaos. Despite the strong resemblance to the two humans that were the offspring's biological parents, the child was without a doubt not human but an infant Outer God/Goddess. The main reason why the child looked human was because that was what she was most familiar with and therefore the form she subconsciously took on, caused by something akin to imprinting, but even then, there were some things about the child's appearance that definitely wasn't normal. One such anomaly was the child's ears, which were pointy instead of round like normal human ones. Another one was the child's eyes. The child of the Crawling Chaos' eyes were mainly golden, but what made them truly abnormal was the six tiny dots surrounding the pupil (that never changed size regardless of the amount of light), each in a different color with the addition of a black spot in the middle of the dots, making them look like tiny eyes within the iris. Even stranger was the fact that the dots in the eyes were switching places with each other at random intervals.
Unfortunately(/interestingly for Nyarlahotep and the few other Eldritch entities that had decided to join him in observing the life of his offspring) it was because of those inhuman anomalies that led to the child's biological parents to give up the child for adoption. Thankfully for the child of the Crawling Chaos though, she didn't stay in the foster system for long as she was rather quickly adopted by a pair of Magicals by the names of James and Lily Potter, who resorted to adoption since circumstances had rendered both unable to have children of their own. The two Magicals were the ones to give the child of the Crawling Chaos a proper (human) name, Hailey Potter.
