A/N: I own nothing from Injustice. All characters belong to DC. For those wondering, yes, I am aware that this sort of alternate reality has been attempted before. I simply intend to try my hand, and hopefully my own efforts will result in a better written story than some I've seen where the author just doesn't try. I know that by this time, Injustice is both a rather old game and comic series, but it's also still very popular, so this is for all you people that, like me, still find that twisted enjoyment from the chaos in Injustice. Finally, I am aware that there was recently a new animated Injustice movie. No, I have not seen it. No, I do not intend to. I got as far as the Flash's death and decided that I preferred the comics, and this story is based on events in the comics, though obviously different. For those who don't know, the Injustice storyline starts with the Joker killing Superman's best friend, Jimmy Olsen, and kidnapping Clark's pregnant wife, Lois Lane, and the entire Justice League is searching for her.

Chapter 1

He was Bruce Wayne by day. He was Batman by night. Whatever face he wore, he would always carry with him the mind of a detective. He was certifiably a genius, perhaps the smartest man on the planet, but the one thing that even the mind of a genius couldn't explain was the mind of a madman. Batman stroked his chin in thought as he stared at the Joker-ized face of Jonathan Crane, aka the Scarecrow. It was clear that Joker was somehow involved in Scarecrow's death. He was probably even the one responsible for it, but what Batman couldn't quite understand was why. Joker had proven time and again that his insanity did not equate to any lack of ability on his part. His sickness hid the mind of a genius and strategist. Whatever Joker was up to, it was no accident. It was a methodically planned, twisted sort of game to the clown, and Batman hated to think what his endgame was if he brought in Lois Lane. Suddenly, he had a terrible thought. STAR Labs, the very lab that Bruce was in, had been experimenting with kryptonite. Combining kryptonite effects with Scarecrow's signature Fear Toxin would result in…

Just as Batman figured out Joker's plan, he got a message from Wonder Woman over the Justice League communications. "I'm at the docks. We got lucky," she said, "As soon as we showed up, someone ran." "And?" Bruce questioned. He heard Diana's voice speak, saying, "Tell him," and then the voice of an unknown man said into her comm, "Joker's not in Metropolis. He and Harley Quinn stole a submarine. They're in the harbor." Batman immediately stood and yelled into his communicator, "Clark, stand down! It's a trick!" Bruce ten turned and nodded to Flash, and Barry grabbed him and sped the both of them down to the harbor. Superman turned to Batman with a mixture of anger and fear in his eyes, and said, "Batman, my wife and unborn child are down there in the hands of a madman. I can't wait." Clark lifted into the air and prepared to fly down into the water, but Bruce yelled, "If you go in there, she'll die!" Clark stopped in mid-launch and turned to Bruce with confusion on his face. "You have five seconds to explain." "She's in no immediate danger, but Joker has set a trap for you," Bruce quickly explained. Clark started to slowly set down, trusting Bruce's word that Lois was not in danger. "He's flooding that sub with Fear Toxin laced with kryptonite. My guess is that this particular strain of the toxin would direct you… at Lois. He wants to make you kill her." Clark's eyes went wide and he looked at Bruce with horror.

Reassured that he had brought Clark back to his senses with his strong words, Bruce turned to Wonder Woman and the newly arriving Hal Jordan, or Green Lantern. "Wonder Woman, go lift that submarine onto land," Bruce ordered, and she nodded before flying into the water to follow Batman's orders. Batman then pointed at Hal and said, "Lantern, as soon as that sub touches the ground, you tear it open and clear the entire inner chamber. Get all threats away from Lois. And wear a mask for the gas." Lantern also nodded and formed a green construct gas mask over his face, one that even Fear Toxin wouldn't be able to penetrate, then flew over to intercept the submarine as it was pulled out of the ocean. Bruce turned to Clark and ordered, "Stay. Whatever happens, you stay. We can't allow Joker to win here. I promise, I will bring them back to you." Clark didn't look happy about it, but after hearing the stakes, he didn't dare disobey. The plan was executed perfectly. As soon as the submarine landed on the beach, Green Lantern created a giant drill bit that created a large hole in the side of the sub, then flew inside. Then, Bruce heard over the comms, "Lois is here. She was strapped to a table, but she's safe." Both Bruce and Clark let out a collective sigh of relief, but then they froze as they heard, "But, uh… slight problem. I only have Quinn. Joker isn't here."

Batman stilled and thought back, trying to think about where else Joker would be, but he couldn't figure it out. Joker had to be here, he must be. Joker always wanted to be in the middle of every terrible thing he did. Surely his attempt to break Superman was well worth his time, worth a personal appearance. There was no reason for Joker not to be here. Hal flew out of the sub, followed by Wonder Woman, and he was carrying Lois in his arms and a grumpy looking Harley Quinn in a green bubble behind him. As soon as he landed on the dock next to them, Clark rushed forward and took the unconscious Lois from Hal's arms. He looked at Bruce, who was still lost in thought, but he still had the presence of mind to nod at Clark and say, "I'm sure she's fine, but just don't do anything with her until we've had Cyborg give her a thorough analysis." Just then, Bruce's private communications line received a call, and he looked to see that it was from Commissioner Gordon. He turned to the rest of the Justice League and said, "Call the others, tell them that Lois has been rescued. Have Cyborg come scan her. I need to take this call." Batman pressed a button on his belt, and the Batwing flew over to hover above him. Bruce pulled out his grappling gun and aimed it at his plane, but before he could fire, he heard Clark say behind him, "Thank you, Bruce. For saving them." Batman smiled over his shoulder and responded, "That's what friends are for, Superman." And then Bruce fired his grappling gun, and it pulled him skyward and into the cockpit of the Batwing. The Batwing's computer automatically connected to his suit's interface and pulled up his call on the screen. As he took the controls, Batman said aloud, "Answer." The Batwing accepted the call, and Batman spoke through the communicator, "What is it, Gordon? I just dealt with some Justice League business, so now might not be…" Then, a familiar voice came back to him, and it chilled Bruce to the bone. "Oh, Baaatttssssss…" sang the voice of the Joker.
