"Lookie here, lookie here, earlobes! Want your lunch back?" A fat boy with red wings said, hanging the bag of bento at the tip of his finger teasingly.
The purple haired girl with an odd earphone like cables protruding from the edge of her ears didn't respond.
"Want mommy's cooking back? Come here and show us what your useless quirk has in store! Don't tell me you're as useless as we say you are?!" The other boy laughed abrasively.
"Out of the way, extras!" A voice came from behind. The two of them looked behind only to see a blond, spike haired boy cracking his knuckles.
"B- Bakugou-sama?" Both of them shouted in unison.
"Fucking hell, that ain't the way to teach someone a lesson!" Bakugou gave out a sadistic grin, "The only way to teach useless shits like this bitch is to let your bloodied knuckles do the talking!"
"Hey, uh.. isn't violence against women frowned upon in this age and time?" The fat boy asked.
"Yeah, I mean-" Both of them found themselves enveloped in the intense explosion from Bakugou's palm, as each of them were sent into the ground hastily.
They fell into their butts, as they looked at Bakugou in submission and fear, acknowledging who the bigger man was.
Bakugou Katsuki was always the popular one in their middle school. None of the, as the abrasive boy liked to dub them, 'extras', are a match for him in terms of strength and quirk versatility.
None of them are even deemed to stand in his equal footing. The teachers even affirmed him for both his intelligence and his quirk.
"You sit there in your space of cowardice, and let do a real man do the job." Bakugou gave out a devilish grin, approaching the purple haired girl with malicious intents, "Cause this man is about to-"
A fist came to his face, causing him to recoil back in pain. He rubbed his cheeks in pain, as he noticed a familiar face standing in front of the girl.
That fucking...
"DEKU!" Bakugou yelled, "The hell are you doing here?!"
"Kacchan, I know you hate quirkless people like me, b- but why are you picking on a girl like her? Look at her, she's done nothing-" Izuku was interrupted when Bakugou yelled back,
"SHUT YOUR FUCKING MOUTH! I'm only here to teach her a lesson! She thinks she's better than everyone else here, including me. Look at her! Always preferring to be alone and ignoring everyone else! Does she think she's hot shit or something?! And her quirk's lame too! What does those earlobes do?! I bet she uses them to do some naughty stuff." Bakugou screamed back.
"Kacchan, she's a transfer student, you have to understand." Izuku defended her, "She could've been trying to adjust herself to the environment. You don't know if she's a timid, shy, and awkward person that doesn't know how to initiate a social interaction! You know nothing about her intentions!"
"Look at this goddamn nerd," Bakugou laughed a bit, "Acting like he knows everything. What are you, a fucking soothsayer? No wonder you like to write those creepy ass stalking notebooks."
"Fine. I'll let you both go this time to see another day. But the next time I see you, you're fucking dead." Bakugou ended with an empty threat, before walking away from the school yard, to outside of the gate.
Both of the boys threw the bento into the ground, before following Bakugou along.
Izuku breathed a little, before turning his back over the silent girl, who didn't seem to be bothered as much. He grabbed the plastic bag of bento from the ground, before giving it over to Earlobes.
She reluctantly took it, as she rubbed her hands against each other, indicating her uneasiness.
"Are you okay?" Izuku asked.
The girl didn't respond. She shifted away slightly in discomfort.
"Don't worry. I'm not here to hurt you. Please pardon ah..Kacchan's abritary actions." Izuku smiled nervously, "Did they hurt you?" He frowned in an instant, remembering what situation the girl was in.
The girl shook her head.
"I'm glad you're okay." Izuku gave her a passionate smile, "You can go home, right?"
She nodded, as her muscles began to relax.
"Well, be careful on the way." Izuku said, as he walked away.
"Wait!"
Izuku stopped on his track, turning his head over to meet the girl's eye, "Um.. what's your name?" She asked.
"Midoriya Izuku." The greenett replied.
"Thank you, Midoriya-san." Earlobes bowed a little in sign of gratitude.
Izuku only nodded, as he smiled, "All in a day's work, Jirou."
She widened her eyes. He remembers her name? Nobody bats an eye when she introduced herself, so why did he? Is he really that observant?
A moment later, she didn't even know that Izuku was already gone. She let out a sigh, as she walked, heading towards her home. This day couldn't go any worse, right?
...
{Linkin Park - In The End}
Izuku strode across the sidewalks, as many pedestrians passed him by.
As he looked above, the words 'A World Without A Symbol' was plastered over a giant screen.
"Crime rates have flunctuated for the past few decades, it hurts me to say. Everytime a day passes, according to statistics, dozens of crimes would happen in this country at several different points, or maybe even happen at the same time. The only good thing that has happened to us is that the fact that the numbers of mysterious beings has dramatically decreased over the past few years." The man behind the news headlines said.
Izuku knew that he was living in a hopeless world, in a world without anyone to clung into, without anyone to give out the hope that this country desperately needed.
He himself are put in constant danger as minutes passes by, but that didn't made him waver at all. He knew he had to put his fears aside if he wants to become a pro-hero.
A basketball abruptly struck him in the head. When he shifted his head to the side, he found that the basketball bounced back to it's thrower once again.
The boy laughed scornfully, before walking away.
Izuku sighed, as he pocketed his hands inside the pockets of his school uniform, passing many pedestrians as he walked by. Some of the shops were closing, and some of them are opening.
An old woman trying to cross the street caught his attention. Izuku looked at the traffic, indicating that pedestrians should stop at the sidewalk before crossing the zebra road.
Izuku came to her aid, "Ma'am, do you require some help?"
The old woman looked at him, before smiling, "Oh, lad, really? For little ol' me?"
Izuku nodded, "Really."
"Thank you so much!" The old woman laughed, "I didn't know the youths today are so..modest! Usually, the one's I meet are filthy delinquents with their disgusting prejudice against the quirkless kind."
"Ah." Izuku nervously chuckled, "I- I mean, I'm quirkless."
The old lady looked at him, before saying, "That makes sense. You know, don't let the fact that you don't have any of those flashy stuff get you down. Helping me out already shows that you're a true hero."
Izuku smiled, "Yeah. I.. Thanks."
"No problem, lad." The old lady replied compassionately.
As the traffic lights switched to green, Izuku took the old lady by the hand, as she used her cane to support her frail legs.
When they reached the other side, the old woman nodded in advance, "Thank you so much, lad!"
Izuku bowed politely, "Be careful on your way, ma'am."
She turned away, as she walked away. Izuku stared at the retreating figure of the old woman, before turning away to continue his walk.
As he reached the district where his apartment was located, he entered the door leading to the inside, as he headed upstairs. He opened the door leading to his room, before a chubby woman wearing a pink apron entered his sight.
She greeted him, "Midoriya! You're home!"
Izuku gave her a weak smile, "Hi mom."
"You aren't hurt, are you?"
"Come on," Izuku laughed a bit, "It's not like I come home everyday with unexplained bruises."
Izuku was silent for a moment, before noticing the expression that Inko gave out.
He immediately fixed his blunder, before saying, "W- well, not like it's...completely unexplained, I mean, I've already told you multiple times, right?"
"Right." Inko replied with a deadpan stare, "You fell down some stairs."
"Yyyyep, that's the one, that's the explanation." Izuku replied, before untying his tie from his school uniform.
"You don't have to lie, you know?" Inko said, "I know how your relationship with your childhood friend is, he-"
"Mom, it's fine." Izuku replied, "Kacchan's not that bad. Well, he IS bad, but not that bad. He won't go out of his way to try to kill me, or to grievously injure me, which, I'm very flattered if he does, cause I wouldn't expect a powerful individual such as himself to waste his time on a quirkless person like me- I'm rambling again, am I?"
"That habit of yours is contagious." Inko said lightly, before continuing, "But seriously, Izuku, if he troubles you, you can tell me. I can bring this up to Mitsuki. She's really good at disciplining her kid."
"I don't know," Izuku said in slight suspicion, "Auntie Mitsuki seems the type to..you know." Izuku made some punching gesture to make his point, "Don't get me wrong, I've known her since we were kids but like, we wouldn't know what she does with Kacchan behind closed doors."
"Izuku," Inko shook her head, "Mitsuki doesn't beat up kids. Where did you get that idea from?"
"My interactions with Kacchan gave me the ide- oh." Izuku covered his mouth.
Inko stared at her son, unamused, "Son, you're really bad at this."
Izuku lifted his hand away, "I tend to speak what's on my mind even when unprovoked."
Fuck.
"Get yourself changed. I cooked for you a special dish, your favourite. We'll talk about this later." Inko waved him away, as she returned to the kitchen.
Izuku nodded, before rushing to his bedroom quickly.
...
As Izuku entered his bedroom, he noticed that his bedroom were messier than usual. So much for being organised.
Hell, his computer was still turned on, too!
As he went to turn it off, he stopped for a moment, looking at the video in front of him.
Thirty years ago, it said at the description of the posted video.
As he clicked play, there was seen a boy wearing a yellow jumpsuit, standing amidst the crowds in front of him.
"This was the time.." Izuku muttered, as he processed the video to his mind. He watched this countless times, the day where Yagi Toshinori outed himself as a fraud, and revealed that he wasn't actually quirkless.
You think I care about any of you?!
Izuku was still surprised by the booming voice coming from the blond haired boy. The way he proclaimed that he didn't care about any of them, that he was lying about his quirkless status. This demolished their hope, and they fell into the darkness once again, the deep chasm of discriminatory and oppression.
But Izuku knew that there was something deeper behind his actions. He was..a little perceptive, so to say.
This confession happened after the missing kids case, after the supposed day where Yagi won the UA sports festival event, and scored the first place with barely an effort. He had proclaimed that he was quirkless but..
This caused a large inconvenience among the citizens of the country, followed by a new wave of mysterious beings emerging from all over the place.
Maybe he was trying to protect them?
Maybe there's something that hides behind his outlandish training regimen, that gave him the overwhelming power that he has now?
Izuku has to find him. He then searched through the hero registry website, and found his name listed there.
All Might, The One Punch Hero.
Quirk: Super Strength.
He was placed among the heroes in the bottom, far away from the top ranking heroes, despite his otherworldly strength. A blunder in the Hero Commission's part, but perhaps, they did that to save face, to preserve their public integrity, which wasn't even holding out too strong in the first place.
The rate of people's interest to become a pro-hero has slowly decreasing over the years due to the lower wage the job has than it used to be. The only one's left are mostly the ones with a strong drive and a clear motivation, with no impure intentions and clout scavenging.
Izuku was not one to search for fame, to make a name for himself. He wanted to be a hero so he can make people smile and feel safe.
Now that does feel familiar, does it?
"Izuku! Have you changed yet?! Your food's getting cold!" A distant voice called out to him.
Izuku quickly turned off his computer, "Coming, mom!" He said as he went to change his outfit.
...
Izuku took a bite from a chunkful of meat, before shoving a large amount of rice into his mouth. As he swallowed them, he said, "Mom, there's been this one thing that has been on my mind lately.."
"What is it?" Inko said as she took a sip from her hot tea.
"Do you know about All Might?" Izuku asked.
"That hero who committed those acts of fraudulence thirty years ago? Yeah, I know about him." Inko replied with little to no interest.
"Mom, I don't think he's a fraud." Izuku said, "I know he was lying when he revealed and admitted that he was a fraud. Maybe he's quirkless."
Inko sighed, "Son, I know you're still trying to cling into that hope, but.. that's a bit too far fetched, does it?"
"The limiter theory," Izuku said, "The theory states that there's another way to achieve power without the aid of a quirk. It's connected to the revelation of how the mysterious beings were humans all along. Quirkless humans, most of them."
Inko sighed, "Don't tell me my little baby is turning into a conspiracy theorist?"
"It's not a theory if it's true." Izuku shook his head, "Mom, I know I wasn't there thirty years ago, but I know deep in my heart, that All Might is a good person."
"Maybe he is, maybe he isn't." Inko said, "But that doesn't change the fact that he caused another wave of mysterious beings to come. Whatever regiment he came up with, it was dangerous, even without him knowing it."
Izuku then said, "Exaxtly my point! His training regiment can turn people into mysterious beings! Maybe some people could be unlucky to be turned into a monster, but the lucky ones manages to retain their humanity, like All Might did!"
Inko half heartedly laughed, "Izuku, just..finish your food. You're dreaming too high. I support your dreams fully, but..I don't think you can achieve any power without losing your humanity in the process. I won't let that happen."
Izuku frowned, before looking at the food disappointedly, "But you..get what I'm saying, right?"
"I do. But trying to achieve that kind of power is a risk." Inko said.
"Yeah. It's a risk, but, it's the only way for me to be a hero." Izuku said, earning a death stare coming from his mom.
"O- one of the only ways, o- of course!" Izuku corrected himself.
Inko didn't seem convinced, "Zuku, if you do something stupid, I'll ground you."
Izuku shivered a bit from the threat, "Yeah, I won't, pinky promise."
Inko then gestured for him to continue to eat his food.
In a distant city, a certain blond haired man slowly opened his eyes, gradually waking up from his slumber, looking around at his slightly messy room.
He took a peek over his window, seeing that the sun is already rising over the horizon.
One thought came to his head...
I wonder if I withdrew enough yen from the ATM for the sales today.
That's all for today's chapter! Stay tuned for the next!
