It was early afternoon, a young female Marine walked through the hallways of the Marine base she was stationed in. A scowl on her face as she ignored the looks and whispers of the other Marine recruits as she walked by. She didn't want to waste anymore of her time on their idiocy. If they had the time to stare and whisper about her then they should have the time to do their jobs right. The Marines were seriously going downhill, almost becoming a joke. It was like they just hired anyone who said they wanted to become a Marine.
"Hey isn't that the Ice Queen?" A newly recruited Marine whispered to the man with blonde hair standing beside him.
"Yep, Briar Hunters. Supposedly she's the Marines pet or something." The other whispered back. "Why do you say that?"
"Because no matter how many fights she gets into with the others here or how many rules she breaks they still keep her here. Apparently she's been in the Marines since she was a child." A Marine with bright red hair interrupted. "Rumors going around that she also ate a Devil Fruit but no one here except our superiors have seen it."
"Does she ever smile?" The rookie asked as his eyebrows furrowed as he leaned to the side to glance at the girl walking past them before looking back to the two Marines.
"Nope, that's why everyone here calls her the Ice Queen." The redhead chuckled loudly. He yelped when the blonde whacked his arm. He rubbed his sore arm as he looked at the man with a hurt expression. "Why did you hit me?"
"Do you want her to hear you?" He hissed. It wasn't long before all three started laughing.
Briar walked into her bedroom, slamming the door on the way in. She hated the Marines and everything they stood for as she paced back and forth inside her room, gripping her hair in anger. She hated the Marines with a burning passion, especially Akainu with his twisted sense of justice. She couldn't stand it anymore. Everyday was the exact same routine: wake up early in the morning, shower, have breakfast, endure hellish training with Akainu for hours on end, and then have supper. She wasn't allowed to have her own opinions or say in anything she did, having to follow whatever Sengoku wanted her to do. The only thing that she enjoyed was wood carving as it was the only thing she got to do out of her own free will. The only people that actually treated her like an actual human being instead of an object was Garp and Akoiji. But the only thing she hated the most in the whole world was her Devil Fruit ability. If she wasn't stupid and ate that awful tasting fruit when she was a kid then she wouldn't be here.
Well today she decided she's had enough as she packed her duffel bag with whatever clothing she owned along with her wood carvings. Now that she was already all she needed now was a distraction. She opened the door to see if anyone was outside her room and as soon as the coast was clear she stepped outside her room.. With a smirk on her face she raised her hand towards the empty hallway and whispered the words "Ice Blast." As soon as those two words were spoken she summoned an explosion of white flames. It didn't take long for chaos to take over as the white flames spread along the walls, sending a sudden chill into the air, water sprinklers turned on and everyone was running around like crazy as they tried to put out the fire. While everyone was too busy focusing on putting out the fire, Briar hopped on the nearest boat and managed to get off the island undetected.
It was in the late afternoon and Sengoku was in his office, peacefully sipping his cup of coffee and munching on some fried rice crackers as he looked over the daily newspaper. His beloved pet goat was laying on the floor by his feet, baaing every now and then. These moments were rare seeing as he was the chief admiral of the Marines so he was very busy most of the time. However this rare peaceful moment did not last long. One of the marines barged into his office, hair all frazzled and he was wearing a panicked expression on his face.
"Admiral Sengoku!" The marine shouted as Sengoku looked at him in annoyance. Was it too much to ask for one night where nothing went wrong? "What is it, cadet?" He asked, wondering what could be so important to interrupt his peace and quiet. "I-I s-sir i-its." The cadet stuttered, looking down as he fidgeted with his hands, trying to figure out the right words to say, as he stood in front of Sengoku.
"Spit it out already, cadet!" Sengoku shouted, losing his patience as he took a sip of his coffee. The cadet quickly nodded his head and looked into his superior's eyes, as he took a deep breath before speaking. "It's Briar Hunters sir. She set the base on fire and now no one can find her. She's nowhere on the island."
"What!" Sengoku shouted as he spat out his coffee, getting it all over his desk and on his forgotten newspaper. He stood up and quickly grabbed a towel that was left nearby to quickly clean up the spill. For once he actually wished it was Garp. "She was stationed under Admiral Akainu. How is this possible?" Akainu was one of the best vice-admirals they had. So how could he let her get away? He knew how important she was to the Marines and World Government.
"We don't know sir. All we know is that one part of the Marine base went up in white flames with Briar nowhere to be found." This wasn't good. Briar was one of the Marine's best fighters while also possessing a rare Logia Devil Fruit power to boot. They couldn't let that girl leave the Marines that easily. "I want a bounty poster made and make it at $1,000,000,000!" Sengoku ordered.
"Sir yes sir!" The cadet shouted loudly as he saluted before running off to do exactly what Sengoku ordered.
Sengoku dropped his head into his arms with a sigh. Out of all things why did it have to be this? What in the world was going through that girl's head at the time? Why did she leave? Sure they might have been a little harsh with the girl's training and punishments but that was all to turn her into a fine and strong Marine who would rid the world of pirates and criminals. Especially with her Devil Fruit. But it couldn't have been that bad could it? Now that he thinks about it, he has not once for the past seven years seen that girl smile or laugh, ever. All Sengoku could think about was what would come after this? How was he supposed to explain this to the World Government? He couldn't just say 'hey so one of our strongest Marines escaped and we don't know where she is or what she's planning to do?'.
The next day on every front page of every newspapers and on every island in the Grandline and New World were covered with a wanted poster of a teenage girl with lightly tanned skin, her long strawberry blonde hair was tied up in a high ponytail and was dressed in a Marine cadet uniform with a scowl across her face.
White Flame. Dead or Alive. Bounty: $1,000,000,000.
