Behind a certain town up in the mountains, there were said to be a group of bandits that had occupied an abandoned temple as a base for their use. If one were to make their way up the mountain and inside that temple though, the first sight they would be greeted with would not be the intimidating sight of hardened dangerous killers, but instead burnt corpses of bandits scattered everywhere as a result of a fight.
One of the last remaining bandits barely let out a scream before he fell to the ground after his face was severely scorched with purple flames. Witnessing his last underling die before him, the bandit leader shook in fear as he recognized those unique flames.
Bandit leader: Those purple flames!? Y-Your that infamous mercenary, N/N!! P-please!! Please don't kill me I'll...I'll give you money or anything you want so don't kill me!!
(Y/N): If you know who I am then you know what you're saying right now is pointless. It wouldn't be fair to kill the rest of your gang and leave you alive now would it? Plus, I've already been paid. You guys shouldn't have terrorized the town for so long and not expect to face some kind of consequences, but it doesn't really matter to me.
Y/N with his scarf covering half his face slowly walked towards the bandits leader who was desperately trying to crawl away after getting weak knees from watching his men get massacred. Out of a last ditch effort the leader earth bent one of the supporting pillars that was holding up the already decaying ceiling out of place and tossed it at his would be killer.
Y/N for his part simply dodges to the side avoiding the pillar then looks up at the rumbling ceiling.
Bandit leader: Hahaha!!! Now you're going to be buried alive and there's no escape.
Y/N ignored the laughing craze leader and turned his attention towards the exit. It was indeed too far to attempt an escape and the ceiling was already coming apart. To solve this situation he took an earth bending stance and made earth pillars to keep the ceiling stable for now. The bandit froze in shock.
Bandit leader: H-how is that possible? I thought you were a fire bender but...you just earth bend. Who are you!?
The bandit was shaking in terror at what he just saw. "Only the Avatar can bend more than one element and she's a woman" he thought as he watched Y/N come closer to him with a cold expression.
(Y/N): Well, now I definitely got to kill you.
Y/N made a purple flame in the palm of his hand and pointed it towards the bandit.
Bandit leader: Wait wait!! Please don't kill m-
Before he could finish his plea he screamed out in agony as he was engulfed in purple flames and was burnt to a crisp. With all the bandits' deaths confirmed, Y/N relaxes his body and lets out a breath of air.
(Y/N): Phew~ that was tiring. I should get out of here before this place comes crashing down on me.
He starts making his way out while avoiding the falling pieces of debris."A shame such a historic place is being destroyed but it's better than being another place used by bandits". He thought as he safely made it out of the temple and watched as it came crumbling down, burying the bandits corpses. Seeing as his contract was complete he starts making his way off the mountain to the town below.
He took his time since this job was his third one this week of having to hunt down someone going off only on the information the client had. It wasn't like it was too difficult to find the target but it was tiring nonetheless.
(Y/N): Maybe I'll take a break or something. Kick back on a nice bed, eat something good. That'll be great.
???: Why bother doing something so tedious.
A dark voice spoke from within him. Sounding annoyed at Y/N's plans.
(Y/N): Shut up. Taking a break isn't tedious. Spending my time in wars and massacring people, now that gets tedious. So now I deserve a break.
???: ...
"Quiet huh"
From time to time a dark voice would speak to Y/N, mostly to ridicule or talk down to him. The only thing Y/N knows about this voice is that it calls itself Vaatu and is the spirit of chaos and darkness, and as its host Y/N acquired the ability to bend the four elements and is the natural opposite of the Avatar.
(Y/N): I wonder where I should go? There's got to be a better place somewhere in this area...hm?
Finally nearing the town he saw that the townspeople had gathered and were waiting for him. When they saw him the mayor who was also the client was the first to step up to speak.
Mayor: We heard a loud crash up in the mountains. Did...did you get rid of the bandits?
The man had a hopeful expression waiting for Y/N answer. Y/N simply didn't pay the man any mind as he kept moving forward passing him and the rest of the townspeople. They all only look in confusion as they watch Y/N leaving the town without saying a word.
Town woman: W-Why didn't he say anything and suddenly leave?
The woman said with a shaken voice.
Mayor: I don't know. I'm sure he did his job. He was really expensive and known for finishing a job once he takes it. Why else would he suddenly leave?
The major said, trying to reassure his people. They all looked at one another, hoping that their town was really free from the terrorizing bandits. To confirm this and ease the people's minds, the mayor gathered some volunteers and they all traveled up the mountain. Meanwhile Y/N was leaving the area of the town but stopped to look back as he took his scarf off his face.
(Y/N): I wonder if they know that those bandits weren't the only ones eyeing that town. Hm, oh well.
He shrugs and resumes walking without a care in the world. He did his job in wiping out the bandits that would come and collect money, food and women from their town so now it wasn't his problem anymore. If they are in need of his service again they can just hire him. If they can afford it that is.
To decide on where to go next he reaches into his bag on his waist and pulls out a map. Pointing to his location he saw that there were mostly towns like the one he just left near him but he wasn't interested in staying in one of them.
He runs his finger through the map until he stops on a certain city that catches his attention. It wasn't too far and seemed perfect for him.
(Y/N): Republic city. Isn't that the place where people from different nations live as one? I heard that the place is buzzing with criminal and terrorist activity lately...it's perfect.
Sounding enthusiastic, Y/N folded and shoved the map back in his bag and happily went on his way.

Air temple island
Korra was in the middle of meditating for her air bending training with Tenzin. Tenzin was surprised to see how focused she was since she would usually give up right about now for not being able to sit still for too long. He was happy to see her finally grasping the exercise.
He continued to watch over her but grew worried when she suddenly started sweating and her face seemed to be straining in pain. Tenzin placed his hands on both her shoulders to snap her out of it.
Tenzin: Korra that's enough, you can stop now.
Her eyes shot open as she inhaled deeply.
Korra: (gasp!!!)...W-what happened?
Tenzin: You tell me. One second you were calmly meditating then the next you seemed to be in pain. Tell me did you possibly feel something?
Korra was still in a daze as she tried to recall what had happened during her meditation.
Korra: I...I don't know. Honestly I don't know what I was feeling but it felt... strange yet...familiar. Like something I haven't felt in a long time and for some reason I feel like I have to do something about it. Does that make sense?
Tenzin brushes his hand through his beard thinking of what it could all mean.
Tenzin: hmm...Maybe it has something to do with your past lives. A vision perhaps of one of the previous Avatars trying to tell you something.
Korra felt even more loss. "If only I could somehow connect to the Avatar state this wouldn't be so difficult to understand " she thought, getting frustrated at her inability to connect with her past lives.
Not wanting to feel down about it she stood up from her seated position and walked to where naga was.
Tenzin: Where are you going?
Korra: Practice. Finals are coming up and I can't be late...I also need the distraction.
She said with a frown. Tenzin only nods, thinking it would be for the best. He watches her leave until she was out of sight to sit and start his own meditation.
Tenzin: I hope whatever Korra's vision is trying to tell her isn't a bad omen to come.
Letting out a soft sigh, Tenzin slowly closes his eyes to begin his own meditation.

(Korra P.O.V)
Me, Mako, and Bolin practiced till the sun was about to set. Finals was tomorrow night and even though this is important to us I couldn't help but be distracted since we got started. Heh, and I meant to use practice as a distraction for my distraction. I don't know why but I can't stop thinking about that feeling I had earlier and it's been really bugging me.
When practice ended I reached for my water bottle to drink. As I was drinking Mako came up to me with a worried expression.
Mako: Hey are you ok? I notice you haven't been focused the whole time we've been practicing.
I drank the last of my water before putting it down.
Korra: I'm fine just...air bending training is all. So don't worry I'll get it together before the match tomorrow.
Mako's face softens. Relieved that it wasn't something serious.
Mako: I'm not worried about our match all too much since I'm confident we got this. Just let me know if there's something bothering you, I'm here to talk whenever.
Hearing him say that made me smile a bit and helped get my mind off my problems if only just a little.
Korra: Thanks Mako I really appreciate it.
Mako: No problem.
Bolin: Don't forget about me, yea I'm here if you need to talk too.
Feeling left out, Bolin appeared beside us with pabu on his shoulder.
Korra: Heheh, yea Bolin thanks.
We shared a group hug and laugh amongst each other. These guys really are the best.
Asami: It looks like practice went great.
Seeing Asami walking in, Mako quickly broke from the hug and went to kiss his girlfriend on the cheek. Seeing them like that always irritates me but I learned to hide it so no one can tell. Since practice is over I should get back to the air temple.
Korra: Hey guys, I'm going to get changed then head back. I kind of cut air bending training short earlier today so I should make up for it.
Asami: Really? And I was just about to ask if you guys wanted to get together tonight before your finals tomorrow. A pre party you could call it.
Bolin: That sounds like fun!! We should totally do that!!
Mako: Yea I say we do it. Korra you should come, it'd be more fun with all of us together.
They all eagerly look to me waiting for my answer. Should I go? It'd probably be fun but~. My eyes drifted towards Mako and Asami.
Korra: ...Ok fine, I'll come along.
Bolin cheered while Asami and Mako had big smiles on their faces. Maybe this won't be so bad.

(Nobody P.O.V)
Y/N arrives in Republic city and is roaming the streets looking for a place to stay. Although he was having trouble finding one despite having brought a map of the city and was given directions on nearby hotels. But even with a detailed map and directions he still manages to get lost in the big city.
(Y/N): Oh come on. I can find people using the very little information I've been given on jobs but I can't even find a simple hotel on a detailed map? Is something wrong with me?
Y/N scratch his head in frustration while staring intensely at the map. He took a left on a corner hoping that it would be the right way and just before he did, a car had drove pass him with four people in it. One in particular just barely noticed him.
Korra's eyes widen as she quickly turns to look behind her.
Korra: Stop the car!!!
She shouts at Asami who quickly hits the brakes. As the car came to a stop Korra jumps out and ran to where she got a glimpse of someone carrying a map. She doesn't know why but something had resonated within her once she saw that man. When she turned the corner the person she was looking for was nowhere to be seen.
"What? Where did he go?"
She thought as she eagerly tried to spot him out of the many people in front of her. When she couldn't find him she gave up, thinking to herself that it was probably her imagination. However when she placed her hand over her chest she felt her heart beating at a face pace.
"Was it really just my imagination?"
As she thought that Mako, Asami, and Bolin finally caught up to her.
Mako: Korra is everything alright!? You can't just take off running like that without any warning.
Asami: Was someone getting abducted by an equalist?
Korra: No... it wasn't anything like that.
She averted her eyes while speaking with uncertainty.
Bolin: Then what got you so tense?
Korra: Just...forget it, it doesn't matter anymore.
She said with frustration while walking pass her friends. They all watch with worried looks, wondering what could be wrong with their friend.
Asami: I'm worried. Something must be really bothering her.
Mako: I am too. That's why we should make sure she has a good time tonight so she won't be bothered by whatever it is.
Bolin: Alright, the goal of this party is to lift Korra's spirit up. Let's do it!!
They all quickly followed after Korra with a clear purpose in mind. Meanwhile After Y/N had turned the corner he had finally founded a hotel right next to him. After checking in and entering his room he immediately jumped into bed.
(Y/N): Ahh~ now this is one hell of a comfortable bed. I wonder though, what the heck was that feeling earlier? Hm, It doesn't matter, I'm too tired.
With that he slowly fell to sleep. Happy to begin his overdue break in a while. But little did he know that his break would be cut very short and the beginning of something he didn't expect.

This is the first of many chapters of my Dark Avatar story that I'm transferring over from my wattpad account. I did a little bit of editing compared to what it was at first but it's not too different from the original I have on wattpad. Only fixed spelling, added words and such, nothing too major.
Anyway I thought I would bring some of my stories over on here to spread the love and if you want you can go over to my wattpad account to catch up on the latest chapter or check out my other stories. I also just recently made a account so check that out too if you like to contribute to funding my writing at all.
