On a cold November night, two little blonde twins, Lucille 'Lucy' Quinn and Grace Marie Fabray were born in Fairbook, Ohio. The two girls grew up in an unincorporated part of Fairbrook Township attending schools in Bellville, rather than Fairbrook. Their father was a fairly successful business man who was actively trying to climb the ladder to get to the top of the business world. Their mother was a homemaker, mostly involved with the society of Fairbrook. The two girls were vastly different, Lucy being a daddy's girl, while Grace spent most of her time with her mother, learning to cook and take care of the house. Lucy also idolized their older sister, Frannie who was captain of the cheerleading squad at Clear Fork High School and had gone on to marry her high school sweetheart. Grace, however, wasn't as close to Frannie but longed for a close knit family, something neither girl had.

School was particularly hard on Lucy, who had gained a lot of weight through the years, something their mother wasn't too kind about, neither were the students at Bellville Middle School who had nicknamed her 'Lucy Caboosey'. Grace always stood by her sister, no matter how unpopular it made her. Grace had always felt most of the popular kids were cruel for no reason and vowed to never become them, while Lucy aspired to be the queen bee, much like her sister had been.

Before their first year of junior high, their father had gotten a promotion which entailed the family moving from Fairbrook Township to the town of Lima, something Lucy was incredibly grateful for. She had wanted to completely start over by first legally changing her name to Quinn Lucille Fabray, asking that her family call her by her middle name, Quinn. She also had started competitive cheerleading over the summer which had helped her lose the excess weight she had gained. Grace, however, wasn't as thrilled about moving. She was fairly shy and had a harder time making friends. Most of the friends she had in Fairbrook was because Quinn had boldly introduced them to each other but as the years had gone on, the twins had drifted apart leading Grace to have to make her own friends, something she hated doing.

As the twins moved to Lima, Quinn set herself up to be the new queen bee of North Junior High, while Grace became the target of the mean girls of the school for her love of books and how quiet she tended to be. Unlike what Grace had done for Quinn, Quinn found it to be embarrassing to be related to a loser and often ignored Grace. Grace tried not to let it get to her and decided to get more involved in the theater where she met Kurt Hummel who became one of her closest friends. Quinn quickly became friends with two of the other cheerleaders, Santana Lopez and Brittany S. Pierce and the 3 ran the school and were given the nickname 'The Unholy Trinity' much to the objections of Quinn, who was deeply religious.

High School was a whole different ball game for the twins, especially Quinn who snagged her first ever boyfriend, the quarterback, Finn Hudson and began her quest for power by winning homecoming queen. Grace, however, stuck to what she loved, writing and the arts. She was heavily involved in the theater at the school and had joined the Singsations, the High School's Glee Club which was lead by the fairly creepy teacher, Mr. Ryerson. Though the twins had started off life together, they had drifted quickly apart. They were about to embark on their sophomore year, which turned out to be the year everything changed, they just didn't know it, not at first.
