Hi, my name is Luna. It's a pleasure to meet you. I am a 17-year-old girl living in a small village called Orden. For a few weeks as of late, I have been having strange dreams of an eternal twilight realm of sorts. I don't understand why or how, but I have this nagging feeling that these dreams have something to do with either one of my parents or both of them.
I'm short for my age, standing at about 4'11" in hight with strange ruby red eyes and shoulder-length wine-red hair. My best friend, Ilia, would often tell me how she wished that her hair was as pretty and smooth as mine.
Ilia and I would often take my horse, Epona, to Orden Spring in the early hours of the morning so she's clean and ready for the day. A lot of people have offered to teach me swordplay, but I would always refuse. My response would always be the same "I'm really flattered that you want to teach me, but I don't think ladys play with swords."
My daily outfit consists of a black t-shirt with a black skirt that has dark blue markings stitched onto it. For shoes, I ware a pair of black boots with the same blue markings and my hair is down with two hair-clips holding my bangs in place. I have no idea why I love the design on my clothing, but for some strange reason that I can't explain, the collars and markings remind me of something or someone that I keep thinking I should know.
For as long as I can remember, for some reason that I could never really fully understand, the other kids in the village (aside from Ilia and Colin of course) would often keep there distance from me. When I was younger, I would often go to Ilia for comfort and her father would allow her to take the afternoon off in order to help me feel better.
Ilia's father, Mayor Bo, is like a second father to me. My adoptive parents: Rusl and Uli, took me in after finding me outside the forest as a baby with a much younger Epona not far away. I don't know much about my birthparents, but I have faith that they were kind and gentle people.
And yet they would still shout scathing remarks and shoot icy glares at me when the adults weren't around to see or hear them. And thus: they couldn't do anything about it. Ilia and Colin didn't bully me for obvious reasons. Ilia, because she's my best friend. And Colin, because he's my younger brother.
But on one of those days, something very strange happened that would make me question if I was even really a part of this world. I had just turned 10-years-old when I felt something strange beginning to grow inside of me, almost like a snake or some kind of magic ready to be released from its imprisonment.
It had started out like how most of my mornings go, me getting ready for the day and the kids shouting at me as I passed by. But then, that's when it happened. I raised my hands out in front of me in an attempt to protect myself, and with that one motion, I felt something release from out of my hands.
Faster than a bolt of lightning, a wave of shadows burst from my fingertips like a raging wave. The swarm of shadows sped toward the scared and wide-eyed kids at an unnatural speed. At the time, it had almost seemed like the shadows could sense my pain and anger.
Of course, on my command the shadows stopped abruptly, the kids still looked fearful of me while I stared down at my hands with a mix of terror, shok and disbelief crossing my face all at once. Oh my goddesses! I screamed in my mind. What in the world was that? Did those shadows really come from me? My head started to spin and my vision began to blur. What in Naru's name is happening to me? I started to panic and my breathing hitched in fear. Am I really a part of this world at all? Or am I from a different realm entirely?
*Many months later*
I groaned softly and slowly opened my eyes. However: my eyes popped wide open in shock at the sight that greeted me. I was in what looked to be a dungeon of some sort with huge metal bars and a strange clanking sound that would follow me everywhere I went.
I found myself waking up in a cell: Wait, a cell? Then it all came rushing back to me like a stricke of lightning. The children had been kidnapped and I ran after them. I stood slowly to my feet- now paws- and as I did so, I heard a rattling sound. I looked down to see a metal chain on my right paw, huh, how did that get there? I silently wondered to myself as I looked around the room I was trapped in. As I cautiously continued to gaze around my new surroundings, my ears perked up at the sound of a girlish giggle echoing throughout the entire room. I turned my head sharply to see a small imp-like creature grinning cheekily at me. It was black with blue markings and a strange helmet on her head, leaving only one of her red-orange eyes visible.
"I'm glad that I finally found you!" the little imp remarked with a long drawn-out sigh. I blinked and tilted my head to the side in confusion. "Ohh, aren't you scary! Are you sure you want to be doing that? Snarling and glaring at me?" the imp asked me with a tilt of her head and a raised eyebrow.
"Anyways, my name is Midna! I bet you want to know where we are, am I right?" at my confirming nod, Midna smiled cheekily at me before she continued speaking, a bit of snark and sass lacing her tone as she did so. "Well, I'll make you a deal. If you can get over here, maybe I'll tell you! Eee hee!" she paused for a moment and glanced down at the chain on my paw. "Oh, wait just a second," she closed her eyes in concentration and to my shock and amazement, a small black ball of magic formed in her small hands. And with a loud click part of the metal chain snapped and broke off from around paw.
"There you go!" she said cheerfully, "does that feel better?" at my slow nod, Midna continued speaking. "Ok then, now listen carefully. I like you a lot, so I think I'll help you get out of here! But there might be some guards around this place, so if we don't want to be caught, you must do exactly as I say!" I frowned and stared at her with a puzzled look on my face. "So, are we clear?" I nodded and Midna gave me a cheeky grin. "Good, now let's get moving!" she spoke up again with a wide grin plastered on her face. I sighed and rolled my eyes in exasperation. Even though I don't trust Midna, I didn't exactly have a choice. And besides: if I wanted to get out of here and save the children, I had no other choice but to obey Midna's Instructions.
It took a bit of time, but eventually we arrived to the top of the tower. Midna then directed me to a room where a cloaked figure stood, her back to us as she stared out of the dimly lit window. "Here we are princess!" Midna told me with a wave of her tiny arms.
At her voice, the figure turned around to face us. She pulled down the hood just enough for me to make out dark brown hair and jade green eyes. Just like Ilia. I quietly mused to myself as I carefully and calmly studied the girl's expression for any signs of mistrust or hatred. But all I could make out was exhaustion and sorrow shimmering in her eyes.
"Midna? What are you still doing here? If you stay here any longer you will surely be caught!" Midna sighed and rolled her eyes.
"I'm still here because I wanted you to meet someone!" the little imp retorted with a bit of snark in her tone. "Oh, and it might help if you explain what you've managed to do, wouldn't you agree? Twilight Princess!" I blinked again and the stranger looked me in the eyes before she once again began to speak.
"My name is Princess Zelda, and Midna is right, I should explain what's…" she trailed off when she got a better look at my eyes. "Wait just a minute," she paused again and looked directly into Midna's one visible eye. "Hey, Midna, why does he have the same eyes as you?" I huffed and twitched an ear. Did Zelda seriously just call me a boy? I sighed softly and shook my head. Luna you idiot! I scolded myself. How in Naru's name would she have known that you're a girl.
Midna blinked several times before quickly glancing at me. She stared at me for a few seconds before turning back to face Zelda. "Why are you asking me?" she deadpanned, "I have no idea why her eyes are like mine," I could understand her confusion though, because even I had no idea why I had ruby-red eyes. I was brought out of my musings when Midna began speaking again. "Tsk! Tsk! Tsk!" she waved her hand around and clicked her tongue in disappointment. "It's quite rude and not very polite to assume this wolf is a boy!" I nodded my head in agreement as best as I could mange and my ears flicking from left to right. "She's clearly a lady! Humph, I think you need to explain things now," she crossed her arms and stared at the brown-haired girl with a raised eyebrow.
Zelda's eyes widened in shock and she stared down at er feet. "I am truly sorry for my assumptions, please forgive me!" she bowed her head in shame and I flicked an ear as a sign of expectance that I forgave her for the simple misunderstanding. "Listen carefully… this was once the land where the power of the Gods was said to slumber. This was once the Kingdom of Hyrule. But that blessed land has been transformed by the King who rules the twilight… it has been turned into a world of shadows, ruled by creatures who shun the light." She paused to let the new information sink in, then she continued.
"Twilight covered Hyrule like a shroud, and without the light the people became spirits. Within the twilight, they live on, unaware that they have passed into spirit forms… all the people know now is fear… fear of a nameless evil… the Kingdom succumbed to twilight, but I remain its princess."
"You don't have to look so sad!" after a moment of silence, Midna continued, "we actually find it to be quite livable! I mean, is perpetual twilight really all that bad?" Midna asked with a raised eyebrow. I sighed and looked up at Zelda, who also looked a bit exasperated at Midna's sassy and snarky retorts.
"Midna… this is no time for levity, the shadow beasts have been searching far and wide for you, why is this?" Zelda asked, tilting her head and staring at Midna with a puzzled look on her face.
Midna turned away with a huff and replied with a bit of sass. "Why indeed? You tell me!" I rolled my eyes in exasperation while sighed softly and gave Midna a sideways glare.
"Time has grown short, the guard will soon make his rounds. You must leave here quickly!" and with those final words, I gave a quick bow to Zelda in thanks and without another word, we quickly exited the room. Halfway down the stairs, we met the guard. Midna and I quickly escaped via the way we came in, leaving the castle walls.
